Lois Lerner´s Brief And
Awful Day On Capitol Hill

NPR, by Frank James

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 5/22/2013 10:21:38 PM

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

FTA: "Only a person lacking a sense of honor and integrity would cling to their job in the face of the horrendous damage caused to the agency they work for, to her superiors and to the welfare of the Republic if her mistakes prompt even more IRS budget cuts.

That´s the bottom line? The IRS might face budget cuts?

I think the next obama official who says they know nothing, loses their job and is not allowed back on the public payroll. It is evident that if they know nothing, they haven´t been doing their job or are extraneous and, therefore, not needed. If they have been on the public feeding trough payroll for years, and still know nothing, they have been stealing our money and should be banished from government jobs.

According to Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs, Lois Lerner " was a former FEC tyrant terrorizing conservative and Christian Groups while refusing to pursue Obama´s illegal and foreign contributions". The story is here:

If Lois Lerner is more qualified than most IRS executives, it is time to deep six the whole program. The only downside: all those unqualified bozos will then be on the public dole, lining up for their obamaphones.

Chairman Issa needs to look beyond Lois Lerner. There are/were many layers of "management" overseeing those "rogue low level employees" in Cincinnati. Everyone of them should be compelled to testify and asked: you´re a manager - what did you manage? And when they reply - I had no idea, then Issa needs to ask: so what have you been getting paid for?

And Shulman has 100+ visits to the White House? Obama new exactly what was going on - he´s been making snide and threatening comments about his political enemies for years.

This woman is hiding behind the Fifth amendment for her protection. Ironic, isn´t it, how she is using the Constitution at this point in her life? In the past she has done about everything possible in her realm to deny First amendment rights to Christian, Tea Party, or any group whom she decides to target.

2 references particularly caught my attention during the hearings...in response to a question about firing IRS employees, and then later, a question about why Lerner or Paz from the DC staff sat in on every IG interview of IRS employees, the responder cited LABOR UNION rules...we tend to forget that many federal workers are unionized...time to take FDR´s stance and end unions at least at the federal level...

Her primary problem is that she fits to a tee what we see as the typical Washington bureaucrat; a lifelong political hack that has spent her entire career boot licking a higher up that has brought her along due to her willingness to use her position for political goals. She looks the part, acts the part and sounds like the part.

She is the perfect poster, affirmative action person. Not a sympathetic figure.

These ´partners in crime´ have a lot of nerve. They´re arrogant, smug and unapologetic (just doing what the boss "BHO" wanted).

As for Shulman - that´s a hell of a lot of Easter eggs.

Even when the IRS is playing by the rules (in the years before this corrupt administration, for sure), most of us tend to quiver and duck at the mention of the IRS. Very intimidating even under normal circumstances. They must really enjoy it too.

Lois Lerner earners around $185,000/yr at the IRS. Her husband is a tax attorney and partner in an Atlanta law firm which hosted a "Voter Registration Event" for Obama in it´s Atlanta Offices, and one of the other partners in the firm was appointed by Obama to be Ambassador to Singapore. Lerner spear-headed efforts in her previous job to restrict voting efforts among Coservative Christian groups in the past, and did such good job she got promoted to run the Exempt Charitable Bureau of the IRS. And we are supposed to believe this didn´t come straight from the WH? What is even more stupifying is that she apparently really believed that by planting the question at the ABA conference she was going to make this all just go away! Talk about living in LaLa Land! And WHERE are the media staking out her family residence, as they always did during the 2000s?

Andy McCarthy has an excellent article in NRO from a lawyer´s perspective. One problem we need to address is to give Issa some heavyweight legal advice to handle this "I´m only testifying if it makes me look good" stunt that was pulled yesterday. Issa needs to step up his game to do this investigation effectively.

Exactly right - no immunity - she will only lie!!!! Charge her with 100 cases (however many organizations were affected)and put her in jail for 30 years for just 1 case. Make sure there is no bail as she is being tried. If she gets pardoned, repeat on the next case until we have a president who will not pardon her. Make the next people think twice before lying thinking that they won´t get prosecuted or that they will be pardoned.

We have been watching the hearings - both House and Senate - on the IRS scandal.

At the close of yesterday´s hearing, Chairman Darrell Issa announced that Lois Lerner appeared to have waived her Fifth Amendment right by making her opening statement and verifying the transcript of oral testimony she had previously given.

Issa said she would probably be back.

The stunned look that flashed across the feckless Shulman´s face was obvious. He looked downright afraid. Lois holds the key.

Issa is very strong and has plenty of good legal advice.

Andrew McCarthy is good, but he isn´t the only game in town. Nor is his opinion carved on a stone tablet somewhere.

Issa is doing very, very well.

A luc poster stated on May 22 that the Fifth is only for American citizens being questioned by government, not gov employees being questioned by gov. I did some digging and found this link below. If my interpretation is correct, it says that use of the fifth can be only used when a grand jury is involved and the grand jury aspect was never applied to state government. So perhaps beyond Lerner´s technical foul up the fifth would not apply in her case anyway? So she basically admitted that she has something to hide and now no protection?

"The Grand Jury Clause of the Fifth Amendment has not been made applicable to state governments."

In reply to Poster #36. Gowdy is very good and a sharp guy with a prosecutor´s "go for the throat" instinct. McCarthy raises points which underscore the absolute need for a lawyer to be prepared. The fact that there may be a gazillion lawyers on the panel does absolutely nothing to enhance an investigation unless they have prepared in advance. The unprepared lawyer(s) makes things infinitely worse by muddling the record. Issa knew in advance that Lerner was taking the 5th, so there was no excuse to allow the conundrum which McCarthy ably points out.

#47, I concur with #36...Issa was masterful...Lerner notified the committee she would take the fifth the nite before and it was leaked...when he intro´d her he NOTED that she did NOT submit a written statement, and then asked her is she had an opening comment...Lerner stepped into the trap by giving one, and then by answering another question authenticating earlier testimony...staff knew at least the nite before Lerner had NYC criminal attys and not attys familiar with Congressional testimony and how the DC federal courts have ruled on previous invocations of the fifth! Stunning! Look for her to have new counsel at the next hearing, still try claim the fifth, and for the Capitol Police to frog march her out subject to contempt of Congress...

I´m sorry, but they have had this scandal in the can for two years, ready to use at any time. They could have released any of this in 2011, but they held it in reserve.

When the 9/11 timeline, Obama´s whereabouts on 9/11, the local military order in Tropoli to stand down, internal State whistleblowers, and the names of other people to call as witnesses to follow up on were looking like some real information on Benghazi might come out, they send Lois Lerner out to bite the head off a live chicken at an ABA conference. Sure, the IRS scandal is bad, but its timing is a deliberate distraction from Benghazi. That is where the real treachery is buried.

She´s nothing more than an incompetent political hack. I heard a big Government apologist say with a straight face that she was terribly underpaid at $185,000 a year plus bonuses, and that she would be paid North of $500,000 a year for the same responsibility in the private sector. I´m a retired VP in a Fortune 500 company, and, trust me, this hack wouldn´t last five minutes in the private sector where you actually have to contribute something to the bottom line. Lois is the poster child for the Obama administration which is corrupt to the core. Everybody knows it.

Respectfully, #50, there was a great deal of preparation before the hearing, and in this case, I believe, prep for a response to each move Lerner and counsel could likely take...notice how seldom members on our side ask the same question but some times appear to piggyback on earlier questions and answers? That´s all a result of prep and determining which member will follow what line of questioning...the two clear-eyed and focused "high steppers" I enjoy the most are the young Turks Rep. Jason Chaffetz and Rep. Trey Gowdy...Gowdy is my man and reminds me of a young Fred Thompson of the Watergate hearing days...if there is ever a Joint House/Senate Select Committee covering either Benghazi or the IRS scandals, these two must be members regardless of seniority....

I don´t care in the least if she is a competent person. Ultimately, she works for the People of the United States and she owes us her candor. She claims innocence but SHE doesn´t get to make that decision. And she certainly shouldn´t be placing political loyalty above proper care of the People´s trust. If she is an honest and good employee of the People she should be dismayed at the outrageous behavior carried out under her watch. The lack of distress over the situation, her arrogance, speaks clearly that her moral compass is badly broken. Fire her and prosecute her to the full extent possible. The message to federal employees should be that when you are asked questions about your job you owe full and honest answers. If you refuse, the full weight of the law will fall on you. If you cooperate, you may be given some tolerance if you made bad choices.

Let me repeat my rant: yesterday the guy who was sitting for Mark Levin was telling the story of Lerner´s job while on Fed´s Election Commission. It was in 1997 or whereabouts. Absolutely horrendous persecution of Christian organizations. If I remember correctly she was promoted multiple times when repubics were in complete control of the government - 2001-2006.
Ha!!! What can we expect - the commies/fascists change their ways? They will choke us to death! We don´t have the media, public education, entertainment and banking system. The lame (may I write it in capital letters) LAME repubics are not representing Americans. I am of the opinion that we need real conservative common sense party. So, we lose next elections? Repubics are of no help anyway!

On Tuesday morning, a plane owned in trust by the Bank of Utah showed up in a very visible area of the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What was it doing there exactly? Nobody knows, reports The New York Times. Under President Barack Obama, the United States has eased some of the long-standing punitive economic sanctions against Iran. Still, very little American — or European — economic activity is allowed inside the religious theocracy. The Bank of Utah is certainly no Wells Fargo. The Ogden-based community bank has all of 13 branches including

´Do you fancy jumping in the back?´ These were Prince William´s smooth words to Kate as the pair inspected the Super Hornets at Amberley Air Base shortly after touching down in Brisbane this morning. The pair is touring No 1 Squadron at the base - which is the first Super Hornet squadron outside the US. It´s a plane William won´t have flown himself in the UK - but he wasted no time stepping into the flight seat, while Kate watched on. He then stepped into the back seat - where the weapons are controlled, allowing Kate to take the pilot´s

MOKPO/JINDO, South Korea — Divers searching for survivors of a capsized South Korean ferry saw three bodies floating through a window of a passenger cabin on Saturday but were unable to retrieve them, the coastguard said, hours after the ship´s captain was arrested. The ferry, carrying 476 passengers, many of them schoolchildren, and crew, capsized on Wednesday on a journey from the port of Incheon to the southern holiday island of Jeju. Some 174 people have been rescued and hopes were fading for those still missing. The divers saw the bodies in a submerged cabin where many of the children

With the Chicago weather finally getting a little nicer, Chris Anderssen wanted to grill some burgers outside for a group of family and friends. When she got to the meat aisle at her local Jewel-Osco supermarket, a case of sticker shock made her change the menu: extra lean ground beef was $4.99 a pound. "Five adults, four teenagers, that´s a lot of hamburger to buy," said Anderssen, a 42-year-old mother of two who works as an office manager. She bought chicken instead for $2.99 a pound. Retail beef and pork prices reached all-time highs last month, according to Bill Hahn, agricultural

TOPEKA, Kan. — If expanding the guest list to include Michelle Obama at graduation for high school students in the Kansas capital city means fewer seats for friends and family, some students and their parents would prefer the first lady not attend. A furor over what the Topeka school district considers an honor has erupted after plans were announced for Obama to address a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools next month an 8,000-seat arena. For some, it was the prospect of a tight limit on the number of seats allotted to each graduate. For others, it was

Is Harry Reid unpopular enough to become an election issue for races nationally? A GOP incumbent in North Carolina is trying to find out. Stuart Rothenberg reports in his Roll Call blog: The 30-second spot, titled “Meddling,” accuses Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., of “trying to fool Republican voters, meddling in our primary to get a weak opponent for Kay Hagan.” (Video) The North Carolina Senate race is rated Toss-up/Tilt Democrat by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call, in part, because of uncertainty in the GOP primary.

Some advice for Democratic candidates from consultants: Don´t use the word "recovery" in your speeches. Associated Press: Election-year memo to Democratic candidates: Don´t talk about the economic recovery. It´s a political loser. So say Democratic strategists in a blunt declaration that such talk skips over "how much trouble people are in, and doesn´t convince them that policymakers really understand or are even focusing on the problems they continue to face." In addition, Stan Greenberg, James Carville and others wrote that in head-to-head polling tests the mere mention of the word "recovery" is trumped by a Republican assertion

Atlanta Braves legend Hank Aaron is reportedly "upset" and "bitter" because he feels that readers -- not the reporter who wrote the story -- took his comments that implied those who opposed President Barack Obama´s policies now wear "neckties and starched shirts" instead of KKK hoods out of context. And the reporter who wrote the story is claiming Aaron should not have to apologize for something he never said because Aaron was talking about CEOs, American society, and corporate America and not referring to a political party. Last week, in a story that appeared the day before Aaron was honored

President Obama on Friday signed into law a bill authored by Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz that would bar an Iranian diplomat from entering the United States, but immediately issued a statement saying he won´t enforce it. Obama decided to treat the law as mere advice. "Acts of espionage and terrorism against the United States and our allies are unquestionably problems of the utmost gravity, and I share the Congress´s concern that individuals who have engaged in such activity may use the cover of diplomacy to gain access to our Nation," Obama said in his signing statement.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.

Remember when Lois Lerner, in answering a planted question at an American Bar Association conference, admitted the IRS had targeted conservative groups but tried to pass it off as the work of rogue agents — “our line people in Cincinnati”? Today we know there were indeed federal agents involved. But they weren’t rogue, and they weren’t confined to IRS workers in Cincinnati. Thanks to a Freedom of Information request by Judicial Watch, we now have an e-mail Lerner sent to colleagues noting the Department of Justice was looking into criminal prosecutions of these tax-exempt groups. We know something else, too. These investigations
