Blather, Rinse, Repeat
Wall Street Journal, by James Taranto

The guys at CBS News have a sense of humor. The Web headline on their story about President Obama´s antigun speech yesterday in Hartford, Conn., reads: "Obama on Gun Debate: ´This Isn´t About Me.´ " That reminded someone on Twitter of the same network´s headline from July 20, 2009: "Obama on Health Care: ´This Isn´t About Me.´ " Try to imagine how soul-ravishingly tedious an Obama speech would be if it were about him. We dare you. Obama´s speech, at once demagogic and pathetic, reminded us of Mayor Michael Nutter´s efforts to censor a different kind of magazine,

Ted Cruz: President Obama runs America like
a “corrupt dictator” not bound by the law
Morning News (Dallas, Tx), by Wayne Slater    Original Article
Posted By: Desert Fox- 1/11/2014 6:40:07 AM     Post Reply
Sen. Ted Cruz compared America under President Obama to a corrupt dictatorship in which the chief executive decides which laws to follow and which to ignore. He cited the Obama administration delay of the employer mandate under the Affordable Health Care Act. He said the directive to ease deportation of immigrant parents and not to defend the federal ban on marijuana in states like Colorado and Washington that choose to legalize it were other examples of the president’s “consistent pattern of lawlessness.” “If the president of the United States can simply pick and choose which laws to follow… we know

How Sarah Palin became my new bestie

You can feel the charm when you watch her operate in person, that Sarah Palin. You don’t expect it, but it’s there – the awkward mix of pseudo-authenticity and charisma, the smooth way with a room full of reporters, the way she just carries on, regardless. Me, I was taken aback. She’s practically my new bestie, now. Squeezed my hand, called me “honey,” even stopped to squeeze my shoulder on her way out and thank me. We had a wee chat and a laugh. Palin was here Friday for an early breakfast event to promote her new series on a fairly obscure

While MSNBC has struggled mightily with scandalous outbursts from its hosts Alec Baldwin, Martin Bashir, and Melissa Harris-Perry, “Hardball” host Chris Matthews keeps pounding away at allegedly racist Republicans who want to “erase Obama from the history books.” On Thursday night’s “Hannity,” Sean Hannity asked MRC president Brent Bozell “why no scrutiny” for the wacky accusations of Matthews? He began his Tuesday night show wailing about the horrific consequences if Republicans advance in the 2014 midterms: MATTHEWS: ...a return to something like Jim Crow days, redolent of all the old anti-black gimmickry of that time -- literary tests and poll taxes all

Senate Democrats Block Amendment

Senate Democrats on Thursday blocked a Republican attempt to restore military pensions cut in last month’s budget deal, denying a vote that would save up to $20 billion by closing a loophole that allows tax refunds to go to illegal aliens. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D., Calif.) called an effort by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R., N.H.) to repeal the military retiree cuts “fiddling while Rome burns.” Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) “filled the amendment tree” on Thursday, ending debate and blocking any Republican amendments to a bill to extend unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. Among them was Ayotte’s measure, which would repeal cuts to

DENVER -- Food stamps for a pot brownie? It´s an urban myth in Colorado, but state lawmakers want to make sure that doesn´t happen. A bill proposed this week by several Republicans would add marijuana dispensaries to liquor stores, gun shops and casinos as places where recipients of public assistance payments and food stamps can´t use their electronic benefits cards to access cash. There haven´t been any reports of public EBT cards being used at marijuana dispensaries. But lawmakers say pot shops should be added to the law to make clear it´s not legal. "We need this bill, if for nothing else, as

BREAKING: Despite skinny jeans, mocha latte and Chris Hayes, U.S. males still haven’t been adequately feminized. The tragic result: continued bloodshed in American society. That’s the gist of a new documentary called “The Mask You Live In,” by feminist filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The focus of “The Mask” is the male population’s place in and relationship to American culture. Predictably, judging from the trailer and the film’s enthusiastic reception in left-leaning media, traditional masculinity is a leading cause of murder and mayhem. The trailer opens with commonly heard “macho” phrases like, “Be a man,” “Man up,” and “Don’t be weak,” as taken

The share of Americans in the workforce has sunk to its lowest point in 35 years. It´s a sign of both an aging population and of unemployed people who have given up on their dispiriting job hunts. The drop could accelerate in the months ahead because Americans who have been out of work for more than six months have lost their unemployment benefits. Congress is debating whether to renew for a sixth year an emergency program that paid benefits averaging $256 a week. As a requirement to receive unemployment checks, recipients needed to actively look for a job. Without their payments, many

The Constitution deserves its hallowed place in the nation´s consciousness. Yet too often, those who invoke it completely disagree on what it says. How is it that the most important document in our government could be so ambiguous? How could it be that more than three hundred million Americans rely upon nine oracles to interpret it for us? The answer, ironically, is because we let the government hijack the Constitution. It will remain that way unless the states take it back. Party affiliation has largely ceased to matter in the government. What now matters is whether it´s "our guys" in power. In

The pizza arrived, steaming and delectable, a smoked-mozzarella-and-sausage pie presented to Mayor Bill de Blasio like a gilded offering to a visiting caliph. The mayor, on a pilgrimage on Friday to Goodfellas, a venerable Staten Island pizzeria, smiled, nodded at his slice and then proceeded to do the unthinkable: eat it with a knife and fork. Cue the foodie firestorm. “Disaster,” declared a writer at New York magazine, citing the longstanding city protocol of devouring pizza, no matter how greasy, with the hands, and the hands only. One website called it Mr. de Blasio’s first mistake as mayor.

In the cable news ratings race for 2013, Fox News was the clear winner, with MSNBC and CNN duking it out to spin the Silver Medal round, but there’s on category in which MSNBC achieved a level of dominance that none of its competitors can touch. For the same time slot and age demo, CNN held the edge with Hispanic viewers, in a much more level field. 2012 saw MSNBC achieve stunning

Every night’s going to be Halloween night for Hillary. The skeletons in her closet are signing up now for the conga line. They’re impatient to put on their dancing shoes for the 2016 presidential campaign. Like it or not, it’s just around the corner. Even when her friends try to raise their voices in Hillary’s defense, what comes out is mostly static. The attempted whitewash by The New York Times of the hash she made of Benghazi only reminds everyone that she was asleep when the telephone rang at 3 o’clock in the morning. Robert M. Hi, everybody. Yesterday, we learned that in 2013, our businesses created 2.2 million new jobs — including 87,000 last month. Our unemployment rate is the lowest it has been since October 2008. And across our broader economy, there are signs of progress. [Snip] We’ve cut our deficits by more than half. Thanks to the hard work and sacrifice of the American people, our economy is growing stronger. But we know we’ve got more work to do together. It depends on the success of the American people. It depends on your ability to make ends meet and provide for your families.

TRENTON — The New Jersey Legislature today released thousands of pages of subpoenaed documents provided to a state Assembly committee investigating the George Washington Bridge scandal. Many of the documents were given to the panel by an attorney for David Wildstein, a former top official of the Port of New Jersey and New Jersey, and include the e-mails that emerged on Wednesday revealing a top aide to Gov. Chris Christie was directly tied to the traffic-clogging closure of local access lanes leading to the bridge in Fort Lee. Democrats have sought for months to link the lane closures to the

But despite a textbook press conference, his longer-term political problem is likely to be from his own party, where the scandal is giving a legion of under-the-radar Christie skeptics room to criticize the governor.Christie´s base has always been his New Jersey inner circle and Wall Street donors enthused over his electability and pragmatic approach to governance.
