The Mindset of the Left
Townhall, by Thomas Sowell

Original Article

Posted By:Calvinesq, 7/2/2013 10:46:18 AM

When teenage thugs are called "troubled youth" by people on the political left, that tells us more about the mindset of the left than about these young hoodlums. Seldom is there a speck of evidence that the thugs are troubled, and often there is ample evidence that they are in fact enjoying themselves, as they create trouble and dangers for others. Why then the built-in excuse, when juvenile hoodlums are called "troubled youth" and mass murderers are just assumed to be "insane"? At least as far back as the 18th century, the left has struggled to avoid

Dr. Sowell should know. He was an avowed Communist, until he had several courses in economics. His eyes opened, he became an advocate of Dr. Milton Friedman.

Incarcerate the "Trouble" Youth and the trouble goes away. Juvenile crime is shoplifting, petty theft, maybe an automobile "Joy Ride". Organized drug dealing, armed assaults and robberies are Grown up crimes and should be treated as uch. I suggest...Immediate cessation of all public benefit to any address of an arrested individual regardless of age(it can be re-instated upon acquittal) If the arrested is a juvenile and the benefits are for siblings/Parents the Family can file emancipation papers and declare said Juvenile an Adult and then he/she can be charged as an Adult. When the family of a "Trouble" Youth is adversely affected by the trouble they cause...perhaps THEY will then apply the pressure that can affect a change. If wrongdoing creates an immediate demand for responsibility to be placed on the wrongdoer...rather than "Human Nature/Socioeconomic factors" Individuals WILL alter their behavior faster than society will.

Liberals believe everyone is basically good and if someone is bad there must be some external environmental reason. All they have to do is make the environment better and the bad people will disappear. Further all bad people can be reformed they just need to be taught the error of their ways. The cure is simple, redistribution of wealth so everyone will have a nice environment and government schools in which to teach the bad out of kids (e.g. selfishness). The only problem is it doesn´t work, and never has. One would think that after a few millennia of it not working people would catch on but no, the theory is so nice it must be right even if there is no evidence for it. The solution is obvious, spend more money on it and force people to behave in the proper altruistic, we´re all in this together, my neighbor´s child is my child, it takes a village manner. By God you´ll see that collectivism works this time or else we´ll have to spend even more money and pass more regulations.

Playing classical music such as Beethoven and Mozart to young children boosts their concentration and self-discipline, a new study suggests. Youngsters also improve their general listening and social skills by being exposed to repertoires from composers including Ravel, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn. In addition, they are likely to appreciate a wider range of music in later years, according to a study from the Institute of Education, (IoE), University of London.

ANTIOCH, CA. - Police say a man with every intention of robbing a Wells Fargo Bank, entered that establishment on Monday morning and approached a bank teller. Without saying a word, the man took out a note and handed it to the teller. The only problem was...the teller couldn´t read the note. According to police, the teller was unable to decipher the handwriting and then contacted her manager for assistance. As the teller consulted with her manager, police say the suspect made a break for it, exiting the bank through the back door.

LOS ANGELES – Two-time Oscar-winning actress, political activist and philanthropist Jane Fonda came under fire Thursday after it was revealed that her Jane Fonda Foundation hasn’t made a single charitable donation in the past five years, even though it’s worth almost $800,000. According to federal tax filings obtained by FOX411 and first published on The Smoking Gun, the Atlanta-based organization – of which Fonda is listed as president and chairman of the board, but receives no monetary compensation – was founded in 2004 and spent its first two years giving away large sums of money. Three years ago, New Jersey regulators suspended abortion provider Steven Brigham´s medical license for endangering and deceiving patients. During the suspension hearing, he testified that he was covered by medical malpractice insurance. Now, as Brigham, 57, tries to regain his license, New Jersey prosecutors have submitted evidence that his sworn statement was yet another lie. They allege that not only did he stop carrying required liability insurance around 2006, but last month produced a phony insurance policy when forced to back up the statement.

Yesterday, in an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, President Obama addressed the problems caused by his incessantly-repeated pledge to the American public that “if you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.” As millions of Americans receive cancellation letters in the mail, however, that pledge looked increasingly strained. “I am sorry that they, you know, are finding themselves in this situation, based on assurances they got from me,” the President said last night. In the course of his interview, however, Mr. Obama made

The National Football League has implemented a new stadium policy that would ban off-duty police officers from carrying guns into games. Cleveland’s police union president worried the policy would stop officers from assisting if a dangerous situation arose. Off-duty police officers often will carry their weapons on them, according to the union president, because “when we walk through city streets, we’re police officers too” and “you never know what’s going to happen, or when it’s going to happen,” he said. They´re so fed up with students quoting the camel commercial that they´ve banned all references to the spot, which is, apparently, a thing that seemed reasonable to them. "Everybody´s walking around in the hallways and saying it´s hump day in that weird voice," said Brooke Lewis, who is a student at Vernon Center Middle School.

At least every week now, there is a new story supporting the narrative of an inevitable 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential bid. Indeed, the conventional wisdom is that it is an absolute certainty that she will run. If anyone is currently saying, flat out, that Hillary isn´t running, I haven´t come across them. Is the inevitability of her run really as certain as the conventional wisdom suggests, and further, is it unfolding in an optimal manner for the potential candidate? In all likelihood, Clinton will not make a final, "go-or-no-go" decision until early next year, after the dust has settled from

The school of literary criticism known as reception theory holds that a text should be studied in light of its effect on its contemporaries, that a reader should be aware of the “horizon of expectations” in which a text is produced. I was reminded of this the other day as I observed, in amusement, fascination, and occasional pity, the reaction of the so-called mainstream media to Alana Goodman’s lengthy and rock-solid report on “The Hillary Papers.” This trove of previously unexamined transcriptions of conversations between Hillary Clinton and her best friend Diane Blair had been collecting dust at the University

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. — The UAW suffered a devastating defeat at Volkswagen’s plant here as workers rejected union representation by a 712-626 margin. The defeat, which came despite Volkswagen’s neutrality, tarnishes UAW President Bob King’s legacy and could make it next to impossible for the union to extend its reach beyond domestic automakers.
“While we certainly would have liked a victory for workers here, we deeply respect the Volkswagen Global Group Works Council, Volkswagen management and (German union) IG Metall for doing their best to create a free and open atmosphere for workers to exercise their basic human right to form a union,” King said in a statement.

But few thought the figures would be this bad. That 50,000 figure could be as little as 15 percent of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents, according to estimates by people in the industry, including the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation. No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps
