President Obama made a surprise visit to the White House press room on Friday to speak about the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin case and made some of the most open and bold remarks about race of his presidency. While the president began by commending the judge in the case as "professional" and the jurors as "properly instructed," he brought the case into the much broader context of race in America. When Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said this could´ve been my son. Another way of saying that is, a Trayvon Martin could´ve been me 35 years ago.
Comments: *With Brian Resnick, Matt Vasilogambros and Niraj Chokshi.
Yes he could be Trayvon Martin if he got into a drug induced stupor, took up "whoop ass´n" as a pastime, prided himself as a street fighter and walked up to someone with a concealed carry license, popped him in the nose and straddled him on the ground while beating his head against the concrete sidewalk.
Yes, he may have wound up dead from a gunshot just like Martin.
The new agenda moves forward....now it is the stand your ground laws. Meanwhile, the president, the Attorney General, other black leaders and the media move forward imbuing black youth with resentment against anyone with authority, especially white. They are making sure more black youth are filled with resentment and hate for the ´white´. Black boys are dying at the end of black men´s guns and now more black boys will die at the end of black mans words. I think of my ´Little´ boy that I mentored and pray he doesn´t fall into the trap; my sweet ´Little´ that is now about Trayvon´s age and also lives in Miami.
This is a sad, sad state of affairs for the American people black, white and otherwise. There is so much more to say, but the people that should be listening are not.
From the mouth of the president who is leader of a pack of racist. He´s not my president and what Obama said and did is un-presidential. This stupid jerkweed should shut up. If I had a gun it would look like the gun George Zimmerman had. In that case forty years ago I could have been George Zimmerman. This guy is disgusting.
Poppycock. Anyone who throws a baseball and hits a golf ball in Obama´s anemic schoolgirl fashion would know that fistfights can be injurious to the health of a weakling, particularly one with the classic alligator mouth and hummingbird ass. Trayvon figured himself to be a tough guy, impervious to an overweight Hispanic. He figured wrong. Obama keeps widening the fissure he created with his first irresponsible comment about the Zimmerman-Martin contretemps. By now it´s clear that he lacks the common sense and the self-control that ought to inhere in anyone who would govern others. When he finally falls, he´ll shatter when he lands. Broom, dustpan, trashcan.
Highly irresponsible for a president to suggest that Trayvon, had he possessed a gun, "might have been justified in shooting Mr. Zimmerman" for merely "following" him in his car!
Obama is alway touted as (a) an Ivy-league trained lawyer and (b) a former law "professor."
Even without those stellar credentials, even I understand that the self-defense law applies to situations where some kind of deadly force is reasonably anticipated -- and the law could not be used as a defense for shooting a stranger who appeared to be simply "following."
Only the blacks themselves can pull themselves out of poverty, crime, racism, etc. Until they get past their self loathing and belief that America owes them, will they prosper. They bring the racism on themselves, with so called leaders like Sharpton, Jackson, Rev. Wright, Holder and Obama. They are all the same, they all speak the same language, they do not motivate. Instead they denigrate and continue to enslave their own people. They are pathetic!
This administration has been most successful in its effort to revise the entire lexicon of American English. Terrorism, Marriage, American Values and Illegal Immigrant, come to mind. (Right, Wrong and Is were changed in previous eras.) Now they seem to have changed the function of President from Administrator of the Government to Enlightened Wise Man who only comes out to pronounce on great Platonic dilemmas.
(rant)What don´t these "African Americans" get about the term "African American"? They are BLACK. I am WHITE, I am not a "European American". That term is one of the most idiotic in use today. I love to say that my white friend from S. Africa is an "African American". That always and inevitably totally befuddles blacks and liberal whites.(/rant)
Barry doesn´t have much time to milk this issue. As soon as Duchess Kate has her first labor pain all things Obama will be off the lo-info radar screen for several days and by then the story will be old news.
FTA: ´ That history, Obama said, is especially salient to black men. "There are very few African-American men in this country who haven´t had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store—that includes me," he said. The same goes for African-American men who have heard "locks click on the doors of cars," or seen a woman in an elevator "clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off." ´
This is an incredible statement. The president assumes (most likely on purpose) that the white person in these examples is wrong to feel like they do. This is his attempt to make white people feel guilty about fearing that a black person might attack or rob them when statistically there is a good chance of that happening.
Let´s see, how can I keep Benghazi off the radar? How can I keep IRS off the radar. How can I keep the continued destruction of the American economy off the radar? How do I keep the lofo mob in an uproar? I know!
In order for our "white African" president to have be "shot just like Tryvon" he would have had to have done the same stupid things: skulk around a condo project that already had several robberies/break-ins, act suspiciously when aware of being followed, instead of running to safety stick around & hide while looking for more trouble, when calmly asked what you´re doing, sucker punch the inquisitor and break his nose, once on the ground, pummel same inquisitor to the level of bleeding and before all that tell your "girlfriend" you´re going to hand out an ass-whupping. Finally, forget to duck when the other proves to be armed. Yup --- same result.
Could this White Negro Alinsky Marxist Fundamental Transformer of our beloved nation be any more of a RACIST ASSHAT??
The punk riles me up so much, makes me want to spit or puke...how in Hades did we get so f***ed up as a culture? Rap, hip-hop,race-baiters, violence, murderous Chicago thugs, leftwing corrupt media liars, corrupt thug unions, talk show liars, advertising liars, Democrat liars, and this skinny phony fraudulent race-baiting punk and his ugly gorilla liar wife!!!
I have always been saying that I think Obama is mentally ill. This latest outrage seems to have been calculated to stir up trouble between the races. This whole Trayvon race issue was made up by the Progressive MSM out of thin air and I think Obama senses the rift it is creating in the country and he wants to take advantage of it. Read the book by David Horowitz, "Hating Whitey and Other Progressive Causes". This fits right into the Progressive Playbook. Notice Obama made sure to make this announcement on a Friday afternoon before a weekend. The people who voted for Obama should be ashamed of what they unleashed on this country.
He makes the presumption that this profiling is caused by race. He doesn´t understand - so many don´t understand - that similar profiling will happen it the young male is white, Hispanic, or polka-dotted.
Now, if he wanted to say he was profiled due to being male...that is true. Young males are statistically far, far more likely to be up to no good on the streets than young females. That has been the case for all of human history, so far as we know.
What the black community has failed to teach youth is how to respond to such profiling. Everyone was young once. A simple, "yes, sir" or "thank you" will work wonders. One rarely wins respect by beating a head into the concrete.
The peaceful resistance of MLK or Ghandi would make it okay to wear an American flag done in black and white. It could stand as a symbol to reject all racism but also highlight our divide. American in black and is as different as night and day.
a black and white ribbon would do as well if one has the courage. In the hornets nest being whipped up as if it was Idi Amin and some dancers around a campfire, who knows what tinder will do if sparks land on it?
Stanley Ann did a pretty wise thing sending her son to his real father so he could fulfill the dreams of his mother and her married lover, his real father, communist turned democrat community organizer, Frank Marshall Davis.
Pretty far fetched? Truth is stranger than fiction and in this case hard to bear.
We can never end affirmative action, the only reason brown and brownish people ally themselves with blacks but it can be chanage incrementally but first you have to get GOP elected in a majority and them not to do bloat aat the top as Reagan did.
The GOP so not often in power that when are they go all out to grab the brass ring and the next one may never come.
A new contract with the middle class is needed for the GOP. End affirmative action by shade of brown and make it need and merit oriented--tha benefits the country and not individuals pet races that then act like spoiled children when don´t get their way.
When I was 8 years old in 1968 I was sitting in the car with my 9 year old brother waiting for my parents to come out of my Grandmother´s house in Detroit. Two black male teens walked by and spit on the window at us. I was very confused because I couldn´t figure out why they would do that. Every month we would come and visit my Grandmother and my dad would have to fix another window that some black kid had thrown a brick through. She finally had to move because kids would get on her roof and "party" up there. But heaven forbid we stereotype! Some things (people) will never change.
This white black President and his attorney general are baiting white people. He wants nothing better than an excuse.... His comments today are disgusting, but then so is he disgusting. He could have done great good today with the right words, but he is the opposite of MLK,Jr...instead, he chose to incite and to build on the blacks´ hatred of whites. I hate him twice as much as he hates me. I am ashamed that this racist is President.
He was right about one thing. The youth are much less racist and homophobic than are older people. As a statistician, I believe this fact alone explains shifting attitudes in these domains. We call it a ´cohort effect´. Put simply, the racists and homophobes are dying off, but not fast enough in light of some of the comments from some of the people (a minority) on this site.
NEVER FORGET ! Obama´s Stock and trade is creating Chaos in the Community ( Nation, as well. That is what a Community Organizer Does.
He ALWAYS has an ulterior motive, and Goal, that he is ultimately working for. He is a Politically motivated prostitute, he works for the highest bidder; to achieve the goal his ´Handlers´ are paying him for.
When he said that if he had a son he would have looked a lot like Trayvon Martin, the real point was that his son would look nothing like Jorge Zimmerman. Now he doubles down and says that Zimmerman might as well have shot the President of the United States. He may as well have called for a death fatwa on Zimmerman as an act of patriotism. Our president, like our AG, does not identify as an American, but only as the leader of "my people," blacks, wherever they might be, but particularly in those conflicts which can be construed (by whatever tortured logic) in opposition to whites. Our president is an unapologetic racist.
You narcissistic pile. "´Crayvon Martin Could´ve Been Me 35 Years Ago´ . You have NO IDEA how we wish that were true. How we beg that were true. Look up L-Dots. Go read Noonan today. She has awakened. Go read NOONAN.
I did click the locks on my car doors while a huge black man stood glaring at me from the curb one evening. He heard the click and started yelling at me while approaching my car. "OH YOU GONNA LOCK YO DOORS ON ME?" he screamed. The light was still red but I gunned my car and roared through it anyway. Left him eating my dust.
Just when you thought all this bullcrap was winding down the Obamboozler lights another fire under it. We can ultimately see empirically that the true measure of this man is that he is at his fundamental core a community/communist organizer and that his only goal is to inflame, divide and incite unrest. There is no effort to unify or placate. There is no though, word or deed what so ever on his part to work as one nation under God for liberty and justice for all. That goes against everything he stands for!
You know, there is all this talk about racism, stand your ground and other such "stuff" but the real deal we need to talk about is what Martin L. King said many years ago. It has NOTHING to do with color; it has everything to do with character! When all these idiots start talking about that instead of black and racism, I´ll join the conversation. Until then they have no ground to stand on and aren´t worthy of a reply and that includes what passes for our president.
I heard a recording of his talk and thought it was very good. He said something that needed to be said. Of course he has detractors who will not listen. I do believe he was primarily addressing white people who are in the middle.
For violent crime by race in 2011, 59.4% of those arrested were white [caucasians constitute roughly 72% of US pop.], 38.3% were black [blacks constitute roughly 13% of US population], and 2.2% were of other races. For persons arrested for homicide in 2011, 49.7% were black, 48% were white, and 2.3% were of other races.
I gather that Hispanics are now classed as "white," thus statistics are slanted to show caucasian Americans commit a higher percentage of crimes than they actually do.
More from Wikipedia:
According to a 2009 report by the Pew Hispanic Center, in 2007 Latinos "accounted for 40% of all sentenced federal offenders-more than triple their share (13%) of the total U.S. adult population". This was an increase from 24% in 1991. 72% of the Latino offenders were not U.S. citizens. For Hispanic offenders sentenced in federal courts, 48% were immigration offenses and 37% drug offenses. One reason for the large increase in immigration offenses is that they exclusively fall under federal jurisdiction.
There is also a Sanford crime stats page. Seems that the median violent crime rate nationally is 3.9; in Sanford it´s 6.9.
I saw somewhere that caucasians have a 250% higher chance of being attacked by blacks than by whites. Couldn´t find a footnote so no link.
I do know from crime reporting days that very few police officers go looking for suspicious acts--they´re far too busy answering 911 calls. Generally speaking, they can only be reactive these days, not proactive.
Many of us are not happy with our looks and know that we are judged because of it. We are unattractive, maybe ugly. We are fat, have bad hair, are too skinny, have crossed eyes, we stutter, speak with a lisp...and on and on. Maybe we were born with great looks and blond hair and have difficulty being taken seriously. SUCK IT UP OBAMA. We all need to overcome something in life. It makes us stronger. STOP WHINING!!!
Yep, a nappey headed dope smoking good for nothing street gangsta. Nice. Still the same. Except now he is Generalissimo Obama, President For Life and Ruler of America and The World. Nothing but Air Force One whenever you want, golf vacations to Hawaii, surf n turf vacations to Marthas Vineyard and around the world excursions whenver the missus wants. Life is indeed good for the dope smokin beer drinking dog eatin muslim christian kid from Kenya and Hawaii.
Obama just gave the green light to black thugs to riot and rob . It is unconscionable for the POTUS ,elected by the majority of white people , to declare that all white people are racists . It gets worse. For Obama to declare that Trayvon would have been justified in shooting the white Hispanic George Zimmerman , the beaten underdog, is no different than inciting a riot. Obama just gave the all clear for blacks to prey upon and shoot whites. Because some white woman ( allegedly ) held her breath when Barry entered an elevator.
We´ve gone from a President and First Lady who possess class and decorum who truly love this nation and Her people, to a dope smoking ghetto thug and his Sasquatch wife, who are both more racist than Bull Connor, and both of them hate the nation and all She stands for.
I wish the Mulatto Marxist HAD been Trayvon 35 years ago. We wouldn´t be going through this nation nightmare now.
...but, but, but this man is the smartest man to ever be president. The smartest man in the room, so smart that he is soooooooooooooo bored with his current job. Surely someone that brilliant would never have gotten into this kind of trouble. Just not possible.
In fact, he is so smart that he attaches Marxism to everything he does, just to prove he knows more than we do.
Why, exactly, did Valerie tell the useless wad to make these remarks today? So that riots tomorrow will be guaranteed? And then we can see how well organized the Obama personal militia is, armed and at the ready?
As a concealed carry holder, I will fire my weapon at any thug who threatens death or bodily harm to anyone in my vicinity. The days of being victims to the criminals and their supporters in the judiciary are over. We are concealed carry, we don´t give a darn about your civil rights, and we don´t give a darn about reading your Miranda rights. We will empty our clips into those who cause evil.
#76, let´s poll your young people of today in a few more decades and see how they´re thinking then. Had you polled many of us here decades back, I´m guessing the curve would be about the same. Being mugged by reality changes more than a few. Living under a bridge is it´s own reward though, no?
President Obama has found someone to blame for the Affordable Care Act´s rolling failures besides Republicans. ObamaCare is the government´s fault, not his. On Thursday, Mr. Obama dropped by American University for a heart to heart with Chris Matthews, and the MSNBC host wondered who in the executive branch is responsible for the botched health-care rollout. Mr. Obama listed a few impersonal culprits including "cynicism," "Washington gridlock" and "the management of government," but he then drifted into another classic. "The challenge, I think, that we have going forward is not so much my personal management style or particular issues around White House
Jobs Report: November´s numbers were stronger than expected, a phrase rarely uttered since this president took the economic reins. But while a bigger number is always better, one good month now and then won´t cut it. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy created 203,000 jobs in November, 196,000 of which were in the private sector. Now at 7%, the unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest level in five years. What´s more, unlike in previous months, the rate´s drop came from gains in employment, not from people dropping out of the labor force. The labor force participation rate actually
Executive Orders: A liberal constitutional scholar warns of the concentration of power not only in the hands of one branch of government but in a single man who ignores the Constitution and acts of Congress on a whim. As the story goes, Benjamin Franklin emerged from Independence Hall at the close of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on Sept. 18, 1787, when a woman asked, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" Franklin is said to have replied, "A republic, madam — if you can keep it." The Founders designed a system of checks and balances among three
Most presidents have politically troublesome relatives: Jimmy Carter had colorful brother Billy, Bill Clinton had brother Roger, and the George Bushes had son/brother Neil, who was involved in both the savings-and-loan scandal of the 1980s and Asian "sex romps" that emerged in a messy 2003 divorce. Obama has a passel of half-siblings, but his requisite nettlesome relative may turn out to be an uncle, Onyango (Omar) Obama. In August 2011, Uncle Omar was pulled over in Framingham, Mass., for driving under the influence. His arrest revealed both several outstanding orders for his deportation and his relationship to the
RUSH: Here is Wolf Blitzer. Last night on The Situation Room, Wolf Blitzer had in Fareed Zakaria GPS. I guess Fareed had his location device with him. He calls himself "Fareed Zakaria GPS." When you´re with him, I guess, you always know where you are. And they´re talking about the impact of the passing of Nelson Mandela, and this is classic. Listen to Wolf here... BLITZER: Is it overly naive to hope and pray that maybe the death of Nelson Mandela will inspire some of those world leaders out there right now to do the right thing, to recognize that bloodshed and
WASHINGTON — Without Nelson Mandela, there might never have been a President Obama. That is the strong impression conveyed from Mr. Obama, whose political and personal bonds to Mr. Mandela, the former South African president, transcended their single face-to-face meeting, which took place at a hotel here in 2005. It was the fight for racial justice in South Africa by Mr. Mandela that first inspired a young Barack Obama to public service, the American president recalled on Thursday evening after hearing that Mr. Mandela, the 95-year-old world icon, had died. Mr. Obama delivered his first public speech, in 1979, at
RUSH: We mentioned earlier that Obama didn´t know that Obama was living with his uncle, who happened to be an illegal alien at the time. Here´s Jay Carney. This is yesterday afternoon in Washington the White House at the daily briefing. Ed Henry, the Fox News White House correspondent, said, "The White House said that in 2011, that there was no record of Obama and his uncle, Omar Obama, ever meeting. Now the Boston Globe is being told by the White House -- and I assume you can elaborate here, Jay -- that, in fact, they not only met, but
One consequence of the botched launch of Obamacare is that it has, judging from his plummeting numbers with “millennials,” diminished Barack Obama’s cool. It’s not merely that the website isn’t state-of-the-art, but that the art it’s flailing to be state of is that of the mid-20th century social program. The emperor has hipster garb, but underneath he’s just another Commissar Squaresville. So, health care being an irredeemable downer for the foreseeable future, this week the president pivoted (as they say) to “economic inequality,” which will be, he assures us, his principal focus for the rest of his term. And what’s
This column has made the point before that there are three phases of the ObamaCare catastrophe. Phase 1, the technical failure, might have been avoided had the administration had some basic standards of competence. But Phases 2 and 3 are inherent in the law. Phase 2 was the revelation that the ObamaCare enterprise is the most massive consumer fraud in American history--that the "if you like your plan, you can keep it" sales pitch was not only false but deliberately deceptive, and also that ObamaCare forces insurance companies to engage in dishonest practices such as selling maternity coverage to men and
RUSH: Now, ladies and gentlemen, you can´t escape the media and what´s going on here, and it´s all very predictable. If you just landed from Mars and turned on the TV, you may be confused over who was Barack Obama and who was Nelson Mandela, based on the way it´s being covered. Well, I´m just telling you. The Washington press corps and even the White House are moving here at full speed to associate Barack Obama with Nelson Mandela. Here, grab number three. This just gives you a taste of it here. This is Scott Pelley on the CBS Evening
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
Incompetence: Mr. President, you might not remember her, but Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is the one running the disastrous ObamaCare launch. You once met her. You two should get acquainted. Jimmy Carter was the most infamous micro-manager to be president, pestering commanders of the ill-fated 1980 Iran hostage rescue mission by two-way radio, and personally reviewing White House tennis court schedules. As to the opposite, Ronald Reagan was relentlessly accused of being out of touch. "Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don´t interfere as long as the policy you´ve decided upon is being carried
More young men in California rise in pitch at the end of their sentences when talking, new research shows. This process is known as "uptalk" or "valleygirl speak" and has in the past been associated with young females, typically from California or Australia. But now a team says that this way of speaking is becoming more frequent among men.The findings were presented at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in California. "We found use of uptalk in all of our speakers, despite their diverse backgrounds in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, bilingualism and gender," said Amanda Ritchart, a linguist at the University of
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the

FINEMAN: By the way, he did it the end here, today, Chris, not by defending specifics, but by explaining why he´s in the game to begin with. And I don´t know about you, he´s
The most curious thing of all about the November jobs report released on Friday was the huge drop in the unemployment rate — and the fact that the Labor Department chose not to disclose that the data going into that figure are under investigation for falsification. On Nov. 19, I broke the news in my column that the Census Bureau, which collects data that goes into the jobless rate on behalf of Labor, had caught one of its enumerators fabricating interviews in 2010. The culprit said back then (and to me during an interview) that he was told to do so by
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
Denver - A baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony must serve gay couples despite his religious beliefs or face fines, a judge said Friday. The order from administrative law judge Robert N. Spencer said Masterpiece Cakeshop in suburban Denver discriminated against a couple "because of their sexual orientation by refusing to sell them a wedding cake for their same-sex marriage." The order says the cake-maker must "cease and desist from discriminating" against gay couples. Although the judge did not impose fines in this case, the business will face penalties if it continues to turn away gay

Former President Bill Clinton shared an anecdote regarding Nelson Mandela and the aftermath of his impeachment Friday on CNN. Clinton revealed shortly after the “impeachment business” finished on Capitol Hill, Rep. Henry Hyde (R., Ill.) who managed the impeachment trial requested a meeting at the White House. The former president granted the meeting out of lessons of humility and forgiveness he learned from Mandela, he said: BILL CLINTON: I remember one day, oh, about a month after the whole impeachment business was over, Henry Hyde, who had run the whole show, unbelievably enough, maybe a few months after, it was
One definition of a pathological liar is someone who lies where the truth would serve just as well. When President Obama’s uncle, Onyango Obama, was arrested in 2011 for drunk driving, the truth — that Obama had stayed with his uncle years earlier for several weeks as a Harvard law student — would have served the president just fine. No potential Obama voter would have held it against him that an uncle he had stayed with two decades earlier was picked up for DUI. Yet the White House went with a lie, claiming that Obama had never met his uncle. Now that
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Although the jobless rate in November fell to its lowest level since he took office, President Obama called on Republican lawmakers Saturday to spend tens of billions on unemployment benefits that are set to expire this month. “It shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address. But he said the “economic lifeline” is in jeopardy. “All because Republicans in this Congress — which is on track to be the most unproductive in history — have so far refused to extend it” Mr. Obama said. If Congress doesn’t act before lawmakers leave on their holiday break, about
