If You Don´t Allow Government

Will Terrorists Win?

National Journal, by Ron Fournier

Would you let the government install a camera in your home? The question was posed to me by Mike Cregan, a reader from Santa Barbara, Calif., who owns a foreign trade business. He writes: "When people say, `Well, they don´t get into the calls, etc. unless they have a court order,´ they miss the larger point." Cregan then offers an analogy that cuts through public ambivalence about the National Security Agency´s massive spying dragnet. "It is like the government saying, `We are going to put a camera in everyone´s home.

In the past few days, more than one expert has mentioned that the webcam on your computer can be remotely turned on, without your knowledge, and without the indicator light being on.

This is possible, because a school district was caught doing just that to students with school-issued laptops

Think about that. Then cover up your webcam, or unplug it.

The juvenile fascination with seeing yourself on your own computer and imaging millions of people all over the world also seeing you is contributing to the downfall of any and all privacy laws in this country.

And apparently that’s just fine with 63% of the people surveyed!

There is already a camera in your home. You are looking into it right now. On a laptop, the lens is right above your computer screen. Not on, you say? How do you know?

Noticed a piece of packing tape at the top of my friend´s work laptop.

Covering the camera from spying eyes.

Pennsylvania school was spying on the students thru their school issued laptops.

If the NSA, CIA, FBI won´t listen to the Russian warnings about the Boston bombers, why should we think they´ll stop anything by tracking our phone calls?
Security is a catch-all for full government monitoring.

As much as you may loathe tax season, there are people who rejoice during this time of year. They see it as prime time for picking people to victimize. Unscrupulous folks know taxpayers are eager to get a large refund. They love the complexity of the tax code, which provides them the opportunity to trick people into letting down their guard. Every year, the Internal Revenue Service highlights the lowdown and dirty by putting out its list of top 12 tax scams. “Scams can be sophisticated and take many different forms,” said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. “We urge people to protect themselves

Julian Bond was succinct: “Obama is to the Tea Party as the moon is to werewolves.” So bayed the ex-NAACP chairman about the Tea Party a while back. The Sarasota Herald Tribune began its reporting on Bond’s speech this way: Civil rights icon Julian Bond lashed out at Republicans and the Tea Party movement during a speech here Sunday night, comparing them to the southern Confederacy and declaring both a threat to the gains made by blacks since the 1960s. It might be said more accurately that the Tea Party, just as was once true of Ronald Reagan, is to the Left

Last December, Target announced up to 40 million credit cards and debit accounts may have been stolen in a sophisticated cyber theft intrusion of the corporate computer system; since then, other retailers have reported break-ins with similar hallmarks. Could this be the work of organized criminals? “There is certainly a real element of sophistication here,” said Michael Sutton, a cyber security expert with Zscaler who´s monitoring the Target case. “There would have needed to be some reconnaissance up front to understand the network that was being targeted, the hardware and software that they were going after.
