White House looks to salvage
gun-control legislation

Washington Times, by Tim Devaney

The Obama administration took to the airwaves Sunday morning to call on Republicans to back the president’s plan for gun control. In interviews on “Fox News Sunday” and ABC’s “This Week,”Dan Pfeiffer, a senior White House adviser, pointed out that 90 percent of Americans support President Obama’s plan to expand background checks on citizens who purchase guns, and he pressured Republicans to get on board with what he said where “common-sense measures.” “You can’t get 90 percent of Americans to agree on the weather,” Mr. Pfeiffer said on “Fox News Sunday.” Mr. Pfeiffer warned that a potential Republican filibuster

1) I don´t believe 90% of Americans support the President´s plan for background checks.

2) Those that do support his plan don´t know what is involved with background checks, to whom they would apply, what they would cost, and what the result might be.

3) Anytime they want the press can get a ´majority´ simply by manipulating the terms of the discussion. That doesn´t mean a majority wants what the President plans.

The left and media wants you to think that public opinion is behind everything Obama wants, until you start asking real people. To say this is about background checks is way beyond oversimplification.

Are you in favor of people getting healthcare? You won´t find many people against that until you dig into the details of how it´ll work.

Are you wiling to pay triple your premium so other people can get healthcare?

Are you in favor of a 100 years mandatory minimum for someone who uses a gun during the commission of a crime? Yeah and don´t forget to throw away the key.

If Republicans support it, then it´s the final nail in their coffin.

Besides, why doesn´t Barry ever mention those in his own party who oppose?

One would think McCain would know by now what Democrats really want:

That´s right. He doesn´t understand. Why is it that most Republicans know that the purpose of a "debate" is not to hash out a sensible deal; it´s the first step on a slippery slope. McCain should know this. That he doesn´t know it is bizarre.

I agree with #7, we get these percentages all the time and never does anyone ever ask the politician or staffer who says them to back them up with actual data. It´s the same with most statistics we get from different agencies and organizations, no data to back it up and never any questions on where the statistics came from. It´s all BS.

Secondly -- Americans are very aware of the Constituion and the ability of the politicians to play with our freedoms...

Hence the losing battle. I´m sorry for the congresswoman who got shot because of some deranged misfit -- but -- that´s no reason to take MY freedom away.

Is THAT a question for Tim and the rest of the media? Isn´t that the first and last question that frame the debate of how far can fools in government can go in disarming us?

This absurd road leads to knives next, as we can see in England right now and eyeglasses later. Eyeglasses? Read about the rationalization of using eyeglasses as a sorting tool for the Cambodian government when they assumed ultimate power over Cambodians after we left Vietnam.

There aren´t enough law enforcement people in the country to enforce unconstitutional laws that honest people won´t tolerate. This is yet another in a long line of egregious abuses by the current occupier. And for these victims to allow themselves to be used as props to further the left´s pet causes, when none of these measures would have saved their loved ones, well, it´s just Orwellian.

Obama said nothing about gun control or the other big ticket agenda items he now has during the 2012 campaign. It was tax the rich only.

Time is wasting. One of these days, and I hope soon, the Republicans will finally get what´s going on. Rush has accused Obama of a permanent campaign. It´s more than that. He is in permanent Community Organizing mode. He agitates people using lies and tales of the Boogie Man. The result is that people who never participated in the process before turn out. It´s right out of Alinsky. It´s his model and Obama is doing it again.

There is only one way to defeat his plans for taking the House. Get with the program and use Alinsky tactics to neutralize his message. Fight fire with fire and turn the tables. Mock him, question his manhood (as Sarah does so well) i.e. make him a laughing stock. Anything to dilute his ability to rally LowFo people to the polls in 2014. If he wins the House we´re done.

It´s just like Global Warming.

"...Mr. Pfeiffer criticized these NRA suggestions, which are backed by many Republicans, arguing the more guns will only ignite the situation.

“There is no one who’s looked at these issues who thinks that that is the best response,” he said.

You see? There´s a consensus. "Not only do 90% of Americans support background checks, but no one - not anyone - thinks the NRA proposals are the best response. And that includes the NRA leadership, membership, those repubics that back them, and every single American who has looked at the issues and the NRA proposals - and even those school districts and localities who have said, ´Yup, we´re going to implement the NRA proposals.´ No One!"

Just tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Barack Hussein Obama, and about Hillary Clinton and the rest of the gang. If the Conservative opposition really broadcasts the outrageous truth, the liberal heathen media will have a difficult time denying it.

For the long-term unemployed, finding a job is hard — but keeping one may be even harder. New research tracking people who have been out of work for six months or longer found that 23 percent of them landed a job within a few months of the study. But a year later, more than a third of that group was unemployed again or out of the labor force altogether. The findings are the latest in a bleak but growing body of literature suggesting long-term unemployment has become a trap that is difficult to escape. Economists say that means the long-term unemployed could become a permanent underclass, left behind by the nation’s broader

The Social Security Administration announced Monday that it will immediately cease efforts to collect on taxpayers’ debts to the government that are more than 10 years old. The action comes after The Washington Post reported that the government was seizing state and federal tax refunds that were on their way to about 400,000 Americans who had relatives who owed money to Social Security. In many cases, the people whose refunds were intercepted had never heard of any debt, and the debts dated as far back as the middle of the past century. “I have directed an immediate halt to further

Democrats have had a recurring problem in special elections this year: Their voters aren’t turning out. If a weak economy and continued Obamacare problems persist, the November elections could be a disaster for Democrats. Last week, Democrats lost two special elections they weren’t planning to. On the defensive about their prospects in the midterm elections this fall, congressional Democrats have spent all of April savaging the Republican budget proposal, decrying the Koch brothers and championing a series of bills meant to ingratiate themselves to struggling middle-class voters. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Struggling homeowners across the country could face significant new tax bills if they receive mortgage relief from their banks, a prospect that threatens to slow the housing recovery and put further strain on distressed borrowers. The collapse of the housing market and plunging home prices left millions of people stuck owing more on their mortgages than their homes were worth. Some have worked with their banks to reduce the loan amount to avoid foreclosure or enable a sale. In 2007, Congress adopted a law that spared those homeowners from being taxed on the amount of the loan that was forgiven. But

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.

Less than 16 hours after Chelsea Clinton announced she was pregnant, a lot of major news outlets started staring into the crystal ball of Chelsea’s womb, wondering what this currently floating zygotic multicellular being meant for the prospects of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which is also a floating, zygotic, multicellular being. Their answer: The immaculately conceived Clinton child could mean everything. And no, it’s not just the fact that having a grandchild could be personally fulfilling to Hillary and Bill (mazel tov, by the way), or that a cute baby would be a sweet cherry on top of Hillary’s already

The first step is admitting… It was a simple question to someone accustomed to much tougher ones: What was her proudest achievement as secretary of state? But for a moment, Hillary Rodham Clinton, appearing recently before a friendly audience at a women’s forum in Manhattan, seemed flustered.(Snip)So…no definitive successes and some clear-cut failures. And that’s the generous New York Times assessment. The Democrat fantasy story about Mrs. Clinton paints her as strong and accomplished on her own. In reality, this is a woman who is professionally defined almost entirely by two men in her life, both of whom happen to have

Remember when Lois Lerner, in answering a planted question at an American Bar Association conference, admitted the IRS had targeted conservative groups but tried to pass it off as the work of rogue agents — “our line people in Cincinnati”? Today we know there were indeed federal agents involved. But they weren’t rogue, and they weren’t confined to IRS workers in Cincinnati. Thanks to a Freedom of Information request by Judicial Watch, we now have an e-mail Lerner sent to colleagues noting the Department of Justice was looking into criminal prosecutions of these tax-exempt groups. We know something else, too. These investigations
