As the IRS scandal continues to take shape and the massive overreach of one of the most powerful agencies in Big Government becomes even more apparent, it becomes frightening to think this same agency will soon be heavily involved in your personal healthcare situation. Remember folks, as the United States Supreme Court said nearly a year ago, Obamacare is a tax and thus falls under the jurisdiction of the IRS. (Snip) Georgia Congressman Tom Price has introduced the Keep The IRS Off Your Health Care Act of 2013 (H.R. 2009). The recently introduced legislation already has
Comments: I may be the only LDotter who believes that Chief Justice Roberts made the right call on 0bamaCare. Congress was both foolhardy to believe the false promises [outright lies] that 0bama made and derelict in NOT reading the bill before they passed it. To believe that one vote alone from what is suppose to be a "non-partisan" Supreme Court judge is responsible for their mistake is ludicrous. However, we are finally seeing our elected officials stepping up to use their power to attempt to stop these illegal power grabs by the 0bamaNation.
Thanks for the reminder, #1. Though most of us here remember that super important piece of info, there may be some here who have forgotten or never knew. As the whole fiasco gets worse and worse, we need to keep shouting it from the rooftops - not one single Republican voted for the Obamanation health care bill.
Obamacare is an abomination and it is coming to light just how expensive, unwieldy and intrusive it will be. Chief Justice Roberts called it a tax when Obama´s lawyers were arguing it was NOT a tax. I have to wonder if he ever has second thoughts about his decision because he certainly has opened Pandora´s box. "His court" is going to have a humdinger of a legacy. Our government has failed us every step of the way.
I got a better idea. Getting Jug Ears out of the WH (you, too, Bite Me),then get Obamacare out of the IRS,then get the IRS out of Washington, then get the dims out of Congress who forced this lousy farce down our throats in the first place.
If the IRS can´t be done away with altogether then at a minimum take away their guns, right to seizure, their tax court, their you are guilty unless you prove us wrong and we determine that and all their enforcement procedures. Make them more like Postal employees. If not the IRS will continue to be used as sledge hammer against "we the people" who want fewer taxes, regulations and a smaller government. The IRS is corrupt beyond repair.

Yes, not ONE Republican voted for this Frankenstein. And yet mulatto son calls it a bi-partisan effort. A lie...from THIS administration..GASP!! When passed a good many of us here on Ms Luci´s commented that after SC ruling it is a TAX the bill must have originated in HR not Senate. Even following the rules of our Constitution, the dims must cheat. Old hairy pulled his slight of hand and resurrected Teddy K to ghost write a tax bill. Gypsies tramps and thieves... pappa would do whatever he could. The end always justifies the means.
The IRS has proved again and again that it cannot be trusted; they targeted anyone who they thought could be a threat. They spent precious taxpayer dollars going to expensive, lavish and luxurious retreats, and making silly movies. The IRS has become a joke and cannot be trusted, so why would we allow 0bama to hire 16,000 more of these thieves to run our healthcare. Be afraid, very afraid. And, let us not forget how Lois Lerner who authorized much of the corruptions and targeting came before congress and proclaimed she did nothing wrong, but then she would not answer any questions or be honest and forthcoming. These people are vile and corrupt. Lois Lerner was put on leave, but she still collects her $200,000 salary. Amazing, huh?
The plan that Obama and his left wing henchmen have for America should be crystal clear at this point. It´s also clear the Harry Reid will succumb to no pressure to alter the path. There is one remote hope, and that is the 2014 mid-term election. There are 21 Democrat seats up for grabs in the senate. If in the outside chance that the Republicans could grab all of those seats they would clearly hold he power to pass legislation to repeal ObamaCare and fix the tax code (up to, and including abolishing the IRS). However, the 66 seats would not be enough to overcome Obama´s veto. The key election is the upcoming Massachusets special election. If Gabe Gomez wins, and the Republicans were to win all 21 seats next year, we could stop this steamroller. Of course the odds are nearly zero that the Republicans could win all 22 seats, and probably nearly zero that they are really willing to make the changes. But it´s a good thought, and one worthy of promulgating.
Sorry, but Roberts gets no pass from me. He twisted like a pretzel, turning a penalty into a tax. He above all knew this was not Constitutional..and appeared to be against it and changed his mind at the last minute. WHY? Did Obama cronies tap his phones? His email? In today´s world, we cannot afford to have a Supreme Court accountable to no one. Much harm has come to We the People from faulty decisions from a Court that is 1/2 socialist/communist. Our right to own our property is no longer valid. (Kelo) Our right to be responsible for ourselves (Obamacare) Neither of these decisions square with the Consitution. What about Freedom OF Religion? We are being ordered under LAW to violate our faith to provide birth control and abortions at taxpayer expense. Then there is Roe vs Wade..privacy rights for pregnant women, but not for all of us under Obamacare. The list is long. There is NOT ONE Branch of Government today that stands for the People and the Constitution. The danger is grave.
The Obamacare law, as written, requires not only that a person have health insurance, but has a large number of requirements for that insurance to contain. So I don´t know what other agency would enforce the goofy law, other than the IRS. It is, according to Roberts, a tax, and tax enforcement is done by the IRS.
This is really only symbolic and it will go nowhere. It would be a pity if it became a distraction from doing something effective. Pass a bill ( again ) abolishing Obamacare and then have no increases in the debt ceiling until Obama signs it into law. If there is any delay then up the ante and pass a bill abolishing the IRS along with all government programs that are doubtfully constitutional or carrying forward the progressive agenda and insist on it!
#8 rang a bell in my mind. I thought that I had heard about a lawsuit being filed about that fact that all tax bills must originate in the House and obamacare was originated in the Senate. Does anyone have any information about that?
If some coalition of libertarians and repubs don´t seize this opportunity to RUN on abolishing the IRS, it will be one of the greatest abdications of political savvy known to Americans. That one issue campaign promise is a sure winner, across the board. I do not know one person, no matter what political stripe,(or none at all), who supports the IRS.
Roberts decision to call the law a tax was brilliant. It will make it that much easier to repeal the law and as a matter of fact since the bill is a tax is should have originated in the House which it didn´t which should render the bill unlawful.
We can hope the law of death panels will grasp that Harry Reid is now about 80 years old and remove him from office. He should not be allowed to block bills that protect citizens from tyrants. He must walk with all the unnecessary seniors and take Nancy with him for she also has reached that magic age. When one congress critter can stay in office over 58 years the original purpose of a representative government is compromised. The natural tendency to believe they are superior sucks all reason from their brains and they decide they own everyone.
Communist medical and the KGB don´t work without a Gulag. We have a thriving prison industry, but so far no endless thousands of miles of filthy camps for traitors. Yes, that´s Obamaou´s dream. IRS out of Commie medicine. Don´t forget, IRS out of cancer provoking income tax. Sales tax only. Fire most IRS worker bees. Prevent them from killing more American spirit. Commiekare and IRS KGB gone. That would be an improvement for all. Cowardly Congress can end the IRS. Tell them not to be cowards.
Putting the IRS in charge of Obamacare was a bad idea wrapped in another bad idea.
Too great a portion of this nation´s history has been molded by men of grand vision but little wisdom. Income tax was a bad idea. It did not take exceptional understanding to realize that the power to pry into everyone´s business and to use enforcement power to take savings and belongings would be used poorly. The ´Great Society´ was started by men of good intentions but little understanding of human nature.
It did not take exceptional foresight to understand that Obamacare would result in death panels (or did it?).
Coupling the IRS and Obamacare represents a doubling-down of pig-headed ignorance.
#20, yes, there are a long list of requirements for the insurance we must have. The ironic thing is that when your plan includes all those requirments, as does the one we have from an employer, it costs a lot--and then it´s considered a "Cadillac Plan."
When you have a "Cadillac Plan," there is a tax that must be paid on the amount that the plan costs above $10,200 for individuals, and $27,500 for families. This is to force employers to offer LESS generous plans and have them seek to control medical costs.
Democrats own Obamacare. I will despise Democrats forever for what they have done to America. They have successfully overthrown our government and have turned this nation into a socialist third-world rabble dominated hellhole.
#22 - Matt Staver of Liberty Counsel gave oral arguments on May 16 with one of the points being that a tax bill must originate in the House. No decision there yet, but you can track this at libertycounsel.org.
There are several ifs involved, but I hope and pray that OP is correct that Chief Justice Roberts made the right political--certainly not legal--call in upholding the ACA, and letting it proceed to its painfully expensive and deadly objectives, enforced by the most obtrusive and despotic federal agency of all: the IRS.
A chess grandmaster can "see" many moves ahead and anticipate what his opponent is going to do, planning in advance to counter the moves he expects to be made against him. If he anticipates correctly, he can force checkmate or resignation.
The future of medical insurance is beginning to come into focus, and the picture is not pretty. Premiums which Democrats promised would become more affordable are rising alarmingly high, especially for healthy young people. Bureaucratic action is easing us onto the path of denial of medical care and death panels. The best medical insurance policies are about to be tagged with a confiscatory 40% tax. Democrats´ political allies in unions and favored businesses have been exempted from the law. As always, Congress gets special treatment; the law doesn´t apply to them. The infernal complexity and prolixity of the ACA makes it, like the tax code, subject to "expert" interpretation. You know where that leads.
If Roberts thinks like a grandmaster--and if he is correct--this categorically terrible legislation will cause so much pain and disruption, and cost so much, that it will, if played correctly by the Republicans, cause a sea change in voters´ preferences, fatally wounding the Democrats and the despised IRS. That´s a lot of ifs, though. Is Roberts that smart? I wouldn´t bet on it.
Anyone who’s ever gone on a diet is told to lay off the booze because it’s high in calories. And that, of course, must make it very fattening indeed. Go onto the NHS Direct website, and you’ll be told a glass of wine contains as many calories as a slice of cake. Or if you prefer beer, the British Nutrition Foundation reminds you two pints are roughly the equivalent in calories to a full glass of single cream. So you may be surprised to learn that there’s no scientific evidence whatsoever to support the idea that alcohol makes you on weight. That’s hugely counter-intuitive, I know, because alcohol certainly is said to contain lots of calories.
President Barack Obama sounded a nostalgic personal note Sunday night and offered a rare self-assessment while criticizing congressional Republicans as an "impediment" to governing during the start of a West Coast fundraising tour for the Democratic Party. Obama told donors the sight of Mt. Rainier illuminated by a setting sun was particularly special because it reminded him of his mother, who attended high school in the Seattle area. "I feel the spirit of my mom," he said. He also attempted to contrast himself with Republicans who control the House of Representatives, saying they are "more focused on positioning themselves for
Los Angeles - Rather than thanking a list of friends and colleagues, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis used their American Music Awards acceptance speech to send a message of tolerance on Sunday night. Ben Haggerty, the rapper known as Macklemore, accepted the award for favorite rap/hip-hop album, then quoted Martin Luther King Jr. in a live satellite feed from the rap group´s latest tour stop. "Due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids each year that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it," he said.
China and India’s success in weakening the latest global warming agreement created friction with other developing nations that are seeking to step up the fight against climate change. The two countries insisted on single-word changes for a deal at a United Nations conference involving 190 nations on Nov. 23. Instead of making “commitments” to roll back fossil fuel emissions, they signed up for “contributions,” a formulation that allows more flexibility in their action. Those last-minute revisions at a meeting that ran overtime by almost 30 hours underscored the reluctance of China and India to join in the sort of emissions
Washington - Hobby Lobby, a chain of crafts stores, closes on Sundays, costing its owners millions but honoring their Christian faith. The stores play religious music. Employees get free spiritual counseling. But they do not get free insurance coverage for some contraceptives, even though President Obama’s health care law requires it. Hobby Lobby, a corporation, says that forcing it to provide the coverage would violate its religious beliefs. A federal appeals court agreed, and the Supreme Court is set to decide on Tuesday whether it will hear the Obama administration’s appeal from that decision or appeals from one of
A historic agreement on Iran´s nuclear programme was made possible by months of unprecedented secret meetings between US and Iranian officials, in further signs of the accelerating detente between two of the world´s most adversarial powers, it emerged on Sunday. The meetings ran parallel to official negotiations involving five other world powers, (Snip) The Obama administration asked journalists not to publish details they had uncovered of the secret diplomacy until the Geneva talks were over for fear of derailing them. The Associated Press and a Washington-based news website, Al-Monitor, finally did so
Tokyo - Japan’s foreign minister on Sunday refused to recognize China’s newly claimed air defense zone over disputed islands, signaling that Japan would not back down as tensions increased in the maritime dispute. China on Saturday said its “air defense identification zone” would give it the right to identify and possibly take military action against aircraft near the islands in the East China Sea. The uninhabited islands are administered by Japan but claimed by China and Taiwan. China’s announcement appeared to be the latest step in what analysts have called a strategy to chip away at Japan’s claims of control of the islands.
Seattle - Boeing´s ties to the Pacific Northwest date back more than a century, when William Boeing purchased a Seattle shipyard that would become his first airplane factory. In recent years, however, those ties have been fraying, first with the company shifting its headquarters to Chicago, (Snip) In the contract vote late Wednesday, The International Association of Machinists District 751 rejected the proposal with 67 percent of the votes. Union members who called for a no vote did so in protest of Boeing´s push to end a traditional pension plan and increase their health care costs.
"Character is what you do when no one is watching." It´s a bit of a trite saying, attributed to coaches, motivational speakers and fortune cookie authors (by the way, whose idea was it for fortune cookies to replace predictions with treacly aphorisms from the "Successories" reject pile?). Still, the expression´s popularity illustrates the power of the idea behind it. Character is what you do when the only controlling authority is your conscience. Because young people do not yet have fully formed characters, they often need incentives beyond exhortations to do the right thing.
Washington - Problems with the federal health insurance website have prevented tens of thousands of low-income people from signing up for Medicaid even though they are eligible, federal and state officials say, undermining one of the chief goals of the 2010 health care law. The website, HealthCare.gov, is primarily seen as a place to buy private insurance with federal subsidies, but it is also a gateway to Medicaid, which generally provides more benefits at less cost to consumers. That door has been closed for the last six weeks, with the federal government unable to transfer its files to state Medicaid
Corydon, Iowa - The hills of southern Iowa bear the scars of America´s push for green energy: The brown gashes where rain has washed away the soil. The polluted streams that dump fertilizer into the water supply. Even the cemetery that disappeared like an apparition into a cornfield. It wasn´t supposed to be this way. (Snip) But the ethanol era has proven far more damaging to the environment than politicians promised and much worse than the government admits today. As farmers rushed to find new places to plant corn, they wiped out millions of acres of conservation land, destroyed habitat and
After dodging questions for months about video evidence said to show him using drugs, Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto stunned constituents and his own staff on Tuesday by telling a scrum of reporters, “Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine.” Video of Mr. Ford’s admission, during an impromptu news conference, showed him asking reporters to repeat the question they first raised in May, when journalists for Gawker and The Toronto Star described seeing video that appeared to show the mayor using drugs. When one reporter complied, asking, “Do you smoke crack cocaine?” the mayor admitted that he had done
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
MSNBC has announced that Chris Matthews, Barack Obama´s most excitable fan, will be interviewing the President on Thursday´s Hardball. Fawning over the liberal politician is incredibly common among journalists, but Matthews has taken it to a whole new level. According to the network host, Obama is a "perfect," "cool," brilliant figure who is comparable to Jesus, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. The verbose Matthews has no filter when it comes to the Democrat, even once bizarrely blurting out that an Obama speech made him "forget" that the commander in chief "was black." To prepare you for the likely love-fest
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
