he Obama administration has taken a first step toward opening a criminal investigation into the purported leaking of classified documents related to the federal government tracking Americans´ phone calls and emails, a source familiar with the high-level discussions told Fox News on Saturday. The source said a “criminal report has been filed,” which begins the process. The FBI and Justice Department would likely be involved in such a probe, which is expected to focus on British and U.S. newspapers including The Guardian.
Comments: It kind of reminds me of OJ posting a reward for the "real" killer. This country is in SO much trouble.
*Also Chad Pergram, the Associated Press and Reuters
The first step would be to USE the PRISM intercepts that were criminally obtained against American citizens. Since the "leaked" information was given to a foreign [UK] newspaper, try using the dreaded Patriot Act. Don´t forget to get a legal warrant because they may sue US in return. The "Guardian" sounds like a front for terrorist activity since it obviously wants to topple the paranoid 0bamaNation. [What ever happened to Echelon?]
It´s pretty amazing how Obama wasn´t the least bit concerned over wikileaks which spewed millions of bits of insider state dept.info around the world but he´s all up in arms over who possibly leaked the NSA story.I still say wikileaks was an inside job that went way beyond pvt. Manning, who´s now just a hapless fall guy for these creeps. They also shut the door on wikileaks when they were about to spill the beans on the banking industry.
No matter what thesepeopleget caught doing, they have a flimsy excuse ready in 5 minutes, feed it to their lapdogs in the media and half the country believes them.
Bush took the war on terror seriously but he had armies of lawyers, check and double check everything he did to make sure it was legal, even water boarding.Pelosi didn´t object to water boarding at all when she was briefed but developed amnesia about it later when they made a big deal out of it.
There´s many forms of torture, including persistent mental anguish which Obama imposes on this country every day. We don´t even know the half of the corrupt things he does behind the scenes and there will never be a paper trail on any of it.
#5, your last sentence is spot on and is the scariest part. Because we have been legitimately distrustful of this Administration, we view everything we see with a jaundiced eye and everything we don´t see is equally troubling.
I am waiting for someone, some group in Congress, somebody, to take this Administration on and tear it to shreds.
NOT after the person who "tracked" all the American customers of Verizon?
Oh -- that´s kinda like the fox watching the hen house.
Hmmmmmmm -- NOW that´s a good way to describe obama´s administration. THE HEN HOUSE....with all those women -- hilldabeast, big sis, powers, lerner, mooochelle, that obamacare witch and I´ll add eleanor clift of McLauglin @ PBS.
Here´s a hint for the politically dense....OBAMA LEAKED THE PHONE AND INTERNET TRACKING PROGRAMS!
Why? To overload the media and public and distract from the real crimes and malfeasance in Benghazi and IRS scandals. We now know that besides denying conservative groups for 501(c)(4) status, the IRS was targeting Romney contributors for audits and was leaking confidential information--a felony. And we absolutely know the WH knew this in spring 2012, and it appears that they knew in March 2011 as well--that is, if they didn´t originate it. The WH took no action then or even now. No one was fired. The harassment of conservatives was allowed to continue. As a minimum, that makes Obama a co-conspirator after the fact to a felony. An impeachable offense. And behind everything in Benghazi, we will find an illegal gun-running operation by the CIA. Ollie North, anyone? By contrast, the NSA program is not so clear-cut, and has a lot of gray. Diverting attention to the NSA scandal distracts from the real crimes that could impeach him. At the end of the day, the NSA scandals will suck up all the oxygen, and it will be concluded that "they weren´t so bad."
A brilliant strategy to use with a lapdog media and a LoFo public.
It´s one of two things: 0b@ma had this leaked to take the heat off of IRS, Benghazi, DOJ, et al; or: he took a well-intentioned program for tracking terrorists, and has been using it to track and target the people who oppose him, like he used the IRS to target and stop people who oppose him.
At this stage of the game, I wouldn´t place money on which scenario is most likely, but the second seems more in sync with the Kenyan Marxist´s goals.
He doesn´t give a tinker´s damn about keeping the country safe, but he would use [and has] any means possible to stop the people who oppose his destruction of the nation.
When you´ve got a cabinet officer telling the nation that the true threat is Christians and soldiers, what do you think is going to happen? We didn´t see this coming? 0b@ma wants a private civilian security force, better funded and equipped than the military.
The only thing that surpirses me is that one of us --We, The People, haven´t been brought up on charges for something we posted here or at any number of other forums where we post, because you know the Kenyan´s henchmen are looking at us --and probably know where to find us.
Congratulations Obama. You are almost done bankrupting America and apparently you have gone around the world overthrowing the West before John McCain could get his pants on. Actually McCain collared Bachmann when she raised her hand about the Muslim Putsch. Should be Congratulations Obama. Honorable Mention in the 9th Circle of Hell McCain.
You could be correct 14, 17, 19. It would fit the "best defense is a good offense" mantra/modus. The military sex scandals are another red herring to take heat off of Obama and hurt them instead. If makes me furious they corral those military generals and admirals to Capitol Hill to take a communist brow beating for political reasons. Even the pub´s attempt to defend them have been mostly lame and MSNBC makes fun of their defenses, like Mr Chambliss. Sexual harassment has to be going on all the time in the military and it is just now getting press? Hmmm. How ironic.
It would be hilarious if Obama could not find the source of the leaks or even who they talked to overseas, that supposedly being the whole reason for their(NSA) existence/foreign terrorism. That would show all too well they gather data on the wrong people.
Obama after another domestic terrorist attack: "Where´s Security adviser Rice, Rice? Rice? Anyone, Rice?". Aid: "She got blown up by a terrorist sir". ha ha.
#21´ about the USPS, that gal snail mailing ricin laced letters to øb@mmie, from Texas, I believe, was tracked down using the USPS. They are photographing fron and back side of ALL mail going through the post. Little thing to correlate patterns in snail mailings just like phone or email.
The PRISM/Verizon leaks are a twofer: (1) they take heat off of the IRS, Benghazi and DoJ scandals, and (2) make Obama look tough on terrorism, in an undertaking the Republicans will back him on (well, Amnesty Graham and John the Pain will, the two Republicans the media knows anyway). Once it all gets moshed together, it´ll be "the Republicans back Obama because he had national security in mind and those conservatives would whine no matter what the One did", and it´ll all fade away into the wine cups of the next big NYT Christmas party bash...
Obama has perfected the "Guide for the Married Man" defense. This was a movie mad a long time ago with Walter Matthau and Robert Morse (of Mad Men fame). If I remember it correctly, Morse is instructing Matthau how to cheat on your wife and not get caught.
Morse does tell Matthau want to do if he does get caught. You see a scene where Matthau´s wife catches him in bed with another woman. Morse tells him to deny everything (even though she catches him in the act). He does that and the wife keeps hounding him because he cheated and she caught him. Matthau acts like nothing happened. Eventually, the wife capitulates and asks Matthau what he wants for dinner.
This is the Obama/Holder defense. It´s worked for every scandal (Fast and Furious, Benghazi, IRS, APgate, ...).
Keep your eye on the ball. All of the scandals since Benghazi are a burden on but not a mortal threat to the presidency. Benghazi is. We´re witnessing massive diversions and it´s working. Don´t let it.
So, Obozo is going to send the FBI to Britain to "investigate" and leaks to the British media? Riiiiight. So now US law covers foreign nations too? Just because we want it to? Same thing as giving terrorists Constitutional "rights" when their not even citizens? What has this country come to.
It´s time we all decided what the 2nd Amendment was created for and to apply it before we get to the point that there are not enough of us left to do so.
You know, there´s a genuine poetic justice type of solution here that seems to have eluded everyone...subpoena the records of their own Boundless Informant system to find out who was talking to whom on each of these scandals. Benghazi. IRS. All of it. Who. When. The whole network. The timing. etc.
Then match it against the testimony key players have given. There is no doubt in my mind that the very system they´ve created will in fact ensnare the creators when turned against them with a legal court order.
Uh ... wait a minute. If NSA has a super secret program to vacuum up all electronic communications, domestic and foreign, and super secret analysis supercomputers to analyze all the data they vacuum up, don´t they already know?
FTA: White House spokesman Ben Rhodes said earlier on Saturday that the president is reviewing the situation to see what kind of damage might have been done. Yeah just like the fox guarding the hen house.
Big kudos to #5. The "Bush did it too" is what they appear to be trying to do in order to lessen the outrage. The difference between W. and Obama, besides skin color and party, is W. had/has a sense of right and wrong, morality and immorality, Constitutional vs unConstitutional, American vs unAmerican, freedom and liberty vs chains and slavery, and a democratic republic vs a totalitarian socialism. Thank you #5 for contrasting George W. Bush´s excellence in handling our country in very dangerous times vs Obama whose leadership(nonleadership) is destroying America and shredding her Constitution with impunity.
Bush did do it too. He is the one that began to take an axe to privacy and freedom in the name of fighting terrorism and you guys because you are Republicans, want to defend him just like the liberals defend Obama. Wake up. We´ve all been played from chumps. Don´t make it so easy for them to keep playing this game.
Further to #41’s reply to #40, and well worth repeating, are these prescient observations from #39:
“The difference between W. and Obama, besides skin color and party, is W. had/has a sense of right and wrong, morality and immorality, Constitutional vs. unConstitutional, American vs. unAmerican, freedom and liberty vs. chains and slavery, and a democratic republic vs. a totalitarian socialism. Thank you #5 for contrasting George W. Bush´s excellence in handling our country in very dangerous times vs. Obama whose leadership (nonleadership) is destroying America and shredding her Constitution with impunity.”
As for the choice of the Guardian: First, breaking the story in a non-U.S. outlet ensures that it will have legs, and perhaps be deemed more trustworthy by U.S. readers. Second, in the Henhouse’s (hat-tip to #13!) view, anything that appears to boost the co-religionist Guardian’s rep will be seen to diminish the credibility of the Daily Mail and especially of the Torygraph, which of course are home to many of our worthy right-side allies, including James Delingpole, Nile Gardiner, and Melanie Phillips.
A game called "Point-em-out, Knock-em-out" has made its way to Lansing, and it´s exactly how it sounds. The game consists of someone being randomly targeted, then attacked. It´s a game that has been growing with popularity on the internet, with teenagers filming themselves punching unsuspecting victims. Lansing had its first case of the game brought to light this summer, but it´s possible that it has been happening under the radar for months. On February 26th a man waiting for his six-year-old daughter to be dropped off from school, had no idea
“I sit here all day trying to persuade people to do the things they ought to have sense enough to do without my persuading them,” Harry Truman once lamented. “That’s all the powers of the President amount to.” As usual, the plain-speaking Truman got it right: presidential power is the power to persuade. Too bad the current occupant of the White House has never learned this basic lesson. Barack Obama’s refusal to negotiate with the Republicans in Congress on the government shutdown is proof once again that he doesn’t understand
Tractor-trailer drivers will intentionally clog the inner loop of the Washington, D.C., beltway beginning on the morning of Oct. 11, according to a coordinator of the upcoming "Truckers Ride for the Constitution" rally. Organizers of the three-day ride want to call attention to a litany of trucker frustrations and express their disapproval of national political leaders. Earl Conlon, a Georgia trucker who is handling logistics for the protest, told U.S. News tractor-trailer drivers will circle the beltway "three lanes deep" as he rides with other participants to Congress to seek the arrest of congressmen
Overloaded websites and jammed phone lines frustrated consumers for a second day as they tried to sign up for health insurance under the nation´s historic health care overhaul. That was putting pressure on the federal government and the states that are running their own insurance exchanges to fix the problems amid strong demand for the private insurance plans. "I think I´m through with Hawaii Health Connector," said Richard Gamberg, 61, of Honolulu, after tweeting messages to officials and complaining to state lawmakers on Wednesday. "They´ve got ads in the newspaper
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is touting its new lunch standards in a promotional video, claiming the program is “proving to be popular.” However, multiple news reports suggest the standards—which originated in First Lady Michelle Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010—are driving kids out of the lunch line. “The U.S. Department of Agriculture is celebrating good news for America’s schools,” the video, which was released last week, said. “New guidelines for healthier school meals introduced last year are proving to be popular, as nearly 80 percent of school districts have adopted the changes.”
Giglio Island: Salvage operators in Italy have lifted the Costa Concordia cruise ship upright from its watery grave off the island of Giglio in the biggest ever project of its kind. The ship´s horn sounded for the first time since the January 13, 2012 tragedy, its sound mixing with applause and cheers in the port in a dramatic climax to the massive salvage operation. The 290-metre, 114,500-tonne vessel - longer than the Titanic and more than twice as heavy - rose from the sea like a ghost ship.
The Daily Caller has taken a keen interest in Oberlin College after breaking the story about how an Obama-supporting white kid and his sidekick allegedly circulated virulently racist, anti-Jewish and anti-gay messages around campus. (Snip) As The Plain Dealer reports, Oberlin’s administration recently altered the school’s bizarre trespassing policy, which dates back to the 1970s. Previously, the school had maintained a secret list of people blackballed from the campus. Only the school’s safety and security department and local police knew the names on the list. School officials did not notify the individuals
District Attorney Jason Hicks said outside the first court hearing in the Oklahoma town of Duncan that he was "going to do everything I can to ensure these three thugs pay for what they did to Christopher Lane". "To those friends of ours in Australia, we would say to you this is not Duncan, Oklahoma," Mr Hicks said. "This is not Stephens County, Oklahoma." Stephens County Courthouse heard how one of the boys accused of murdering Lane, 22, danced and laughed as he was taken into a police station
The Navy has decided that it will not repair the nuclear-powered submarine USS Miami after concluding that the cost of repairing damage from a fire set by a civilian worker is more than it can afford due to mandated budget cuts. The decision to scrap the Groton, Conn.-based sub comes after a damage assessment by the Navy found that estimated repair costs, originally estimated to be about $450 million, have risen dramatically, a Navy official told The Military Times. Rear Adm. Rick Breckenridge, director of undersea warfare, said Tuesday that repairing the submarine
Congress has won some partial relief for lawmakers and their staffs from the "Obamacare" health reforms that it passed and subjected itself to three years ago. In a ruling issued on Wednesday, U.S. lawmakers and their staffs will continue to receive a federal contribution toward the health insurance that they must purchase through soon-to-open exchanges created by President Barack Obama´s signature healthcare law. The decision by the Office of Personnel Management, with Obama´s blessing, will prevent the largely unintended loss of healthcare benefits for 535 members of the Senate and House of Representatives
Here’s a tip — don’t tweet about getting stiffed! A fed-up cook who worked at the popular food cart Milk Truck was canned for using Twitter to call out Wall Street executives who racked up a huge tab and didn’t leave a tip. “I’ve had plenty of food-service jobs and I’ve kept my mouth shut — but this time I figured, I’m sick of this,” cook Brendan O’Connor, 24, told The Post yesterday. O’Connor was flipping fancy grilled cheeses near the South Street Seaport in the Financial District on July 22 when a group of workers
Two Detroit pension funds sued the city’s emergency manager and the governor of Michigan, asking that a court find a bankruptcy filing would conflict with the state’s constitutional protection of public retirees’ rights. The General Retirement System and the Police and Fire Retirement System of the City of Detroit filed the lawsuit yesterday in state court in Ingham County, Michigan, seeking a judgment that Governor Rick Snyder can’t authorize a bankruptcy filing that could reduce pension benefits. The funds also sued Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, who was appointed by Snyder in March
More young men in California rise in pitch at the end of their sentences when talking, new research shows. This process is known as "uptalk" or "valleygirl speak" and has in the past been associated with young females, typically from California or Australia. But now a team says that this way of speaking is becoming more frequent among men.The findings were presented at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in California. "We found use of uptalk in all of our speakers, despite their diverse backgrounds in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, bilingualism and gender," said Amanda Ritchart, a linguist at the University of
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
DAVID CORN: I saw a president who remains frustrated with the political-media culture that he has to work within, and that he´s looking to rally people, students here, and supporters, and people within the media. CHRIS MATTHEWS: But David Corn, you skeptic. He came to us today. He came amongst us. CORN: He´s trying to rally people behind this vision that he´s been promoting for a couple years. FINEMAN: By the way, he did it the end here, today, Chris, not by defending specifics, but by explaining why he´s in the game to begin with. And I don´t know about you, he´s
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
The most curious thing of all about the November jobs report released on Friday was the huge drop in the unemployment rate — and the fact that the Labor Department chose not to disclose that the data going into that figure are under investigation for falsification. On Nov. 19, I broke the news in my column that the Census Bureau, which collects data that goes into the jobless rate on behalf of Labor, had caught one of its enumerators fabricating interviews in 2010. The culprit said back then (and to me during an interview) that he was told to do so by

Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
One definition of a pathological liar is someone who lies where the truth would serve just as well. When President Obama’s uncle, Onyango Obama, was arrested in 2011 for drunk driving, the truth — that Obama had stayed with his uncle years earlier for several weeks as a Harvard law student — would have served the president just fine. No potential Obama voter would have held it against him that an uncle he had stayed with two decades earlier was picked up for DUI. Yet the White House went with a lie, claiming that Obama had never met his uncle. Now that
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Although the jobless rate in November fell to its lowest level since he took office, President Obama called on Republican lawmakers Saturday to spend tens of billions on unemployment benefits that are set to expire this month. “It shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address. But he said the “economic lifeline” is in jeopardy. “All because Republicans in this Congress — which is on track to be the most unproductive in history — have so far refused to extend it” Mr. Obama said. If Congress doesn’t act before lawmakers leave on their holiday break, about
