Retired city workers file lawsuit
over shift to Obamacare

Fox Chicago, by Mike Flannery

Original Article

Posted By:AltaD, 7/24/2013 10:53:02 PM

Retired city workers are asking a judge to block Mayor Emanuel from making them rely on Obamacare for their health insurance. It could cost Chicago taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. This affects most city retirees and it underscores how, after decades of grotesque financial mismanagement, the only choices left are painful ones.(Snip) When Mayor Emanuel sent letters announcing the change last month to about 24,000 retired city workers, the watchdog Civic Federation praised the move, saying it could eventually save taxpayers $70 million or more each year.

Comments:
The unions helped elect Obama so why shouldn´t they be the obamacare guinea pigs?

A politician promised you something and you believed him?
he problem is that they promised those city workers something beyond the politician´s power to guarantee. Worse, the politicians promise was based solely on the city government´s belief that they could take whatever money from future taxpayer they wanted

Your union dues at work ?

Sorry, if it´s good for US, it´s good for everybody, including federal employees in Washington. One gets a waiver, we all get waivers.

When auto makers and other first subscribers of group health coverage were promised life time benefits, the cost might have been $50 a month. Today, it costs thousands of dollars a month to cover aging retirees, particularly if they have been married more than once and have children under 26. It´s all about the ´promise´

Yo..yo...Plenty of Gov. Workers don´t get Gov. Paid private insurance. They have to rely on Medicare and pay for the private supplemental insurance them selves. So ..who cares about the Chicago crooks! If Chicago citizens have to pay for what their politicians negotiated, too bad you elected them. If the retIrees have to pay, too bad. Just don´t think my Fed tax money should be paying for the bloated retirement benefits these pigs get. If nation politicians think they will use Fed tax money to pay these pigs, they will have serious trouble.

A federal jury awarded a man serving a life-sentence for the 1993 massacre of seven workers at a Brown’s Chicken restaurant in suburban Palatine nearly a half-million dollars in his civil rights lawsuit against a former Cook County Jail guard accused of beating him in 2002. When told by the Tribune Saturday of the jury´s decision in favor of James Degorski the day before, the families of the victims expressed outrage. “The first thought is, ´it kind of feels like a slap in the face,´“ said Dana Sampson, 42. “It’s just very disheartening.” Her parents Richard and Lynn Ehlenfeldt owned

Mayor Rahm Emanuel will move Wednesday to fill a “regulatory vacuum” that has given ride-sharing companies an unfair advantage over taxicabs, with no safeguards to protect consumers. The 20-page ordinance, expected to be introduced at a City Council meeting, would license ride-sharing companies as “transportation network providers” and require them to pay an annual, $25,000 fee, plus $25 per driver. UberX, Lyft, SideCar and other ride-sharing companies that allow drivers to offer rides in their personal vehicles to passengers who order them on their smartphones also would be required to pay the city’s $3.50 a day per vehicle ground transportation

Illinois rolled out its new, information-chocked school report card recently and provided an easy-to-understand figure of how many Illinois high school graduates are ready to go to college. Brace yourself: It´s only 46 percent. That, the state says, pegs how students have a reasonable chance at college success, based on their ACT scores. You don´t need to have nailed a perfect 36 on the ACT to know that means a little more than half of high school grads aren´t ready to do college-level work. Brace yourself again: Even that may be optimistic. By the ACT´s own calculations, only one-fourth of Illinois students are prepared

Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook. If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.
