President Obama joined the national conversation on race Friday, addressing the death of Trayvon Martin, the slain Florida teenager whose main offense seems to have been his skin color. After a week of protests in the wake of shooter George Zimmerman’s acquittal, some of which lamentably turned violent, Obama spoke of the pain felt in the African American community. “I think it’s important to recognize that the African American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that — that doesn’t go away,” the president said. He continued:
Comments: An today´s award, for the most insipid and misinformed opinion piece from a deluded 0bamaton goes to, Alexandra Le Tellier of the LA Times...
Alexandra´s capturing the zeitgeist or some such bilge. If Obama and pals hadn´t created the phony narrative no one would be upset. And if I owned a deli and Sean Penn walked in I´d frisk him then kick him out. Same for you Alexandra.
George Zimmerman was not on trial for racism. There is not the slightest evidence that racism was even involved. The case was about what happened in the confrontation between Zimmerman and Martin. The simple fact is that nobody really knows for sure. The state failed to prove its charges beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury that heard all the arguments, witnesses, evidence, legal instructions and which deliberated carefully before rendering a verdict.
Racists like Obama, Holder, Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the usual white liberal suspects and anti-American cranks and, of course, the national media are the ones trying to make the case about race. They are actually trying to rile up the masses, inspire and organize protests and, no matter what they may say to the contrary, incite violence.
There are plenty of racists in America. They are easy to identify: they are the people always talking about race, making it a big deal, dragging it into every issue, and who are constantly and without the slightest evidence accusing everybody else of being racists.
Obama is certainly a race baiter and a racist. He is a sorry excuse for an American president - and a sorry excuse for a man.
National Conversation on Race according to liberals: Black people commit crimes because of white racism. When white people protect themselves from black criminals, they are racist. Therefore, black criminals should be exempt from prosecution, and any white person who protects himself should be prosecuted. If you disagree, you´re racist. Conversation over.
Agree #9. And the Zimmerman defense was his RIGHT to self defense. The Jury spoke, and I respect the Rule of Law. Not Guilty. Unfortunately Obama and Holder do not, so they took the not guilty verdict and ran with it..bringing up Stand Your Ground Laws out of thin air and making an issue out of it because they see it as another sneak attack to take away the 2nd amendment.
If Holder ever got his way regarding the SYG laws, #15 would basically be correct. Holder is for thug protection even at the risk of throwing his fellow community under the bus.
Ms. LayTellyay, me thinks thou art protesting way too much. Evidently you did not hear his little ´pour the fuel for Saturday´s protests´ speech today. He has set racial tempers back to pre1960´s levels, and it was deliberately done.
He wants martial law in any way he can get it. 100 cities protesting would give him the perfect opportunity. For me, I plan to check in frequently with Breitbart who promises to keep up with all the action. Stay safe everybody.
When 0bama said, "blacks can hear car doors lock when they walk down the sidewalk; it happened to me (0bama)." Well, I have never been robbed by a white person but I have been robbed twice by black men, I was assaulted on the sidewalk by a black man, and I have seen others mugged by young black youths. Until the black leaders and community clean up the black culture and get the blacks to change their image and horrid behavior, there will always be fear of their image. The blacks complain about the higher percentage of black people in prison; well, for crying out loud, they do most of the crime, because it easier to drop out of school and join a gang and sell drugs. Why aren´t the black leaders encouraging black fathers to take responsibility instead of impregnating their women and then going on to the next woman? Why aren´t they encouraging them to stay in school and get good jobs and work instead of laying around collecting welfare?
The race hustlers are beating a dead horse as far as the Martin-Zimmerman incident is concerned. By Obama piling on, he hopes to give Sharpton´s demonstrations this weekend a boost. But what happens if things get out of hand, and a number of innocent people are killed or injured, then it will be very hard for Obama to vote present.
Obasma´s IQ is around 85, at best. He´s an racist and a fool. He´s easily the worst president in American history. It is an indictment, maybe an obituary, of American democracy that he was elected twice.
How does 0bam0 claim to speak for African-Americans when he isn´t one himself? (s/on) He sure must have had a rough time while attending that expensive private academy his wealthy white grandparents paid for.(s/off)
After considering the facts, the evidence and the verdict of the jury which represents the community, to make an out and out false and incendiary statement like "whose only offence was the color of his skin" is a brazen in your face affront to all non-negro citizens. Shame on the LA Times for sinking even lower than their usual depths.
#24, I thought about all the times I or a member of my family was mugged or robbed. The number of incidents is well over a dozen (including two men holding a gun to my father´s head in broad daylight), and only one of them was a white guy.
These people want a big national pay off and they´re using this as an excuse to pressure people into caving in so they´ll just go away. We´ve had national payoffs since the great society happened and now Detroit for one is bankrupt. The reason a city like Detroit goes bankrupt is because servicing the welfare industry requires tons of bureaucrats who get high wages and benefits.
There´s tons of guilty white people behind this modern day debacle, starting with LBJ and Ted Kennedy.
Despite being one of the bluest states in the country and one of the first to implement state based Obamacare exchanges, doctors in California are boycotting Obamacare...a whopping 70 percent of them. An estimated seven out of every 10 physicians in deep-blue California are rebelling against the state´s Obamacare health insurance exchange and won´t participate, the head of the state´s largest medical association said. “It doesn´t surprise me that there´s a high rate of nonparticipation,” said Dr. Richard Thorp, president of the California Medical Association. Thorp has been a primary care doctor for 38 years in a small town 90 miles north of
President Obama, former president George W. Bush and their wives departed Washington Monday morning on Air Force One on their way to a memorial service in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. The president and first lady Michelle Obama are being accompanied by Mr. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the flight to Johannesburg. A four-hour memorial service will be held on Tuesday for South Africa’s first black president. Mr. Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, died on Thursday at age 95. Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea are traveling separately to South Africa. Former President
“In 2003, Iran made an offer to the Bush administration that they would, in fact, do major things with respect to their [nuclear] program; they had 164 centrifuges. Nobody took that [deal] — nothing has happened.” – Secretary of State John F. Kerry, in an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Nov. 24, 2013 In making the case for the administration’s interim agreement with Iran on its nuclear program, Secretary Kerry has argued that it is important to make progress on rolling back Tehran’s nuclear program or else Iran will continue to stockpile nuclear material that may one day be used in a
The funeral service of Nelson Mandela could be a "trap" for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani because he could run into US President Barack Obama, a hardline Iranian daily warned Sunday.(snip)Hardline newspaper Kayhan warned in an editorial that if Rouhani attends it could bring him face to face with Obama, "head of the Great Satan government". "Some domestic and foreign media outlets are using the funeral ceremony as a pretext to push Rouhani towards a meeting with the head of the Great Satan government," Kayhan said. Rouhani, a moderate, defeated a pool of conservatives in a June presidential election after vowing to engage
North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un’s uncle — once considered the second-in-charge in the closed country and a key figure in his nephew’s rise to power — was dragged by police from a political meeting, the state-run media reported Monday. The state-run media outlet KCNA said the uncle, Jang Song Thaek, had “led a dissolute and depraved life” and had been dismissed from his political position because of corruption, womanizing and taking illegal drugs, NBC reported. “Jang and his followers committed criminal acts baffling imagination, and they did tremendous harm to our party and revolution,” KCNA reported, after the meeting of the Workers´
Elton John used his sold-out show in Moscow on Friday night as an opportunity to criticize Russia’s controversial laws banning the “propaganda of homosexuality” to minors. “You’ve always embraced me and you have never judged me,” he said in reference to a long line of visits to Moscow, Agence France-Presse reported. “I am deeply saddened and shocked over the current legislation that is now in place against the (homosexual) community here in Russia,” he said. “In my opinion, it is inhumane and it is isolating. Harmony is what makes a happy family and a strong society.” Mr. John refrained from criticizing Russian President
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a last minute decision not to participate in a memorial service for the late South African President Nelson Mandela, despite having notified the South African government that he would attend the event. The decision was made in light of the high transportation costs resulting from the short notice of the trip and the security required for the prime minister in Johannesburg. The Prime Minister’s Office found that the trip would have cost roughly 7 million shekels ($2.4 million) – 2.8 million shekels for chartering a private El Al plane and a further 3.2 million shekels for
A waitress, who last month said she was left an anti-gay note instead of a tip, will no longer have a job at the Bridgewater establishment where she served, the restaurant announced Saturday night. Gallop Asian Bistro, in Bridgewater, wrote on its Facebook page Saturday night that the results of its investigation into the allegations made by Dayna Morales — and those made against her — were inconclusive, and has come to an agreement with the waitress that she would no longer work at the restaurant. "The Gallop Asian Bistro has taken seriously the allegations made by Ms. Dayna Morales, and those
WASHINGTON -- The Affordable Care Act is a "war on women" that denies mothers the ability to make choices for their families, U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-N.C., said Saturday. The ACA, beginning Aug. 12, 2012, requires insurance plans to provide new preventive benefits including contraceptives, breastfeeding supplies and gestational diabetes screening for pregnant women, prenatal care, routine breast and pelvic exams and pap tests used to detect potentially precancerous and cancerous processes in the cervix. Delivering the GOP´s weekly address, Ellmers called on President Barack Obama to get rid of the law or at least delay its implementation. Ellmers, a nurse and mother
In South Carolina, the American flag that flies over the Pickens County Sheriff´s Office will be raised high over the weekend despite an order by President Obama that flags be lowered to half-staff to honor the death of iconic South African leader Nelson Mandela. Sheriff Rick Clark told GreenvilleOnline.com that he is ordering the flag be raised on Sunday because the honor of lowering flags to half-staff should be reserved for Americans. "The flag at half-staff is for Americans´ ultimate sacrifice for our country," Clark said. "We should never stray away from that." The flag is currently flying at half-staff in honor of
Mitsubishi is the latest in a long line of automakers to slash prices on an electric car, the unpronounceable, unfortunately named i-MiEV. The model is now the cheapest EV on the market, yet it’s still hard to imagine many drivers excitedly running out to buy one. Overall, American consumers are paying more for cars. The average price paid for a new light vehicle in November was $32,769, up 3% compared to October, and 1.1% year over year, according to Kelley Blue Book. Yet as average prices rise, one segment of the new car market has gotten markedly cheaper. “Electric vehicles had
Nelson Mandela is being remembered across the world (and political spectrum) for his heroic, life-long battle against apartheid and injustice in South Africa. But with all the accolades being thrown around, it’s easy to forget that the U.S., in particular, hasn’t always had such a friendly relationship with Mandela -- and that in fact, as late as 2008, the Nobel Prize winner and former president was still on the U.S. terrorism watch list.(snip)Eventually, of course, the U.S. did pass economic sanctions, which are widely credited for helping topple -- at least in part -- the apartheid regime. Mandela went on
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
Although the jobless rate in November fell to its lowest level since he took office, President Obama called on Republican lawmakers Saturday to spend tens of billions on unemployment benefits that are set to expire this month. “It shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address. But he said the “economic lifeline” is in jeopardy. “All because Republicans in this Congress — which is on track to be the most unproductive in history — have so far refused to extend it” Mr. Obama said. If Congress doesn’t act before lawmakers leave on their holiday break, about
Many people could die as extreme weather becomes common. There will be more freak winds like the October storm, which killed four people. Heatwaves will be lethal and the sea level will rise, leaving coastal towns at risk of being swamped by storm surges. Sir Brian Heap, president of the European Academies Science Advisory Council, said he felt “obliged” to issue the warning after a new study by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It comes on the back of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, which has killed more than 5,000 people. Sir Brian said: “Given the tragic events this
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
