I.R.S. Scrutiny Went Beyond the Political
New York Times, by Jonathan Weisman

Original Article

Posted By:Flyright, 7/5/2013 6:43:16 AM

WASHINGTON — In 2010, a tiny Palestinian-rights group called Minnesota Break the Bonds applied to the Internal Revenue Service for tax-exempt status. Two years and a lot of prodding later, the I.R.S. sent the group’s leaders a series of questions and requests almost identical to the ones it was sending to Tea Party groups at the time. Sylvia Schwarz, a leader of a small Palestinian-rights group, said she was used to scrutiny like that meted out by the I.R.S.

IRS isn´t the only federal agency that reviews applications where the applicant needs to show that it´s a group, that it is nonprofit, that it operates in America, etc.

Must be several dozen basic questions that need to be answered ~ THERE ARE LAWYERS WHO DO THIS AS A SPECIALTY.

One sign that your organization got the wrong lawyer is all of your chapters or affiliates get turned down!

That does not rule out Democrat apparatchiks buried in the depths of the federal agency targeting you for abuse, but many times it´s just the letterhead on the introductory letter sent along by your lawyer.

Sad but true.

The agencies should be more customer friendly ~ which isn´t likely to ever happen.

Unanswered in the article: Were any of the lefty orgs raided? Were any of them subjected to harsh visits by any other federal agencies?

This article is purposely misleading. The examples used here are of groups that applied for 501c3 status. [That requires ZERO political activity]
Groups that applied for 501c4 status [some political activity is allowed] are a completely different kettle of fish as these groups are inherently political and therefore of interest to the Administration.

501c4 is different from 501c3. Both are ´nonprofit´ BUT the ´donor´s" donations under 501c4 are not tax exempt to the donor.

There are some other differences.

Clever propagandists like to tell horror stories about 501c3 in the context of 501c4 stories, and sometimes they tell you about all the good times folks in 501c3 have just to lull your suspicions about what happened to your very own 501c4 application.

There are a surplus of lawyers expert in these matters ~ hire them ~ keep them out of trouble. THEY KNOW the correct answers to give.

Of note, having detailed knowledge of these processes might well get you inappropriately libeled as a BIG GOVERNMENT RINO. So watch out seeming to be well educated in the nonprofit business ~ we have some Conservatives who just don´t want to know.

BTW, whenever you see Gerry Connolly cited in any of these articles, he´s acting as a mouthpiece for the nonprofit industry, much of which is situated in his district, and if not, their employees live there. He´s just recently awakened to the fact that the IRS disaster may result in closer Congressional scrutiny of nonprofit status ~ and that almost always results in a narrowing of the qualifying categories. He´s scared.

Fears that high-speed traders have been rigging the U.S. stock market went mainstream last week thanks to allegations in a book by financial author Michael Lewis, but there may be a more serious threat to investors: the increasing amount of trading that happens outside of exchanges. Some former regulators and academics say so much trading is now happening away from exchanges that publicly quoted prices for stocks on exchanges may no longer properly reflect where the market is. And this problem could cost investors far more money than any shenanigans related to high frequency trading. When the average investor, or even

After his health-care law surpassed the low-ball enrollment target of 7 million, President Obama staged a Rose Garden rally and zinged doubters: “Armageddon has not arrived.” At least he did not declare: “Mission Accomplished.”The country is years from knowing whether Obama’s overhaul of the health-care system fulfills the promise of delivering universal coverage. While large numbers of Americans have found the program very advantageous, including people who were formerly uninsured, many others have been forced to change plans or change doctors — contrary to Obama’s repeated promises.Obama tacitly admits the unintended consequences every time he waives a deadline or mandate in

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared Tuesday his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better´ in a Rose Garden press conference. But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night.
