Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"
So, should they all convert to Islam and attend madrasses? NO Freedom of Religion or Freedom of Association here.. Obama showing what an arse he is. What happened to the liberal battlecry of celebrate diversity?
WHERE does he come up with all this crapola? As a Protestant, I went to a Catholic girl´s school after attending public schools; they could have cared less what I was, treated me great, and I graduated with the utmost respect for the Catholic religion.
I guess Obama thinks we´re all so dumb we can´t make decisions for ourselves, really just a bunch of sheep...
The school that he sends his kids to is also encouraging division. Only the political elite can afford to send their children there. The rest of us are struggling to find a job to be able to eat and pay a mortgage - private school is out of reach for so many of us.
Easy #10. Loads of Catholics (including me) did NOT vote for Barky. Don´t paint us all with the same broad brush. Those that did vote for him are self-loathing CINOs who can´t be bothered to attend church at all and don´t have any problems with abortion.
I second #36. I´m a practicing Catholic and would NEVER vote for Obama. There are those Catholics that like to take their faith seriously. And others where being Catholic is merely part of their tribal identity.
I went to a Catholic grade school. You do not have to be a Catholic to attend. It does help because you have to take Religion class. I ended up attending a Presby (aka protestant) university. You did not have to be a Presby, but it helped because you do have to take Religion class. Agree with low info president comment.
These things of the president are never said in a vacuum, but rather reveal his and his handlers´ thinking. Perhaps this is just the opening gun for his next attack on the Catholic church and religious freedom in our own country?
The dude knows it all and has advice to spare, so it is natural for him to tell the Irish how to think and what to do about their education and religion. How did a mere mortal become so wise? He could be an extra-terrestrial, a messiah from a galaxy far, far away sent to explain to troubled earthlings how to get along and save their endangered planet. That could explain his undistinguished life -what we know of it- prior to the presidency. There is absolutely nothing on record about Barack Obama before he became president to indicate that he knows everything there is to know, not only about America but about the entire world. Yet he obviously does know everything and sees it as his mission to bring light into the darkness. Some say he is a Marxist, others that he is a Muslim, others that he is a sophomoric fool. These are not mutually exclusive possibilities, of course. But singly or in combination they cannot explain the most remarkable thing, which is that, despite any background or accomplishments or indications of special ability, Barack Obama knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING. The possibility that he is in fact a superhuman space alien deposited on earth by an advanced civilization could explain this. It is a convenient hypothesis, for it does not necessarily assume those who sent him mean us well. He could be an intergalactic Pied Piper sent to lure us to our destruction as easily as a benevolent messiah and messenger of Truth.
Dear Won are you aware Catholics have been educating the populace for nearly 2000 years. Do you really think you a minor roadblock can destroy them so easily? Do you understand over 250 Chicago schools housing mostly black kids are closing because the Ayers system is a total failure? 850 teachers received pink slips in Chi last week. If you kids were there they would be out of luck just like all the other kids lot in the Annenberg theory of education.
#10, you´re generalizing. I know many Catholics, and not one voted for Obama.
#46, you´re correct about Obama--he is a gift to the world. /s He is well-known to have said that he knows more than anyone on his staff, that he´s good at being president, and that he´s the smartest person in the room. I hope he never meets the Pope, because he´s sure to try to instruct him on Catholicism, and I don´t know if there are enough lightning rods on St. Peter´s to handle it.
What about blacks who do everything they can to keep whites out of their groups? When I was in college, none of the black cliques would let white people in. Many insisted on keeping segreggated. I am colorblind to race, but I found that groups of 3 or more blacks at a table often treated me like I was beneath them. It doesn´t happen everywhere, but how can he judge some groups yet act like others (protected groups) don´t do the same or worse??
The Republican leading the fight to defund President Obama´s healthcare law called Democrats “absolutist” on Sunday for refusing to budge as a government shutdown looms. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) told NBC´s "Meet the Press" that Senate Democrats have offered “zero” compromise and will be the ones responsible if the government shuts down Tuesday. The Republican-led House approved early Sunday a government spending bill that delays the healthcare law for a year, which Senate Democrats say is a non-starter. “It is the Democrats who have taken an absolutist position,” Cruz said. “I´d like to repeal every word of the law. But
People attending a House Rules Committee hearing on Saturday evening burst into laughter when Rep. Jim McGovern (D.-Mass.) affirmed to House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R.-Ky.) that President Barack Obama, by threatening to veto a continuing resolution to fund the government past Monday if it included a House amendment to delay Obamacare, had thus “drawn a red line” on the CR. The committee was meeting to approve the rule by which the House would consider the Senate-passed CR and amendments to it that would repeal a tax on medical devices and delay Obamacare for one year. Rep. Louise Slaughter (D.-N.Y.),
It felt like just another busy day on Capitol Hill on Saturday, despite the rare weekend session. House leaders, members and staff were all on hand, ready to vote on legislation to potentially avert a government shutdown on Sept. 30. There was one key player missing: Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. The Democratic leadership press shop kept reporters’ inboxes well-stocked throughout Saturday, slamming Republicans for their new plan to delay implementation of Obamacare and dismantle the medical device tax as part of a short-term continuing resolution. (Snip) The California Democrat, however, was otherwise engaged, celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary with her
STEPHANOPOULOS (voice-over): Good morning and welcome to "This Week." Breaking overnight, shutdown showdown. The House takes a hard line on Obamacare, all but assuring a government shutdown just one day from now. This morning, all the breaking details and what it means for you. President Clinton weighs in. CLINTON: There are times when you have to call people´s bluffs. STEPHANOPOULOS: Plus, Paul Krugman and Bill Kristol join the debate on our powerhouse roundtable. And a bombshell breakthrough. DIANE SAWYER, ABC NEWS: Today President Obama surprised everyone. STEPHANOPOULOS: The president´s historic phone call with Iran´s new leader. BARACK OBAMA, PRESIDENT OF THE
The conflict in Syria is destroying not only the lives of the Syrian people but their heritage — the world´s heritage — as well. Syria is a treasure house of history. Damascus, Aleppo, Palmyra and almost 10,000 other archaeological sites there hold the remains of thousands of years of culture. Greeks, Romans, Persians, Christians and Muslims lived and fought in what is now Syria. As the U.N. special envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, explained at a recent UNESCO meeting, "Few countries are as rich culturally, have had such a glorious past, are so important for what we are, all of
The average SAT scores for the high school class of 2013 remained stagnant from the previous year and fewer than half of the students who graduated were prepared for the rigors of college, officials said. Average SAT scores for high school seniors nationwide stayed steady in reading, math and writing, according to a report released last week by the College Board, the New York-based nonprofit that administers the SAT and Advanced Placement program. The combined average SAT score of 1498 was the same as last year; a perfect score on the three-section test is 2400. In California, the combined average
Never mind Rush Limbaugh’s warnings about misguided “low information voters.” CNN stumbled upon some best dubbed “zero information voters” – though one hopes they are never allowed near a ballot box. Finding confirmation for a Kaiser Family Foundation poll which found 43 percent of those without health insurance “still have no idea about the new exchanges,” one man speculated ObamaCare “has something to do with caring about people” and another demanded to know: “I’m just wondering, as a citizen of America, how come I did not hear of this?” In a story narrated by Zain Asher, which ran on Friday’s
Relatives of a Sandy Hook shooting victim have spoken out for the first time about opposing gun control saying they feel lumped together with other families from the tragedy in favor of new laws. Though Rachel D´Avino, a teacher at the Newtown elementary school, was shot to death by a crazed gunman, her family still owns firearms - including an assault-style rifle - and is against any measures to control their purchase, according to her sister Hannah. For the first time the D´Avinos said they wanted to outline their point of view - feeling that in the past they were
It´s my understanding that Hokm is the most popular game in Iran. Among other things the Hokm (commander or leader) of each hand gets dealt the first card and has the privilege of deciding which suit will be the trump cards. While it looks like the English word "hokum", something untrue, false, designed to elicit a certain response from the viewer, it is pronounced otherwise. Still it rather well describes the diplomatic and domestic game being played by Rouhani and Obama: Persian-American applesauce in which Obama is giving Iran the right to call the trump card and make the first
When ex-gang member Robert White addressed about 20 people Saturday at a Far South Side church, he spoke animatedly about his days as a Black P Stone and how he turned his life around after spending a chunk of it in prison. But to White´s chagrin, the audience comprised mostly grieving relatives of Chicago´s homicide victims and representatives from anti-violence groups — not the troubled youths he mentors. (Snip)"How you addressing a gang summit and no gang members are here?" Billed as a "National Unity Summit" for gang members from across the city, hardly any showed up to Saturday´s event,
If you thought the left-wing Politico´s Friday lead piece taunting the GOP to shut down the government was a knee-slapper, you should read what is leading today: "Can the media avoid rush judgment on Obamacare?" Essentially what you have here is an outlet that likes to present itself as objective, begging its media colleagues not to report on any problems the American people might have with Tuesday´s ObamaCare launch. This, despite the fact that the White House has already admitted there will be "glitches." Again, because Politico is always trying to fool people into believing it is an objective news
The Sikh community has pressured Walmart into pulling a turban-themed costume from its website calling it ‘insulting’ and tells the retailer to use more ´common sense´ in future. The Sikh Coalition said in a letter on Friday that the costume is offensive to 9/11 victims and will cause ‘negative stereotypes about turbans and beards that have led to violence and discrimination against Sikhs and other minorities’. The Sikh Coalition offered an image of the original costume and the al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden, as part of their letter. The group also sent letters to retailers such as Amazon.com, which listed the costume
President Obama lied to us. It wasn’t a white lie. It wasn’t a fib. It wasn’t a half truth. It was a bold-faced lie. “No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise,” President Obama told the American Medical Association in 2009. “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.” That statement turned out to be a lie. Period. On Thursday I asked my Facebook community if they
Earlier this week, in an effort led by Sen. Ted Cruz, some of my Republican colleagues and I took to the Senate floor with the intent of making Washington listen. The American people have made it abundantly clear that they do not want Obamacare. In fact, a majority of elected officials, the same officials that voted to implement this health care mandate, do not want it, either. Last summer, in a 5-4 decision authored by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., the Supreme Court wrongly concluded that Obamacare’s individual mandate could stand. As a consequence of the court’s ruling, starting
Sen. Lindsey Graham may face a tea party challenge back home, but he’s not shying away from blasting the strategy of fellow GOP Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah — and he had some choice words for any Republican or Democrat who causes a government shutdown. “If the government shuts down, it’s not what you think it would be. I have actually experienced that,” Graham said. “If anybody creates a process where our military doesn’t get paid, and their families, they’re going to make an enemy … of me for life.”
Barilla Pasta stepped on a landmine this week telling Italian media the company would never feature or market directly to gay couples. If they had a problem with that, said its chairman, they could eat another brand of pasta. I pity the fool who messes with the purchasing power of the LGBT community. The remarks as widely reported, were made by Guido Barilla on La Zanzara, an Italian radio program. I would never make a spot with a homosexual family. Not out of a lack of respect but because I do not see it like they do. (My idea of)
NEW YORK- U.S. and international gay rights supporters called on Friday for a boycott of Italian pasta maker Barilla, whose chairman said he would never feature a gay family in its advertising. The comments sparked a firestorm of protest on social media and resulted in online petitions in English, German and Italian, including one by Italian playwright and Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo. A MoveOn.org petition started by Beth Allen, a Takoma Park, Maryland, mother of two and a lesbian, garnered 85,000 signatures by Friday evening. (Petition: http://r.reuters.com/paz43v) "Guido Barilla made it clear how he felt about families like mine
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday brought home a 2,700-year-old Persian artifact the US administration gave him as “a special gift" to Iranians, media reports said. “The Americans contacted us on Thursday and said ´we have a gift for you´,” Rouhani told reporters upon arrival at the airport in Tehran, the ILNA news agency reported. “They gave it back as a special gift to the Iranian nation.” Rouhani was speaking of a 7th century BC silver Persian drinking cup in the shape of a winged Griffin, a legendary creature with the head of an eagle and body of a lion.
Mitt Romney on Friday said the Republican threat to shut down the government in an attempt to defund ObamaCare isn’t an “effective” strategy. "We´re more effective tactically not to use a shutdown of some kind to pursue the ... anti-Obamacare objective,” Romney said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. “I don´t think that will be as effective.” (Snip) "I think there´s a better way of getting rid of ObamaCare — my own view — and that is, one, delaying it by at least a year,” Romney said. “That was Senator (Joe) Manchin´s idea, the Democrats´ idea.”
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had finished his last meetings in New York Friday and was in a car headed to the airport when President Barack Obama called. (Snip) The Iranian press office added: "The Iranian and U.S. presidents underlined the need for a political will for expediting resolution of West´s standoff with Iran over the latter´s nuclear program. President Rouhani and President Obama stressed the necessity for mutual cooperation on different regional issues." For his part, Rouhani took to Twitter to reveal what the two leaders discussed.
Most Americans don´t know that ObamaCare´s new insurance marketplaces are set to open next week, according to a new poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation. In Kaiser´s latest tracking poll, 64 percent of respondents didn´t know when the law´s new insurance marketplaces open. Fifteen percent knew the correct date, Oct. 1, while another 20 percent chose specific but incorrect dates. (Snip) The poll found even less awareness of the new marketplaces among the uninsured Americans who stand to benefit most from the healthcare law. Among uninsured respondents, 74 percent did not know when the exchanges launch, compared with 12 percent
In Western news-making and opinion-forming circles, there’s a palpable reluctance to talk about the most noteworthy thing about modern Islamist violence: its barbarism, its graphic lack of moral restraint.[Snip] Across the commentating board, people are sheepish about pointing out the historically unique lunacy of Islamist violence and its utter detachment from any recognisable moral universe or human values. We have to talk about this barbarism; we have to appreciate how new and unusual it is, how different it is even from the terrorism of the 1970s or of the early twentieth century. We owe it to the victims of these
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D., Calif.) claimed on Friday that the federal budget deficit has “been cut in half” under Obama. udget figures provided by the White House show that the deficit nearly tripled from 2008 to 2009, when Obama took office, and has remained above $1 trillion since then, though 2013 projections are slightly lower. The country has seen higher budget deficits during every year of Obama’s presidency than it did during any of his predecessor’s eight years in office. The White House provides the following deficit numbers: 2005: $318 billion 2006: $248 billion 2007: $161 billion 2008: $459 billion
The Republican Party is “begging for America to fail” by rooting for President Obama’s signature health care law to fail, former President Bill Clinton said during an interview for “This Week” with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, “I’ve never seen a time — can you remember a time in your lifetime when a major political party was just sitting around, begging for America to fail … I don’t know what’s going to happen. But I’ll be shocked if it fails,” Clinton, who attempted during his first term as president to overhaul the country’s healthcare system in the early 1990s, said during an
