Holder’s Regrets and Repairs
Daily Beast, by Daniel Klaidman

Original Article

Posted By:toledo, 5/28/2013 9:17:42 AM

It was Friday, May 17, and officials at the Department of Justice had gotten word that The Washington Post was working on an explosive story: a reporter had obtained an affidavit for a search warrant to seize a Fox News journalist’s personal emails. Controversy was already swirling around the DOJ over the recent revelation that federal prosecutors had seized the phone records of reporters and editors from the Associated Press in a separate leak probe. Media organizations, civil-liberties groups, and members of Congress were in an uproar about the AP case

Eric Holder is too cowardly to have an honest discussion about lawlessness in his Office and Department. He is too arrogant to feel remorse. The rug is about to come out from under him and he´s too ignorant to care.

A ridiculous article. Especially the part where the author talks about Rosen using "coding" in his emails with the guy in DOD. Ummmm, in some ways it´s very similar to the fake email addresses that the EPA set up - but since it was the EPA it was OK.

Sorry, no sympathy for Holder.

10 NYC schoolchildren have
committed suicide in 2014
New York Post, by Kevin Fasick and Laura Italiano    Original Article

The city’s public schools are in the grip of a suicide epidemic. Ten students have taken their own lives in the past seven weeks, according to remarks made Saturday by Chancellor Carmen Fariña. “As chancellor, I’ve been on the job seven weeks, and there have already been 10 reported suicides. We cannot allow those,” she told 250 new principals at Stuyvesant HS during a private meeting. “I get those e-mails all the time. And it makes me heartsick.” The tragic statistic — which amounts to more than one suicide per week — has not been released publicly. The Post obtained a recording of Fariña’s

Romney slams Obama for

WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney said Sunday that President Barack Obama is naive when it comes to Russia, has shown "faulty judgment" about Moscow´s intentions and could have done more to try to deter its annexation of Crimea. The 2012 Republican presidential nominee said Obama didn´t have the foresight to anticipate Russia´s moves and should have been working earlier with allies to make clear the penalties that Russia would face if it moved into Ukraine. Romney did acknowledge that such steps may not have been enough though to hold back Russia President Vladimir Putin. "Had we communicated those things, there´s always

The conventional wisdom -- that Democrats will probably lose the Senate this fall -- is now hardening into cement. Even Democratic pundits are falling into line. We all know that politics is a never-ending spin cycle in which commentators cast their own side in the most favorable light. That helps explain why some conservatives insisted up to Election Day that Mitt Romney was going to send Barack Obama packing. It´s still early for definitive pronouncements about whether Republicans will pick up the six seats they need to make Mitch McConnell majority leader. However nationalized the election, these are a series of local

US authorities increasingly suspect that the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was part of a suicide plot by a crew member, one of Congress’ top terrorism experts told The Post on Sunday. “There is a growing consensus that this was a suicide by the pilot or co-pilot and that they wanted to get as far away and land in the farthest and deepest part of the ocean,” said Rep. Pete King (R-LI), chair of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence. King said the scheme might have hinged on the hope that family members could still collect life insurance

Ten of the consulting firms that formed the core of the push to elect Mitt Romney — reaping a combined $1 billion in the process — have survived a tea party assault and are again among the highest-grossing and best-positioned players in Republican politics. The firms and their consultants have been paid more than $19.6 million for 2014 campaign work through January, according to a POLITICO analysis. They’ve also cemented relationships with some of the GOP’s rising stars, setting up the firms for even bigger paydays headed into the fall, when costly advertising and mail campaigns begin, and for a 2016

WASHINGTON — When Senator Mitch McConnell’s re-election campaign released two-and-a-half minutes of video footage featuring him wordlessly smiling, it was most likely hoping to provide a friendly “super PAC’ with high-quality images of Mr. McConnell to use in ads. Instead, the campaign got a viral video sensation that exploded on the Internet last week, and even spawned its own term — “McConnelling.” The phenomenon started on Tuesday when the campaign put out a web video filled with genial images of Mr. McConnell, the Kentucky Republican and minority leader: Mr. McConnell smiling at the camera; Mr. McConnell smiling at his wife; Mr. McConnell

In East Harlem, my old neighborhood, two buildings collapsed because of a gas leak, scores are injured or missing, and at last count, 8 persons were killed in this tragedy. The 13th district Democrat Congressman, Charles Rangel, calls it ‘our community’s 9/11’ and that he’s "never had anything this horrific that’s happened in my community since I’ve been in Washington." Well, I don’t know where he was on September 11, 2001 but it obviously wasn’t in New York City. If he was in Washington, surely he would have been horrified by the Pentagon attack for on that day in America,

LONDON — Talks between U.S. Secretary of State John F. Kerry told reporters that after six hours of talks with Lavrov, “the foreign minister made it clear that President [Vladimir] Putin is not prepared to make any decision regarding Ukraine until after the referendum on Sunday.” He referred to a Crimean vote on independence, which Crimean officials

Full disclosure I’m a bit of a fan of “Between Two Ferns,” which is to say it is sometimes very funny and sometimes not. That seems fitting given that it is on a site called “funny or die.” Sometimes it is funny and sometimes it dies. The same can be said of the president’s stint on the show. I think some of it is funny. Some of it is not. As for the complaint that it was unbecoming, I’m a bit torn. I don’t fret overly about the dignity of the presidency. President Clinton arguably did more to undermine the dignity of

Senator Rand Paul focused his highly popular speech last week at CPAC on his constitutional objections to U.S. national-security policy. But he has broader plans for a more libertarian, non-aggressive foreign policy and he’s considered a contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, so he laid out what President Paul would do about the Ukraine crisis in an op-ed for Time. As Jonathan Chait points out, he doesn’t seem to have thought this out very well. President Paul would suspend its plans for this summer’s G-8 summit — which President Obama’s already done. He would urge “our European allies to leverage

I´ve had my eye on Detroit´s bankruptcy proceedings because it is indicative of what´s to come for a lot of cities. How Detroit deals with its bankruptcy could also set a precedent for other cities forced to deal with the decisions of bankruptcy, satisfying pensions and debtors. Unfortunately, Detroit´s Emergency Manager Kevin Orr is shirking his responsibilities to the city and creditors by not making the hard choices to put Detroit on sound financial footing. As I wrote a few months ago, the key is the art. If you or I were to file for bankruptcy, we would be forced to sell

A major Democratic donor pleaded guilty on Monday to funneling millions of dollars in illegal campaign donations to federal and local politicians, including an unnamed 2008 presidential candidate believed to be Hillary Clinton. District of Columbia businessman Jeffrey Thompson, who federal prosecutors say financed a “shadow campaign” for D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray in 2010, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws. Thompson claimed some of the candidates, including Gray, were aware of the illegal fundraising. According to prosecutors, Thompson funded a $600,000 shadow campaign “in coordination with and in support for a federal candidate for president of the United States.” The charges

"As scientists, it is not our role to tell people what they should do," it said as it began one of those sentences that you know will build to a "but". "But human-caused climate risks abrupt, unpredictable and potentially irreversible changes." In other words, the most distinguished scientists from the country with the world´s pre-eminent educational institutions were trying to shake humanity out of its complacency. Why weren´t their warnings leading the news? In one sense, the association´s appeal

A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions. Corporations are not people. Corporations cannot have religious views. If religious rights are extended to corporations, it puts us on a slippery slope where any private company

The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,
