"I think we’ve got a good chance of seeing it pass if members of Congress are listening to the American people," President Obama said in an interview on NBC´s "Today Show" that aired on Tuesday. "The notion that Congress would defy the overwhelming instinct of the American people after what we saw happen in Newtown, I think, is unimaginable." Obama was then asked by Savannah Guthrie how he could expect Democrats in red states to vote on this bill when he, as a Senator, didn´t have to himself.
Even though it´s the day after a terrorist attack in Boston, obama can´t back off from his gun grab agenda. He can´t take one day off from telling bold face lies about gun control. He is shameless. He has no sense of decency. There is no limit to how low the creep can go.
Does duffus Obama not understand that NO GUNS were involved in this bombing at the Boston Marathon! What´s he going to do - make pressure cookers illegal? Will the feds come into our homes now to check for pressure cookers?
Actually, I don´t think they are used very much any more - now that microwave cooking is so popular. Crock pots also are more popular than pressure cookers. When my mother was fixing something in her pressure cooker, she warned me to be careful around it - that the weight on the lid could "blow" off and hit me in the face. My parents always scared the h@## out of me over a lot of things when I was a kid, and I must say they were quite effective.
Congress isn[´t defying us. Congress for once is listening to us. It wasn´t the NRA but millions of Americans that made their Senators and Congressmen aware of their thoughts about gun grabs and the consequences of voting for gun grabs. Seems Senators want their cushy jobs more than they want to make Obambi a hero on this one.
Once more we observe that this "professor"(actually a mere instructor-lecturer) of Constitutional law does not understand the basics of American government. He does not know how the republic was constructed and designed to work. He really seems to have skipped freshman civics or whatever middle school course explained this. If he had been paying attention he would know that the United States Congress, for good or for ill, is the representative of the American people. That is why America is called a representative democracy.
I really don´t think Obama understands the roles and functions and limitations of the three branches of government and the thinking behind the system. It is obvious, of course, that he does not like the system - but remarks like this latest one give me the eerie feeling that, incredible as it sounds, he actually does not understand how the system is supposed to work.
The defiance that I see here is coming from you mister. 70% of Americans on both sides of the aisle did not want your healthcare abomination, yet you forced it on us.
At least 60% of Americans don´t want you ignoring the Constitution by grabbing guns, or ignoring repeated calls for sealed borders and enforcing existing immigration laws, but here we go again sweetie, you are defying the will of the American people.
That you are so ignorantly tone deaf is the nicest thing I can say about you and your Mrs. The Lord picked a ´good one´ to get His ball rolling, did He not?
What´s really unimaginable is that an America-hating, racist, malignant Narcissist and Marxist ideologue bent on the utter destruction of the United States of America could be elected POTUS - TWICE! After a complete and utter failure of all of his policies and truly stunning displays of gross incompetence, the low-information/illegal/self-loathing whites/96% of blacks/everybody looking for government "freebies" put this malignancy back in office in order to complete the destruction he began in his first term.
The United States we once knew is dead. Nothing short of Civil War will bring it back.
#22, I agree with what you say, except for the Civil War part. I´m sorry to say I think we are already past that level.
Our side has the guns. I think Obama is clearly preparing to confront us with a combination of his OFAs (´Organizing for Action´ brownshirts), local police, and the military. And he´s been stockpiling weapons for what he thinks are ´his people´.
The OFAs would definitely want to fight and would have weapons, but almost none of them have any concept of military operations. Most of the military would refuse to follow unconstitutional orders, since they swore to defend the Constitution, not the rocket scientist in the White House. And I believe most of the police would break our way too. Some law enforcement officers are already on record that they would not enforce any increased gun-grabbing laws.
Pressure cookers are hazardous to your health. After hearing horror stories from my mom, I swore there would never be one of these in my kitchen. If someone has an extra, perhaps they might send it over to the white hut for the couple who stay there.
Anything and everything this guy says just creeps me out. Delusional, nothing based on reality. He has turned into a caricature of himself. But the corrupt Leftist media laps up and approves of everything he says. When we lost the media, we lost the country.

Obama is a moron who continues to think of himself as King and adored by the world. Somebody wake him up. America is a constitutional republic. In the Constitution. there is a second amendment. Perhaps the so-called constitutional scholar should read the constitution.
WASHINGTON—Senior Republicans in Congress, frustrated over their inability to strike a deal to reopen the government, began shifting from their drive to undercut the 2010 health-care law, which has been the central element of the dispute, toward a broader budget deal. The new focus comes as Congress is beginning to confront the need to raise the nation´s debt ceiling, which the Treasury said must be done this month in order for it to pay all its obligations. With federal agencies largely shuttered for a third day, some GOP lawmakers were exploring whether the political stalemate over funding the government could
As the government shutdown continues, the nation gets closer and closer to the day—probably Oct. 17—when Washington hits the debt limit, and with it the specter of default. President Obama may be getting nervous about what will happen to his negotiating position as that day approaches. He keeps asserting that the debt limit has never been used "to extort a president or a government party." Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is selling the same story, saying "until very recently, Congress typically raised the debt ceiling on a routine basis . . . the threat of default was not a bargaining chip in
House Republicans can do their job and vote to fund the government without funding ObamaCare, regardless of whether Senate Democrats ever show up for work. The House can pass bills funding the most urgent parts of the government piece by piece. In fact, they can get back to regular order and pass actual appropriations bills, pursuant to the Ryan budget the House has already passed. Then House Republicans can hold daily press conferences and list the government agencies and programs they have voted to fund, and announce they are ready to go to conference committee with Senate Democrats on those funding bills,
Is this the Change we were waiting for? Really? Even if you voted the other way in 2008, most of the country felt an energy early in 2009, fresh blood in the White House, a clean slate built on a historic choice who promised so much. Even skeptics were hopeful. No more. Just look, if you haven´t just eaten, at the sad spectacle unfolding in Washington these days on both sides — starting at the top. As the world´s second oldest profession, politics has never been pretty. We ask these chosen men and women to set the collective public priorities and work
RUSH: This is really outrageous on so many levels, buts let´s take it at a base level. The thrust of the story is that there are a lot of poor blacks and single mothers in the South who are black, two-thirds of ´em aren´t gonna have any health care or insurance and it´s because of Republicans. Yes, Republican governors, yes, you see the Republican governors are denying two-thirds of their poor black and single-mother populations health care. That´s what the New York Times says. Here is the lead sentence, and it prompts an obvious question. Here´s the lead sentence. "A sweeping
RUSH: James Taranto, the Wall Street Journal, has a story of a guy named Brendan Mahoney, who did succeed. It´s a Hartford Courant story, and this guy´s being joked about as the man who saved Obamacare. The subhead is: "Great news! They got a 30-year-old dude to sign up!" And here are the details. "Meet Brendan Mahoney, the young man who is saving ObamaCare. He´s 30 years old, a third-year law student at the University of Connecticut. He´s actually been insured for the past three years -- in 2011 and 2012 through a $2,400-a-year school-sponsored health plan." So he´s already
RUSH: Harry Reid. Let´s move on to sound bites five, six, and seven. This is yesterday, Dana Bash, Q&A with Dingy Harry. BASH: If you can help one child who has cancer, why wouldn´t you do it? REID: Why would we want to do that? I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own. This is... To have someone of your intelligence to suggest such a thing maybe means -- BASH: I´m just asking a question. REID: -- you’re irresponsible and reckless. RUSH: Can you hear it? She is so embarrassed. Her idol,
One reason this column was wary of congressional Republicans´ government-shutdown strategy against ObamaCare is that it seemed unlikely to succeed. ObamaCare is unpopular, but so are government shutdowns, and both the president (for structural reasons) and the Democrats (for ideological ones) would appear to have a natural advantage in such a confrontation. Hence the Democrats´ "victory" in the last two shutdowns, in 1995 and 1996. It may still turn out that way, but we´ve been surprised this week at the Democrats´ tactical maladroitness. As Josh Jordan quipped yesterday on Twitter: "Since the shutdown began, Obama and [Senate Majority Leader Harry] Reid
RUSH: I can´t tell you why, I mean, this is a gut feel. Of course it could be wrong. I actually think that the Democrats are showing signs of losing it in this shutdown. I really do. I think they´re in uncharted water. It´s what I was talking about yesterday. When you know you have the media on your side, you just are confident you´re gonna get your way, and they have been with the Republicans ever since basically the 2008 election, the 2012 election, throw 2010 out, they basically have been able to intimidate the Republicans into falling in
Though he had high ambitions, there is a glaring reason why Edward Moore Kennedy did not have national appeal: he wore his liberalism on his sleeve. A hard-left statist from Massachusetts could sit in the U.S. Senate for decades, but the Oval Office aspirations of Teddy were just daydreams. Then came Barack Hussein Obama II. Though the press presented Barry as a post-partisan, god-like figure, in truth a radical statist to the left of Teddy arrived to occupy the White House in 2009. The country wasn´t ready for such an ideologue; otherwise, the candidate´s campaign and his media would not have
When Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) was asked on Wednesday whether he has read all 10,535 pages of final Obamacare that the administration has so for published in the Federal Register, he first gave a response that did not address the question. When Warner was asked the question a second time, he walked away without answering. CNSNews.com: “Sir, the administration has published 10,535 pages of final Obamacare regulations into the Federal Register. Have you read all 10,535 pages?” Sen. Warner: “I think we saw yesterday a lot of interest from the American people. And are there ways that we can make this law better?
As the partial government shutdown enters its third day, many House Republicans are determined to keep fighting, even though they see no plausible way out of the current impasse, because they´ve come so far they cannot imagine backing down now. "I think there´s a sense that for us to do a clean CR now -- then what the hell was this about?" one Republican House member told me. "So I don´t think it´s going to end anytime soon." Wednesday was the best day in a while for Republicans, but not because of any progress they made toward their goal of defunding,
Get ready for Chelsea Clinton Bump Watch 2014 — the only daughter of the former president and former secretary of State is declaring next year the “Year of the Baby.” In an interview for the November issue of Glamour magazine on her work with the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, Clinton reveals that she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are planning for a bouncing addition to their household. According to the 33-year-old Oxford grad, the pair, who married in 2010, sat down together a year after tying the knot and made a list focused on their future, saying, “We want,
On Tuesday evening, left-wing Politico ran a headline story encapsulating the theme of the day: “Government closed, Obamacare falters.” That message marked a massive loss for the Obama administration, which has claimed that Obamacare’s implementation could not be delayed, and used that rationale as an excuse to reject the House’s proposal for a one-year delay in favor of a government shutdown. The narrative began to shift early in the morning on Tuesday, when the Drudge Report ran a lead piece on the Obamacare health exchanges coming up with error messages for users across the country. “OBAMACRASH,” Drudge headlined. He followed
President Obama told CNBC’s John Harwood that while he’s been president, he’s “bent over backwards to work with the Republican party.” Obama boasted: During the course of my presidency, I have bent over backwards to work with the Republican party. I think I’m pretty well known for being a calm guy. Sometimes people think I’m too calm. And am I exasperated? Absolutely, I’m exasperated. Because this is entirely unnecessary. I am exasperated with the idea that, unless I say that, ‘Twenty million people, you can’t have health insurance,’ these folks will not reopen the government. That is irresponsible. The President asserted that he’s
More than a dozen House Republicans who want to drop attempts to undermine the health-care law and reopen the government are meeting among themselves and with House Speaker John Boehner -- and he’s listening. For the past few weeks, Boehner’s hand has been guided by a group of Tea Party-aligned Republican House members who’ve urged little compromise in their three-year drive to undo the 2010 Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Now, the agitation is coming from the other side of the caucus. A bipartisan group of about 40 House lawmakers are holding private talks to find a compromise
DALLAS —In a shopping center parking lot 1,300 miles from Washington’s bureaucracy and bickering, teen mom Karina Luciano loaded a watermelon and baby formula into her car. Luciano didn’t realize the federal assistance program that just purchased the food items for her children, Aimee, 2, and Jaiden, 11 months, is now in jeopardy because of the government shutdown. “Oh my god, I think I’m going to cry,” Luciano said upon learning the news. “This is really bad.” Nearly 9 million low-income mothers and children receive benefits under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Congress’ inability to
Despite an emergency meeting at the White House, congressional leaders reported no progress late Wednesday on trying to reach a budget deal -- while over on Capitol Hill, tempers were flaring and lawmakers were melting down on the floor of the House. The top four congressional leaders took a stab, during an hour-long White House meeting, at negotiating with President Obama over the impasse. There was no breakthrough. House Speaker John Boehner emerged saying he had a "nice, polite conversation" but complaining that Obama would not budge off his demand that Congress pass a straight budget bill -- one that does not
The shutdown battle has become, essentially, a high-stakes blame game.(snip)But in a note to clients, Potomac Research Group´s Greg Valliere says that President Obama still has one "trump card" of his own left to play, Social Security: THE HEAVY ARTILLERY: We have thought for weeks that Obama would play the Social Security trump card if there was no deal on the debt ceiling by mid-October. This is one of several reasons why we think a default is unlikely, and it´s one of several reasons why Boehner will capitulate; the only questions are when and under what terms. We think he may
New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait spent his government shutdown day mocking WWII veterans who were shut out by the National Park Service (NPS) when they came to visit the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday morning, Representative Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and several Republican members of Congress helped tear down the barricades shutting the elderly veterans out of the WWII memorial. After the barricades were removed, dozens of veterans flooded in to conduct their often emotional visits. But, thinking he was being funny, Chait took to Twitter to poke fun at the veterans, joking that the NPS should
Ted Cruz faced a barrage of hostile questions Wednesday from angry GOP senators, who lashed the Texas tea party freshman for helping prompt a government shutdown crisis without a strategy to end it. At a closed-door lunch meeting in the Senate’s Mansfield Room, Republican after Republican pressed Cruz to explain how he would propose to end the bitter budget impasse with Democrats, according to senators who attended the meeting. A defensive Cruz had no clear plan to force an end to the shutdown — or explain how he would defund Obamacare, as he has demanded all along, sources said. Things
The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday. Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial. The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in. “We got the heads up
Ronan Farrow’s ol’ blue eyes may say it all. Farrow, long described as the only biological child of actress Mia Farrow and New York filmmaker Woody Allen, may actually be the son of Frank Sinatra, his mom acknowledged in a bombshell report Wednesday. While Hollywood has whispered about the prospect for years, it was the first time that Mia publicly admitted the possibility. Asked point-blank by Vanity Fair about Sinatra’s possible parentage of Ronan, Mia coyly replied: “Possibly.” The “Rosemary’s Baby’’ actress was married to Ol’ Blue Eyes from 1966 to 1968 but continued to be his lover on and off afterward — including
Conservative talker Mark Levin has a stern warning for President Barack Obama and his administration: Don’t mess with the World War II veterans. Levin, author of “The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic,” told his audience on his Wednesday radio show should there be any action taken against those veterans for visiting the World War II Memorial on the National Mall, even with the government shutdown, he would bring 500,000 people to march on the Washington, D.C. in response. “I want to tell you folks something — I want to say this loud and clear to the people
