CORINTH, Miss. -- A Mississippi man accused of mailing letters with suspected ricin to national leaders believed he had uncovered a conspiracy to sell human body parts on the black market and sometimes performed as an Elvis Presley impersonator. Authorities were waiting for definitive tests on intercepted letters that were addressed to President Barack Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss. Paul Kevin Curtis, 45, was arrested Wednesday at his home in Corinth, near the Tennessee state line about 50 miles north of Presley´s birthplace in Tupelo.

I really don´t know how an average person could pack an envelope of ricin without some form of protective gear on.To say that ricin is toxic would be a gross understatement.I guess you´re supposed to conclude that since this guy is from Miss.,it has to be a redneck. It´s just a weird coincidence that this would happen in the same time frame as the marathon bomb.Similar to letters after 911.

IMO he is be set-up. To add his signature line as well as his initials to a letter just does not jive. No hazmat crews sent to check out his apartment;
FTA:"The author wrote the conspiracy that began when he "discovered a refrigerator full of dismembered body parts & organs wrapped in plastic in the morgue of the largest non-metropolitan healthcare organization in the United States of America."
Like I said, IMO someone is setting him up.

It is time to present the top prize for fraudulence in international reporting in 2013 — the annual Walter Duranty award. As Moscow bureau chief for the New York Times at the height of Joe Stalin’s reign of terror, Duranty not only reported the news, he invented it — earning the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 and wining the sobriquet of “Stalin’s apologist.” In the midst of a famine that caused millions of peasants to starve to death, he told American readers that Soviet granaries “were overflowing with grain” and that the cows were “plump and contented.” As Stalin’s favorite Western reporter,

Larry King is bracing himself for a bad trip down memory lane with the upcoming publication of “Junkman Genius,” a book about his old friend, Louis E. Wolfson. Written by Louis’ daughter Marcia and Harry Hurt III — the biographer of Donald Trump and the Hunt brothers — the book will detail how Wolfson tried to destroy King over a bad debt. Marcia told me Wednesday she hopes King will grant an interview for the book, which is now being pitched to publishers. “We get along,” she said. “We’re not on bad terms at all.” Wolfson was a boxer and a college football

News that al Qaeda is flying its flag over Fallujah this week certainly takes me back — not to Iraq, but to Vietnam. I’ve been making this point for years now, but never as well as it was made in Megyn Kelly’s interview Tuesday with Rep. Duncan Hunter of California. Hunter has unusual credibility in that he is both a congressman and a former officer of the Marines. He appeared in arms in the Battle of Fallujah in Iraq before returning home to run for Congress, where his father had long served before him. “I know,” Kelly asked him, “that a lot

The news this morning: “President Barack Obama will announce five ‘Promise Zones’ this week as part of his effort to focus on income inequality in the lead-up to his State of the Union address. On Thursday, Obama will announce the first Promise Zone locations: San Antonio, Texas; Philadelphia; Los Angeles; southeastern Kentucky and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.” The rest of the country will be designated an “Obama Broken Promise Zone.” Three of the zones are located in politically-uncompetitive areas, at least in U.S. House of Representative races. Southeastern Kentucky’s Fifth Congressional District is heavily Republican, as is Oklahoma’s Second District, which

I t would be nice to think that the strenuous efforts of our indefatigable secretary of state to jumpstart peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians have a realistic chance of success. But they don’t. The problem isn’t just that, contrary to all sense, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to expand settlement activity in the West Bank. And it isn’t only that, just as direct talks are getting under way for the first time in years, the Palestinians appear to be ramping up their charming tendency to quote Adolf Hitler admiringly in schoolroom textbooks. As the controversy surrounding Netanyahu’s demand that

Robert Gates has roiled the Beltway with perhaps the least surprising bombshells ever to appear in a tell-all Washington memoir. Did anyone believe that President Barack Obama was passionately committed to the Afghanistan war that he escalated at the same time he announced a withdrawal date? Is there anyone who thought that Hillary Clinton in 2008 calibrated her position on the Iraq War based on the state of play in Anbar province rather than the Iowa caucuses? Does anyone consider Vice President Joe Biden a thoughtful policy maven with a long history getting stuff right? Before going any further, let’s

Why You Should Forget

If you want to appreciate just how much progress America has made fighting poverty since Lyndon Johnson declared his war on it 50 years ago this week, here´s a tip: Forget the official poverty rate. Well, don´t forget it entirely. But do understand its limits. In 1964, the rate was 19 percent. Today, it´s 15 percent, which, as my colleague Derek Thompson wrote yesterday, suggests we´ve barely made a dent in economic deprivation. But for such an influential and obsessed-over number, there´s widespread agreement that the government´s standard poverty measure is deeply flawed, and it almost certainly understates how much the

Around 2007, I gave a lecture at the Defense Department. One of the attendees presented a scenario suggesting that the “problem of Islam” was not political but a problem of verbiage. There was a secret debate happening in the Defense Department and the CIA in which some people thought that all Muslims were a problem, some believed that only al-Qaeida was a problem, and still others thought the Muslim Brotherhood was a problem. The main problem, however, was that all Islamism was a political threat, but it was the second position that eventually won over the Obama administration. Take note of this;

In November, the Obama Justice Department dropped a lawsuit aimed at stopping a school voucher program in Louisiana. The Louisiana Scholarship Program is intended to give students in failing public schools a chance to attend better schools, including private ones. Justice tried to block the program on the basis that it may have violated a 1975 federal desegregation order. The case began to heat up when Republican governor Bobby Jindal, joined by some parents of students (chiefly minorities) who had benefited from the voucher program, began a defense in the courts. Justice then filed a motion contesting the parents´ standing

While honouring Emma Thompson at a dinner for the National Board of Review on Tuesday night, Meryl Streep made an extraordinary speech that criticised Walt Disney for being a "gender bigot" who was a member of an antisemitic lobbying organisation. Streep, perhaps Hollywood´s most respected and beloved actor, showed she is far from a cosy establishment figure as she carefully trod a line between praising Thompson and attacking Disney. The very film Thompson was being celebrated for, Saving Mr Banks, is based around Walt Disney´s persuading of PL Travers to allow him to adapt Mary Poppins. According to Variety´s Ramin Setoodeh,

But his harshest remarks are saved for Vice President Joe Biden. “I think he has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades,” Gates writes of the vice president. According to the White House statement, Obama “disagrees with Secretary Gates’ assessment.” Read the Obama

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The federal Environmental Protection Agency has proposed new standards for wood stoves that would reduce the maximum amount of fine particulate emissions allowed for new stoves sold in 2015 and 2019. Maximum emissions would be reduced by one-third next year and by 80 percent in five years, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported. Fine particulate pollution is made up of solid particles and liquid droplets that measure 2.5 micrometers in diameter or less. The EPA currently certifies non-catalytic wood stoves if they produce less than 7.5 grams of fine particulate per hour. Fine particulate absorbed by breathing has

Baby carrots have become a lunch box staple. Parents love them for their convenience and because they’re seen as a healthy food choice. Kids love them because they’re sweet and fun to eat. They’re perfectly shaped with rounded edges; they don’t have the same thick core; and, even peeled, they’re bright orange. And a quick Google search of baby carrots turns up some frightening information on how they’re made and whether they’re really “soaked in chlorine.” What’s up with that?
