Is There Such a Thing
as a ‘Gay Disease’?

Daily Beast, by Kent Sepkowitz

Original Article

The slow-motion meningitis outbreak among gay men in New York City took a possibly frightening turn this weekend when a rapidly fatal case of the disease was seen in a previously healthy young gay lawyer in Los Angeles. The facts are still emerging, but the basics are as follows: last fall, just before a fungal meningitis scare popped up in five mostly Southern states, a cluster of cases caused by meningococcus, a bacterium, was seen in NYC among gay men, some of whom were HIV-infected. The New York cases differed in every way from the meningitis caused by fungus:

Promiscuous sexual behavior increases the risk of disease. Promiscuous sexual behavior between two men does so even more. There are reasons that God commands monogamous, heterosexual sexual behavior.

I don´t want to be crude, but sex that involves coming in contact with fecal material (especially someone else´s) is inherently unhealthy. It´s a wonder there aren´t more diseases associated with this.

Ummm . . .

it is one thing to advise specific groups of people to receive a vaccine; it it’s another for those people with risk to step forward for the vaccine. Because to step forward for the vaccine is for many to step forward out of the closet.

There´s a part of me that would like to just say "cry me a river!"

Perhaps we should all pretend that there is no vaccine and make our decisions from there. This appears to be a very avoidable disease. So, just avoid it, like we´re trying to do with obesity.

Is it just me, or am I the only person that understands that monogamous sexual relationships don´t suffer from this kind of a problem?

Infections discriminate every second, everywhere, and all of the time—they follow absolutely no rules of social justice. Rather, they almost always hit the poor or the marginalized.

Social justice. Is that something like political correctness?

The poor often fall victim to infections because of lack of hygiene, clean water, nutritious food, etc.

And apparently the marginalized are whose whose behavior results in disease. The answer is a no-brainer - change your disease-inducing behavior.

This spreading of disease by perfectly natural, normal behavior just confuses the hell out of me. How could this happen?
The media and the democrats basically shout it from the rooftops daily that this is normal behavior, so it must be true, right?
Maybe we can get all these fellas gay married and that will make it all right.
Make it a noisy, national priority. That, and disarming the population.
Nuts.

Bishop Richard J. Malone says he is “extremely disappointed and deeply concerned” that State Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy has adopted a pro-choice position on abortion, in what appears to be an unprecedented statement by a Buffalo bishop about a local Catholic officeholder. The bishop noted the conflict between Kennedy’s support for pro-choice bills such as Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s Women’s Equality Act and the Buffalo Democrat’s faith. “For anyone to say that he or she is a faithful Catholic and to be pro-abortion/pro-choice rights is totally inconsistent with Catholic teaching, which is clearly articulated in the catechism of the Catholic

Denmark’s government has brought in a ban on the religious slaughter of animals for the production of halal and kosher meat, after years of campaigning from welfare activists. The change to the law, announced last week and effective as of yesterday, has been called “anti-Semitism” by Jewish leaders and “a clear interference in religious freedom” by the non-profit group Danish Halal. European regulations require animals to be stunned before they are slaughtered, but grants exemptions on religious grounds. For meat to be considered kosher under Jewish law or halal under Islamic law, the animal must be conscious when killed.
