Awkward: President Obama
Stumbles Through Scripted
´Patriotic´ Speech

Independent Journal Review, by Kyle Becker

Original Article

Posted By:mitzi, 7/5/2013 6:29:08 PM

President Obama stumbled through a “patriotic” speech on the Fourth of July, reading verbatim a text on America’s improbable experiment in “democracy” in a staccato and droll tone. Surrounding him was a dour cast of stoic figures — save for First Lady Michelle Obama, who broke into “slow applause” mode when her husband called America “the greatest nation on earth” while a smattering of hand-clapping accompanied her. The president should be given credit for going through the motions and for shoring up his patriotic bonafides.

Comments:
To quote Joe Biden, circa 2007: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate ..."

You can tell he is seeing the speech someone else wrote for him for the first time. Even without his teleprompter he should have been able to make it look like he was only glancing at the script, not outright reading it. I use a manuscript when I preach, but I have rehearsed it several times so when I stand there I can look right at the congregation, with merely sidelong glances at the typescript and they think I am looking at them all the time.

I think the word is "droning" not "droll".

Of course the words are wrong too, England had been run primarily by parliament for 90 years, and the lack of parliamentary participation by the colonies was the major reason for revolution. England still had a king and aristocracy, but was at least 51% "democratic" by most measures. And there were many other historical examples in almost every age. And it wasn´t perfect at first, it´s not perfect now, and it may never be perfect.

Someone tell Obama, or his speechwriters, or his teleprompter, some of this, please.

His legacy will not be good. There are so many mistakes to follow him the rest of his life. We were fooled into thinking he was a man of integrity that really wanted to change America and now his form of Hope and Change are not what we ever wanted or needed.

Obama is just more concerned about holding those golf clubs than being on duty as President of US!

Obama´s children will have to live with the stories of his dereliction of duty while serving as Commander-in-Chief.

Pray for America! We really do deserve better!

Obama only knows how to read speeches on the teleprompter. He has not been able to think on his feet what is right and true, maybe because he just doesn´t have the first idea of what is right or wrong!

Prominent Washington correspondents are accusing President Obama and his aides of knowingly stretching the truth on issues like the so-called women´s pay gap just to create controversy and keep issues -- and the president -- relevant. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus kicked off the attack last week when she blasted as “demagoguery” the administration´s tactics during the pay gap debate. “The level of hyperbole -- actually, of demagoguery -- that Democrats have engaged in here is revolting,” she wrote.
