Stupid
Weekly Standard, by P. J. O´Rourke

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 5/27/2013 9:40:00 PM

“You’re stupid,” is not something even his most severe critics usually say to President Barack Obama. But on Friday morning I picked up the Wall Street Journal and learned that the president had given a speech about the war on terror saying, “This war, like all wars, must end.” That story was at the top of the front page. Immediately below was a photograph of flowers being laid at a makeshift memorial near the Woolwich Royal Arsenal where machine gunner Lee Rigby was hacked to death by terrorists. This war, like all wars, must end when someone wins it.

There are two schools of thought on this. One (apparently seconded by the great P.J.O´Rourke) claims that Obama is merely "stupid" for generating his disastrous policies. The other (which I subscribe to) claims that on the contrary, Obama is very cunning.

If he were merely stupid, the Law of Random Stupidity would result in some of his policies being occasionally and accidentally beneficial to the United States. However, since his policies on all fronts (financial, regulatory, diplomatic, military, etc.) are methodically injurious to the United States, they can only be the result of purposeful, cunning strategy. And aided and abetted by a wide array of useful idiots in the media, he is getting away with it.

Saying stuff like 57 states is ignorant. Willful ignorance is every bit as detrimental as stupidity. Throw in the lies and wonder how they can flow so effortlessly. Is it arrogance or stupidity to totally disrespect that which is not oneself? Stupid or horribly empty, who cares, Stinky is an awful human being.

I agree with above posters on how completely we are being destroyed. I cry for our lost freedoms. Our Founding Fathers´ rules set out are being trampled daily by those in charge.

Stupid is a targeted word that works. I see what he´s saying, and I agree. You can be brilliant or ignorant or wicked or cunning and still act stupidly. Obama does many things that come across as stupid.

For instance, the other day when he didn´t salute the Marine standing at the foot of the stairs by AF1. It was careless and stupid and he went back down and shook the guy´s hand to make up for it, yadda yadda.

But the act itself, forgetting to salute, characterizes Obama´s approach to just about everything. His self absorption leads to stupid actions.

It is apparent now that with the suppression of the conservative and Republican vote by the IRS and their operatives, and combined with the voter fraud techniques commonly used by Democrats nationwide, Obama´s election win was fraudulent. This should be investigated and IRS employees imprisoned for criminally affecting the outcome of a national election.

Zippy can be compared to the Editorial Board of the NYT. Even by mistake they can never be caught on the right (yes the pun is intentional) side of any issue. The ideology is driven by a completely Unamerican world view. And sure enough every act falls out in that direction. They could be stupid but intentional evil cannot be ruled out.

I’m inclined to liken our current Oval Office trespasser with Edgar Bergen’s Charlie McCarthy or even more apt, Mortimer Snerd. Then there’s Paul Winchell’s Jerry Mahoney. Or Geppetto’s Pinocchio. But, most accurate of all, George Soros’s Barack Hussein Obama with a little help from his friend Valerie Jarrett.

Regardless of the era of dummies with which you can best identify, he’s nothing more than a figurehead. Better yet, someone once used the term hood ornament.

The only thing we know about him for sure is that he’s not in any way real, genuine or authentic. What we see is NOT what we get.

Dopey stimulus, obtuse bailout, noodle-headed Obamacare, half-wit Dodd-Frank, damfool IRS Tea Party crashers, AP and Fox News beset by oafish peeping Toms and the Benghazi tale told by an idiot. One could go on. Stupid is a great force in human affairs. And the great force has a commander in chief.

This is just too much fun, mainly because it´s true and because P.J. is so good at it.

The idea that American power should be projected for nation building in so-called nation states stitched together by Elmer´s glue and embedded in the 16th century-given the results of their 12 year ´war on tactics´---rightfully belongs in the history´s graveyard, along with phrenology, communism, and socialism.

I dunno, I used to really like PJ, but I´ve not been much impressed by anything he´s written in the past few years. This article, like many of his recent attempts, does not begin to approach the heights of insight and wit that I´d come to expect from him.

It would seem that "if you don´t use it you lose it" has definite consequences. For me, at least, Mr. O´Rourke´s portion has been replaced by Mark Steyn.

Maybe I´m in the minority here but I think if jug ears had anything between those ears, he would be accomplishing his destruction of the country without leaving such a trail of obvious use of smoke & mirrors, heavy-handed thuggery and lies that are transparent at the first movement of his lips. The fact that many of us had his number before the 2008 election does make him stupid, clumsy and lazy. What he and his equally stupid puppet masters have done to America is reversible and repairable. If we keep him against the ropes defending himself from his own stupidity, he will be helpless in perpetrating any more damage. Obamacare will die under its own weight and the dictator will not remain in office unless he attempts to use deadly force against the American people, the ultimate stupid act.

We must rein in the office of the Presidency to its founding Constitutional limits. Presidents have been allowed to amass way too much power. This goes back generations. If Obama was forced to abide by the Constitutional dictates he wouldn´t have been able to wound us as he has. However, the only forces that can rein him in are the other two branches of government. Unfortunately they appear to have no interest.

Stupid and evil. Why isn´t it possible to combine both in one person?

He was just smart enough to absorb all the Communist teaching provided Frank Marshall Davis, his mother and his grandparents. But too stupid to realize that Communism has never worked and never will work. And it hurts everybody but the nomenklatura. He has always been in the nomenklatura, so it doesn´t affect him. His position on Communism will never change

He absorbed the teaching he received in Indonesia on Islam, too, but he can´t reason his way into realizing that Islamic fundamentalists want to destroy, literally and violently if necessary, all opposition to Islam. To him, it´s all about a superior ethnic heritage. His position on Islam will never change.

In grade school, high school, college and law school he was taught by liberals that the cause of suffering in the world is oppression of the Third World by the West. He is unable to see that Third World leaders keep their subjects in poverty in order to make themselves rich. His position on the Third World will never change.

He is evil enough to want to reward his himself and his friends and hurt his enemies. Communists, Islamic fundamentalists and the Third World are his friends. We are his enemies. And he is so stupid that he can´t see things any other way. Unfortunately he has more than enough power to impose his stupid and evil views on the rest of us.

From the start I thought Obama was stupid, triggered by those inane speeches that the DNC media goofs claimed were "soaring". His dullness is a giveaway. No spontaneity or cleverness of expression is the hallmark of a slow-witted person. The childishness of his speaking context shows that he has no intellectual growth beyond his early years. He is trapped in a world of juvenile emotions and thought, combined with a lack of curiosity, keeping him trapped in a world of socialist claptrap. He is very destructive, but that is not something that is always alien to the immature. Being a bully is not a sign of giftedness. Lack of civility is not a sign of strength. All in all he shows the signs of an envious person who has no hope of becoming a person of quality, and he wants others to pay for his self-glorification. If he weren’t dumb he would be able to find, on his own, constructive ways to resolve his personal problems and needs. Combining his intellectual ineptitude with an uncoordinated body stirred by a lack of moral stature and supported by political fanatics, results in a very dangerous situation.

And, Obama was indoctrinated and radicalized at an early age. He hasn´t had a new thought since. Evil and stupid.

The first Black "anything" has a better than even chance of being stupid. It has nothing to do with being black, but has everything to do with being the "first" of something, regardless of the qualifier. It could be the "first Hispanic Senator to [blank]." Ahem ... anyway ... regardless of whether it is an elected, appointed, or hired position, being the first "something" to occupy it is almost always the result of the electors or employer or appointer suspending all good judgment and any reservations they may have in order to apply one, and only one, criteria to the selection process and (here is the kicker) also be the FIRST ones to do it. The first ones to display willful stupidity in order to elect a "first." It´s a double!

So, if the first black president is stupid, it is hardly his fault. He was stupid long before we elected him, and will still be stupid after he has left office. But as to those who elected him, ... well ... will our first Hispanic president be a Republican?

The only truthful statement he has made in his public career happened when he mused that if he had a son, the youth would look just like Trayvon Martin - spot on, Zippy, punks begat punks and only apples fall from apple trees!

Obama´s father probably was Frank Marshall Davis and I don´t think he was dumb.

Obama is a socialpath and they tend to be lazy. That and his narcissism makes his brain work differently than normal folks. But the problem is not that he is "dumb." He´s accomplishing all he and his handlers want him to do with very weak opposition from the Republican Party. Why wasn´t there an investigation of the IRS when they started targeting conservatives? What happened to the fast and furious investigation?

Gowdy and Cruz are excellent but need a lot more of them.

He´s stupid if he thinks we´ll be fooled.

He´s smart enough to insulate himself from all of the controversy.

ValJar is running the country anyway, when are we going to turn up the pressure on HER?

Great article, but so what? Still today, more than 50 percent of the US population would probably vote for BO. Not to mention probably 80 percent of Europeans if they could vote. The opposition party must present a better alternative and persuade a majority of the voting public to vote for them. With better ideas and a long term vision for the good of the country and real opportunity for those who want it.

One side cannot declare a war over without the cooperation of the other side and clearly the Islamists are the aggressors and aren´t cooperating. If you declare a war is over while you are under attack you are not just stupid, you are a blithering idiot and ultimately the loser (or perhaps, as some have suggested, you´re on the other side).

Blithering idiot or traitor . . . not good choices.

I don´t use the word stupid to describe Barry. I prefer the politically incorrect word that starts with R and ends with ED that means being incapable of learning past a certain point (hmmm ... ED ... now I´m once again thinking about that article about Obama´s shrinking unit .. Go Away!). Clearly the man is incabaple of learning that all the nonsense that his mother, grandparents, and Frank Marshall stuffed into his head is dead wrong, and he is doomed to keep making stupid mistakes because of it. Try as he might, his repetition of what he was taught never yields a different result. Since he can´t learn from his mistakes, that makes him r-----ed.

I am grateful for George W. Bush who showed our Muslim enemies that we would take Baghdad, the ancient capital of the Caliphate, if they messed with US. The law Hussein wants to end gave the Muslim world the lesson they richly deserved. Now they are fighting among each other and bleeding themselves white. Hussein Obama is anti-American but he will not be able to fix the crumbling Muslim civilization. G. W. Bush was a great President.

It is no problem at all to write a (pseudo-)random number generator that returns only negative numbers. Indeed, C´s standard rand() returns only positive numbers (let´s not argue about zero), putting a minus sign in front is all that´s necessary.

Writing an Obama which errors always to the Left is so simple it´s stupid.

One can call Leftists and their programs stupid and be in the general ball park of the truth, but matters are more complex than simple stupidity. It is certainly stupid to deny reality, yet that is what Leftists persistently attempt to do. Leftist fantasy ideology is the denial of reality by means of words and ideas. Every single Leftist political idea is an attempt to deny or circumvent reality. Thus when Obama talks about ending the war on terror and how our enemies have all but been defeated, he is simply doing what Leftists always do, substituting fantasy and wishful thinking for reality. Political correctness, "diversity," affirmative action(i.e. quotas for minorities), multiculturalism and all of the other usual suspects are Leftist fantasies intended to take the place of reality. Reality, you see, is unfair. It is unkind. It is not compassionate. It can even be dangerous. Is reality fascist? From a certain point of view, yes. It is certainly not communist. It seems that reality is Darwinism in action. It is ironic that Leftists have claimed Darwinism as a shibboleth and article of faith yet have formulated a fantasy political ideology that is opposed to its tenets in every possible way. This is partly because the function of Darwinism for most Leftists is to serve as a Trojan Horse to destroy what remains of Christianity.

If only it was as simple as ´stupid´. However, if that was really and truly the case, it would follow that those who have continued to support and implement his policies and laws were also as stupid.

Making allowance for cultural Marxism (aka PC), the amount of stupid people in government and the press would be stupendous.

No, we must not take shallow comfort in calling evil ´stupid´. That is truly beneath the intellectual standards of intelligent people. History does not generally call tyrants and their actions stupid. Neither should we. Eyes wide open, friends.

He bragged about his laziness in Dreams and has mentioned his laziness in recent interviews.
His daily schedule runs about 2 hours on average.
He often speaks about
spending time watching ESPN and Netflix ,
when he isn´t playing basketball and golfing.
Damian Lewis , the star of Homeland told the NYT
that while attending a State Dinner
in the spring of 2012 Obama told him-
" While Michelle and the two girls go play tennis on Saturday afternoons,
I go in the Oval Office,
pretend I’m going to work, and then I switch on ‘Homeland.’
Pretend I´m going to work ????? The Commander in Chief ???
During wartime ??
Every responsible media outlet should have blared
that disgusting admission.
We don´t know anything about his grades and he often mangles the English language and history.
He called one of our Founding Fathers Jane Madison just last week.
The media often cleans up his grammar in their official transcripts.
Obama is the perfect storm of laziness, stupidity,
ignorance , narcissism, racism and anti Americanism.
The enemies of the United States couldn´t have picked a better choice.

Stupid: characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless. Actually "illogical" is a more accurate description for 0bama. But then I think that describes a "progressive". He shows his stupidity when he constantly says things that indicate he thinks WE are STUPID. CONSTANTLY, when I´m able to listen to his drivel, I shake my head and say "Just how stupid do you think I am?" It´s way past time for the press to state the obvious. of course, obozo is ignorant, lazy and maybe even stupid. But his puppet masters are smart. If you average today´s posts it is obvious that we know that! (btw, I am not a big fan of Bush and Romney)
The answer - the power of propaganda! And conservatives in general, and repubics in particular underestimate this power. They didn´t learn the lessons of fascism and communism. On the other hand, hitler, stalin and alinsky and our leftists did!
You expect any change? Not until there will be conservative mainstream media!

And another thing- socialism and communism (and even fascism) are far from the dust bin. If anything, there are far closer to conquering America under the guise of "progressivism", which seems to me to be- wait for it- neo-Marxism.

Barack Hussein Obama (or Steve Dunham Marshall, if you prefer) and Islamofascism are a perfect, and perfectly toxic, combination. And now that we’re up against it, we must defeat it. Whatever it takes.

Sending scores of armed agents along with helicopters and dogs to confront an elderly Nevada rancher over grazing fees may seem like overkill, but critics say it’s not inconsistent with the federal government’s recent approach to environmental enforcement. The simmering truce between the Bundys and the Bureau of Land Management comes after high-profile raids last year by armed federal agents on small-time gold miners in tiny Chicken, Alaska, and guitar makers at the Gibson Guitar facilities in Tennessee. That doesn’t include more subtle threats, such as recent efforts by the Obama administration to raise grazing fees or pressure

Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) is among the Democrats pressing Congress to take up immigration reform. On Tuesday, he told a conference call that deportations are breaking families apart and leaving children in foster care. "So the human toll has been horrific. This president, by implementation of existing law, has been forced to deport a huge number of Americans." Although Garcia may consider the deportees to be "Americans," legally they are not. But they might become citizens if Garcia and other immigration advocates get their way. Democrats are urging Republicans to sign their discharge petition, which would force a House vote on

Key members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform expressed outrage at revelations made in newly released emails showing ex-IRS official Lois Lerner coordinating with the Department of Justice on prosecuting nonprofit groups. Thank God for Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George. His investigation of what turned out to be the IRS abuse scandal may well have saved the Constitution and the nation. For his fair and impartial investigation into the Internal Revenue Service’s abuse of Americans who dissent from President Obama’s agenda, Democrats have called for an investigation of him. George should not be investigated, but perhaps the Democrats who want him investigated — Reps. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Matt Cartwright (D-PA) — should be. Their call for an investigation of the investigator might constitute interference with the ongoing investigation

The announcement of new enrollment figures was also expected separately on Thursday. It is possible Obama could reveal the numbers before one of the two meetings. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Less than a minute into his speech at the Boston marathon bombing memorial on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden went tragically off script and told the crowd of Boston bombing survivors that "it was worth it." After expressing how impressed he was with the tribute, he said somberly, "let me say to those ´quote survivors,´ my God, you have survived and you have soared. It was worth it. I mean this sincerely - just to hear each of you speak. You´re truly, truly inspiring." The audience sat in stunned silence until Biden declared, "I´ve never heard anything so beautiful than

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

Hank Aaron’s recent comments about the need for America to realize that racism is still very much alive and thriving — only now due to those who wear “neckties and starched shirts” rather than KKK hoods — has sparked an angry backlash and many fans are turning the tables, calling the baseball legend himself a racist. “Hank Aaron is a s*****g piece of [expletive] [racial slur],” one man said in an email to the Atlanta Braves’ front office, one of the teams Mr. Aaron used to play for, CBS News reported. “My old man instilled in my mind from a

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it

Funny question in the headline, yes? But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists´ improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event. Well, no. And yes. No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K

When President Obama needed a preacher to fulfill the closing prayer duties at the annual White House Easter Prayer Breakfast, he turned to none other than the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop — who said he was as shocked as anyone at the appointment. The Right Rev. Gene Robinson said in a tweet, accompanied by a photo of Mr. Obama behind a podium at the event: “POTUS ‘preaches’ at the Easter prayer breakfast. Then, out of the blue, asks ME to close with prayer. OMG!” Newsmax said he also emphasized that the words he chose to close the breakfast
