Pentagon does about-face on key Benghazi
witness, makes Marine colonel available to
talk to Congress

Daily Mail (U.K.), by David Martosko

Original Article

The U.S. Department of Defense has agreed to make available to Congress a Marine Corps colonel who was in command of U.S. Special Forces in Northern Africa on the night armed terrorists staged a military-style assault on an American diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya. A series of requests for Marine Col. George Bristol´s testimony from Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, both Republicans, had fallen on deaf ears until Friday. The Pentagon had claimed that since Bristol had retired, it ´cannot compel´ him to tell congressional panels what he knows about the Benghazi attack

Now that Col. Bristol has been thoroughly brainwashed - - Manchurian Candidate-style - - he´s free to testify - - with Angela Lansbury in the gallery.

Any resemblance Col. Bristol bears to Jerry Mahoney or Charlie McCarthy will of course be strictly coincidental.

They wouldn´t send him out there otherwise.

Isn´t it terrible how cynical we have all become after the distortions and manipulations, and outright lying of this administration!

You all might find the Marine Times article below interesting. According to Lt. Col. Gibson, he wasn´t given a "stand down" order at all. Sounds like his view is that it was more of a judgment call on where his team would be deployed, and the order was to remain in Tripoli to protect personnel there rather than leave them defenseless.

I hope the Republicans don´t decide to take out their frustrations on Col. Bristol. Keeping faith with our military is a wise course, if the lessons of Egypt are to be heeded. We will need them when our democratically elected government turns on us, as our founders feared it might. The "father of our country" was a general.

My suspicion is that he has been Cajoled, Threatened with loss of any Retirement Benefit, and generally ´Brain Washed" so now he is ready to be hung out to Dry.

The expectations on behalf of Col. Bristol and his ability to shed any light on the Questions that will be asked of him about the Benghazi Debacle, should be at a low level. The Republicans will ask polite questions and the Democ´Rats will, as usual, obfuscate the situation. Another exercise in Congressional Futility. And the Colonel will go off to his Retirement Ceremonies and into Retirement. Having facilitated the Dems in a political, ´reach-around´. While the Media sleeps away. 16 ~ actually NO.

Congress´ power to subpoena federal government employees, and civilian retirees, is quite restricted, and that´s by their own internal rules as well as the Civil Service Acts they´ve passed over the years.

In general the only folks Congress is usually interested in are those in POLICY MAKING POSITIONS, or who are appointees, or who are also subject to seperate criminal charges ........ or baseball players ...... or celebrities.

Tell you what, if Congress subpoened me I´d varnish it, frame it, and hang it on the wall. Otherwise they have to pay me a million bucks in small bills to go up there.

There´s nothing they can do about it.

If the Executive branch calls, I have even less interest, but in a trial at law the accused has the right to compell witnesses, so maybe I´d show up, and maybe not. I spend a fair amount of time going through the illegal alien amnesty act finding special deals those guys are getting that citizens aren´t, and there´s nothing in there about any of them being subject to a Congressional subpoena.

Think I´ll write my Congresscritter this evening about that deal. I"d like that one.

President Obama released his 2015 budget proposal on Tuesday, and the best way to understand it is as a campaign-strategy memo to return Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. After the rude four-year interruption of a GOP House, Mr. Obama is revving up the tax and spend engines to turn out Democrats this fall and change the debate away from ObamaCare. One of the President´s more amusing fiscal sleights-of-hand is his claim that the federal government has been enduring "austerity." Taxpayers should be so lucky. The crisis in Ukraine has brought out a fresh round of critics of President Obama´s foreign policy who see a pattern emerging: the president tries to assert his authority and direct events on the world stage with empty threats, which inevitably have no follow through. With each instance, U.S. power grows weaker as foreign powers view Mr. Obama as the president who cried wolf. The latest case: Mr. Obama´s public warning to Russia to stay out of Ukraine was followed by an invasion just days later. It´s just the latest failure, say critics who point to Syria as an example.
