Washington -The decision came after a day when civil rights leaders expressed fury that a jury of six women had found George Zimmerman, 29, not guilty both of second degree murder and the lesser charge of manslaughter after shooting dead Trayvon Martin in February 2012. As Barack Obama issued a statement from the White House calling for calm on all sides, the department of justice said federal prosecutors would now examine the case for a Federal prosecution under civil rights legislation. “Experienced federal prosecutors will determine … whether federal prosecution is appropriate in accordance with the department’s policy governing
#2, double jeopardy means you can´t be tried for the same crime in the same court. GZ was tried in a state court. Had he broken any federal laws, he could be tried separately in a federal court. Criminal exoneration does not always mean civil exoneration.
FBI has been all over this case for months and found NOTHING about civil rights violation. The DOJ will do some cursory work and say (as a way to save face) -- "Although there is the possibility, however slight, of a civil rights violation, it is the opinion of the DOJ that the nation would be better served by healing . . . " or some such rubbish.
This falls into the realm of prosecutors being able to indict a ham sandwich. They will find something, maybe the bogus child abuse charge that even Judge Nelson would not allow. It is a sad day for the Zimmerman family, but a sadder day for justice in America.
I hope O´Mara comes out and blasts this decision. I hope all Americans likewise react negatively to this outrage.
You won´t find one mention of the DOJ using taxpayer money to fund and promote the protests against Zimmerman coming from Holder, Obama or anyone else int the whitehouse mentioning it. The media either for that matter. Please God, send us some decent leadership.
The FBI already reviewed this case in the beginning. They determined there was no racial bias in the case and left it for Florida to handle (after making sure Zim got charged). Now that the evidence has cleared him, they want to take another shot at him. The only way they can stick some sort of racial bias in this case is to manufacture it.
Holder is evil, and not particularly bright. I hope they do not do this wrong thing, but the evil ones that shoveled guns to the Mexican drug cartels ON PURPOSE, are so out of control and stupid that it is difficult to predict what they will do.
The incompetence and corruption of this Regime knows no bounds. It will go down that way. History won´t be denied. As long as there are people with moral and rational judgement, the truth will be told.
Obama and Holder have no ability to do anything but divide people. What jokes. That is their training. They do not know the law, they lie, need a teleprompter and say idiot statements off the cuff. They are pathetic excuses for anything but being race baiters. All they know is entitlements and crying racism and are nothing more than the product of liberalism.
Wander over to The Conservative Treehouse blog and read the articles about the tangled web of relationships that make up the racial grievance industry. It´s the same group that wrangled the Pigford settlements and it goes all the way to the White House. All of the same players are involved in this case. They aren´t going to let it go.
I thought there was a thing called double jeopardy. If found not guilty that is the end of it. Silly me, laws of the United States are no longer in force. It is sort of like the Justice Department now makes up its own laws day by day according to its political agenda. The United States is now a third world country and we better get used to thinking that way because that is what we are under the Obama regime.
What the DOJ should be telling minority communities that have a stake in what happened, is that when a member of the community encounters someone on the street who has just as much right to be there, and the community member takes it upon himself to sucker punch that person in the face, breaking the person´s nose, and knocking him down, then jumps on top of that person and slams that person´s head into the concrete sidewalk; that these days, with the proliferation of State concealed carry laws along with the lawful right to self-defense, the community member could end up dead. That´s what this case was all about when you break it down to the nitty gritty.
So are they putting the jurors on the black power hit lists? Boys in the hood just being boys in the hood?
Kangaroo court, racialist justice.
The great OzBama has spoken but did he wink and nod to the would be rioters? How far back has this set race relations. I know I am done with it. Let those who sow the wind, reap the whirlwind of their own souls IMO.
How can Holder try Zimmerman as a white man? Now is the time to call for an end to the cancer of affirmative action. Human nature dictates that if one can get an advantage over others, they will take it and think it their due.
Those who live large on the guv dollar thinkk they deserve it just like Winnie the Pooh and his hand in the Honey Jar.
If you ever wondered what it is like to live in Zimbabwe with the corrupt dictator Mugabe, you have your answer in the Zimmerman case. Barack Mugabe has instructed his Minister of Justice, Egregious Holder, to file civil charges against GZ. Charges will be pursued until after the 2014 elections, when Brother Obama calls off his goon, Holder. But between now and 11/14, expect to see almost daily stories on MSNBC and CNN on how Holder is pursuing the white Hispanic racist who voted for our black racist president. It is going to be an ugly 15 months.
Classic Limbaugh Theorum. Barry comes out and says "A jury has spoken" (not THE), and not an hour later the DOJ says they´re looking in to federal charges. Barry´s got absolutely nothing to do with it!
How are we going to survive another 3.5 years of this?
The disconnect is total. There is zero possibility of bridging the gap between those who see Zimmerman´s verdict as just and those who see it as a Emmett Till all over again. Saint Trayvon, the unarmed teenager, even the child, forever the adorable boy in his photographs years before, bringing Skittles and tea to his baby brother, stalked by the White Hispanic, wannabe cop, the hater and racist who murdered the son our White African president never had. There is no communicating with those who have so much invested in that narrative. It´s depressing.
If the DOJ under the leadership of the criminal Holder dares to manufacture some kind of civil charges against GZ it will all blow up in their faces. There is enough evidence out there to convict Holder of misuse of taxpayer money and interfering with a lawful case down in Sanford, Florida by busing in demonstrators and anti-Zimmerman operatives. Who cares if some racist criminal "civil rights" leaders are furious, they can go pound sand and should be sued for racism.
As has so often been the case since Barack Obama took office in 2009, the editorialists at a major national business newspaper are reporting facts that the wire services and broadcast networks should have relayed to the American people weeks or months ago. In this case, it´s the Wall Street Journal. A Friday evening editorial published in Saturday´s print edition directly refutes the Obama administration´s key Obamacare memes involving affordability, choice, and the nature of the once-free health insurance market (bolds are mine): ObamaCare´s Plans Are Worse -How the Affordable Care Act raises prices and limits medical choices.... the public
An education official at a Texas high school is under fire after telling some female students they have been dressing like ‘hoes.’ According to KRIV Fox 26, School Support Officer Dr. Tameca Richardson made the remark to female students at Jack Yates High School in Houston during an assembly on campus. A spokesperson for the Houston Independent School District confirmed the language used by Richardson, the station reported. Some parents expressed anger over Richardson’s terminology, saying the Ph.D.-level educator should have used language that was less offensive. "That was out of line and she should be disciplined for that,"
Rush Limbaugh´s most recent book Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims is not political like his earlier endeavors. Rather, it is an attempt to shine a light on what at times appears to be the long lost history of America´s founding—including the roles God and private private property played in that founding. In Rush Revere, Limbaugh takes on the role of a history teacher who is able to travel through time to various events during the Pilgrims´ passage to the New World. To bring history to life for his students, he takes two of them—Tommy and a quiet but strong
Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace interrogated Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, on whether the Affordable Care Act constituted “income redistribution” by using higher premiums for younger people to underwrite subsidies for older customers, while with Ethics & Public Policy Center senior fellow James Capretta alleged that Obamacare raises taxes to fund Medicaid subsidies. “It sounds like what you’re saying is younger people are going to pay more to subsidize older, sicker people,” Wallace challenged. “It depends on their income, and a whole variety of issues,” Tanden said. “A lot of people are seeing a much better
Peter Doocy of Fox News reports that Healthcare.gov has not been working properly today: (Video) "Federal officials promised that healthcare.gov would work smoothly for a vast majority of users starting today. But that has not been the case so far because this morning the critical verification system is unavailable. That´s the system that confirms identities and makes sure people are receiving proper coverage information. "And applications cannot be submitted without this ant step. The site says this particular problem should be solved within 24 hours. And there is another error much earlier in the process as well.
Lifesitenews.com reports: Authorities say an abortionist with a history of tax evasion, botched abortions, and unusual disposal of aborted babies has died. Police found the body of Dr. Joseph Booker Jr., 69, at his home Thursday night after relatives complained they could not reach him. Investigators said Booker suffered a stroke and drowned in his shower in his Madison, Mississippi, home. Tanya Britten of Pro-Life Mississippi said, “From a Christian perspective, I pray that he repented on the lives that he has taken, and that God is merciful.” In 1999, Booker served time in prison for tax evasion. Later in the
The gig: Chelsea Shukov, 36, and Jamie Grobecker, 34, are the co-founders and creative directors behind Sugar Paper Los Angeles, a stationery company whose simple but elegantly designed cards, invitations, calendars and wrapping paper are carried in more than 800 stores in the United States and in countries such as Japan and Australia. (Snip) Sisters: They met in a sorority at UCLA. Shukov was a junior majoring in women´s studies; Grobecker was a freshman studying sociology. The two sorority sisters bonded over a shared love of art and growing up in families that drilled in good manners. "Our moms required
The post may not come open for a while, but the next generation of Republican leaders is waiting for the day that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) decides he’s had enough of a job he’s famously compared to “a hole in the head.” Boehner has said he intends to remain Speaker in 2015 if Republicans hold the House majority, but the political battering he has endured for nearly three years has many in Washington wondering whether he will retire when his term ends next year. Yet the Ohio Republican emerged from last month’s government shutdown with a stronger hand internally, defusing,
WASHINGTON- The errors are fewer, the pages load faster, and more people can log on at the same time to the government´s troubled health care website, according to Obama administration officials. Yet, like doctors overseeing a sick patient, they caution that more rehab lies ahead. Amid all the problems with HealthCare.gov, President Barack Obama set a deadline for Saturday for several significant problems to be resolved. The administration planned a conference call with reporters Sunday morning to give a status report. The White House is hoping for a fresh start once the website is operating more smoothly and can accommodate up
A Metro-North train derailed between Manhattan and the Bronx, spilling cars spilling into the water on Sunday morning, witnesses said. The accident happened at 7:20 a.m. about 100 feet north of the Spuyten Duyvil station, as five of seven cars derailed, according to the MTA. The cars were being pushed by a locomotive south, headed for Grand Central Terminal. Tracks involved serve Metro-North’s Hudson line, including station stops in bedroom communities like Poughkeepsie, Peekskill, Croton-Harmon, Ossining, Dobbs Ferry and Yonkers. All Metro-North service between Croton-Harmon and Grand Central Terminal has been suspended.
AUBURN, ALA.-In the eye of the hurricane, nothing makes sense. Not words, not sounds, not shapes, sizes, colors. So when Auburn´s Chris Davis ran back Alabama´s missed field goal, aka Nick Saban´s big mistake, from the back of the end zone more than 100 yards to beat Alabama and win the Iron Bowl on Saturday, I somehow got caught in the mess in the middle of the field. People. Screaming. Hugging. Players, fans. Crying. One guy was crying so hard it looked as if he were in pain. Dancing. Euphoria. It covered the whole field in the way Alabama’s defense
At first sight, the A-Z dictionary format of James Delingpole’s latest effort, The Little Green Book of Eco-Fascism, seems surprising. But there is a sound reason for its structure. In his prior book, Watermelons, Delingpole cited George Orwell: “Who controls the language controls the culture. Who controls the culture wins the political argument. … [Orwell] explained that one of the most effective ways of suppressing heretical thought was to eliminate undesirable words or strip them of their meaning.” Eco-fascists have a talent for that sort of thing. As Delingpole notes in his entry on “Language,” the “greenies” rely on “making
Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are starting to sour on the new pope. In response to Pope Francis’ first Apostolic Exhortation, in which the pontiff denounced “trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” these two paragons of the far right – both of whom regularly invoke the teachings of Jesus to bolster their own political views – have suddenly turned their backs on the man whose actual job description is to speak for Jesus. Sarah Palin complained that Pope Francis sounded “kind
The human species began as the hybrid offspring of a male pig and a female chimpanzee, a leading geneticist has suggested. The startling claim has been made by Eugene McCarthy, of the University of Georgia, who is also one of the worlds leading authorities on hybridisation in animals. He points out that while humans have many features in common with chimps, we also have a large number of distinguishing characteristics not found in any other primates. Dr McCarthy says these divergent characteristics are most likely the result of a hybrid origin at some point far back in human evolutionary history. What´s more, he suggests,
The hits to President Obama´s popularity, prompted by the botched HealthCare.gov rollout, are simply a natural fluctuation every commander-in-chief faces, Obama told interviewer Barbara Walters in an interview aired Friday. "If you remember, I´ve gone up and down pretty consistently throughout," Obama said in the ABC interview on Friday. "But the good thing about when you´re down is that usually you´ve got nowhere to go but up." "I got re-elected in part because people did think I was trustworthy and they knew I was working on their behalf," Obama said in the network´s exclusive. A CNN Poll of Polls complied
For Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, enough was enough. The Senate´s top Republican had watched a Tea Party-driven government shutdown sink the GOP´s already-weak brand and jeopardize McConnell´s own chances of ever becoming majority leader. The solution, he concluded, was that the party´s so-called Establishment had to start fighting back against its most conservative wing. McConnell, an ardent Obamacare opponent, and other Republican pragmatists in Congress, supported the conservatives´ mission to defund Obamacare during budget negotiations, which led to the 16-day shutdown. But the pragmatists also accepted that their odds of success were virtually nil. Democrats ruled the Senate and White House, those
The Washington Examiner recently reported on an academic study on the 2008 presidential election entitled "The Palin Effect" that examined the effect of then Gov. Palin on the John McCain campaign. Its conclusions run counter to conventional wisdom. The cliché, advanced by the media and the now infamous HBO TV show "Game Change," was that Palin helped to cost McCain the election because of her "controversial" personality. In fact, typical of most vice presidential running mates, Palin had a marginal but largely positive effect on McCain´s standing with the voters. She certainly did not drive away independents and moderates, who along
WASHINGTON — As a small coterie of grim-faced advisers shuffled into the Oval Office on the evening of Oct. 15, President Obama’s chief domestic accomplishment was falling apart 24 miles away, at a bustling high-tech data center in suburban Virginia. HealthCare.gov, the $630 million online insurance marketplace, was a disaster after it went live on Oct. 1, with a roster of engineering repairs that would eventually swell to more than 600 items. The private contractors who built it were pointing fingers at one another. And inside the White House, after initially saying too much traffic was to blame, Mr. Obama’s
Four more years. 10 trillion more dollars in debt. And by the end of it, we’ll have a nuclear war in the Middle East and mandates forcing you to buy everything from electric cars to Michelle Obama’s trademark Soy and Asphalt pie. The motives behind the Washington Post op-ed argument are… revealing. I watch President Obama, whose approval rating has dipped to 37?percent in CBS News polling — the lowest ever for him — during the troubled rollout of his health-care reform. Many of Obama’s fellow Democrats have distanced themselves from the reform and from the president. Even former president Bill Clinton
He´s a proud family man already, but President Barack Obama will turn to his children when it comes to life after the White House. Sasha Obama could be the deciding factor in whether the first family stay in Washington once he leaves office in three years. In a taped interview with ABC News, the President said his now 12-year-old daughter ´will have a big vote in where we are´ because she will be a sophomore in high school. When Obama leaves office in January 2017 after two terms, eldest daughter Malia could be off in college. Both girls attend the exclusive Sidwell Friends School
AUBURN, Ala. — In a season of miracles for Auburn, all it has taken is one mistake to give the Tigers life. No. 1 Alabama made just enough of them Saturday to change the course of history. With no time left on the clock, Auburn cornerback Chris Davis caught a 57-yard field goal attempt by Alabama in the back of the end zone, ran it out down the left sideline and went 109 yards untouched to beat the Crimson Tide, 34-28.
Progressive talk radio needs a savior. Just a few dozen stations now carry liberal talkers, as key affiliates in cities with active left-wing politics are falling like dominoes, going dark or switching formats. Detroit’s progressive outlet shut down in January, along with Seattle’s liberal talk station, which changed to sports. And after last year’s election, Portland’s progressive talk station ended its political programming. With the political battlegrounds of 2014 and 2016 on the horizon, reducing the whopping imbalance between conservative radio, with its huge fan base, and the left has become more important than ever, according to those in
Sen. John McCain is starting to sound like a Tea Party “wacko bird.” In a new fundraising letter for the Republican National Committee released Friday, McCain lashed out at “Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Washington liberals,” who he claimed are destroying the United States. Liberals, he warned, “have taken us down a dark and dangerous path defined by record levels of debt, ever-expanding government, and a lead-from-behind defense strategy. There´s not much time left to turn things around.” McCain’s name carries a lot of weight in fundraising because he was the 2008 GOP nominee and is a leading voice of
President Obama took part in Small Business Saturday by heading over to Politics and Prose, a locally-owned bookstore in Washington, D.C. Wearing a brown leather coat and tan sweater, the president mingled with customers and wished them happy holidays. He brought daughters Malia and Sasha, who occasionally left his side to shop as he chatted with others. At the register, when asked what books he purchased, Obama said, “it is a long list ... books for every age group, from 5 to 52.” In all, Obama purchased 21 titles, including, “All That Is” by James Salter; “Collision Low Crossers:
