Obama talks up economy, hits
Republicans on ´phony scandals´

The Hill, by Justin Sink

President Obama sought to take credit for the economic recovery on Wednesday with a speech that declared the country had “fought its way back” from a recession that threatened the American Dream. Facing falling poll numbers, Obama also looked to gain leverage over Republicans whom he accused of focusing on "phony scandals" instead of the country. “We’ve cleared away the rubble from the financial crisis and begun to lay a new foundation for stronger, more durable economic growth,” Obama said in a speech at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. “Add it all up, and over the past 40 months,

A scandal is a scandal, and the democrats would like us to believe they did nothing wrong. Hillary Clinton and 0bama did not act on the terrorist attack in Benghazi, four brave Americans were murdered. 0bama simply went to bed and got up the next morning and went to Las Vegas. Chris Stevens was sodomized and murdered in a horrid manner. 0bama and Hillary have refused to tell us what happened; which of them gave the order to stand down; was there another reason? Like was Chris over there doing dirty work for Hillary, and they just could not afford to intervene? And someone needs to go to prison over the IRS scandal; what Lois Lerner did was hideous, yet she is on leave collecting $200,000 in salary each year. These are both scandals, as is the illegal collection of phone conversations from law abiding American citizens. 0bama has done nothing to help the economy up to now; why would we believe he is serious, and not just creating a smoke screen to his illegal deeds?

The real scandal is Americans´ shrinking discretionary income because of Obama´s energy policies. Our very modest family´s discretionary income has decreased by over $2500/year because of higher gasoline and electricity costs alone. If you factored in higher food prices, it´d be much more. That´s over $2500 for travel, entertainment, etc.

And the RNC and Republicans do nothing to help us.

Yeah, yeah, the other scandals are real and bad but if the RNC and Republicans cannot walk and chew gum at the same time, maybe it´s time to primary them.

Phony scandals?

Benghazi? I guess he could handle that one oh so easily if Obama would just take the time...under oath.. to tell the nation where he was and what he was doing the night our guys were murdered by the Islamists in Libya.

He hides like a coward instead of telling the people why he let our brave men die.

Tell us Mr. President... it appears you are the phony one here.

NO ONE will believe this swill. he´s becoming a joke, a dangerous joke for sure, but a joke none the less with some of my more liberal friends. Memo to 0-bama supporters: Listen to this guy speak – he truly believes you are imbeciles.

He knows that you are not aware of the fact that his administration has never once met a budget deadline. His past budgets (when delivered at all) have gone to Congress well past the deadline and received -0- votes from EITHER PARTY. Senate Democrats have not passed one budget during either of 0-bama’s terms. The GOP House has passed numerous budgets, which the president’s party will not even bring to the floor.

Even 0-bama supporters ought to be able to tell that he is saying exactly the same thing in every one of these speeches, but has never even attempted to accomplish any of it. He doesn’t know how. All he knows is that his supporters don’t care.

a web of lies, a concoction of myths, a flimsy bernoose of babbling boob-bait for lo-fos

Economic experts state that this is the worst ever "recovery", and that we should be far ahead of where we´re at now.

BO has done nothing to help the Middle Class, in fact, he has shrunk and impoverished much of it and the rest have found their income withering away.

On the other hand, BO´s friends have been getting very wealthy indeed. That trillion dollars of "stimulus" had to end up in someone´s pockets, no?

His abominable healthcare legislation daily corrodes our health care system.

Energy costs are soaring, and have been astronomical ever since he ascended the throne... i mean, Presidency. How many lo-fos remember that January 2008 we saw average gasoline at $1.69?

But hundreds of billions have literally gone down the drain of "green technology" boondoggels while filling the coffers of cronies.

"Command-and-control" economies have NEVER worked, ever. Only control-freak utopians believe they have and will.

We know that the scandals are very real and very serious and very dangerous for a Constitutional Republic.

Now, Republicans ought to fight the mendacity of this homunculus with facts, including how the unctuous Harry Reid will not take up any of the bills passed in the House which could have had a salubrious effect on the economy.

Geez, Obama pontificating on how to fix the economy is like Marry Poppins giving a lecture on aerospace engineering. You´d think that after five years, with the economy growing at a rate of less than 1% and unemployment over 7.5%, he´d have figured out by now that it´s his own onerous programs and polices that are throttling U.S. economic growth. If he´d just shut up and concentrate on getting his bloated, micromanaging, nanny state government out of the way, economic growth would surge!

/this is the 19th time he´s "pivoted" to jobs and the economy, it´s WAY beyond pathetic now

Yes, let´s talk about the economy for the "19th" time? This time, this will be Obama´s "top priority".

Don´t even get me started on those other phony scandals like the IRS, NSA, Fast and Furious, New Black Panther Party voter intimidation, dismissal of state DOJ´s in middle of an investigation, and of course Benghazi.

Phoney scandals should mean that the smartest president ever shoud be able to explain why they are not scandals in a 90 minute press conference. Phoney scandals also mean that Obama would welcome the testimony of the 32 Benghazi survivors still hidden from Congress and that he would release the documents on who ordered Fast & Furious to Congress. Artificial scandals also mean that he would order the Chief Counsel for the IRS, the person he appointed, to testify on why the IRS obstructed the Tea Party applications.

Instead, the most corrupt president in our history stonewalls, lies and viciously attacks those seeking the truth.

I can understand how these might appear to some, to be "phoney scandals", when we obviously have some "phoney" republicans leading the charge. A Special Prosecutor needs to be appointed to get to the bottom of them. Only Boehner can do that. And for whatever reason,he flat refuses. Which means that all this will continue to go absolutely nowhere. We have the most spineless Repub "leadership" in history and it just couldnt come at a worse time.

Hemisphere: Venezuela´s price and currency controls have wrought what they always wreak: monster shortages. And it stinks, literally, with toilet paper, diapers, soap and deodorant joining drugs on the list. That shutoff from global standards is what prevents willing buyers from acquiring goods from abroad, the source of 80% of Venezuela´s consumer staples. No foreign currency, no purchases. Further down the line, price controls have driven more shortages as costs to produce in an economy with a 56% inflation rate have made it impossible to turn a profit.

Geopolitics: So are Vladimir Putin´s actions in Ukraine just self-defense, as he claims, or a sign of a new sort of war with the West? Conclusions of a 19th century contemporary of Alexis de Tocqueville suggest the latter. Back in 1839, around the time political thinker de Tocqueville made his long visit to the U.S. and found an exceptional nation, writing about it in his classic "Democracy in America," another curious Frenchman, the Marquis de Custine, made a similar pilgrimage to Russia. Fully prepared to fall in love with autocratic czarism, de Custine was instead repelled by a harsh tyranny combined with

Staple shortages in Venezuela are exacerbating, as mirrored by restricted sales in many stores across the country. The supply of personal care products fails to meet demand. Only one or two brands of a single item can be found on shelves. Similarly, drugs stocks are running low. In a bid to meet demand, pharmacies have also been limiting the sale of certain drugs to only two items per person. Since April 2012, the Central Bank of Venezuela has been reporting shortage of personal care and home cleaning products, which sales are restricted as well.
