Retail giants Target and Home Depot and pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk have joined the growing list of partners who can’t stand the heat and are staying out of Paula Deen’s kitchen. The 66-year-old celebrity chef has been broiling in disgrace since her admission in a deposition that she used the N-word went public last week. The most recent defections come less than a week after the Food Network announced it wouldn’t renew the contract of its biggest star and a day after Wal-Mart and Caesars Entertainment dropped Deen like a burnt casserole. “We have made a decision
Comments: What sponsors are still with her? Anyone know?
Man, she must have really irked someone to get palinized like this. I´m no fan of hers, never seen her show (though her recipe for ooey-gooey butter cake is sinfully delicious), but I do have to agree with her plea to let he who is without sin cast that first stone. Are we so sensitive that we have to destroy someone who used the infamous "n-word" ( how I hate that term) many years ago? What a nation of politically correct wusses we´ve become. But seriously, what did Deen do and to whom?
Guess I´ll feel better about this when someone loses their jobs and endorsements for saying creepy ass crackers which is common terminology, readily accepted by the people condemning Deen.Obviously her books sales are a protest over the obscene political correctness going on today.I haven´t seen Chik a filet go under yet.
I will remember those companies who didn´t have the courage to take her sincere apology to heart. I will forget to buy their products and patronize their businesses.
This has gotten far too out of hand. She isn´t nearly the troll she is being portrayed as being, but the Left is using her as a warning shot: Don´t say anything bad about minorities, and especially about FLOTUS.
Remember Obama´s promise to "reward our friends and punish our enemies." This is what it looks like.
Why is no one coming to her defense? Far worse things are being said and done against conservatives than against black people by a lone woman cooking show host. It´s all out of proportion to her "sin".
As for me, I´ll buy her products and her cookbooks, even though I don´t need either.
This is unbelievable! Someone needs to stand up with her, after all it was 30 years ago. Why do people of the darker complexion get to say the "n" word all day long but not if you´re white. They are rolling on the floor laughing. Ophra needs to stand with Paula and stop this nonsense. How´s that, you creepy white a-- cracker!!
This is the same thing that happened to Mark Fuhrman after the OJ trial but he only lost his job. I guess her being a democrat and voting for Fairy Barry didn´t make a difference when someone wanted to take her down.
Let´s see... Sarah Palin emerges as a credible threat to the Democrats, and so a "spontaneous" campaign of personal destruction begins with endless ridicule and bashing that continues to this day. The CEO of Chick Fil-A professes his Christian faith and belief in traditional marriage, and the mayors of Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco declare the company unwelcome in their towns because... well because chicken sandwiches are icky, or something. And Chick Fil-A doesn´t represent Chicago "values," whatever they are. Now Paula Deen is being gang raped for some reason that has nothing to do with a word she uttered 30 years ago. These kinds of campaigns are not spontaneous eruptions of popular opinion. They are being directed from the top. If we cave in from collective cowardice, we, all of us, will live in fear forever. Paula Deen will survive this. Perhaps Roger Ailes should pick up her show for FOX, or she could become a spokes person for Chick Fil-A. Why not? They´re southern too. Don´t give in to the bullies.
Although I think the N-word thing is a needless kerfuffle, I am not involved with Deen. Met her once and sat with a man from her home town who, when she spoke to our gathering, said her accent was as phony as a three dollar bill.
She has been an entrepreneur who made it big as a novelty. Novelties usually have limited shelf lives. Her sponsors dropped her because of that - the N-word just gave them an easy way out.
This whole story has exposed some real ugliness, and it´s not Paula Deen´s allegedly, offensive words. Just like the Chick-fil-A episode, "we the people" will determine whether or not we buy Paula´s products.
I will buy her products just to spite the PC police and the people who have made a mountain out of a mole hill. Also I will not patronize Target, Home Depot, and any others of her sponsors who have jumped the gun on excommunicating Paula.
The so-called N word isn´t nearly as offensive to me as the swear words too many people use in everyday conversations - GD and JC. Think about it people, those two terms roll off the tongues of people across all spectra of American society and no one loses contracts and their livelihood.
There is no Commandment in the big Ten which says "Thou Shall Not use a made up word(derived from the noun Negro) to describe a person of color no matter how offensive said made up word has become in the American culture."
After all of this nonsense, I´d rather run the risk of offending a person who acts in a niggardly way when they hear the N word than to offend the majesty of He who gave his life for me.
I´m not a Paula Deen fan. I don´t like her cooking and especially can´t stand her idiot sons. But nonetheless, these sponsors dropping her for something said years maybe decades ago is foolishness to the millionth power! I have stopped shopping at HomeDepot, Target, Starbucks and a few others within the past 4 years only because I can see their left leaning/green/save the planet none sense playing out.
#14, I don´t know about a "man from her hometown" but I grew up about thirty miles away from Albany, GA and that´s exactly how most people down there talk. In fact, the joke is that you can tell a real South Georgian by the way they say "boiled egg" (yeah, it makes Yankees laugh) and that is precisely the way this woman says it.
I´m not a big fan of Deen´s, but the way, she´s as "me,me,me" as the Obamas, but I do know what a real like person from SOWEGA (that´s ´South West Georgia, BTW) sounds like. They sound like Paula Deen, many of them.

I used to buy Smithfield ham. No more. I can´t boycott all the companies that dropped her or I´d have no where to shop, but I do plan on letting them know I am very angry at them.
I remember years ago, golfer Fuzzy Zoeller made a joke about Tiger Woods and fried chicken and his endorsers dropped him flat. I don´t golf (silly game) but I have never set foot in a K-Mart since they dropped him.
The bottom line is that Deen miscalculated the cost of not settling with the people suing her. She called paying $1.25 Million extortion. And now, she has lost everything. She had an out of control family that cost her everything. I want to empathize with her, but knowing she is a big liberal causes me to suspect that the victim she is being played for is nothing more than to rely on the compassion of the conservatives to try to rally support for her.
So much for her being a Democrat and supporting Obama! Paula has given to a lot of causes to help the poor. Rappers use such foul language and the N word and ugly words about women and yet the left praise them. What a mess American is in!!!!
When is MSNBC going to drop Al Sharpton for his racist language against whites and Jews? Jessie Jackson called Jews "Himies" and is still going strong. They obviously wanted to get rid of her for some other reason, but ended up looking like idiots. I do not like the Food Network anymore anyway. Hate those stupid Chop Shows and the new food chefs are boring. Paula was fun and one did want to try what she was cooking up.
#2 is exactly right - Paula is being pilloried because she exposed FLOTUS´ hypocrisy. Although I am no fan of her, or anyone associated with the Food Network, this woman is being destroyed because she exposed the emperor´s new clothes. Those thugs in White House will eliminate any dissenters. I can´t believe this is America. God help us.
I am beginning to wonder if this really has anything at all to do with Paula Deen and is really an attack on white Southerners.
There seems to be VERY coordinated effort to ruin her a la the Palin/Chik-fil-A route. Most of the votes against amnesty came from the southern Senators, and now Wendy Davis is hailed as a savior of killing children.
It just seems like the woman has been piled on rather quickly like the Old Testament days the way people treated lepers.
As far as Al Sharpton goes, do a Wiki search on "Freddie´s Fashion Mart" and see what comes up. Sharpton has blood on his hands and by rights should be cooling his heels in prison, not anchoring a chair on some cable TV network. The man is a disgrace and should be shunned by all decent people.
Let me lay this out for you , folks. When someone asked the hapless Paula if she had ever ever used the N word ever in her life at any time, she said "yes." She referred to the occasion when, after being held up at gunpoint by some black thugs, she was telling her husband about the incident and used the N-word to describe the thugs. She was not bandying this word about on a daily basis, abusing her employees with it. So how come thugs like Jay-Z and other rappers are praised, lauded and rewarded with hundreds of millions of dollars for calling each other that word and putting it in their "music"? And why is it that the obese hog who testified for the last two days in the Zimmerman trial in Florida says that calling white people "cracker "is not a racist term, (but she did say it was "offensive,") when we all know that it is? I´m sick and tired of being referred to as a cracker, hœnkey, Whitey, and youwhitemotherf*cker by the blacks and then being expected to say thank you to them. America is lost. Blacks are above the law and are free to maraud at will, like last year in Chicago, Philly, Baltimore etc. be prepared. This is Øbamaland. We have become Zimbabwe and the worst is yet to come.
We better get used to the censoring. This is the Democrat´s way. Use to call it Facism. They´ll use the IRS, EPA, Education, etc. to go after anything and everything 3C´s. Conservative, Christian or Countrymen. Obamacare enlists a large group of people to get everyone on board. These are the same people who will sign you up to vote and know where you live to they can take you to the polls. Any knew Democratic legislation will be designed to get out the vote and to suppress their opponents.
Paula Deen´s mistake was she kept groveling trying to win approval from the MSM. Sensing blood in the water, they piled on. There´s nothing they like more than destroying someone who´s "not one of us." Even though she´s a lib, she speaks with a southern accent, so she´s fair game. She should have just apologized and then refused to talk anymore. She may have still lost a lot of contracts, but she would have at least retained her dignity.
It wasn´t just the TV interview, she did an interview with The Daily Mail in the UK after the show was televised, where she professed to be shocked by how much food Michelle put away, both on and off camera, when she guested on Deen´s show.
And the word she said? 30 years ago? She said it regarding a creep who shoved a gun in her face and robbed her when she worked in a restaurant. Saw that tidbit when this kerfuffle started. That robber creep deserves no respect from anyone.
The media has emphasized her use of one word but the issues advertisers have had with her are lot more complex. First of all, her ratings began to tank shortly after she announce she had diabetes. Second, while fans may have rallied to order her new cookbook Deen´s name wasn´t delivering long before last week. Last year I saw most of her line of cookware at 50% off in the sale aisle at my local super WalMart. It was pretty, but way overpriced and not well designed.
I´ve never liked her because I think she´s annoying. But, seriously, in the book that is her life, ONE WORD of that book is being used to destroy her entire existence. Compare that to the late Sen. Robert Byrd. The book of his life had several CHAPTERS devoted to the KKK. Think he ever used the N-word? Did anyone try to destroy him? No. They made him a Senator for four decades. Double standards, anyone?
I work at a major department store and my manager got a corporate email today telling them to mark down her products by 80 percent. Our particular store doesn´t carry her line but others in our chain do. Amazing.
I own PD´s cookbooks and enjoy them. I subscribe to her magazine and thoroughly enjoy it. I have one item of her cookware, her steamer. It is very nice and I use it regularly. I have watched her shows in the past, but it now comes on Sat mornings and I seldom am home to watch it. I admire PD for the way she pulled herself up and worked relentlessly to achieve her dream. She has helped her family and she has given back to so many in need. I don´t believe that she and I would be friends as I don´t care for her politics and she is a little loud, but I don´t believe she deserves all this hatred toward her. I find it hard to believe that if I was a teller and some robber put a gun to my temple that I would go home and say to my husband that a young disadvantaged underprivileged person who had a legitimate complaint and deserved all the money in the bank was within his rights to scare me to death and threaten to shoot me. Maybe he was just a creepy a** cracker wannabe.
OH MY. You self righteous folks who are suppose to be conservatives whine about Liberals allowing facts to get in the way of their bullhockey. Well guess what...it sounds like you were fullible enough to swallow the MSM headlines about one N word umpteen years ago. Then you are as gullible and LoFo as the Liberals. There was NOT one reason but a number of reasons the Food Network cancelled her. It´s also why so many business, more than those named in this article, who have dropped her. Sounds like you all are just as racist as the Liberals.
Perhaps you should stop your own self righteousness and check out ALL the reasons she was fired.
No I´m no Democrat, Republican or liberal/marxist. I´m looking for Patriot Americans with Honesty, Ethics and Integrity. Know where I can find them?
Liz Cheney’s support has faded in Wyoming since the summer, according to internal polling conducted for a super PAC that’s been running ads against her and shared exclusively with POLITICO. Sen. Mike Enzi (R) has expanded his lead over the former vice president’s daughter by 12 points among likely primary voters since August. The three-term incumbent was up 52 points, 69 percent to 17 percent, in a survey conducted by Bob Wickers of The Wickers Group at the end of October. The same pollster using the same methodology found Enzi ahead by 40 points, 61 percent to 21 percent, in the last
VILLAGE OF MERTON, Wis. —She drives with her in her car and walks her on a leash, but she´s not a dog, or even a cat. She is a goose, and now a Waukesha County woman is fighting to keep her pet. WISN 12 News met Mable and her owner, Carla Thomas, in the Village of Merton Tuesday night. Mable´s been Thomas´ pet since July 2009. She bought her initially for eggs, but after Thomas had a serious motorcycle accident, she realized Mable helped her a lot. "It´s therapeutic to lower my anger, lower my blood pressure and have her, and
As voter anxiety over Obamacare´s implementation rises, congressional Republicans are moving to fix portions of the law that led to the cancelation of hundreds of thousands insurance policies nationwide while reaffirming their commitment to repeal the statute and replace it with conservative reforms. In the Senate, that has meant a reprisal of the Republican health care working group, run by GOP Policy Committee Chairman John Barrasso of Wyoming. During the debate over the legislation that in 2010 became the Affordable Care Act, Senate Republicans used this forum to plot political strategy and develop alternative health reform to counter President Obama´s.
Morris Plains, N.J.- On election eve, Chris Christie has come home to rally a few hundred supporters in Morris County, the place where he was first elected and now lives with his wife, Mary Pat, and their four children. His reelection is a foregone conclusion, as it has been for months; all that anyone gathered at the Morris County VFW hall wants to talk about is Christie’s likely 2016 presidential campaign. Before the New Jersey governor arrives, I find myself in the back of the room talking to two of his donors, one a personal friend of the governor who is
Just beneath the surface, the government’s latest employment report shows how much damage the POR (Pelosi-Obama-Reid) economy, now well into its sixth year, has done to the country’s economic fabric. The impact of Obamacare, if it isn’t stopped, will only compound it. Even the relatively decent news in Uncle Sam’s October report was suspect. Employers are said to have added 204,000 seasonally adjusted jobs. But as the Associated Press noted, the government, thanks to the 17 percent government shutdown, had an extra week to retrieve its surveys from employers, and therefore had a higher than usual response rate. It doesn’t seem as
Either version of the law (Upton’s or Landrieu’s) likely creates an adverse selection problem that will further hurt the insurance industry, which let’s recall, was in bed with the administration on Obamacare because of all the new customers that would be required to buy its product. Obamacare has, with an impressive combination of incompetence and irony, seemingly been optimized to create a death spiral. But is it logistically possible for people to keep their plans? For insurance companies to reinstate them? John McCormack at the Weekly Standard: With millions of Americans losing their health insurance because of Obamacare, bills have been introduced
Democrats are beginning to show signs of division as the House of Representatives prepares to vote this week to ensure that the millions of Americans who have received cancellation notices of their health care plans can keep their preferred coverage. The Keep Your Health Plan Act, which would allow insurance plans currently available to individuals to be offered in 2014 without penalty under the law’s individual mandate, is expected to come up for a vote in the House this Friday. After former President Clinton called on President Obama to “honor the commitment” that if you like your health insurance you can keep
ROSCOE, S.D. -- Robert Malsam nearly went broke in the 1980s when corn was cheap. So now that prices are high and he can finally make a profit, he´s not about to apologize for ripping up prairieland to plant corn. Across the Dakotas and Nebraska, more than 1 million acres of the Great Plains are giving way to cornfields as farmers transform the wild expanse that once served as the backdrop for American pioneers. This expansion of the Corn Belt is fueled in part by America´s green energy policy, which requires oil companies to blend billions of gallons of corn ethanol into
The 82-year-old Iranian woman keeps the documents that upended her life in an old suitcase near her bed. She removes them carefully and peers at the tiny Persian script. There’s the court order authorizing the takeover of her children’s three Tehran apartments in a multi-story building the family had owned for years. There’s the letter announcing the sale of one of the units. And there’s the notice demanding she pay rent on her own apartment on the top floor. Pari Vahdat-e-Hagh ultimately lost her property. It was taken by an organization that is controlled by the most powerful man in
Former Rep. Thad McCotter, the Michigan Republican who resigned last year after aides submitted forged nominating petitions, now alleges one aide was bribed to sabotage the congressman’s political career. In a complaint filed with a local U.S. bankruptcy court, McCotter alleges his former aide, Don Yowchuang, was “motivated by the promise of financial gain” when he submitted nominating petitions for the then-congressman’s re-election with duplicate signatures, according to The Detroit News. The complaint claims that Yowchuang needed funds to repay $20,000 that he allegedly embezzled from his fraternity at Central Michigan University, per the local newspaper. “He definitely wants to be vindicated,” David
House Republicans don´t want to do President Obama any favors, but he´s asking for one anyway. Though the White House needs the House to pass immigration reform, officials don´t know at all how to proceed — according to a Politico report, Obama has reached out to certain members of the House as well as conservative CEOs and former George W. Bush officials to try to gain ground. But White House officials haven´t had much of an agenda for those meetings besides "help." One meeting attendant told Politico, "It didn’t come across that they were really clear on who they should talk
Here are six reasons that Obamacare will only get worse for the Democrats: There will be more canceled health insurance plans. Every day, more and more Americans are receiving cancellation notices for plans they liked and wanted to keep. And every day, they continue to hear administration officials and their Democratic allies insist that the president didn’t lie about people being able to keep their health insurance plans. Dissatisfaction with Obamacare grows exponentially as people witness family members and colleagues being victimized by the “big lie.” If you like your doctor, you can’t keep your doctor. Soon the story will
President Barack Obama´s approval ratings have dipped to a record low in another poll — this time from Quinnipiac University. According to the poll, respondents disapprove of Obama´s job performance by a 54-39 margin. His approval rating of 39% is worse than his previous all-time low of 41% in the Quinnipiac survey, which came after a bruising fight over raising the nation´s debt ceiling in 2011. And for the first time ever, most people (52%) say that Obama is not honest and trustworthy. Only 44% say that he is honest and trustworthy. The only individual issue on which Obama scores
Washington: A woman, who claims to have been a classmate of Barack Obama, said that the president was gay and used cocaine in school. In a bizarre interview, Mia Marie Pope told right-wing preacher James David Manning that she believes Obama was not only active within the gay community, but also a heavy cocaine user during his years in Hawaii. Pope said that Obama always portrayed himself as a foreign student, adding that girls were never anything that he ever was interested in, but he would get along with older white gay men. She added that Obama at that time was also
Amazing stuff via Mediaite. The “Keep Your Plan Act” is Fred Upton’s bill, which Jay Carney spent a few minutes attacking at today’s press briefing because it would make canceled plans available to all consumers, not just the ones who’d been enrolled in those plans before. That would be a disaster for the insurance industry. Healthy people would flee the new, more expensive plans for the resurrected cheaper ones, leaving no one in the new risk pool except sick people with very expensive treatments. That means either heavy losses for insurers, steep premium hikes next year to make up the
WASHINGTON — While the country is immersed in Obamacare headlines and a congressional tussle over delays and mandates, the Obama administration is stealthily moving toward unprecedented control over private property under a massive expansion of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Water Act authority. The proposed rule, obtained by the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee in advance of EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy’s testimony at a Thursday oversight hearing, widely broadens the definition of waterways over which the federal government has jurisdiction to as little as a water ditch in a backyard. The Clean Water Act redefinition of “waters of the United States”
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at the unraveling of Obamacare. First, the obligatory caveats. It is no laughing matter that millions of Americans’ lives have been thrown into anxious chaos as they lose their health insurance, their doctors, their money, or all three. Nor is it particularly amusing to think of the incredible waste of time and tax dollars that has gone into Obamacare’s construction. And the still-unfolding violence that this misbegotten legislation will visit on the economy and our liberties is not funny either. This very magazine has been downright
In his 2007 biography of Barack Obama, Obama: From Promise to Power, Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendell described the exchange he had with then-Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama just minutes before he delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston: After Obama and I slipped through a security checkpoint and he momentarily broke free from the entourage, I sidled up to him and told him that he seemed to be impressing many people of influence in this rarefied atmosphere. Obama, his gaze fixed directly ahead, never broke his stride. “I´m LeBron, baby,” he replied, referring to LeBron
Those sophisticates at Time magazine made a funny. They put Chris Christie on their cover with the headline, "The Elephant in the Room." Get it? Elephant. Christie. Time magazine did a junior high fat joke right there on its cover. Time´s executive editor Michael Duffy explained the cheap shot this way: "Well, he´s obviously a big guy. He´s obviously a big Republican. But he´s also done a really huge thing here this week." The "huge thing" wasn´t only winning re-election as New Jersey´s governor, but doing it by appealing to a broad range of voters in a very blue state
On Wednesday, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) introduced a bill in the Senate that would allow Americans to keep their health insurance plans for a limit of two years. “I have repeatedly said that the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect,” Udall said, “and it will need to be improved as it is implemented.” Udall already wants to push off the open enrollment deadline on the Obamacare health exchanges until the end of May. But Udall’s plan isn’t the only one in the offing. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) has introduced the “Keeping the Affordable Care Act Promise Act,” co-sponsored by Sens. Dianne
Something is seriously wrong with conservatism. Since Ronald Reagan’s last year in office, Republicans have only twice won a majority of votes cast for president—both times with a George Bush atop the ticket. And neither Bush was a conservative. For 25 years, something has prevented conservatives from winning the White House and prevented the Republicans who do win from governing as conservatives. What could it be? The Tea Party has an answer: RINOs—liberal Republicans in Name Only—have sabotaged the right, most recently in October when they collaborated with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling and end the government shutdown. Once RINOs are
Protesting and getting arrested for civil disobedience wasn’t enough to move the needle on immigration, so activists announced Tuesday they are beginning a hunger fast to try to pressure Congress to pass a bill legalizing illegal immigrants. Saying they’ve done all they can to try to shift the political debate, the activists said the only option left is to pray and fast. “It is being blocked, and the political commentators will tell you it would be a miracle — that’s what they say — a miracle for immigration reform to pass. Sometimes you can organize and struggle and march as hard as
President Obama’s former spiritual advisor Joshua DuBois joined The O’Reilly Factor to talk about his new book, “The President´s Devotional: Daily Readings That Inspired Obama.” He told Bill O’Reilly, “The president’s a committed Christian and his faith is a really important part of his life. Every single morning for the last six years he’s woken up and read these devotionals to try grow closer to God and closer to his neighbors as well.” DuBois recalled going with the president to visit Reverend Billy Graham. “He doesn’t wear this stuff on his sleeve. That’s not the kind guy he is, but he
President Barack Obama issued a statement yesterday congratulating Hawaii for legalizing same-sex marriage, a move he said "exemplifies the values we hold dear as a nation." "I want to congratulate the Hawaii State Legislature on passing legislation in support of marriage equality," said Obama. "With today’s vote, Hawaii joins a growing number of states that recognize that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be treated fairly and equally under the law. Whenever freedom and equality are affirmed, our country becomes stronger. By giving loving gay and lesbian couples the right to marry if they choose, Hawaii exemplifies the
