A descendant of Col. Charles Beckwith, who in 1977 founded the Army´s Delta Force that today hunts and kills Islamic terrorists, passed the test in May to become a member of the elite special operations forces. The graduate is not a burly Beckwith man, but the late colonel’s 20-year-old granddaughter. Airman 1st Class Mary Howe is one of the few women qualified as an aerial gunner aboard Air Force special operations AC-130 gunships (snip) Airman Howe is the daughter of retired ArmyMaster Sgt. Qualifying to be an AF gunner is a giant step away from qualifying to be a Ranger, Special Forces or Delta Force. Hardly in the footsteps of her illustrious grandfather or father.

I knew Charlie Beckwith both as a second lieutenant and a colonel. I may be paraphrasing here but he once said that the Army messed up when they promoted him. Quite a character.

Bit of a stretch from gunner to special ops.
That said; I am here today because of the great gun work by "Puff the Magic Dragon" in 1967. Saved our four man LP from a Plt of VC. The VC never got close. Met Charging Charlie in the 80s in a chow line at a 3 gun match.
What a Character. In any case, that gal has some serious DNA.

MANAGUA - Nicaragua´s national assembly on Tuesday voted to scrap presidential term limits, which could allow socialist President Daniel Ortega to remain in power indefinitely and has stoked concerns about democracy in the Central American country. Lawmakers must still formally sign off on the details of the bill, likely in a vote on Wednesday, which will make the impoverished country the latest in a string of Latin American nations from Bolivia to Ecuador to give presidents power extending beyond their traditional limits.

Gen. Wesley Clark claimed he’s the victim of “general indignities” by his wife, in divorce papers that blame her for their marriage’s breakdown -- and not his alleged fling with a much-younger woman. The 68-year-old former NATO Supreme Commander is filing for divorce in Arkansas against Gertrude Kingston Clark, in hopes of ending their 46-year marriage. Clark cited “general indignities” for the reason behind the divorce, according to the Daily Mail.

A group of international scientists studying a deadly cholera epidemic in Haiti has concluded that peacekeepers from the United Nations were the most likely source of the disease. The epidemic, which began in late 2010, has so far claimed over 8,000 lives. The UN formally rejected compensation claims in February. This conclusion could have a major impact on a forthcoming multi-billion dollar compensation claim now being mounted by victims in a US court.

Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a behind-the-scenes campaign to draft former Florida governor Jeb Bush into the 2016 presidential race, courting him and his intimates and starting talks on fundraising strategy. Concerned that the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal has damaged New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s political standing and alarmed by the steady rise of Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), prominent donors, conservative leaders and longtime operatives say they consider Bush the GOP’s brightest hope to win back the White House.

If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

President Bill Clinton´s guilty conscience over his affair with Monica Lewinsky – and a desire to repair his shattered reputation by using the State of the Union address – set his speechwriters an unenviable task, newly released archive papers reveal.
