South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham told David Gregory on Meet the Press Sunday morning that any talk of GOP candidates for the 2016 presidential race was moot if the party didn’t improve its electoral chances by passing the Gang of Eight’s overhaul of the immigration system. “If we don’t pass immigration reform,” Graham said, “if we don’t get it off the table in a reasonable, practical way, it doesn’t matter who you run in 2016. We’re in a demographic death spiral as a party, and the only way to get back in the good graces with the Hispanic community,
Comments: Uh no you idiot, the GOP is in a death spiral because there are too many moron RINO´s like you leading the party. I´m sick of seeing him and McCain at the microphone every day.
Ms Coulter has published statistics saying the Hispanic vote in the last election wasn´t that significant in the republican loss. I think there are a whole bunch of Hispanic voters who don´t want to provide amnesty to all the illegals.
I suggest that this fool look at the numbers regarding the % of the hispanic vote Republicans have received, going back to Reagan. Hispanics vote for democrats because they are the party of "free stuff". Graham wants to drive the stake into the heart of Republicans. He is a fool of the first order.
If they are challenging for a Third Party, this new Immigration/Amnesty bill is sure the way to get there. I think this will backfire on the Democrats and Republicans. Its Party switching time and long overdue. There are a lot of fiscal conservative Democrats out there that cannot bring themselves to vote for a Republican or be associated with them and a new party is just the thing for them to join the Patriotic, fiscal conservative Republicans in a new dance.
While I do agree that the GOP is in very big trouble, even worse trouble is in store for the Dems, due to the fact that they have been aborting their own voters since the 1970´s and are in real danger of becoming a minority party. Any immigration bills they propose are just their attempts to ´refill the tank´ when it comes to voters for their party.
A week or two ago there was a small swearing in ceremony at Aztec Ruins National Monument in NW New Mexico for a handful of Hispanics that pursued citizenship the LAWFUL WAY. What is wrong with the system we already have on the books and enforcing the law. I´m sure that those new citizens that were sworn in after all the time and work they put in to become citizens would be very happy to see just anyone that wanted to come over become a citizen. I think not.
I don´t think Hispanics are as easy to fool or buy as other voting blocs/minorities. Comparatively they are quite entrepreneurial, even when it comes to the drug business. I think the assumption they will automatically vote democratic is questionable. Miss lindsey is not doing her party any favors making stupid statements like this.
About the only course left is to simply let the Democrats have the country until all the current Republicans retire. Then maybe we can start fresh or maybe not. Continuing down the current path leads to the same place but without the RINO´s out of the game.
Love walking on the streets of Charleston, SC in the residential district south of Broad Street. After noon breezes make walking along the seawall a must do. Charleston is the last of the Old South ...
In the short-term, after facilitating the liberal Democrat designed amnesty and path to citizenship bill, the percentage of the Hispanic or Latino vote going to Republicans may well go up a few points but not enough to make any real difference in national elections. The total vote will probably be a wash, as by facilitating that liberal Democrat bill, the Republicans will have enraged a good portion of their conservative voter base to the point that they will stop voting for the Republicans out right, or mount all sorts of primary challenges against establishment Republicans running for re-election.
In ten years the amnesty and path to citizenship bill is designed to either legalize or allow into the USA about 32-33 million aliens, most who will be poor and uneducated. Liberal Democrat aligned ethnic and immigrant advocacy groups would then be funded through that bill to essentially chaperone that massive foreign population group through a Democrat designed path to citizenship, leading to the vast majority registering as new mostly socialist oriented Democrat voters. After that the Republicans will be swamped out of being able to win any future national elections by those tens of millions of new foreign born Democrat voters. The result will be essentially a one party liberal Democrat run federal government on into the future.
I believe the technical term for what Senator Graham advises is "pandering." It is a time-tested and effective political practice. It works. The problem in this case is that there is no way Republicans can out-pander Democrats or even catch up with them when it comes to identity politics and cultural Marxism. Anything we can pander, they, the Leftists, can pander bigger and better. Lindsey Graham is incredibly naive if he thinks pandering to Hispanics is going to win or retain their votes. All it will do is lose Republicans votes from their own base. It might be suggested that pandering, like charity, should begin at home. The Republican Establishment is prepared to pander to everyone and everything but its own core supporters. This is a process of political metamorphosis whose logical end result is the transformation of the Republican party itself into a branch of the Democratic party.
Crude pandering and abandoning one´s values is no way to run a genuinely Republican party. If we are indeed fated to become extinct we can at least strive for death with dignity, i.e. by holding fast to what we believe to be true and right.
The Hispanics I know admit most of the illegals WILL go along and vote Democrat. He said Mexicans culturally LIKE government and with new numbers showing a 53% unwed birth rate, their families LIKE government programs.
For the last few weeks, the media has been having a quiet debate about whether or not to take a stand against using official White House photos in protest against being shut out of many White House events. On Monday, MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd took things a step further, calling the limited press access “a version of propaganda.” Todd qualified that statement to make it clear he’s not saying this is out-and-out, overt propaganda, but argued it does come across to people as such when outside photographers aren’t allowed access. AP photojournalist Charlie Dharapak agreed, adding that it’s a “visual press
Many of the city’s major clothing stores tried to defuse the “shop and frisk” scandal on Monday by agreeing to an anti-profiling policy demanded by civil-rights activists led by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Barneys, Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and the Gap are among the retailers that promised to post and abide by a “Customers’ Bill of Rights” in the wake of allegations that some black shoppers were targeted for questioning by cops after purchasing pricey items. The move followed a sluggish start to the Christmas shopping season, which is unusually short this year due to late date
George Will wryly notes that our young president is benefiting from his lengthy spell of on-the-job training. Too bad the nation has to suffer through it. “The education of this president is a protracted and often amusing process . . . as he continues to alight upon the obvious with a sense of profound and original discovery,” Will said. “The president is saying, ‘the trouble with big government is it’s so darn big.’ And like a lot of other big organisms — dinosaurs spring to mind — it has a simple nervous system, it’s sclerotic, it’s governed by inertia, and
If you don´t already know by now, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms can´t even run a store without royally screwing up. Nearly one year ago, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on an ATF sting gone bad when the bureau tried to catch bad guys by setting up a store. The sting ended in a damaged rent space, $35,000 in stolen goods and with a fully automatic machine gun lost on the city streets. Now it appears ATF failed during another store front sting and is punishing teenagers they convinced to help them by throwing them in jail. We´re talking
There are going to be some epic data theft and hacking stories to come from the sad history of ObamaCare. They’re probably already happening. There has been a repeated history of both state and federal authorities concealing security breaches until forced to discuss them by freedom-of-information requests. These authorities are keenly aware of what a few big hacking stories will do to a system that’s already far less popular than it needs to be, with a reputation for technological ineptitude among the young people it desperately needs to milk for cash. But the hackers will have to get in line
WASHINGTON – Democrats are breathing a sigh of relief over what effectively passes as a re-launching of the Obamacare website, with some lawmakers now expressing optimism that the healthcare reform law will fall to their political benefit. Democratic office-holders like Sen. Mary Landrieu, of Louisiana, expected to face a tough 2014 re-election campaign, are once again embracing the Affordable Care Act. But Republicans argue the Affordable Care Act remains problematic and unsalvageable for a long list of reasons that extend well beyond a website, citing concerns about issues ranging from security to individuals losing their insurance coverage. “The American people
Russian President and 2005 Super Bowl champion Vladimir Putin unexpectedly dissolved RIA Novosti, a state news agency, along with its radio affiliate on Monday, a move the agency itself said would “appear to point toward a tightening of state control in the already heavily regulated media sector.” The agencies will be combined into Rossiya Segodnya and headed by Dmitry Kiselyov, a Russian news anchor who recently provoked controversy over his on-air homophobic remarks, an appointment sure to heighten tensions over Russia’s anti-gay policies ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The New York Times reported that the decree caught even the
Americans who travel abroad are often afraid to discuss United States politics with foreign observers. This is not an entirely unfounded belief, but it is elevated beyond any appropriate proportion. Most American travelers overseas find the citizens of foreign nations who are well-versed in global affairs more curious about than resentful of American politics. One theme that America’s wayfarers will find is how surprised foreign citizens are by the fact that American political fights are so vicious, that national elections are regularly disputed, that millions of disaffected citizens routinely take to the streets to protest the government, and political violence is
Parents often try to motivate their children with rewards, from stickers to ice cream to toys. Thousands of books and websites offer suggestions for how to get kids to do homework or clean up their rooms. But is it a mayor’s job to motivate you to drink less soda? Is it government’s job to urge you to sign up for health care by way of schools stealthily sending messages home through your children? Should bureaucrats find ways to change your mind about which washing machine you buy? Whether you realize it or not, this so-called “nudging” of consumer choice, at the
MSNBC´s Melissa Harris-Perry said Sunday that "Obamacare," the nickname for President Obama´s healthcare legislation, was a “derogatory term... conceived of by a group of wealthy white men who needed a way to put themselves above and apart from a black man." Four questions for Harris-Perry, who was unavailable for an interview, according to an MSNBC spokesperson: 1. Was "Hillarycare" a derogatory term conceived of by wealthy white men who needed a way to put themselves above and apart from a woman? 2. Was "Reaganomics" a derogatory term conceived of by wealthy white men who needed a way to put themselves above and apart
The star of this video is Democratic Rep. Ann Kuster, representing New Hampshire’s 2nd District. A few things here… She doesn’t know what’s going on with the issue and looks like an idiot when addressing it (House Resolution 36). She ignorantly rudely hilariously laughably states that she is in her district to talk about the Middle East (to be clear Benghazi is very obviously considered part of the Middle East). Then the crowd is informed by what is presumably an aide of some sort that they are going to “stick to the format” …so no one even gets an actual answer. Is this who
President Obama argued at the weekend that it was unrealistic to envisage an agreement with Iran requiring a complete end to uranium enrichment. But Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu countered that turning up the pressure could deliver “a better deal,” describing the issue as “the paramount challenge of our generation.” Both leaders took part in the Brookings Institution’s annual Saban Forum – Obama on Saturday, Netanyahu by satellite link on Sunday – with Iran dominating both appearances. Technical experts from Iran, the U.S. and the other five powers involved in the negotiations are due to meet in Vienna from Monday to discuss
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
Although the jobless rate in November fell to its lowest level since he took office, President Obama called on Republican lawmakers Saturday to spend tens of billions on unemployment benefits that are set to expire this month. “It shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address. But he said the “economic lifeline” is in jeopardy. “All because Republicans in this Congress — which is on track to be the most unproductive in history — have so far refused to extend it” Mr. Obama said. If Congress doesn’t act before lawmakers leave on their holiday break, about
Many people could die as extreme weather becomes common. There will be more freak winds like the October storm, which killed four people. Heatwaves will be lethal and the sea level will rise, leaving coastal towns at risk of being swamped by storm surges. Sir Brian Heap, president of the European Academies Science Advisory Council, said he felt “obliged” to issue the warning after a new study by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It comes on the back of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, which has killed more than 5,000 people. Sir Brian said: “Given the tragic events this
Call me Grinch, call me Scrooge. Call me Lord Voldemort of the Yuletide. None could be worse than sending me a holiday card with glossy photographs of your lovely, smiling family. My wife, Emily, and I place your cards like trophies on our shelves, continuing an old-school practice that began about 175 years ago as a way of maintaining relationships as families and friends moved far and wide. Today’s cards may appear more personalized — with photos of spouses, kids and pets, and distribution lists much smaller than a sprawling collection of Facebook friends. But when I flip over the photo
