Washington — President Barack Obama says the Senate’s opposition to a bill that would have expanded background checks for gun buyers marks a “shameful day” in Washington. He says a minority of senators decided “it wasn’t worth it” to protect the nation’s children. Obama spoke in the Rose Garden shortly after the Senate vote rejecting a bipartisan effort to expand federal background checks to more firearms buyers. (Snip) The president pinned the blame for the measures failure, though five Democrats also opposed the plan. He also said the gun lobby and its allies “willfully lied” about background check bill.
Probably the best speech he ever gave...and I´m not a fan of the President. Even the clearly Democratic press was taken aback at the approach he took in this speech.
I´ve always voted Republican, but the shrill way the Republicans handled this is going to hurt the Republican cause in 2014. Because the other side has all those screaming sound bites, all the paranoid carrying on and on. LaPierre wanting to arm everybody...but ´throw the crazies in jail´ even though they committed no crime. Investors Business Daily throwing out the ´modest proposal´ to protect the gun rights of the severely mentally ill. And on. And on.
IMHO the measure failed because many saw it as a step towards a national database. This marks a victory for the online community, the press and networks fed us nothing but "90(?)% of America wants this".......We knew better and let our elected representatives know that WE DO NOT TRUST THEM!
Gallup poll today shows that 4% - count ´em- 4% of Americans consider gun control an important problem / priority. Obama perptuated the lie about 40% of purchase aren´t checked- a canard based on a 25 year old poll of 221 people asked manipulated questions that has been debunked repeatedly. He lied about Internet purchases- it is illegal to ship a firearm to ANYONE EXCEPT a Licensed (FFL) Dealer. How do you buy something on the Internet that isn´t shipped to you? And you know what you HAVE to complete before you can take delivery? A BACKGROUND CHECK. There might be 9 to 10% of purchases that go unchecked - and those are legitimate purchases not back alley criminal transactions. THEY will NEVER be checked Or stopped. He lied about 90% of Americans want (more gun control).
Want to see a real poll? How about a website - PoliceOne- by and for law enforcement officers. Fifteen thousand VERIFIED responses. 85% AGAINST more laws/control and FOR lawfully armed citizens.
So the Father of all Lies calls republicans Liars? Priceless. Hey Barry- why did you seal all your records? Why did you lie about beginning your political career in the home of domestic terrorists and BOMBERS Bill Ayres and Bernadette Dohrn? Ayers is a frequent WH visitor - in light of Boston Marathon bombing -why is the WH hosting an unrepentant domestic terrorist bomber?
#2...when the government can convince me they are building a national database of illegal aliens, including criminals and the mentally ill, who have false SS#s, drivers licenses, voters registration cards, work permits, welfare cards, bank accounts, and school ids, or that they have a jurisdiction by jurisdiction database of reliable/verifiable eligible voters...then maybe I´ll be impressed with them taking on ancillary issues...
Obama lied. You can´t buy a gun at a gun show without a background check. If you purchase a gun on line, it will NOT be delivered to your home..you must pick it up at a licensed gun dealer AFTER a background check. Now what kind of background check for guns is there for all Obama´s bros in the Chicago ´hood?

Which is worse: exploiting the parents of dead children, telling lies about Bhenghazi, campaining on a daily basis, blaming everything that happens on the lack of money now, blaming everything on the Republicans... the list goes on....
I agreed with Rand Paul in the article who said he´s disappointed that sometimes the president uses people as props. I´d been thinking that even his family are probably props and it won´t surprise me if he and Michelle get divorced once their time in the WH is done.
New York Gov. Cuomo is a microcosm about what "background check" would or would not do. He promised that the restrictive New York gun law recently passed would not affect gun ownership and as soon as the bill passed, he started confiscating private guns. The president´s little tirade was a pretense to confiscate weapons and render the Americans defenseless.
Hey Emperor Barcky.... maybe you aren´t so royal after all.
Have you checked the mirror lately?
By the way, in case you hadn´t noticed, several of your DEMOCRATS put this ugly dog down.... Senate Republicans alone don´t get anything done. Blame the NRA all you want ... your continued Big Brother goals for this country ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE to even some Democrats.
A poster elsewhere mentioned he was sick and tired of Obama dragging parents and other victims from one staged site to another trying to override the Constitution using Children´s corpses. How many are being paid? Is that method a surprise? It shouldn´t be. He learned it all from his muslim beliefs as carried out against Israel. It always works well with the UN agenda. Harry is going to try again later when the red state dems are more compliant. Harry-- Harry -- just admit for once there are about 30 red states and gun grabs come up against states rights as well as the 2nd amendment.
My husband bought an AR-15 last fall. The clerk at the store said shop for awhile, it might take up to 20 minutes for your background check to be complete. However, when the clerk pressed "enter", it came up immediately. Because he´s a truck driver and he used to haul US Mail (FBI check), he has clearance to enter ports, and he has a haz mat endorsement. My husband is perfectly sane (more than me), but if he went crazy, the background check didn´t do jack. And Joe Blow buys his weapon in an alley where they don´t do background checks. I´ve never seen a black helicopter, but I don´t want this kind of restriction on law-abiding citizens.
#2 must have just come out of the Soros factory. Eventually they learn that the fastest way to identify a leftist troll is when they say, "I´ve always voted Republican, but..." Hey, bunny-brain, conservatives aren´t goose-stepping statists who are proud of the fact that they mindlessly vote for one party no matter what. I´d explain it to you, but it would require understanding what principles are.
A sex tape that Monica Lewinsky recorded for Bill Clinton at the height of their scandalous affair has leaked, during which the former White House intern is heard planning a secret sexual rendezvous with the president and declaring she is “too cute and adorable” to be ignored. On the audio tape obtained by The National Enquirer, Lewinsky at one point tries to seduce the commander in chief: “I could take my clothes off and start… well… I know you wouldn’t enjoy that? I hope to see you later and I hope you will follow my script and do what

The federal government has responded with near adequate conviction, the pressure by Western countries to impose the perverted culture of legalising homosexual lifestyles in Nigeria. The two arms of the National Assembly have taken uncompromising stands, making a law prescribing a fourteen-year jail term for people caught, tried and sentenced for practising homosexual acts in Nigeria. Our President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, has also made it clear that he would align with the feelings of the Nigerian people and its supreme legislature in ensuring that the law is implemented. The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has warned that new oil discoveries across various countries pose threats to the nation´s revenue. (Snip) “US Energy Information Agency (EIA) forecasts the US oil imports to 6mbpd, roughly a third of what it uses, by 2014 as the country moves closer to oil dependence by 2035,” he said. In his words, “Over the fifteen-month period to July 2012, US crude oil imports from Nigeria dropped to about 333,000 bpd from over 1.1mbpd, displacing West African oil from the US market. This will probably put downward pressure on price
Members of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), excluding Iran, recorded about $982 billion, or five per cent increase in net oil export revenue in 2012, according to recent estimates of the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA). The Western energy watchdog noted that the amount was estimated to be the largest level over the 1975—2012 period. In its newly-released revenue fact sheet, the EIA estimated that Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $311 billion in 2012, or approximately 32 per cent of total OPEC revenues. OPEC members are Nigeria, Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran,
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), a proponent of tenets of the “Dream Act” for young illegal immigrants spoke before attendees at the Jewish Center of Jackson Heights in Queens, New York on Saturday. Cantor and Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) were the only two Republicans at the event, which was organized by the Faith & Politics Institute. The stop at the temple was part of a bipartisan tour of New York City over the weekend in which members of Congress supporting comprehensive immigration reform participated. Other lawmakers at the Jewish Center in Jackson Heights were Reps. Joe Crowley (D-NY), Carolyn
Former Rep. Lindy Boggs, who filled her husband´s seat in the House of Representatives after his plane disappeared and went on to serve 18 years as a tireless advocate for women and minorities, died today at the age of 97. "She was remarkable in every way," ABC´s Cokie Roberts, one of Boggs´s three children, said. "She was able to accomplish a great deal for a great many people around the country and around the world, but doing it in an always gracious, always pleasant way that would serve as a great lesson for folks of today
Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is to face trial on pimping charges, French prosecutors say. Investigating magistrates have decided he should be tried in connection with an alleged prostitution ring at a hotel in Lille. The former presidential hopeful has admitted attending sex parties there, but says he did not know that some of the women were paid prostitutes. The case is the last of the sex-related allegations faced by Mr Strauss-Kahn. A series of lurid claims have been made about the high profile French figure since he was arrested in New York in May 2011 after a hotel maid
Five Russians and a Ukrainian face federal criminal charges of hacking into the computers of major payment processors, retailers and financial institutions, stealing more than 160 million credit card numbers and causing hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. It is the largest such scheme ever prosecuted in the United States, federal authorities said in unsealing indictments Thursday in Newark, N.J., and Manhattan. Victimized firms ranged from 7-Eleven, Wet Seal and JetBlue to Visa Jordan, Diners Singapore and the Nasdaq stock market, authorities said. Three corporate victims alone lost more than $300 million, and the alleged scheme caused
Los Angeles — Thanks to his recent wins at both The Open Championship and the Scottish Open, Phil Mickelson pocketed more than $2.16 million in just two weeks. The world’s top golfer —who came under fire earlier this year when he complained about his supposed 60 percent tax rate as a California resident — is taking another hit on his recent earnings. According to Forbes, Mickelson has been subjected to the United Kingdom’s 45 percent tax rate for those who make more than £150,000 a year. In addition, the magazine reports, he will be taxed on a portion
Washington — President Barack Obama’s choice to be the No. 2 official at the Homeland Security Department is under investigation for his role in helping a company secure an international investor visa for a Chinese executive, the Associated Press has learned. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas, who has been nominated to be the department’s No. 2 leader, was named by the DHS Inspector General’s Office as a target in an ongoing investigation about the foreign investor program run by USCIS. According to an email sent to lawmakers Monday evening, the IG’s office initially starting investigating
Foreign policy achievements have thus far stood out for their absence during President Obama´s tenure. The engagement with Iran, the "reset" of relations with Russia, the intermediation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the protestations against cyber-attacks coming from China against U.S. firms, the pressures on North Korea and the "red line" warnings to the Syrian regime over chemical weapons, have all failed to advance peace or democracy in the world or to strengthen the American hand in international relations. U.S. foreign policy initiatives have, in no small measure, been subordinated to the
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. According to a report published Monday in the

But within a decade, it is expected that the ocean which the village of Kivalina has so relied on will completely destroy it--creating America´s first climate change refugees. America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group. Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding. The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
A group of experts advising the nation’s premier cancer research institution has recommended sweeping changes in the approach to cancer detection and treatment, including changes in the very definition of cancer and eliminating the word entirely from some common diagnoses. Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
