Obama angrily denounces
gun-rights groups as willful liars

Washington Times, by Dave Boyer

Original Article

Posted By:Desert Fox, 4/17/2013 6:37:42 PM

President Obama angrily blamed the defeat Wednesday of his centerpiece gun-control proposal on lies spread by the National Rifle Association, calling it “a pretty shameful day for Washington.” “The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Mr. Obama said in the White House rose garden about 90 minutes after the vote. “It came down to politics.” As he spoke, Mr. Obama was surrounded by family members of victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. Also with him was former Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona, wounded in an assassination attempt.

The American people, now fully aware of the facts of the Newtown shootings as well as the other mass shootings we´ve suffered in recent times, saw that the proposals being offered would have done NOTHING to stop those crimes. Only some way of identifying and possibly forcibly detaining the mentally ill would have had any hope of stopping those awful events. Americans are a very calm and rational people, and the democratic process worked, Mr. President, just the way it was supposed to. No use compounding these tragedies by writing bad law.

He is flailing. Promised his peeps something, got nothing. His presidency is over, get ready for the articles about how he is already a lame duck. Dems will run against him in 2014, trying to sneak in for another term.

The risk is that a Supreme Court Justice dies. He could shift the court worse than it is now.

And he got one of the Newtown families to be his opening act before the diatribe.

Guess we may need those guns, ´cause the next step is Obama Re-education Camps.

It didn´t "come down to politics". The president made it politics by flying here and yon trash talking, using victims´ pain for his gain, and trying to ram something through that would make him look effective, rather than something that might actually solve the problem. Bad men will always be able to get guns. Always. And background checks are already the law of the land. I´m so tired of "comprehensive", gotta do it today, all or nothing "reform." Is anybody thinking anymore, or just reacting for the cameras?

He knows it´s over. He doesn´t care that it didn´t become law, he´s mad because it died it the Senate. He was hoping the House killed it so he could beat them over the head with it next year. Now he can´t, and unless he comes up with something else soon, which isn´t out there, he´s not going to see Nancy Pelosi as leader. The clock´s ticking, it´s not looking good for him, and he knows it.

No, mentally disturbed people should not have access to guns. In light of that, Obama and any other liberal should not have access to the U.S. Armed Forces. Such access is the same as handing them a gun.

Maybe try focusing on Chicago. Should be easy for a former community organizer. Do something about the gangs and the hundreds of murders before lecturing the rest of us about who is a liar. BTW, who thought up, enabled and approved Fast and Furious? Maybe #15 knows. The rodent seems to know everything about the ´connection´ between the NRA and a murdered mother of a monster. Leftists think they know the NRA, but they don´t seem to get the many messages throughout every piece of printed material the NRA releases that stresses safe, responsible, legal, firearm handling.

#15 may be correct that background checks might have stopped Jared Loughner(the Gabby Giffords shooter) and the Aurora movie theater killer, but if so, he/she is in possession of information I do not have.

I am not aware of any information released to the public that suggests any of these shootings would have been prevented by background checks.

We have absolutely no documented information to support the 20:20 hindsight claim that it was a foolish and dangerous idea to encourage Adam Lanza to target shoot as a hobby.

Lies? How about 90% of Americans blah, blah, blah. Ninety percent of Americans don´t agree on anything. America doesn´t have a gun problem. It has a violence problem. Trying to solve our violence problem by restricting guns is like trying to solve our obesity problem by outlawing forks. Gun control, so-called gay marriage, and immigration reform are just red herrings to distract people from the fact the economy is in the sewer, our foreign policy is a joke, heath care is headed for the third world, and the idiot in The White House can´t do anything but play golf, take expensive vacations on our dime, and whine.

It amazes me when someone postulates that background checks would have stopped this murder, or that murder, when guns can be easily obtained illegally WITHOUT A BACKGROUND CHECK, and frequently are.

When someone decides to commit murder, they really don´t care about gun free zones and background checks.

I´ve never seen an Obama press op / speech in it´s entirety.
This evening , I was waiting for a meeting to commence and the tv was on , so I was a captive audience.
I was stunned by Obama´s anger , petulance , juvenile name calling and complete absence
of presidential or professional behavior.
He threw a full throated tantrum in the Rose Garden .
He didn´t require a teleprompter to go on and on and on in his anger.
He burned every bridge to the Senate.
He was all over the place throwing blame and contradicting himself.
The bill wouldn´t have prevented Sandy Hook and it would have prevented Sandy Hook.
It was jaw dropping , even for Obama.

#15 “...What would have stopped Newtown would be the NRA having the guts to tell its members and supporters that look, not everybody needs to have a gun in the house. If you have a loved one living with you who is mentally unstable...then you need to figure out a way to store your guns somewhere that the mentally unstable person can never access them. Also tell folks that gun safety training can´t overcome psychosis and delusions….”

Then there is the phrase: “Personal Responsibility!” There is NEVER going to be an organization to hold every hand of every ‘mentally unstable’ person in this country. Blame the guns, blame the magazines, blame the pistol grip, blame NRA, blame the system. NEVER blame the person! NO, NO, NO!

Not everyone needs to have a gun! The ones who wet their figurative pants at the thought of one shouldn’t buy one!

NRA doesn’t say ‘everyone needs a gun.’ NRA says “if you want a gun and can pass the background checks, you should be able to buy one! That simple.

Maybe i missed it, but i didn´t see or hear about "kids" from Chicago or Detroit or any other Inner City neighborhood.

Those who want to uphold our Constitution and Bill of Rights must insist that laws already on the books be enforced. NO NEED to add new laws on top of laws upon laws which are not enforced... starting with the failure of the Top Law Enforcement Officer, Eric Holder himself.

As for Lanza (#15), this is an unusual case. He was obsessed with violent video games. His mother had become concerned,m but too late. And if you know anyone trying to get help for a mentally ill person, you understand her frustration.

Because she could not bring herself to really understand how sick her son was, she did not adequately secure those weapons.

The reality is that as long as human beings are what they are, there will be tragedies of all kinds, and wars, jealousies and greed, lies, lying and lying liars.

Enforce with gusto, the laws on the books.

#15 imagines, hilariously yet tragically, that telling someone, "No you are not allowed to have a gun" will utterly confound someone who intended to kill as many gun-free zone victims as possible before he kills himself, or the police kill him.

The worst of law-breakers, i.e., the kind we are trying to deal with here, will absolutely get a gun, or a bomb, or ricin.

Gay Anglican priest marries his

Well, that didn´t take long. As my colleague Edward Malnick reports, the first gay Church of England priest – a canon, no less – today married his boyfriend. Canon Jeremy Pemberton, 58, a divorced hospital chaplain and father of five, wed his long-term partner Laurence Cunnington, 51. We´re not told where, but obviously it wasn´t in an C of E church. That´s against the law. But they may well be able to have their marriage blessed in church because that´s only "against the rules" as opposed to illegal. Campaigners predicted that Canon Pemberton would be the first of many. I think

A mention of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), a potential 2016 presidential contender, brought boos from a conservative crowd in New Hampshire on Saturday. Speaking at the New Hampshire Freedom Summit, a gathering of conservative activists and figures organized by Americans for Prosperity and Citizens United, billionaire Donald Trump said Bush’s recent comments on immigrants coming to the U.S. as an “act of love” were “out there.” “You know, I heard Jeb Bush the other day,” he said, with quiet boos and angry murmurs erupting from the crowd at the mention of Bush’s name. “And he was talking about people that come

Liberals have lately been employing a political term of abuse that was once mainly a weapon of the right. Speaking at a Democratic fundraiser on Wednesday in Houston, President Obama described laws that he said restrict voting rights as “un-American.” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) earlier this year described conservative activist billionaires Charles and David Koch as “un-American.” And amid a rambunctious meeting of the House Oversight Committee last month, the panel´s top Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) described the conduct of his Republican counterparts led by chairman Darrell Issa (Calif.) as

A Nevada cattle rancher appears to have won his week-long battle with the federal government over a controversial cattle roundup that had led to the arrest of several protesters. Cliven Bundy went head to head with the Bureau of Land Management over the removal of hundreds of his cattle from federal land, where the government said they were grazing illegally. Bundy claims his herd of roughly 900 cattle have grazed on the land along the riverbed near Bunkerville, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, since 1870 and threatened a "range war" against the BLM on the Bundy Ranch website after one of

The departure of Kathleen Sebelius from President Barack Obama’s cabinet removes a focal point for criticism over Obamacare’s troubled rollout, right at a moment when the White House can blunt attacks with enrollment numbers that exceeded targets. Senate confirmation hearings on the president’s choice to succeed Sebelius as Health and Human Services secretary, budget director Sylvia Mathews Burwell, will give Republicans days of media exposure for their criticism of a program that remains unpopular. Those hearings will now be held months ahead of midterm congressional elections, helping diminish the impact on voters. Sebelius’s departure also addresses demands from some Democrats for a change

BUNKERVILLE -- The gathering of rancher Cliven Bundy´s cattle in northeast Clark County has been stopped by the director of the Bureau of Land Management. Bundy is meeting this morning with Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie to discuss a possible solution to his dispute with the BLM. Metro Officer Jesse Roybal confirmed that Gillespie was in the Bunkerville area this morning to meet with Bundy. The BLM had been using contract cowboys to round up Bundy´s 900 head of cattle that have been grazing over 600,000 square acres in northeast Clark County for more than 20 years without his payment of grazing fees. Hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens are getting shocking letters in their mailboxes instead of tax refund checks – nastygrams informing them that the federal government has seized their money to repay debts their parents decades-old debts that they never settled. In some cases, they´re debts the parents never knew they had. And no one warned their children. The 2008 Farm Bill included a single line that made it possible, allowing the government for the first time to hunt down individual taxpayers who have owed Uncle Sam money for more than ten years. Kelly pointed out, during a part of the interview aired on Friday, that there was an unprecedented volume of negative media coverage surrounding the bridge controversy in New Jersey. "Has this changed your view of the mainstream media?" she asked. "No, I´ve always had the same view," Christie said, pointing out that anyone can be the "flavor of the month" in the media. "But I´ve always said to my folks in the party, we don´t get anywhere complaining about it either,"

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the

Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling. That´s thanks to the letter House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp sent this week to the Justice Department recommending a criminal probe of Lois Lerner. The average citizen might be dizzied by the torrent of confusing terms—BOLO lists, Tigta, 501(c)(4)—and the array of accusations that have made up this IRS investigation. Mr. Camp´s letter takes a step back to remind us why this matters, even as it provides compelling new information that goes to motive and method—and clarifies some of

There is mainstream media-suppressed case history in Nevada the feds are desperately trying to keep under wraps. Chief Judge Robert C.
