Newtown mom begs for gun
control in heartbreaking plea
during the President´s weekly
radio address, the first person
to deliver the statement other
than Obama or Biden since 2009

Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

The mother of a 6-year-old boy killed in the Connecticut school shooting used the opportunity to fill in for President Barack Obama during the weekly radio and Internet address to make a personal plea from the White House for action to combat gun violence. ´Thousands of other families across the United States are also drowning in our grief,´ said Francine Wheeler, choking back tears in the address broadcast Saturday. ´Please help us do something before our tragedy becomes your tragedy.´ Ben Wheeler was among the 20 first-graders and six adults killed in the Dec. 14 attack

Why haven´t republicans brought forth the Newton moms that believe this tragedy would not have happened if this had not been a gun free zone. Please everyone call your senator to insist that they do not take away our guns. I called my rep and got voice mail. Don´t give up leave a message if you have to. Lets make our voices heard.

I understand completely, the overwhelming grief these parents must be experiencing. They also feel need to do something.

The sad truth is that they can never change what happened and any new laws give the false impression that kids will be "safer."

It´ similar to sporting a "ribbon" of whatever color, and thinking that that act alone will cure the disease.

I hate that they are convenient props used by the president to divert attention away from what is really happening to the country.

And...WHY doesn´t anyone confront him directly on his own Justice Departments weak record of prosecuting criminals who have committed crimes with guns...get them off the streets and gun crime will decline.

Obama, Holder, Schumer, and even some of those who lost children know that any of the proposed gun control legislation would not prevent a Newtown like shooting. The politicians will not address real workable legislation that would make it more difficult for the mentally ill to access guns or to help train and arm teachers and school staff. What Democrats really want is more Newtowns. For liberals the more tragedies the better. Rahm Emanuel pegged it...Democrats should never let a crisis go to waste. Thomas Sowell in his book Vision of the Anoited laid out the liberal plan...."create" a crisis that does not exist and then spend money and apply social engineering to the non existent crisis. Of course the created crisis never gets cured.

First and foremost, to the grieving parents and other loved ones of those innocent children, I offer my sincere condolences.

Now, my opinion: Former Congressman and FNC Contributor Dennis Kucinich’s appearance last night on “Hannity” should be replayed often in order that as many people as possible be made aware of just how out of touch with reality he and his fellow “progressives” are about the real, gritty world we inhabit. He mumbled and bumbled and fumbled around for something worthwhile to say but he was woefully unsuccessful. Based on what Kucinich had to contribute to the discussion, perhaps what we need is Liberal Democrat Pundit Opinion Control.

It´s a shame that guns have become a political issue. Law abiding people with guns are not going to go around killing people. The mentally ill people need to be identified and rounded up and placed in hospitals where they can get help. Where are those hospitals that once existed?????

She should not allow herself to be a puppet for the Democrats and their tyranny, but I guess it´s hard to recognized when you´re being conned and used during the darkest period of your life.

People who brood in their basements about harming and killing other people will perhaps one day do real damage. If not with a gun, then surely by some other means. If a demented lunch lady poisons 26 kids from the cafeteria, should we outlaw poison? Or outlaw knives for fear some crazy will walk through a crowd randomly swinging his blade? (That just happened.)You can´t ban the consequence.

Very sorry for her loss but this woman is completely naive and actually believes that would-be murderers would follow stricter laws. Lanza could easily have killed 26 elementary school children with a baseball bat, so why the focus on his weapons?

Mental hospitals were mostly closed down in the hopes that letting those people experience mainstream society every day would somehow encourage them to be normal. That philosophy still permeates our government "educational" institutions where capable students must endure classes full of disruptive and unmotivated dunces. People are different. Their existence in society requires different environments.

Not to wish bad luck on anybody but the only cure for this woman is if she were attacked one day and a crowd of unarmed bystanders can only stand and watch while the police are miles away.

I read the transcript.

Not a single mention of mental illness, medication or violent video games.

I have personal experience with all of these. This woman makes me angry. She really does.

If you want to take one positive step to identify future murders like Lanza then examine the online records of some of these community X-Box games like Halo and see who is playing for 8 to 15 hours non stop.

I´m sorry, this woman´s address has really made me angry.

Sadly, she´s a stooge for modern liberalism, suicidal to all of Western Civilization.

Sorry, no sympathy. For those who say this woman and the other family members are being used, how do we know that? How do we know that they aren´t flaming libs who are using their own children´s deaths for political purposes? Libs and dems have shown repeatedly that they will use any crisis and stoop to any depth to advance their agenda. Why is it that we don´t know any thing about these people other than that they are members of families of the victims? If these members were supporting a conservative cause you can be the media and dems would be doing opposition research and we would know everything about them from their associations to the amount of toilet paper they use. It is terrible that the kids were killed, but my sympathy is for them and the fact that their lives were cut short, not for these people.

Has it be 4 months since it happened? Or close too it? All of them should be at home mourning their children they lost.

They should be comforting the children that lived through this and will have nightmare´s the rest of their dear lives. I wonder if those children are asking their parents are/did you wish I died...so you can make money of of our deaths?

Please don´t take our constitutinal right to bear arms..because you were negigent in protect your own children.

You can´t tell me you didn´t know about this child´s mental problems..it is not possible.

And take any benefit for your lost...TV shows, interviews, going before congress. doing the Saturday Morning Presidential Speech.

I know I couldn´t do that...I would be home crying and going to the cementery sitting at my child´s grave.

The Republican response should have been delivered by a mother who saved her life and that of her children by shooting an intruder, followed by a Chicago mother who, because of severe gun laws was denied the right to own a gun, and lost a child she could not defend.

Couldn´t agree more, #49. If, many years ago something like this had happened to me, my mother´s grief would have been unendurable. As terrible and unfair as it would certainly have been, I have no doubt that she would have been unable to speak to anyone other than loved ones for a long time and the thought of her giving interviews and the like is simply impossible. Today, no matter how horrible the tragedy, the close relations of the deceased never seem to have any real qualms about appearing on "news" programs and making political statements. I just cannot relate to this type of behavior.

My heart breaks for this mother, and for all the parents of the victims of Sandy Hook. But her (their) grief and ignorance should not cause our lawmakers to ignore our Constitution and their oaths to protect and defend it. It will not bring back her child, and it will not protect anyone else´s children.

There is more to fear from an armed tyrannical government against helpless, unarmed citizens, than from lone killers against armed citizens with the freedom to protect themselves. A gun in the hand of a law abiding person at Sandy Hook could have prevented that tragedy.

Ask anyone who has been to Israel about schools being safe for the children. They are very safe. No shootings at all. Why? Because most teachers are packing and there are armed guards all over the place. Look at the little kiddies out playing. Right next to them is an armed teacher or guard.
The Jews seem to know how to do things. You may not like their ways, but they work. But they pay attention to history.

Very sad, tragic woman. But she´s hysterical, and though Obama´s not above using hysteria or anything else under the sun, hysteria makes for bad policy.

Incompetent leader that he is, Obama did not move quickly and adroitly enough on this issue to take advantage of the now faded public mood, so he´s trying to nag us into passing his gun control scam by using these poor people. He blew it. Just when I think I could not despise his methods more, he surprises me, and pulls another stunt like this one.

I live in Sandy Hook. Here, gun control is not on everyone´s list of things to do first. Obviously Obama & Co are exploiting this mom´s pain and sorrow for politics. Despicable. Sens Murphy and Blumenthal should know better. Hacks.

Four months and no police/corner reports, no security camera picture of shooters at the door, no statement by witnesses, what motive was there to shoot children ? ,.. Nothing ; Just wild speculation by the media whores... I don´t think American knows anything for sure about what happened at Sandy Hook and I see no reason at this point for more gun laws that will not change anything now or in the future

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s review of “Bridgegate” has found that he was not involved or aware of the controversial George Washington Bridge lane closures in September that have plagued his administration, according to a report. Citing those with “firsthand knowledge of the inquiry,” The New York Times reported that while the investigation cleared Christie, it it not know whether the review established if the governor “created or condoned a culture that fostered political intimidation.” The paper reported that the probe was commissioned by Christie, who selected a legal team from the firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. VIENNA— It was put on auction as the only camera that made it to the moon and back. And it had its price — nearly $760,000. The Hasselblad 500 sold over the weekend is described by Vienna auctioneers Galerie Westlicht as part of the equipment carried by the 1971 Apollo 15 mission — and the only camera ever brought back from the moon. It says the others were left behind to make room for mineral samples. Galerie Westlicht identifies the new owner as Japanese businessman Terukazu Fujisawa. It says the owner of an electronics chain placed his winning bid of

When the New Jersey bridge closure scandal broke in January, the big three news networks led the way in turning what was a local story into a national one. In the bridge scandal’s first 24 hours, the networks devoted 34 minutes and 28 seconds to covering it. That was 17 times the amount of coverage that the networks had given to the IRS abuse scandal, across six months. The IRS scandal involved a Democratic administration and Democrat political appointees, who targeted conservative groups. The bridge scandal involved a Republican governor and his appointees, and the Republican governor was a front-runner

Top Republicans are hoping for a happy beginning to the next, 114th Congress, with the GOP taking control of the Senate and forcing President Obama on his heels for the last two years of his term. But in the House, the clouds are already gathering over the first day of the next session, when the chamber votes to elect a Speaker. “My sense at the present time that the Speaker doesn´t have the support of the conference,” says South Carolina Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan about John Boehner. Another member of the House privately estimates that 40 Republican lawmakers would vote

It is truly a Hollywood epic of biblical proportions, the original disaster story of the man chosen by God to undertake the greatest rescue in history before an apocalyptic flood engulfs the world. But even before it opens in America this week and Britain on April 4, Noah, a $130 million blockbuster with Russell Crowe in the lead role, is already awash in a turbulent sea of controversy. The film, packed with special effects based around a massive replica arc built in Long Island near New York, also stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah and Emily Watson, the Harry Potter

Barack Obama takes his hard line on Russia to Europe this week and will see how far European allies are willing to go to stop Moscow from moving deeper into Ukraine after annexing Crimea. The US president will arrive in the Netherlands on Monday morning for talks with fellow leaders of the Group of Seven industrial democracies, when he will try to persuade them to increase pressure on Russia. It comes as Russian troops backed by helicopters stormed a Ukrainian naval base on the Crimea peninsula early on Monday, one of the few military facilities that was still flying a Ukrainian

Dougherty wrote: Conservatives in the GOP like to assail identity politics and tout their own ideology as one of color blindness. Sometimes this is stupidly marketed to black voters as a selling point for Republicans. "We don´t categorize you by race," brags a Republican. The black audience hears: "We don´t take the most salient part of your American political identity seriously. I am a real, live black person. When I hear Republicans say, "We don´t categorize you

WASHINGTON — Bill Clinton found him to be cold and worrisome, but predicted he would be a tough and able leader. George W. Bush wanted to make him a friend and partner in the war on terror, but grew disillusioned over time. Barack Obama tried working around him by building up his protégé in the Kremlin, an approach that worked for a time but steadily deteriorated to the point that relations between Russia and the United States are now at their worst point since the end of the Cold War. For 15 years, Vladimir V. Putin has confounded American presidents

There’s something that makes the current Supreme Court different from some of its recent predecessors. The justices got religion. Or at least they seem more open about their faith, appearing before devout audiences and talking more about how religion shaped their lives or guides them now. As the court this week weighs religious conviction vs. legal obligation in the latest challenge to the Affordable Care Act, those who study the court say the change is hard to quantify but easy to notice. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. are devout Catholics who faced questions
