Posted By:PageTurner, 4/24/2013 6:02:29 PM

Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, the Archbishop of Caracas, on Tuesday urged authorities to stop "immediately" the persecution of civil servants supporting the opposition and called on the parties to overcome the political crisis Venezuela is facing. "That must stop immediately; it must cease straight away," Urosa told radio station Unión Radio as he referred to reports of persecution and harassment against civil servants and dissenters by pro-government sectors. The reports have been filed by human rights and political organizations recently.

Comments:
Good luck, Cardinal. Obama isn´t going to help you.

Archaeologist Anya Shetler cleans an inscription below an ancient stucco frieze recently unearthed in the buried Maya city of Holmul in the Peten region of Guatemala. Sunlight from a tunnel entrance highlights the carved legs of a ruler sitting atop the head of a Maya mountain spirit. The enormous frieze—which measures 26 feet by nearly 7 feet (8 meters by 2 meters)—depicts human figures in a mythological setting, suggesting these may be deified rulers. It was discovered in July in the buried foundations of a rectangular pyramid in Holmul. Maya archaeologist Francisco Estrada-Belli

The blaze burned for more than four hours before officials declared it contained, and flames continued to burn two more hours after that.

Senate candidate Liz Cheney improperly received a state resident fishing license based on an application with incorrect information, according to Wyoming Game and Fish Department records. Cheney, who last month announced she will challenge Sen. Mike Enzi in the 2014 Republican primary, received her resident license just 72 days after closing on her Wilson house in May 2012. State law requires residents live in the state 365 consecutive days before they can receive a resident hunting or fishing license, which are cheaper than out-of-state licenses. Cheney’s application also lists her as a 10-year resident of Wyoming.

“IQ is a metric of such dubiousness that almost no serious educational researcher uses it anymore,” the Guardian’s Ana Marie Cox wrote back in May. It was a breathtakingly ignorant statement. Psychologist Jelte Wicherts noted in response that a search for “IQ test” in Google’s academic database yielded more than 10,000 hits — just for the year 2013. (Snip) There is a large discrepancy between what educated laypeople believe about cognitive science and what experts actually know. Journalists are steeped in the lay wisdom, so they are repeatedly surprised when someone forthrightly discusses the real science of mental ability.

Tonight, I went on Lawrence O´Donnell´s show, and Lawrence O´Donnell yelled at me. Or, rather, he O´Reilly´d at me. That O´Donnell interrupted and harangued and mansplained and was generally an angry grandpa at me is not what I take issue with, however. What bothers me is that, look: your producers take the time to find experts to come on the show, answer your questions, and, hopefully, clarify the issue at hand.

The famous Democrats have been frequent visitors to the expensive summer getaway in Long Island, and rented the same beachfront house in 2011 and 2012. One of the great scandals of the Obama administration has been its shameful designation of the Nov. 5, 2009, rampage at the Army base in Killeen, Texas, by Maj. Nidal Hasan as "workplace violence." It has only compounded the pain and suffering of the victims and their families who have now apparently been ordered to shut up about it.

I know where they’re at,” Gutiérrez said in an interview with Ed O’Keefe at The Washington Post.
