Norman Rockwell’s iconic 1943 oil painting, “Freedom of Speech,” depicts a defining American scene: a seemingly average man mustering the courage to express publicly his opinion at what appears to be a New England town hall meeting. (Snip)In modern America, however, it appears the man in Rockwell’s painting might be advised to be very careful what he says, how he says it, and to whom he says it at the town hall. A few wrong moves and one of the townspeople wearing ties might report him to the local election commission. He might be required to register

In all my years I have never before experienced this feeling of unease..a feeling of always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don´t feel safe in my own country and feel like I am walking on egg shells.

FTA, The State of Ohio has a law which defines a “Political Action Committee” as follows: “A combination of two or more persons, the primary or major purpose of which is to support or oppose any candidate, political party, or issue, or to influence the result of any election through express advocacy…”

While I cannot dispute the most desirable outcome would be to overturn such stifling regulations, Conservatives always seem to miss the chance to apply Alinsky´s teachings. Where is the small group of Ohio Conservative lawyers taking delight in filing "failure to file" charges against every tiny liberal group with a sign, petition or booth?

Seems like the Ohio Elections Commission has proved his point:“that most elected officials ignore the constitution and, as a result, he is concerned that he will lose his freedoms in this country.”

Redistricting in Utah Makes

SALT LAKE CITY— Utah earned an additional congressional seat following the 2010 census, and Republican state lawmakers in charge of the redistricting process used that opportunity to slice up the district of seven-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson into four parts. Matheson ran in the 4th District in 2012 and won, but just barely. He held off Republican Mia Love by fewer than 800 votes in the most expensive congressional race in state history. Now Matheson isn´t seeking re-election and the odds are a Republican will win the seat. Matheson has dismissed speculation that his decision to retire was spurred by fear he

In more than a decade of campaigns for the California Legislature, San Francisco mayor and secretary of state, state Sen. Leland Yee raised in excess of $5 million. Yet it was a campaign debt only a fraction of that amount that federal officials allege pulled the veteran politician into a sprawling sting operation. The 137-page FBI affidavit against Yee and more than 20 other defendants says the San Francisco Democrat’s focus on retiring a $70,000 campaign debt from his unsuccessful 2011 mayor’s race and raising money for his 2014 candidacy for secretary of state led him to accept bribes in return

Last week, the FBI received a lot of attention and praise from conservative sources for finally eliminating the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) from its website’s list of “hate crimes” resources. However, while a headline at Breitbart says the FBI “dumps [SPLC] as hate crimes resource,” and an article at The Daily Caller said the FBI was “breaking ties” with the SPLC, a public statement from the FBI and the agency’s own website indicate the removal may mean just that — removal from the site, not a diminishing of the relationship between the two organizations. The New Fear of Flying After MH370

No accident in history of flying has ever spooked as many people. It’s a crisis for the airline industry that wants to make Asia a larger market than North America and Europe combined. Fear of flying is irrational but often incurable. Once the doors close on the cabin there is no escape. Your life is in the hands of the pilots together with the most complex machine ever devised for travel. You have no control. The requirement for you to submit to confinement is reinforced by accepting the first bag of peanuts. Irrational? Just look at the numbers. Last year 1.3 million

A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. The March 26 decision by the NLRB´s Chicago regional director, Peter Sung Ohr, held that scholarship football players are "employees" for purposes of federal labor law. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. While Ohr´s decision is hardly the final word on this issue, it does accelerate the legal and political battle against the NCAA and its century-old amateurism rules. Is Football Academic? Political hunt for sex abusers puts

The push from the commander in chief, generals and politicians to punish sexual offenders has become so relentless that it endangers the fairness of the military justice system, defense lawyers say. They worry that a cacophony of public statements vouching for accusers and demanding justice can sway military judges and jurors who are trained to take lawful orders. A military judge already has ruled that “unlawful command influence” infected the infamous case of an Army general charged with a string of sex offenses. “I think it’s troublesome when you have the president and the secretary of defense making certain pronouncements about what’s to

Liberals keep dismissing challenges to ObamaCare, political and legal, so it´s no surprise they mostly ignored last week´s oral argument at the D.C. Experts say a bigger earthquake along the lesser-known fault that gave Southern California a moderate shake could do more damage to the region than the long-dreaded “Big One” from the more famous San Andreas Fault. The Puente Hills thrust fault, which brought Friday night’s magnitude-5.1 quake centered in La Habra and well over 100 aftershocks by Sunday, stretches from northern Orange County under downtown Los Angeles into Hollywood — a heavily populated swath of the Los Angeles area. A magnitude-7.5 earthquake along that fault could prove more catastrophic than one along the San Andreas, which runs along the outskirts of

Former Arkansas Gov. Jeb Bush is second at 11 percent, with Chris Christie and Ted Cruz tied at nine percent, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio at six percent, Scott Walker at five percent, Bobby Jindal and Rick Santorum at three percent,

If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in
