Conservatives and Snowden
American Thinker, by J. R. Dunn

Original Article

Posted By:ScarletPimpernel, 7/10/2013 6:36:17 AM

One of the axioms utilized by H.L. Mencken in analyzing politics in the United States stated that Americans were unable to grasp arguments on their face and instead needed them recast in pure Manichean terms, with the most repellent of devils on one side and the purest of angels on the other. Mencken was on to something there, something that still holds true today, as is shown by the debate concerning the NSA scandal. This scandal is being fought out -- particularly among conservatives -- on purely Manichean grounds.

Must read. If you don´t read anything else today, read this, regardless of how you view Edward Snowden.

The real problem here is ... systems being established, Doctrine crafted and personnel inculcated ...

.. that can (and will) be used by an actual Tyrant against us.

It´s the lesson of Guns.

A gun can be used for defense. It can be used to kill. The gun is inert until a human being uses it. The critical difference is, will the gun be used for good or ill?

Right now Washington has built a gun and has it pointed at our heads ... for our own good. But what happens the day that gun is actually turned on us?

They say dogs are a man´s best friend, but it seems they have a certain attachment to babies, too. In a compilation of YouTube videos posted by Funnyplox TV, family pets show off their inner guard dogs as they go to great lengths to protect the littlest members of the family. Whether they´re watching over the babies while they nap or making sure they don´t hurt themselves, these caring canines seem to possess an innate loyalty to their human friends.

A reader who requests anonymity sent in this account of her investigation into a curious asterisk on her health care insurance bill. I am one of the people who actually is able to "keep" my previous plan with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) after I was "cancelled" and then told I could actually keep it. That being said, here is another little gem that was buried in ObamaCare. When my most recent bill (premium due) arrived from BCBSIL, there was an asterisk and an "explanation":

Upon migrating to the United States many years ago, I embraced my new home and left the past behind. Never could I imagine that, at some point, that past would become relevant. But now, I am compelled to talk about it again. In the USSR, we had state-controlled media which shaped the narrative entirely. Our founder, Vladimir Lenin, was portrayed as a noble, charismatic, and smart man -- the champion of the underdog (the working class), the seeker of equality, defeater of the rich.

It has been my contention that President Obama’s deal with Iran on nuclear weapons had little to do with stopping Iran from obtaining them, and much to do with his desire to achieve detente with the mullah-run Islamist regime. As I put it here: Obama isn’t motivated, as Israel and Saudi Arabia are, by a strong desire to keep Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. That’s not the purpose of this deal. If it were, Obama would have held out for far more than what the mullahs gave him.

Gonorrhea and syphilis are on the rise in the U.S., mostly in men who have sex with men, a trend the government said is linked to inadequate testing among people stymied by homophobia and limited access to health care. The rate of new gonorrhea cases rose 4 percent in 2012 from the year before, while syphilis jumped 11 percent, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said today in a report. Rates for chlamydia, the most common of the bacterial sexually transmitted diseases, gained less than 1 percent.

Virginia is the worst state in the U.S. for burglars, according to a new nationwide study by a security systems company. According to statistics compiled by SimpliSafe Home Security Systems, Virginia homeowners are 46 percent less likely to be burgled than the national average. The study compares the legislative codes of all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia, and contrasts maximum and minimum burglary sentences, as well as maximum fines, as well as other factors. According to the study, Virginia has both the highest maximum fine for burglary--$100,000--as well as the toughest maximum prison sentence--life in prison.

ObamaCare and Dentistry

ObamaCare will change the American healthcare marketplace in unintended ways. It will have notable impact on the dental field, through mandated pedodontic coverage. Few people enjoy visiting the dentist; however, dental care may become more problematic. Within a few years, private dental care with a trusted and known practitioner may be limited. In the practice of medicine, a notable trend has been the movement of doctors toward employee status rather than owner/partner business practices. This relationship lessens the working hours that burden younger practitioner´s families and provides economic stability at a lower salary.

The huge milestone is likely to involve a second ´wedding´ to renew their vows. ´We’ve talked about that — we might do it all over again!´ the 67-year-old told Closer Weekly. ´Another big wedding.´ The country and western singing legend tied the knot with Carl, now 71, on May 30, 1966, at Ringgold, Ga., partly because he lived nearby in his youth and knew the town.

One week after a Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report created a media firestorm by revealing that the official White House calendar and Politico presidential calendar recorded only a single one-on-one meeting between President Barack Obama and Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, HHS announced it is looking to hire a media firm to help the embattled agency not appear "ignorant and unaware." The HHS hiring notice states that it needs assistance in tracking and monitoring media stories so that HHS staff remain abreast of "how the department and its agencies are being cast in the public eye."

A nuclear arms race is now arising in the Middle East, starting with an Iranian nuke, then a Saudi and Egyptian one. Nobody knows the end game. Obama´s biggest legacy may be worldwide instability for years to come. This administration is coming to an end. If you take away its corruption and thuggery, its constant scapegoating, its weird cast of characters, its astronomical spending, its drone killings of terrorists who were supposed to be dead last year, and its healthcare debacle -- everything comes down to imperial overreach.

ObamaCare was sold to the nation as a compassionate response to the approximately 47 million uninsured Americans. Yet, 30 million Americans will still not be insured even after the frenetic misrepresentation and bribery required to pass the bill and the botched rollout. Plus, the policies of millions of insured Americans are being cancelled and replaced with HHS "approved" policies that have higher premiums. Then, following the wipeout in the individual market, millions of Americans currently covered by employer-provided plans will have their policies cancelled because they are deemed inadequate and unacceptable under the ObamaCare regulations issued by HHS.

In November, the U.S. Postal Service reported it had a $5 billion loss for Fiscal Year 2013, its seventh consecutive year with loss. At the time, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe blamed Congress for the loss, citing an “inflexible business model.” “We’ve achieved some excellent results for the year in terms of innovations, revenue gains, and cost reductions, but without major legislative changes we cannot overcome the limitations of our inflexible business model,” Donahoe said. “Congress is moving forward with legislation that has the potential to give us greater flexibility and put us back on a firm financial footing

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is getting some time in front of the cameras before sitting down to watch the Super Bowl. He´s doing a live interview from the White House with Bill O´Reilly about two hours before kickoff, during the Fox pregame show. The interview comes less than a week after Obama´s State of the Union address, in which he pledged to act to help the middle class if Congress won´t. Obama declined during a recent CNN interview to choose between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks in the title game, saying he didn´t want to offend either city. The White House

If rumours are to be believed, the 21-year marriage of Barack and Michelle Obama has been racked by screaming rows, allegations of infidelity and a string of jealous fights. While the White House has refused to comment on the reports there has been a distinct frostiness in the air between the couple in recent months. Immediately, speculation began that I am leaving because I am frustrated with a broken institution. But the exact opposite is true: I am leaving Congress with my conviction intact that the legislative branch can be a powerful force for good. Of course there are aspects of the current Congress that I abhor. World peace? No problem for Tim Tebow. Turns out the Patriots did themselves and Tebow a huge favor by releasing him from his contract before the season. Tebow has cashed in on his #NoContract status with a pair of 30-second commercials for T-Mobile set to air during the Super Bowl. If this one is any indication, the rest of the field will be fighting for second place in the "Best in Show" category. The ad is both creative, funny and incredibly well-produced.
