Markey, Gomez square off in final US
Senate debate

(Boston)—Republican Gabriel Gomez and Democrat Edward Markey face off in their final debate in Massachusetts´ special U.S. Senate election. The candidates are sparring in an hour long debate Tuesday night at the studios of WGBH-TV. The debate is sponsored by a consortium of Boston media outlets. The matchup comes as Gomez struggles to close a gap with Markey, who has held a modest lead in recent polls. Gomez has portrayed Markey as an entrenched Washington insider, while Markey said Gomez is beholden to the national Republican agenda.

Comments:
The MA Republican RINO is debating a 38 year Dem member of Congress for the Senate. Voting is next week.

It will be hard to vote for this almost be Democrat

Actually OP, not really.

Markey is a Communist, who hates his country.
Gomez is a Capitalist, who loves his country.

Pretty simple choice.

The usual trashing of fine candidates on our side by some on the right continues.
I do not understand these people.
We have a chance to take a Senate seat , although it will still make Republicans
9 seats behind in the Senate.
Gomez is a graduate of Annapolis, a Navy carrier pilot , a former SEAL and a businessman.
Because he´s not Todd Akin or Sarah Palin
or Christine O´Donnell ,
he´s inexplicably deemed a bum and RINO.
Right...there´s no difference between Markey and Gomez.

Gomez needs some breaks. He´s better than any Democrat.

Hillary Clinton shouldn´t

WASHINGTON — As the Republican field for 2016 stands today, Hillary Clinton doesn’t have much to worry about. In fact, for all the talk about Benghazi and Obamacare, she has a lot to be happy about. The drum-beating of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference — the GOP’s pre-presidential coming-out party — gave us a glimpse of the Republican future. And for the GOP, the future is bleak. Sen. Rand Paul officially won CPAC’s presidential straw poll. His message of libertarianism plays well with the small government crowd. But it is hard to see how he makes the sale in

SEVASTOPOL, Crimea – After blocking Ukrainian military bases in Crimea on Sunday, Russia issued ultimatums to the Ukrainian army and two ships on Monday to surrender or face a “military storm.” “If they (Ukrainian troops) do not give up by 5 a.m. tomorrow (March 4), there will be a real storm of subdivisions and units of Ukraine´s military forces all over Crimea,” Russian Black Sea Fleet Commander Aleksandr Vitko was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying. Russia’s Foreign Ministry denied information about ultimatums as “utter nonsense.” The Ukrainian defense and foreign ministries insisted that ultimatums were, in fact, real,

Military groups and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are vowing to fight proposed cuts to the Pentagon budget set to be unveiled next week that could increase the cost of living for American troops, veterans and their families. The military spending plan outlined by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Monday calls for smaller pay rises and controversial reductions in housing allowances, health benefits and other subsidies for service members and retirees. "We know the Defense Department must make difficult budget decisions, but these cuts would hit service members, making it harder for them and their families to make ends meet,”

Naftogaz warns 11 oblasts of gas

(Ukraine) Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state-owned oil and gas monopoly, has threatened 11 oblasts with gas supply cuts for falling drastically behind on their bills totaling some $3 billion, which, coincidentally, is the rough equivalent of what Russia’s Gazprom said Ukraine owed it. Naftogaz said on Feb. 13 it will imminently reduce gas deliveries to a “technical minimum.” Company spokesperson Olena Yurieva said that means enough will be given for pipes to not freeze. Energy experts disagreed on how much room temperatures will drop as a result. Oleksandr Todiychuk, head of international energy club Q-club, told Kommersant that temperatures could drop to

(Kyiv, Ukraine) Open warfare broke out on the streets of Kyiv today, with at least 22 persons reportedly killed and more than 1,000 people injured. It was a day of non-stop bloodletting, smoke, fire and screeching ambulances. The death toll was likely to rise as police went on the offensive after sundown, advancing on thousands of protesters on Independence Square at 8 p.m. with gunshots, a water cannon and an armored personnel carrier. Tents housing protesters were burning on the main square, a fire fueled by protesters with tires as a defense against police attacks.

(Israel) The Australian Woodside Petroleum company signed a $2.5 billion deal to enter the Leviathan gas field in offshore Israel. The owners of Leviathan were in Australia this week to try to finalize a year-old non-binding deal, worth up to $2.3 billion, The Australian daily reported. Woodside will pay more than it had originally offered to enter the gas field because its owners want to pipe much of the gas to Turkey and other regional countries. Pipeline exports to Turkey require less development spending, which would increase the value of the gasfield.

Prospective foster parents with rap sheets listing criminal convictions for armed assault, drug trafficking, motor vehicle homicide and even soliciting sex from a minor could be cleared to take at-risk children into their homes under a standing policy at the state’s embattled child welfare agency. The stunning rules, tucked inside the Department of Children and Families’ handbook on criminal record checks and updated six years ago, allow foster parents with checkered pasts to take charge of endangered kids in the agency’s care. Among the crimes DCF policy might forgive would-be foster parents after screening their applications: • Offenses such as inducing sex from

JUNEAU, ALASKA — State regulations take effect next month further defining what constitutes a "medically necessary" abortion for purposes of receiving Medicaid funding. Notice was sent to the state health department Tuesday that the regulations had been filed by Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell last week. The new rules, blasted by critics as unconstitutional and an unnecessary government intrusion, are scheduled to take effect Feb. 2. The new certificate to request Medicaid funds features two boxes. Under the first, a provider would have to certify the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest or the abortion was performed to save

The 2012 Republican presidential nominee has invited his debate prep advisers and senior campaign aides to his mountaintop chalet in Park City, Utah, for a weekend of skiing later this month, according to two people close to Romney. The reunion of Romney´s political brain trust comes amid a burst of positive buzz about the former Massachusetts governor -- from favorable reviews of "MITT," the Netflix documentary about his campaigns, to chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.—Rand Paul handily won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday, one gauge of the Republican base’s mood less than two years before the 2016 primary season kicks off. The Kentucky senator received 31 percent, far ahead of second place Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who received 11 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson finished third with 9 percent, ahead of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who received 8 percent. The announcement came at the end of the group’s annual three-day confab. Organizers said that 2,459 attendees voted on computer kiosks.

The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth. So the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet well into its flight Saturday morning over the South China Sea has led aviation experts to assume that whatever happened was quick and left the pilots no time to place a distress call. (Snip) The problem had to be big enough, he said, to stop the plane´s transponder from broadcasting its location, although the transponder can be purposely shut off from the cockpit.
