Paula Deen N-word controversy costs
her lucrative deals with Target,
Home Depot; diabetes drug maker
Novo Nordisk suspends relationship

New York Daily News, by Ethan Sacks

Retail giants Target and Home Depot and pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk have joined the growing list of partners who can’t stand the heat and are staying out of Paula Deen’s kitchen. The 66-year-old celebrity chef has been broiling in disgrace since her admission in a deposition that she used the N-word went public last week. The most recent defections come less than a week after the Food Network announced it wouldn’t renew the contract of its biggest star and a day after Wal-Mart and Caesars Entertainment dropped Deen like a burnt casserole. “We have made a decision

Man, she must have really irked someone to get palinized like this. I´m no fan of hers, never seen her show (though her recipe for ooey-gooey butter cake is sinfully delicious), but I do have to agree with her plea to let he who is without sin cast that first stone. Are we so sensitive that we have to destroy someone who used the infamous "n-word" ( how I hate that term) many years ago? What a nation of politically correct wusses we´ve become. But seriously, what did Deen do and to whom?

I will remember those companies who didn´t have the courage to take her sincere apology to heart. I will forget to buy their products and patronize their businesses.

This has gotten far too out of hand. She isn´t nearly the troll she is being portrayed as being, but the Left is using her as a warning shot: Don´t say anything bad about minorities, and especially about FLOTUS.

Remember Obama´s promise to "reward our friends and punish our enemies." This is what it looks like.

Why is no one coming to her defense? Far worse things are being said and done against conservatives than against black people by a lone woman cooking show host. It´s all out of proportion to her "sin".

As for me, I´ll buy her products and her cookbooks, even though I don´t need either.

Let´s see... Sarah Palin emerges as a credible threat to the Democrats, and so a "spontaneous" campaign of personal destruction begins with endless ridicule and bashing that continues to this day. The CEO of Chick Fil-A professes his Christian faith and belief in traditional marriage, and the mayors of Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco declare the company unwelcome in their towns because... well because chicken sandwiches are icky, or something. And Chick Fil-A doesn´t represent Chicago "values," whatever they are. Now Paula Deen is being gang raped for some reason that has nothing to do with a word she uttered 30 years ago. These kinds of campaigns are not spontaneous eruptions of popular opinion. They are being directed from the top. If we cave in from collective cowardice, we, all of us, will live in fear forever. Paula Deen will survive this. Perhaps Roger Ailes should pick up her show for FOX, or she could become a spokes person for Chick Fil-A. Why not? They´re southern too. Don´t give in to the bullies.

Although I think the N-word thing is a needless kerfuffle, I am not involved with Deen. Met her once and sat with a man from her home town who, when she spoke to our gathering, said her accent was as phony as a three dollar bill.

She has been an entrepreneur who made it big as a novelty. Novelties usually have limited shelf lives. Her sponsors dropped her because of that - the N-word just gave them an easy way out.

This whole story has exposed some real ugliness, and it´s not Paula Deen´s allegedly, offensive words. Just like the Chick-fil-A episode, "we the people" will determine whether or not we buy Paula´s products.

I will buy her products just to spite the PC police and the people who have made a mountain out of a mole hill. Also I will not patronize Target, Home Depot, and any others of her sponsors who have jumped the gun on excommunicating Paula.

The so-called N word isn´t nearly as offensive to me as the swear words too many people use in everyday conversations - GD and JC. Think about it people, those two terms roll off the tongues of people across all spectra of American society and no one loses contracts and their livelihood.

There is no Commandment in the big Ten which says "Thou Shall Not use a made up word(derived from the noun Negro) to describe a person of color no matter how offensive said made up word has become in the American culture."

After all of this nonsense, I´d rather run the risk of offending a person who acts in a niggardly way when they hear the N word than to offend the majesty of He who gave his life for me.

#14, I don´t know about a "man from her hometown" but I grew up about thirty miles away from Albany, GA and that´s exactly how most people down there talk. In fact, the joke is that you can tell a real South Georgian by the way they say "boiled egg" (yeah, it makes Yankees laugh) and that is precisely the way this woman says it.

I´m not a big fan of Deen´s, but the way, she´s as "me,me,me" as the Obamas, but I do know what a real like person from SOWEGA (that´s ´South West Georgia, BTW) sounds like. They sound like Paula Deen, many of them.

The bottom line is that Deen miscalculated the cost of not settling with the people suing her. She called paying $1.25 Million extortion. And now, she has lost everything. She had an out of control family that cost her everything. I want to empathize with her, but knowing she is a big liberal causes me to suspect that the victim she is being played for is nothing more than to rely on the compassion of the conservatives to try to rally support for her.

When is MSNBC going to drop Al Sharpton for his racist language against whites and Jews? Jessie Jackson called Jews "Himies" and is still going strong. They obviously wanted to get rid of her for some other reason, but ended up looking like idiots. I do not like the Food Network anymore anyway. Hate those stupid Chop Shows and the new food chefs are boring. Paula was fun and one did want to try what she was cooking up.

I am beginning to wonder if this really has anything at all to do with Paula Deen and is really an attack on white Southerners.

There seems to be VERY coordinated effort to ruin her a la the Palin/Chik-fil-A route. Most of the votes against amnesty came from the southern Senators, and now Wendy Davis is hailed as a savior of killing children.

It just seems like the woman has been piled on rather quickly like the Old Testament days the way people treated lepers.

As far as Al Sharpton goes, do a Wiki search on "Freddie´s Fashion Mart" and see what comes up. Sharpton has blood on his hands and by rights should be cooling his heels in prison, not anchoring a chair on some cable TV network. The man is a disgrace and should be shunned by all decent people.

Let me lay this out for you , folks. When someone asked the hapless Paula if she had ever ever used the N word ever in her life at any time, she said "yes." She referred to the occasion when, after being held up at gunpoint by some black thugs, she was telling her husband about the incident and used the N-word to describe the thugs. She was not bandying this word about on a daily basis, abusing her employees with it. So how come thugs like Jay-Z and other rappers are praised, lauded and rewarded with hundreds of millions of dollars for calling each other that word and putting it in their "music"? And why is it that the obese hog who testified for the last two days in the Zimmerman trial in Florida says that calling white people "cracker "is not a racist term, (but she did say it was "offensive,") when we all know that it is? I´m sick and tired of being referred to as a cracker, hœnkey, Whitey, and youwhitemotherf*cker by the blacks and then being expected to say thank you to them. America is lost. Blacks are above the law and are free to maraud at will, like last year in Chicago, Philly, Baltimore etc. be prepared. This is Øbamaland. We have become Zimbabwe and the worst is yet to come.

These are the same people who will sign you up to vote and know where you live to they can take you to the polls. Paula Deen´s mistake was she kept groveling trying to win approval from the MSM. Sensing blood in the water, they piled on. There´s nothing they like more than destroying someone who´s "not one of us." Even though she´s a lib, she speaks with a southern accent, so she´s fair game. She should have just apologized and then refused to talk anymore. She may have still lost a lot of contracts, but she would have at least retained her dignity.

It wasn´t just the TV interview, she did an interview with The Daily Mail in the UK after the show was televised, where she professed to be shocked by how much food Michelle put away, both on and off camera, when she guested on Deen´s show.

And the word she said? 30 years ago? She said it regarding a creep who shoved a gun in her face and robbed her when she worked in a restaurant. Saw that tidbit when this kerfuffle started. That robber creep deserves no respect from anyone.

The media has emphasized her use of one word but the issues advertisers have had with her are lot more complex. First of all, her ratings began to tank shortly after she announce she had diabetes. Second, while fans may have rallied to order her new cookbook Deen´s name wasn´t delivering long before last week. Last year I saw most of her line of cookware at 50% off in the sale aisle at my local super WalMart. It was pretty, but way overpriced and not well designed.

I´ve never liked her because I think she´s annoying. But, seriously, in the book that is her life, ONE WORD of that book is being used to destroy her entire existence. Compare that to the late Sen. Robert Byrd. The book of his life had several CHAPTERS devoted to the KKK. Think he ever used the N-word? Did anyone try to destroy him? No. They made him a Senator for four decades. Double standards, anyone?

I own PD´s cookbooks and enjoy them. I subscribe to her magazine and thoroughly enjoy it. I have one item of her cookware, her steamer. It is very nice and I use it regularly. I have watched her shows in the past, but it now comes on Sat mornings and I seldom am home to watch it. I admire PD for the way she pulled herself up and worked relentlessly to achieve her dream. She has helped her family and she has given back to so many in need. I don´t believe that she and I would be friends as I don´t care for her politics and she is a little loud, but I don´t believe she deserves all this hatred toward her. I find it hard to believe that if I was a teller and some robber put a gun to my temple that I would go home and say to my husband that a young disadvantaged underprivileged person who had a legitimate complaint and deserved all the money in the bank was within his rights to scare me to death and threaten to shoot me. Russian military drills near neighboring Finland have provoked concern that northern Europe may be the next focus of Moscow´s seemingly renewed appetite for redrawing its borders. Troops and jet fighters from all four military regions of Russia were deployed Sunday about 150 miles east of the Finnish border, according to the English-language newspaper Finnbay. The Russian defense ministry said in a statement that the exercises were pre-planned and that more than 50 fighter pilots took part. Finland was part of the Russian empire for 108 years, from 1809 until Russia’s withdrawal from World War I in 1917. The Karelia region,

WASHINGTON — Faced with a strong prospect of losing control of the Senate in November, Democrats have begun a high-stakes effort to try to overcome one of their party´s big weaknesses: voters who don´t show up for midterm elections. The party´s Senate campaign committee plans to spend $60 million to boost turnout. That´s nine times what it spent in the last midterm election, in 2010. The Democratic National Committee has begun to make the sophisticated data analysis tools developed to target voters in the 2012 presidential campaign available to all the party´s candidates. And from President Obama on down, influential Democrats have hammered

Nothing surprising here but the quotes are oh so tasty. Including one that comes, secondhand, from Paul himself. Is that what the last month of Russia-bashing and Tomahawk-praising was all about? Is Rand … “evolving” on foreign policy? The [Republican Jewish Coalition] conference brings together some of the biggest names — and wallets — in Republican politics, most notably billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson. At a private dinner for VIP donors in an Adelson-owned aircraft hangar holding one of his pair of Boeing 747s, Bush was asked about the growing isolationist wing of the Republican Party and replied there was no such

If you read Russian news and follow Internet debates, you´d think that Russia was on the verge of civil war if you didn´t know better. Like in other civil wars, the front line runs between colleagues, friends and even family members. The division is over the annexation of Crimea and attitudes toward Ukraine. "Old friends break off relations, children have stopped talking to their parents, and I´ve even heard about divorces. It is insane," the prominent psychologist Lyudmila Petranovskaya wrote on her LiveJournal blog. President Vladimir Putin set the aggressive tone of the debate in his Crimea speech two weeks ago

Kostya Kennedy in his new biography, Pete Rose: An American Dilemma, examines the hit king’s impressive baseball career and fall from grace in an era of asterisks. His chapters alternate between Rose’s impressive chronology and present-day Cooperstown. For anyone who missed it, Pete Rose won Rookie of the Year with the Cincinnati Reds in 1963. MVP awards and six World Series appearances followed. He left for Philadelphia in 1979 as the highest-paid athlete in America. In 1984 he was “repatriated to the Reds” as player-manager and soon broke Ty Cobb’s all-time hit record. His professional baseball days ended in 1989

Iran has named a member of the militant group that held 52 Americans hostage in Tehran for 444 days to be its next ambassador to the United Nations. The Iranian government has applied for a U.S. visa for Hamid Aboutalebi, Iran’s former ambassador to Belgium and Italy, who was a member of the Muslim Students Following the Imam’s Line, a group of radical students that seized the U.S. embassy on Nov. 4, 1979. Imam was an honorific used for Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution. Relations between the Islamic Republic and the U.S. and its allies are beginning to

I’ve gone through a few reports of this story and it’s still not clear why Kevin Mclaughlin went into the Dollar General in Orrville, Alabama last week, but it certainly wasn’t to find a good deal on tube socks. He began shouting and waving a gun around, herding customers and an employee into a back room. Things were looking bad, but that’s when he ran into Marlo Ellis. One person is dead after a customer at the Dollar General in Orrville began shouting and waving his gun in the air. Dallas County Sheriff

Authorities in Washington state said Sunday that dog teams assisting in the search effort after last week´s deadly mudslide would be given two days off as the official death toll increased from 18 to 21. The dogs can lose their sensing ability if overworked in the cold and rain. "The conditions on the slide field are difficult, so this is just a time to take care of the dogs," said Kris Rietmann, a spokeswoman for the team working on the eastern portion of the slide, which hit March 22 about 55 miles northeast of Seattle and is one of the deadliest in

WASHINGTON -- Even if Democrats recruit great candidates, raise gobs of money and run smart campaigns, they face an uphill fight to retake control of the House in this year´s congressional elections, regardless of the political climate in November. The reason? Republican strategists spent years developing a plan to take advantage of the 2010 census, first by winning state legislatures and then redrawing House districts to tilt the playing field in their favor. Their success was unprecedented. In states like Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina, Republicans were able to shape congressional maps to pack as many Democratic voters as possible into the

The search for debris from missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370 has not turned up any evidence of a crash, but it has trained the world’s gaze on thousands of pieces of junk floating on the ocean’s surface. Much of that debris could be made up of plastics, old appliances or parts of homes that have washed away from fragile communities, and cargo containers from ships, according to ocean advocacy group One World One Ocean. The news media were ecstatic when the government said in January that the economy grew by 3.2 percent in the final three months of 2013. It was convincing proof, they said on the nightly news, that the economy had finally recovered from its chronic lethargy. However, according to a revised estimate released Thursday by the U.S. Commerce Department´s Bureau of Economic Analysis, that 3.2 percent figure was a wild exaggeration. The U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), the broadest measure of our country’s entire economic output, grew no more than 2.6 percent in the fourth quarter — a pitifully low growth rate for

If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

YOKOHAMA, Japan — Climate change is already having sweeping effects on every continent and throughout the world’s oceans, scientists reported Monday, and they warned that the problem is likely to grow substantially worse unless greenhouse emissions are brought under control. The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations group that periodically summarizes climate science, concluded that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying, and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or

A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. The March 26 decision by the NLRB´s Chicago regional director, Peter Sung Ohr, held that scholarship football players are "employees" for purposes of federal labor law. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. The new rules set rear visibility standards that automakers will initially be able to meet only by installing cameras. Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in
