Benghazi´s smoking guns
Los Angeles Times, by Jonah Goldberg

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 5/14/2013 12:03:29 AM

President Obama was asked about the metastasizing Benghazi scandal in a joint news conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday. Referring to the Americans who died in Benghazi, the president said, "We dishonor them when we turn things like this into a political circus." He added that "the whole issue of talking points, throughout this process, frankly, has been a sideshow.… There´s no there there." He´s half right. The talking points drafted by the State Department, the CIA and the White House and given to congressional Republicans and, most famously, to U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice

Nixon: "I am not a crook".

Obama: "the whole issue of talking points, throughout this process, frankly, has been a sideshow.… There´s no there there."

Everything old is new again. Benghazi lying, IRS targets political opponents of the president, FBI collects Associated Press telephone records for months.

Nixon was impeached for this type of activity. Obama makes Nixon look like a piker. The Chicago on the Potomac attitude that has pervaded this administration is coming home to roost.

There is another smoking gun here. It is the glaring fact that Obama is remaining in office. Democrats know they can get away with murder (take that, as you will, literally or figuratively) and receive nothing more than a limp wrist slap, while Republicans are given the full media colonoscopy, disgraced and/or driven out of office for 0.001% of the behavior a Democrat is permitted (by the law or by the MSM). And the reason that gun is smoking is because Republicans allow it to smoke. So unearthly afraid are they to speak the truth about the socialist, anti-America Democrats - truths that would ensure Democrats never got elected in the first place - that they are willing to impale themselves at each unfolding scandal. Republicans know that had the name Bush presided over this deadly Benghazi circus and cover-up, it would be Watergate II with fireworks, and only over when the "Impeached!!!" headline was firmly in place on the front pages of every court eunuch newspaper in the world. Yet, they are going to let Dear Leader and Miss Hillary slide off the hook once again. And only because, ultimately, Republicans refuse to tell the truth about who these people are and what they really intend.

´´As Washington Examiner columnist Byron York notes, the Republican obsession with the smoking gun stems from the fact that ´they are captive to the Washington mind-set that the coverup is always worse than the crime.´ ´´ How can they be so easily distracted from ´´the crime´´ when it led to the death of those people?!

And HE didn´t turn this into a political circus for his election, to begin with ???

The pot calling the kettle black......He must be getting Hillary´s memory !!!!

Clinton "told grieving family members of the fallen that the U.S. would track down the makers of the video. And, so far, the only person connected with the whole incident who has been punished is the filmmaker, who continues to languish in jail, admittedly on unrelated charges."

Truly pathetic!

Funny, "there´s no there there" is what I said about Barack Obama when he was running for office in 2008.

First, Obama had a prearrangement with that girl reporter from AP. She asked a garbled set of questions - five in all - that represented a data dump in a way, since white house press corps members seem not to ask follow up questions.
Second, there was such a stark comparison to be made between the prime minister and our president. One was clear, articulate, precise, demonstrating an understanding of complex issues. The other was inarticulate, tired looking, (reggie must have kept barack up the night before) demonstrating no grasp of even relatively simple issues.
Historians, even the liberal ones, will ponder the mess known as barack Hussein Obama for centuries to come, and wondere how it happened.
And when barack said that there is no there there (a line from the Clinton administration) I was reminded of the Peter Sellers movie (his final one) titled Being There. The intent of the movie was to mock republicans, but democrats can be mocked just as easily. And remember that Chance the Gardener was desirable as a candidate, because he had no background, no birth certificate, and he spoke in what his handlers believed were parables.

The talking points are a red herring to keep people from focusing on why the administration refused to allow rescuers to go after the ambassador and his team. After the fact, whether there were 2 hours before they were killed or 2 days, at the time, no one knew. The only known was they needed help....and help was refused. WHY?!

#1, Richard Nixon was not impeached. Articles of Impeachment were drawn up, but Nixon resigned before they were enacted. Your major point is correct, however. Watergate had nothing on the Benghazi story. I hope the press begins paying more attention before we uncover the real reason the ambassador was in Benghazi. I´m a fan of the CIA gun-running theory.

Right #7, that was an unusually long list of questions by that reporter: If it was prearranged, Obama still looked quite perturbed and even scratched his right eye with his middle finger, again. Reggie-"sleep" in the eye again no doubt as mentioned above, lol.

I am wary because so many scandals are surfacing at once. Don´t misunderstand me, they are all well deserved, but how that IRS thing popped up just when Benghazi was heating up is suspect to me. Think maybe this administration would rather fight the IRS thing than Benghazi? After all, the IRS would be much easier to manage and less messy than the deaths of four Americans. Explaining why four Americans were left to die and previous requests for additional security were denied is tricky even for Obama. Targeting conservatives? Well, now anyone can understand why you would need to do that. Looks like Obama is willing to take the hit on the IRS to prevent every aspect of the truth being revealed on Benghazi.

Zippy thinks that he can skate on the IRS scandal. He knows that he can´t on Benghazi and is trying to shut it down before the truth gets out.

As I said yesterday - isn´t it interesting that his level of outrage over the IRS is the same as it was over the video? Methinks he doth protest too much.

I´ve wondered since the beginning why our State Dept and White House didn´t do the simple thing and save our Embassy personnel? Politically, so close to the election it seems like a no-brainer...save them, put down a terror attack on 9/11 and let Obama take full credit (his favorite MO). So why not? Unless, unless there was more to the story, something along the lines of Iran-Contra, like the SoS was selling guns directly to the rebels who ended up being full blown terrorists...Iran-Contra w/4 dead Americans including our ambassador. I have a hunch there´s a lot more to the story.

Is it just me or does anyone else sense a subtle shift, a nervousness on the part of Democrats that their guy may really, really be a dangerous empty suit they don´t want to be saddled with come the midterms?

Given O´s distinct incompetence on every level, and now his very dangerous attitudes about protecting Americans and America, do they really want this albatross around their necks?

What if Obama, during the 5 pm prescheduled meeting at the White House with SecDef Pannetta and Chief of Staff Dempsey, when they learned about the the Benghazi attack on Ambassador Stevens, he told the two that under no circumstances were the In Extremis forces or anyone else to go to the aid of Stevens?

Possible reason - fear of a botched rescue attempt like Carter had in Iran?

Confidence Man Extraordinaire Barack Hussein Obama has yet to be confronted with the question, “Who gave the order to Stand Down?” I’m absolutely positive he already has his answer, as he would a handgun at his hip, at the ready. After eight long months, the unasked “Stand Down” question has comparably evolved into an unmentionable substance of nastiness in the proverbial punchbowl.

Precisely when, I wonder, did The Oval Office become The Loo?

#8 I´m with you. The talking points are a Montgomery Ward catalog in an outhouse. Why were 4 Americans serving their country left to die in a brutal attack ? Even if it were due to the administrations made up excuse of an anti-Islam film who determined they were expendable? Under any set of circumstances an attempt should have been made to rescue them. We are Americans, that´s what we do. Sadly I don´t believe there are any Americans in this administration.

4 Americans were sacrificed in Benghazi so that Obama´s campaign did not get a black eye.

What is the cutoff? How many would he let die to avoid an awkward press conference? 40? 400? 4000?

I agree there is more to the story, No. 21 but I don´t think it has anything to do with guns. For some reason, Obama and Hillary did not want armed Americans going in and disrupting what was going on. They did not seem to have any fear of what was going on. What did they think they knew?

A blogger named “obamas1goodyear” over on National Review made a great point about "it happened so long ago":

OK. There´s only one multi-part question which requires asking and DEMANDS an answer - - -

Where was Zippy from 5pm on September 11th until he got on the plane to Vegas on September 12th - - who was he with - - and what was he doing?

Do not ask any other questions except that one. Don´t be distracted by dust-throwing, ink-squirting, or dead herrings.

"But the true core of this story has nothing to do with media vanity or talking points — or a political circus. The real issue is that for reasons yet to be determined — politics? ideology? incompetence? all three? — the administration was unprepared for an attack on Sept. 11, of all dates. When the attack came, they essentially did nothing as our own people were begging for help — other than to tell those begging to help that they must "stand down."
This is exactly right and even more, what was Chris Stevens really doing in Benghazi to begin with. Was he running guns to al Qaeda? Was he trying to stop the gun running to al Qaeda. What was the purpose of that safe house? And placing this in the policy realm, from Nixon on there was a consistent policy toward Libya that finally produced results in 2003. Why did we conspire with the French to overthrow Khadafy?

This regime made it political on day one when they knowingly lied about the facts, impugned a private citizen and the people of Lybia in an effort to subvert the electoral process and win re-election.

Plain and simple.

Because I view the cover-up differntly, I see the cover-up as worse than the crime. The deaths of 4 men were blamed on something else, just so Obama could be re-elected.

On January 7, 2012, after the first break in the Republican presidential debate, George Stephanopoulos led the next segment with a question out of left field for Romney about whether states could ban contraception. Everyone thought Stephanopoulos had lost his mind. For days everyone was speculating as to what in the world he was thinking.

Then on January 20 HHS announced the requirement that all health plans cover contraceptives. The administration’s war against the Catholic Church was begun, and the Republican War On Women campaign narrative was launched simultaneously for air cover.

On September 11, 2012, at 6 am ET, the US embassy in Cairo issued an apology for a video no one had ever seen or heard of. At 11 am ET, 5 hours later, crowds began forming outside the Cairo embassy for a “spontaneous” demonstration. The next day, September 12, General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the joint chiefs, telephoned a Florida minister to “ask him to withdraw his support for the video” and issued a press release about it, thereby linking up the video to conservative American Christians. For the following weeks Obama and his minions were all over the place pushing the video narrative, tarring conservative Christians as just a bunch of haters.

We all know by now (right? Just google it!) that certain hard left friends of Obama and other high muckety mucks in the American left were in Cairo in January, 2010, to help organize protests and demonstrations there. It’s documented. So … what about Cairo, September 11, 2012? Spontaneous? Out of left field like the contraception question? Or did it set up an administration war against the Christian right?

Government, of course, is responsible for what it does. And bank robbers are responsible for theft. Even if the guard is asleep on the job.

But the sleeping guard does not escape responsibility for failing in his duties simply because others break the law.

Likewise, crooked politicians will always be with us. And media have the responsibility of policing government. Like the bank guard, they have been asleep on the job and however wrong Obama and his henchmen might be, media let them in the door and sat by blindly while the they robbed us of our liberty.

#8 is right. Why? I don´t think they could have dared risk several dozen dead Americans just before the election, so the only conclusion I can come to is the administration knew what was supposed to happen in Benghazi by agreement with the Muslim Brotherhood. I think this is potentially bigger than any scandal in American presidential history.

There is so much facing this administration because of its ineptitude and loathing for all things American, from our Constitution to us.
They all need to be pursued (crimes) and prosecuted (barry, hill, brennan, carney, rice, jarrett, et al).
I am waiting for General Patraeus to step forward on what he knows. The administration has already done what they could to destroy him, so he has nothing to lose.

Jonah beautifully writes various scenarios and maybe misses the bigger truth. They are in it together. One protects the other.
They agreed to ignore the attack, they agreed to throw out a video distraction, they agreed to confuse, delay, obfuscate.
Lord Obt knows how Hillary lied again and again to protect Willie and HERSELF. Here,
she does it again. Obie can rely on her to lie until the end of time. The horrifying
thing is their conspiracy with each other.
As the strategic brains of Slick Willie, she
was, in every way, a partner. It was common
talk. She was Rommel. He was the troops.
What do we have in Hilary? We have a woman
who wants to run for president, who has already been impeached. She qualified and suffered it un-officially. She is a once impeached-in-spirit, practiced, veteran obfuscator of truth. Re-think the old list,
called Friends of Bill, of over 125 Clinton associates who died prematurely or violently
Re-think, more appropriate, now call it:
The Friends of Hillary and Bill.

The really curious part of this story is the 30 Benghazi survivors. Why haven´t we heard anything from them? You´d think at least one member of the media would have had enough curiosity to learn from an eyewitness what really happened there.

I´d like to focus on one outrageous aspect to Benghazi...others have mentioned it. It is the intentional incarceration of an innocent man(the man who made the anti-Islamic video that Hillary, obama, and Susan Rice lied about being the cause of the "demonstration") to cover up the wrongdoing of the really guilty parties, namely Hillary Clinton obama, Susan Rice, etc. By the way, is this innocent person still in jail??

If Hillary was OK with putting this innocent guy in jail, knowing he was innocent, but using him as a scapegoat to cover up her wrongdoing, then we should begin with having Hillary put in prison for at least as long as this guy has been incarcerated. (And not in a special prison, just one of the regular prisons, and have her put in with the regular prison population). That seems like a good place to begin for Hillary (and the rest of them, too, for that matter).

Bill Clinton was impeached in the House but acquitted in Senate. That´s how it works. Some of you people need to inform yourselves.

Bingo, #8. Imagine had Mayor Giulani ordered the fire department to stand down rather than enter the burning towers. That was their job. Succeed or fail, that was what they all signed up to do. Why would any president or any member of his administration not at least attempt to save his ambassador and staff? No political good could come from such a decision. Yet it was made. The stand-down order was given twice. Twice. For reasons not yet known, saving the ambassador was worse than letting him die. Think about that. And worry.

Amy Kremer, one of the original Tea Party activists who participated in the February 20, 2009 call that launched the movement and played a key role as scheduler of the April 15, 2009 Tax Day Tea Party rallies, resigned on Friday as chairman of Tea Party Express, a position which she has held since the summer of 2009. Tea Party Express, a political action committee known for its national bus tours, was one of the first national organizations to successfully raise money through appeals to Tea Party supporters and activists. The group played a significant role in helping Tea Party

President Obama on Friday signed into law a bill authored by Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz that would bar an Iranian diplomat from entering the United States, but immediately issued a statement saying he won´t enforce it. Obama decided to treat the law as mere advice. "Acts of espionage and terrorism against the United States and our allies are unquestionably problems of the utmost gravity, and I share the Congress´s concern that individuals who have engaged in such activity may use the cover of diplomacy to gain access to our Nation," Obama said in his signing statement.

IJReview writer Kira Davis made the following post on her Facebook page earlier today: (FB entry) Many progressives often try to pit science against religion, but this excerpt from Dr. Carson’s latest piece at American CurrentSee gives a little more insight into how many Christians view science with respect to religion. In many ways, Carson echoes Einstein’s famous quote: “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” Do you agree with Carson?

It’s Good Friday. Time for the leftwing president to do something bad. Barack Obama just punted on the Keystone Pipeline, again, and some Democrats say they are angry at him. The Obama administration once again has punted on a final decision for the Keystone XL pipeline, announcing ahead of the holiday weekend it is extending a key review period indefinitely — a move that could push off a determination until after the midterm elections. Republicans, as well as red-state Democrats who want the proposed Canada-to-Texas pipeline approved, slammed the administration for the delay. Democrats even threatened to find ways to

A church in Grapevine, Texas, is getting into the Easter spirit this week by creating a giant chalk-portrait of Jesus Christ in their parking lot. Fellowship Church is led by Pastor Ed Young, who started the evangelical Christian church in 1990 with about 150 people in Irving. They now have 10 church campuses worldwide. His father is Dr. Ed Young, the head of Second Baptist here in Houston. According to church spokesman Andy Boyd, the 17,000-square-foot drawing of the face of Jesus took 700 volunteers over 9,100 man-hours to create. They also used 6,700 individual pieces of chalk and 125

The Obama administration is extending the agency review period for the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline, potentially delaying the decision until after the November elections -- sparing President Obama a tough political decision in the process. A senior State Department official said agencies have stopped crafting comments because a Nebraska Supreme Court decision could change the pipeline route and, ultimately, the environmental, socioeconomic and cultural factors that went into the environmental review. The official did not directly answer a question whether an altered pipeline route would require a new environmental review.

One day after making an audio appearance on RT to ask Vladimir Putin about Russian surveillance operations, National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden authored a Guardian column to clarify his intentions behind the question and push back on critics who suggest he was attempting to help whitewash the Russian president’s abuses. “Does Russia intercept, analyse or store millions of individuals’ communications?” Snowden asked Putin on Thursday, garnering a denial from Putin that included the statement: “We don’t have mass system of such interception. And according to our law it cannot exist.” Critics alleged that Snowden appeared in a scripted manner,

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.
