What we do to Syria may

Mail Online [UK], by Peter Hitchens

Imagine this: Newspapers and broadcasters in China suddenly start to denounce the British government. They call it a ‘regime’. They say that its treatment of its Muslim minority is cruel and unjust. (Snip) All the time, foreign media report in a wholly one-sided way, credulously trumpeting British government ‘atrocities’ without verification. And then all the major countries in the world agree to permit the direct supply of weapons to the rebels. Absurd? Wait and see. Something quite like this actually happened on a small scale in Northern Ireland, where American individuals helped buy guns and bombs

A warning for those who clamor for military action in Syria. See also his item about the next coronation.

A read that should give all of us pause. What if some other nation or entity (read: UN or World Government) winds up as the world´s policeman - and polices us? It brings to mind the Founders´ warnings about "foreign entanglements".

Everyone seems to be pouring gas onto the fire. From day 1 Hillary should have worked with Putin to try and end the fighting. The Brits and France are already planning to send bulk small arms and ammunition by August.

We have a decimated Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Mali, with many more countries on the brink.

Then add John McCain´s interference and you can safely bet that in the end there will be big trouble, because lately he has always been wrong in what he says and instigates.

The 900 years of conflict between the Norman occupation state in Britain and the Welsh, Irish, Scottish, Manx and Cornish people is hardly comparable to the situation in Syria ~

There is a very good reason why about 90% of the world´s Celtic folks live somewhere other than Europe ~ in contrast, about 90% of the world´s Arabic speaing people live in the Middle East and have done so for the last 5,000 or so years, with most of the last 1,000 years finding them being Turkish captives.

Sorry ~ too many dissimilarities ~ does not compute.

UK as a victim doesn´t work well either ~ which is why you had Americans financing gun running to the IRA (albeit the wrong IRA ~ since the most recent version were a bunch of commies ~ a few B52 runs could have changed that problem ~ but you´d still had Americans of substantial Irish ancestry sending guns to somebody else ~ maybe the right ones this time)

Fiscal Deal

WASHINGTON — Senate Democratic and Republican leaders reached final agreement on a deal to reopen the government and extend its borrowing authority into February, with votes in the House and Senate possibly to begin this afternoon, according to aides familiar with the negotiations. Senate Republicans have gathered for a final review, but lawmakers have given no indication they will block it. A government shutdown into its third week yielded virtually no concessions to the Republicans other than some minor tightening of income verifications for people obtaining subsidized insurance premiums under the new health care law.

In 20 or so years of political speechwriting, the only condition I have ever set down in advance of being hired is that I would never, under any circumstances, assist any candidate or officeholder in promoting the cause of abortion. (Snip) Come to think of it, I first learned about the “abortion rights” cause and about the ruthlessness of industrialized farming around the same time, at the age of 13 or 14, and my reaction to both was similar: You just don’t treat life that way. Sanford, Fla. - George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot an unarmed black teenager, igniting a national debate on racial profiling and civil rights, was found not guilty on Saturday of the second-degree murder of Trayvon Martin. He also was acquitted of manslaughter, a lesser charge. After three weeks of testimony, the six-woman jury rejected the prosecution’s contention that Mr. Zimmerman had deliberately pursued Mr. Martin because he viewed the hoodie-clad teenager as a criminal and instigated the fight that led to his death. Mr. Zimmerman said he shot

Just when I thought the George Zimmerman "trial" couldn´t sink any lower, the prosecutorial limbo dancers of the State of Florida magnificently lowered their own bar in the final moments of their cable-news celebrity. In real justice systems, the state decides what crime has been committed and charges somebody with it. In the Zimmerman trial, the state´s "theory of the case" is that it has no theory of the case: might be murder, might be manslaughter, might be aggravated assault, might be a zillion other things, but it´s something.

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either.
