When President Obama makes his first extended trip to sub-Saharan Africa this month, the federal agencies charged with keeping him safe won’t be taking any chances. Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency. Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels
Comments: Our fighter jets will provide 24 hour coverage, in shifts, over his air space.
This article is very detailed. Including three sets of special vehicles (including ambulance and x-ray equipment carrier) at each of three locations because they will be short stays. No time to move one set around.
#4 beat me to it. Let the local countries provide security like they did for our consulates. Just make sure there are no bullets for their guns. And make sure the Muslim Brotherhood has approved of the travel plans so that they can order in the needed mortars. They can hire British companies to provide the unarmed security guards.
All of this excessive spending is to impress the natives. They will be told GOD is coming to visit. There will be drums and women with big butts dancing. There will be goats roasted over dung fires. Most importantly there will be billions tossed out like candy to corrupt leaders and the immigration floodgates will be opened to welfare paradise in America.
It costs what it costs for a president to travel and I don’t like seeing security arrangements published. The real issue with Obama’s Africa trip is that it is an unserious trip, something which is typical for him.
He’s bypassing Nigeria, a major US oil supplier, for a second time even though they are running point and spending blood and treasure fighting Al Qaeda in Mali. Rumor has it State sees their aggressiveness with Jihadists as heavy handed and State is also not pleased anti-homosexual legislation is moving through their legislative branch. Obama is not scheduled to attend the African Union meeting of heads of state in Addis, although word is they are scrambling to add that to the trip.
Interesting that there was no leak of the budget associated with or military assets positioned for the first trip of his second term to Israel, or his trip to Lough Erne, Northern Ireland, next week for the G8 Summit...
I just can´t read anything more about this poser. As people wrote there are still no tours of the White House. I do agree that he should get the same protection as the 4 brave men that were murdered in Benghazi.
A responsible president would postpone his vacation and start doing the job he is hired to do. I am concerned with the issue we have with arming al queda and importing a million of their refugees, we up our chances of being hit with a dirty bahm
obama wants to be a dictator and king. Maybe he is going there to campaign. Look at how he accomplished bringing the US to 3rd World status in just 5 years. Did the article really report Why the obamas are going to Africa? Vacation must be the answer.
This trip is a travesty. There is no lucid justification for it and the obscene expense under any rational theory of responsible government engaged in effective foreign relations activities. Obama is imperious, arrogant, and tone-deaf. How can you furlough government employees, reduce government services, caterwaul about the budget, and then spend $100,000,000.00 on a monumental boondoggle for God´s sake? You want to raise my taxes, so I can help pay for this huge waste!
"When times are tough, you tighten your belts. You don´t go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don´t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you´re trying to save for college. You make tough choices."
Barack Hussein Obama High School Speech North Nashua, N.H. February, 2010
And whatever became of America´s Blue Angel and Thunderbird Air Shows?
These people could care less what obscene amounts of taxpayer money they blow on entertainment for themselves and their toadies and they obviously enjoy making a spectacle of themselves. Best to become numb to the embarrassment of having them represent us to the world.
#27, I´m with you, security arrangements need to stay classified. That said, how much can someone get done in a few hours of meeting time? Obama is only in each country for a day, two at the most. What´s he going to do, wake up, eating breakfast, shake hands with the locals, then go sightseeing? On my dime?! I could be using that money to pay off my student loans. Hey, there´s a thought...
You know, there was a link on Drudge yesterday to a 600 page arrest docket and the headline read "Arrest him when he visits".
There is an active arrest warrant for Obama for war crimes, the moments he lands. Perhaps his security and all of the people is out of the fear that someone may actually try to act on it?
Just like he blatantly refused to adhere to a legal court subpoena, he is laughing in their faces and going to visit while he knows they have an active warrant for his arrest. He is daring them to try it.
I just heard he cancelled because of snipers. Ask Hill how that works. These people are on one perpetual party/vacation with no time for actual work on our money. I thank God my Daddy didn´t live to see this!
The biggest task will be to keep Obama from being arrested. I´ll bet mooch is kicking the furniture about having her safari nixed. But the real purpose of the trip will remain intact... tea and crumpets with Mandela. The rest of the itinerary is just so they can write off the trip.
As one of the resident skeptics, I must wonder why such major details are entrusted to the salavating WaPo.
A few weeks ago, someone here mentioned there´d be some make-up lovin´ going on between BHO and the press. He hardly needs a lot of protection since he is so beloved throughout the known world and the nearest planets, but here it is all in one place for those who really, really need to know.
Hahahahahahaha. This is a good one. Not terribly creative, since it is just a bigger version of others, but certainly over the top as far as in-your-face, poke-in-the-eye insults to the American people go. Third graders can´t tour the white house, but he can take elaborate road trips to irrelevant countries. His hatred for us is boundless.
"FTA" "When President Obama makes his first extended trip to sub-saharan Africa this month the federal agencies charged with keeping him safe will be taking no chances"...Well, given what I have seen of the CIA, FBI, and Secret Service recently via testimony on the hill, The Won should be vigilantly looking over his shoulder on this junket. Do you think he has a taste tester? Doobie tester?
Oh we stand amazed at the absolutely heroic stance of our beloved CIC as he confronts the forces of evil with his finger flying. Just think he is off to Africa with only his hundreds of security and 24 hour air cover to surround him with glory. Where will he place the bullet proof windows he needed for the Queen´s palace and every hotel he graces. It makes one wonder if he hides a sniper in every tree when he goes golfing.
I couldn´t finish the article because it made me sick. All the expense for this fraud and his brood. But, in the background all I could think about was how not one asset was used to help those guys in Benghazi and this creep who either slept or worse, as the Ambassador and the three other heroes were being murdered gets this kind of protection is sickening. Everyday I cannot believe this POS was re-elected and there is still another 3.5 years to go. And each day some other outrage comes out of this administration.
He does what he is told to do. The puppetmasters are the ones in charge. This phoney is just following orders and playing a role. All the while getting some expensive vacations off of the backs of the few hard working Americans who still have jobs. Nauseating. The underbelly of all of this is sickening. In the mean time, please drive the NSA crazy and type in words that get them all excited. Amerika has never been more frightening.
As the vast majority of AA recipients, regardless of gender, race, and orientation, when they are given advancements not based on merit or effort, they never learn how to perform, but rather to BS and pose.
This is a posing event to the 9th world and his core black base that he is a broutha.
BO, Michelle and 90% of his AA administration never earned their positions.
It is no different than trusting an AA educated and employed cario-surgeon with open-heart surgery.
And we have sub-par AA qualified people representing our nation during one of the most terrifying times since 9/11.
Afghanistan´s President Hamid Karzai has refused to sign a security deal with the United States, the White House said, and Washington may have to resort to the "zero option" of withdrawing all American troops from the strife-torn country next year, as it did in Iraq. Karzai told U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice in Kabul on Monday that the United States must put an immediate end to military raids on Afghan homes and demonstrate its commitment to peace talks before he would sign a bilateral security pact, Karzai´s spokesman said. The White House said Karzai had outlined new conditions in
HARTFORD, Conn. — A prosecutor is planning to release a report Monday on the investigation into the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, but the public will have to wait longer for the state police’s full accounting of the crime. The decision to continue withholding the bulk of the evidence is stirring new criticism of the secrecy that has surrounded the probe since a gunman killed 20 children and six educators inside the school on Dec. 14. While the gunman took his own life and authorities are not contemplating any prosecutions, the lead investigator, State’s Attorney Stephen Sedensky III, has gone
BEIJING-- The Chinese Defense Ministry on Saturday issued a map of an East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone that includes a chain of disputed islands also claimed by Japan, triggering a protest from Tokyo. The United States also expressed concern about China´s "unilateral action." Beijing also issued a set of rules for the zone, saying all aircraft must notify Chinese authorities and are subject to emergency military measures if they do not identify themselves or obey orders from Beijing. It said it would "identify, monitor, control and react" to any air threats or unidentified flying objects coming from the sea. The
Forget Ray Kelly, Bill de Blasio is getting his policing advice from the real experts — hardened criminals. A group of 50 ex-cons, junkies and chronic vagrants gathered at a Manhattan “Think Tank” Thursday to describe what they thought the NYPD should be doing to make their lives easier. The felonious forum outlined a clear “get-soft-on-crime” vision. “I like the idea of ending stop and frisk. That was the first thing that was totally there for me,” opined Mikell Green-Grand, a 49-year-old former jailbird who has convictions for grand larceny and identity theft.
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the Saudi royal who seems to own most everything there is to own -- a chunk of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, a piece of Twitter, all of Paris’s George V Hotel, the Savoy in London, and a Boeing 747 for his personal use -- was sitting in the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago the other evening (he and Bill Gates own most of Four Seasons Holdings), offering up the view -- the view of an experienced negotiator from the Middle East -- that U.S. President Barack Obama is outmatched by the Islamic Republic
WARSAW, Poland -- Avoiding a last-minute breakdown, annual U.N. climate talks limped forward Saturday with a modest set of decisions meant to pave the way for a new pact to fight global warming. More than 190 countries agreed in Warsaw to start preparing "contributions" for the new deal, which is supposed to be adopted in 2015. That term was adopted after China and India objected to the word "commitments" in a standoff with the U.S. and other developed countries.
Philip D. Chism allegedly became upset at Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer when she started talking about Tennessee, the state the teenager had recently moved away from after his parents’ “stressful’’ divorce there, according to a police affidavit unsealed today. Chism, 14, also allegedly left behind a note after raping and murdering Ritzer, a popular math teacher at the North Shore school, last month. “I hate you all,’’ said the handwritten, folded note, which was found near Ritzer’s body in the woods near the school, according to the affidavit.
SALEM, Mass. (AP) — A 14-year-old Massachusetts boy used an object to sexually assault his popular high school algebra teacher before killing and robbing her, according to an indictment issued Thursday. Philip Chism has been held without bail since shortly after the Oct. 22 slaying of 24-year-old Colleen Ritzer, whose body was found behind Danvers High School after she never returned home from school. "The indictments returned today detail horrific and unspeakable acts," Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said.
A group of state insurance commissioners emerged from a meeting with President Obama and other federal officials on Wednesday saying that state regulators would continue to decide on their own whether to go along with his recent proposal to let consumers keep older insurance plans for an extra year, even if the plans did not comply with regulations under the new health care law. In a conference call with reporters and in a statement issued after the meeting, they said they told the president they would not reach any consensus on what states should do. They said they warned the
HOT SPRINGS, Va. – As police studied evidence into what led to the attack on state Sen. Creigh Deeds, a Virginia health official said his office opened an investigation into why the legislator´s son was reportedly released from emergency custody the day before he stabbed his father and killed himself. The son, Gus Deeds, was a talented musician known for his stories and his smarts and as someone who could carry on conversations on wide range of topics. But his mental health apparently came into question the day before the Tuesday´s attack at the family´s farm in western Virginia.
Barack Obama continued to lionize John F. Kennedy on Wednesday evening at a dinner where the President gave a speech introduced by JFK´s grandson. Jack Schlossberg, whose mother is Caroline Kennedy, introduced President Obama at the Smithsonian´s National Museum of American History where a dinner was held to honor recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, first minted by JFK. ´He reminded us that everyone has the capacity to explore, to imagine and to give back to our great nation no matter the path we choose,´ Mr Schlossberg said of his grandfather.(Snip)There has been increasing interest in Mr Shlossberg, who
With 78 days until the start of the Sochi Olympics, Lindsey Vonn´s next race is against the clock. After suffering a partial tear to the ACL in her surgically repaired right knee will she be healthy enough to compete in her fourth Olympics? The injury came during training on Tuesday, nine months after tearing the ACL and MCL in her right knee and fracturing her tibia in a brutal crash in Austria.(Snip)Of course, no one knows if Vonn can come back just yet, but if her own history is any guide, the best rehab is about five months off the
Though the Obama administration said that individuals making under $45,960 would get Obamacare subsidies, low-income young people in most of America´s big cities who relied on that promise are discovering they will be ineligible for them. According to a CNN report, though young people are now required to purchase insurance under Obamacare or pay a fine, "many low-income younger Americans won´t get any subsidy at all" because, as the Obama administration claims, the "cost of insurance is lower than the government initially expected." In April, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius "told a
JERUSALEM -- Israel´s prime minister has criticized the international community´s nuclear deal with Iran as a "historic mistake." Speaking to his Cabinet, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel is not bound by the deal and reserves the right to defend itself. That is a reference to possible military action against Iran. Israel believes Iran is trying to develop a nuclear weapon, although Tehran denies that. Netanyahu said the deal would not adequately stop Iran, while also giving it relief from sanctions. "Today the world became a much more dangerous place because the most dangerous regime in the world
The sounds of Christmas in the Obama White House mean James Taylor, Mariah Carey and Nat King Cole. “The kids tease me that they know it’s Christmas when I pull out my playlist,” First Lady Michelle Obama tells Ladies’ Home Journal. The holiday tunes are accompanied by hot chocolate and a fire in the Yellow Oval room as President Obama and his family decorate their tree. “Christmas has always been a special time in my household,” Michelle Obama says in the December/January issue. “Growing up, we lived in a little-bitty apartment, but my mom put her heart and soul into decorating that house.”
“For the first time in nearly a decade we have halted parts of Iran’s nuclear program” announced a jubilant Barack Obama after the news of the just-signed Geneva six-month interim agreement with Iran. But the American goal for the accord was that the Iranians not “advance their program” of building a uranium nuclear bomb (and perhaps a plutonium bomb too); the apparent deal exactly permits such advancement, plus sanctions relief to Tehran worth about $9 billion. This wretched deal offers one of those rare occasions when comparison with Neville Chamberlain in Munich in 1938 is valid. An overeager Western government, blind to
Bankrupt and hemorrhaging population, the city of Detroit is banking on greener pastures to lead its rebirth. A private company is snapping up 150 acres on the Motor City´s East End -- property where more than 1,000 homes once formed a gritty neighborhood -- and turning it into what is being billed as the world´s largest urban farm. Hantz Woodlands plans to start by planting trees, but hopes to raise crops and even livestock in the future, right in the midst of the once-proud city. “We are interested with moving into different types of agriculture,” Mike Score, president of Hantz,
Normally, I don´t traffic much in gossip, but the case of Valerie Jarrett is different. She may well be the most powerful woman in America, and almost certainly is the most powerful member of the Obama administration. The adjective "shadowy" definitely applies to this woman who enjoys her power through her relationship to the President, having never been confirmed by Senate hearings. Her title as "Senior Adviser" to the President barely scratches the surface of her real power. President Obama has time for his 150+ rounds of golf, his extensive television watching, and his expertise on March Madness bracketology because ValJar,
Noel Ignatiev, a professor at Massachusetts College of Art, has for years advocated the total elimination of Caucasians. During his final lecture before retirement last Monday, he told his white male students "you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease." NOEL IGNATIEV: If you are a white male, you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world! They only murder, exploit and oppress non-whites! At least a white woman can have sex with a black man and make a brown baby but what can a
The Obamacare rollout remains a debacle, but now enough time has passed that smart people are beginning to dissect what went wrong. So far, the best take I´ve seen comes from Internet pioneer Clay Shirky, who notes that the politicians weren´t listening to the people doing the actual work. I was talking about this to my Administrative Law class not long ago. I had told them that there are few real secrets in D.C. because everyone sleeps with everyone else. A student then asked why both the administration and the GOP seemed to have been blindsided by the Obamacare website problems. "I guess nobody was sleeping with the techies,"
Appearing on Arsenio Hall’s talk show over the weekend, ?Jesse Jackson defended both President Obama, who he said has faced heretofore unseen advsersity as president, as well as Jackson’s embattled son, who he said “had the best voting record in the Congress” before he was sentenced by unfair laws. On the president, Jackson praised him for “serving us well against the most hostility an American president has ever had” and “more attempts to derail his legislation then in the history of the country.” Between job creation and his efforts in Iraq, President Obama has “maintained a kind of dignity” without stooping
America has long had two embassies in Italy: One for the country, the other for the Holy See. Barbie Latza Nadeau on why soon there will be only one. Citing security concerns without naming a specific threat, the U.S. State Department is planning to shutter its embassy to the Holy See inside the lush Villa Domiziana overlooking the Circus Maximus and Palatine Hill in central Rome. The embassy, which has been in operation since 1984 when Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II signed an accord, will essentially be swallowed up by the larger, more influential U.S. embassy to Italy.
Located just 50 miles off the U.S. coast, north of New York City, sits Petra, a heart-shaped island that now belongs to Brad Pitt, after Angelina reportedly shelled out £12.2million to buy it for his 50th birthday. Pitt is apparently an architect fanatic, so when Jolie discovered that the island´s only two homes were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, she was sold. Pitt once said,“When I discovered Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright, it changed my life.” A source revealed that “as soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed.
"I cannot tell a lie." That´s the signature line from a classic American story. When the nation´s first president was asked as a boy if he had chopped down his father´s cherry tree, he didn´t say "I can neither confirm nor deny those reports," or "it depends on what the meaning of the word ´is´ is." George Washington told the truth even if it got him in trouble. The moral of the story -- Washington was a great leader because he would not lie, and all presidents should be as honest as our founding father. Well, guess what? That story about
