The Obama administration on Wednesday broadened an exemption for American Indians from the new health care law´s requirement that virtually every U.S. resident has health insurance starting next year. New rules clarify that people who are eligible to receive medical care through the federal Indian Health Service will be exempt from the requirement to have health insurance or face fines from the Internal Revenue Service.
Comments: Again we must ask: If Obamacare is so great, why so many waivers sought and given, mainly to Obama-friendly groups like Unions?
If we are all supposed to be equal under the law, why are there exceptions. If one has to obey, everyone in the country should have to obey. And not just with Obamacare. Especially taxes. All or nothing is the way it should be.
No exemptions for federal employees--your frontline desk jockeys who provide the service? Hardly, they are the political football of both parties. Reagan hated the feds except the big guys at the top got grade inflation and raises while the bottom half got pay freezes. Saved Medicare by mandating Medicare membership and deductions for gov workers (except Congress, of course--the gravy they were promised them on entry and swear-in seems to be in a stron lockbox called self-interest)
Serves the fed workers who choose self interest over country in election because now the dems will do it to them. Condoning the lack of rights for the unborn in order to elect democrats for the pocketbook is a sellout with untold ramifications if you are a football. The rest of us Post Traumatic Election Fraud fellars, still numb that our fellow Americans would vote twice for this socialist teacher of the Alinsky Method. The obama´s piece of the pie grows as white majority American wealth shrinks. Marx happily pats the Devil´s back as they sit together in Hell?
To #12 and #13 - Many MILLIONS of individuals worked DECADES for the Federal Government, often for the expressed purpose of the benefits after retirement. Additionally, we HATE Obamacare and the unjust exemptions just as much as you appear to. We PAID for our healthcare benefits and we do not want them taken away by being mandated to join a socialist system which will destroy the health care services we are entitled to. You are ill informed.
When Congress wants to be exempted from their own law, you know the law is a piece of garbage. There are so many ´exemptions´ being granted that there will be few left to be covered by the law. Religious groups, Native-American groups, Unions, and so forth. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE FOR ALL ???
In meetings Wednesday and Thursday, House Speaker John Boehner reached out to key Democrat leaders, hoping to restart negotiations to avoid a government shutdown and reach a deal on lifting the nation´s debt ceiling. In a meeting with Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, Boehner sought help from the Obama Administration to resolve the short-term budget issues and overcome a block of conservative lawmakers demanding a delay or defunding of ObamaCare. “It’s time for the president’s party to show the courage to work with us to solve this problem,” Mr. Boehner said.
After Democrats lost seats in the Colorado state legislature due to a recall vote of two State Senators over their active support of tighter gun control laws, further scrutiny fell upon the seven-year old organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG). The group, co-founded and co-chaired by New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, is responsible for pushing gun control legislation across the country, including in Colorado. Prior to her defeat during the Colorado recall, Democratic State Senator Angela Giron told The New Republic on September 10 if she or fellow Democrat State Senator John Morse were
A leading labor union boss delivered an impassioned rebuke of Obamacare at the AFL-CIO convention Thursday, telling attendees, "we´ll be damned if we´re going to lose our health insurance because of unintended consequences in the law!" Laborers´ International Union of North America (LIUNA) President Terry O´Sullivan said, "if the Affordable Care Act is not fixed, and it destroys the health and welfare funds that we have all fought for and stand for, then I believe it needs to be repealed. We don´t want it repealed. We want it fixed, fixed, fixed."
US President Barack Obama will ask Moscow what happened to Swedish Holocaust hero Raoul Wallenberg after he was taken into Soviet custody and disappeared in 1945, Wallenberg´s family told Swedish media. Wallenberg was posted as a Swedish diplomat to Nazi-occupied Budapest in July 1944 and rescued tens of thousands of Jews by issuing them protective passports in the final months of the Holocaust.
The recent war of words between George Clooney and hedge fund kingpin Daniel Loeb was quite significant. What appears to just be another investor tired of Hollywood political flops, in reality, is a public face on a very private fight. One raging within Hollywood itself. The future of Hollywood political preach fests is dire, here are the main reasons why: 1. The Avengers (May 2012) While Hollywood releasing left wing films is nothing new, the fight over them took on another level with the release of this superhero feature. The reason being as follows: to justify the making of...
When Gary Knell became CEO of National Public Radio (NPR) it was in the wake of James O´Keefe´s hidden video exposé showing the fundraising arm of the publicly funded radio network trashing Republicans and seemingly complicit with receiving donations from a group purportedly aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood. Knell claimed that his top priority was to "depoliticize" the debate over public radio. Twenty months later, Knell has announced his resignation: "I will be leaving NPR after my term ends in late fall to join the National Geographic Society as its President and CEO. I was approached by the organization recently and offered
The Department of Health and Human Services is sponsoring a video contest (“the weirder and more outlandish the better”) to attract an important group of insurance subscribers it describes as "young invicibles." Under the Affordable Care Act, everyone must purchase health insurance or a pay a fine. But if young people don´t sign up for health insurance through the Obamacare exchanges, premiums for everyone else will increase, even though the Obama administration has promised "affordable" insurance for all.
An African-Anglican bishop who had his appointment as head of a Dartmouth College foundation rescinded because of past statements he made critical of homosexuality, said he is planning to seek legal counsel, according to reports in the Episcopal News Service. One of the groups opposed to Dr. Tengatenga´s now-aborted appointment was the Dartmouth chapter of the NAACP.
The Obama Administration has missed 41 of 82 legally imposed implementation deadlines, according to a confidential Congressional Research Service memo. The memo, obtained by Avik Roy of Forbes, reveals the litany of blown benchmarks: As of May 31, 2013, when the CRS analysis was completed, the White House had yet to meet 9 of 12 deadlines from the first year after the Affordable Care Act was enacted. It failed to meet 22 of 53 deadlines in the second year; another 8 became moot after Congress did not appropriate funds to complete the assigned tasks. In year three, the administration missed
Last week, the Obama administration asked the Supreme Court to rule that the Fourth Amendment allows for warrant-less cell phone searches. The administration filed a petition asking the SCOTUS to hear a 2007 case in which information was retrieved from a cell phone that was used to obtain evidence against the defendant. The defendant was subsequently convicted but upon appeal argued that the information obtained from his phone was a Fourth Amendment violation since it was obtained without a warrant. The First Circuit Court accepted this argument.

European businesses are likely to abandon the services of American internet providers because of the National Security Agency surveillance scandal, the European commission has warned. Neelie Kroes, the commission vice-president who speaks on digital affairs, predicted that providers of cloud services, which allow users to store and access data on remote servers, could suffer significant loss of business if clients fear the security of their material is under threat.
Get ready for Chelsea Clinton Bump Watch 2014 — the only daughter of the former president and former secretary of State is declaring next year the “Year of the Baby.” In an interview for the November issue of Glamour magazine on her work with the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, Clinton reveals that she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are planning for a bouncing addition to their household. According to the 33-year-old Oxford grad, the pair, who married in 2010, sat down together a year after tying the knot and made a list focused on their future, saying, “We want,
On Tuesday evening, left-wing Politico ran a headline story encapsulating the theme of the day: “Government closed, Obamacare falters.” That message marked a massive loss for the Obama administration, which has claimed that Obamacare’s implementation could not be delayed, and used that rationale as an excuse to reject the House’s proposal for a one-year delay in favor of a government shutdown. The narrative began to shift early in the morning on Tuesday, when the Drudge Report ran a lead piece on the Obamacare health exchanges coming up with error messages for users across the country. “OBAMACRASH,” Drudge headlined. He followed
DALLAS —In a shopping center parking lot 1,300 miles from Washington’s bureaucracy and bickering, teen mom Karina Luciano loaded a watermelon and baby formula into her car. Luciano didn’t realize the federal assistance program that just purchased the food items for her children, Aimee, 2, and Jaiden, 11 months, is now in jeopardy because of the government shutdown. “Oh my god, I think I’m going to cry,” Luciano said upon learning the news. “This is really bad.” Nearly 9 million low-income mothers and children receive benefits under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Congress’ inability to
First lady Michelle Obama tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that her Twitter account will see fewer updates due to the government shutdown. Due to Congress’s failure to pass legislation to fund the government, updates to this account will be limited. #Shutdown 12:55 PM - 1 Oct 2013. In 2009, FactCheck.org found that the first lady had a staff of 24 people. It is unclear whether any of the first lady’s staff have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown.
The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday. Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial. The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in. “We got the heads up
New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait spent his government shutdown day mocking WWII veterans who were shut out by the National Park Service (NPS) when they came to visit the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday morning, Representative Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and several Republican members of Congress helped tear down the barricades shutting the elderly veterans out of the WWII memorial. After the barricades were removed, dozens of veterans flooded in to conduct their often emotional visits. But, thinking he was being funny, Chait took to Twitter to poke fun at the veterans, joking that the NPS should
“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” — Barack Obama, October 30, 2008 “We are going to have to change our conversation; we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation.” — Michelle Obama, May 14, 2008 There certainly is no question that Barack Obama wants to change the United States. And there clearly is no doubt that such fundamental transformation is difficult, given our tripartite system of government — even though Obama entered office with large Democratic majorities in
Ronan Farrow’s ol’ blue eyes may say it all. Farrow, long described as the only biological child of actress Mia Farrow and New York filmmaker Woody Allen, may actually be the son of Frank Sinatra, his mom acknowledged in a bombshell report Wednesday. While Hollywood has whispered about the prospect for years, it was the first time that Mia publicly admitted the possibility. Asked point-blank by Vanity Fair about Sinatra’s possible parentage of Ronan, Mia coyly replied: “Possibly.” The “Rosemary’s Baby’’ actress was married to Ol’ Blue Eyes from 1966 to 1968 but continued to be his lover on and off afterward — including
President Barack Obama has called off his trip to Malaysia to tackle the US government shutdown, the office of Malaysia´s PM Najib Razak has said. Secretary of State John Kerry will represent him next week instead, the office said. The US government has partially shut down after the two houses of Congress failed to agree a new budget. More than 700,000 federal employees face unpaid leave, and national parks, museums and many buildings are closed. Mr Obama earlier vowed not to allow Republicans to undermine his signature healthcare legislation as a condition to restart the US government. "They demanded ransom," Mr Obama said.
The government shutdown will temporarily slash the staffs and operations of every “nonessential” federal program — which, as you can imagine, adds up to a whole lot of programs. There are the ones you know about, like the national parks and the panda cam. Then there’s everything else. Here’s 21 effects of the shutdown you might not have heard about. 1) No one will oversee the program that makes sure your organic food is actually organic. That’s called the National Organic Standards Program, and its entire staff was furloughed. Also on the Department of Agriculture furlough list: the people who check
If President Obama were really clever, he’d jump at the Republicans’ proposal in the continuing resolution to delay Obamacare for one year. A one-year delay is perhaps the only chance to prevent the Obamacare exchanges from becoming a disaster. Don’t take my word for it. Here’s Kevin Counihan, chief executive of Connecticut’s exchange, Access Health CT: “It is highly complex , it’s unprecedented and it’s not going to be smooth…. This is a two- to three-year implementation we’re doing in 10 months. I wish we had one more year.” The problem is that the test runs have revealed the exchange websites aren’t
Twenty years after Vanity Fair special correspondent Maureen Orth reported on the sexual-abuse case involving Woody Allen and Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter Dylan, Orth reconnects with Farrow to discuss her human-rights work, her relationship with Frank Sinatra, the home she created for her 14 adopted and biological children, and the scandal that nearly destroyed it, 20 years ago. For her piece in the November issue, Orth talks to eight of Farrow’s children, including the long-silent Dylan, who speaks on the record for the first time about the alleged incident. Farrow discusses her relationship with Frank Sinatra, telling Orth that Sinatra was
