Is the U.S. becoming

Power Line, by Paul Mirengoff

Eliana Johnson reports that four Republican members of the Senate Judiciary — Jeff Sessions, Chuck Grassley, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz — are calling for transparency from their GOP colleagues in the “Gang of Eight” that is drafting immigration reform legislation. In a letter to John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, and Jeff Flake, the four Judiciary Committee members express concern that an immigration reform bill will be rushed through Congress without proper oversight in the form of hearings and robust debate. They note that the Gang has “secretly met for months” without consulting

The Democrats rammed through Obamacare this way and it should not be allowed to happen again on any issue of great importance to the country. The citizens should vent their anger and rage against Washington politicians during the 2014 midterms.

It is infuriating that this tiny group of small minds and big egos is meeting in secret to conduct the people´s business. Obviously something produced in this nefarious way will not be good for most Americans, but we don´t count anymore. Obamacare was enacted agsinst the will of the people. US involvement in Libya, giving control of huge weapon stockpiles to al qaeda, was carried out by O with the support of McCain, Graham and Rubio, but otherwise without Congress. And we know how the Libyan adventure has turned out for four Americans and the nation of Mali. I don´t know what kind of government we have, but it is not one operating according to the Constitution.

Any gaggle of thieves that gather in the dark and secretive are up to no good.

The names McCain, Graham and Schumer sends me a message that we will be screwed...again.

Rubio is not impressing me on this subject either. He´s just tettering on the edge with the phony ´secure the border first´ as his diversion before he caves. Rubio wants more Spanish speaking hoards in the country.

There should be no splinter groups doing dirty work against the people for no good reason. Secure the border and bring home the troops. That´s a plan then deport the captured illegals that broke into this country illegally. We don´t need them.
Put that in your bi-partisan pipes and smoke it ´gaggle of 8´.

GOP’s and Dems go at it on Tuesday in the first of Texas’ 2014 primaries, which aim to set a precedent for either blue or red in the Battleground State. The following five questions are sure to be answered. The first primary election of 2014 will happen in Texas on Tuesday. Lone Star State voters will go to the polls in a series of primaries that will measure Tea Party fervor as well as whether Democrats have made the most basic organizational strides in the state. But the primary may only be the first preliminary election in the state, as

Vladimir Putin has taken the measure of Barack Obama. He’s found Jimmy Carter. Like Jimmy Carter, who boasted he was free of any “inordinate fear of communism,” Obama began his term as president vowing to “reset” relations with Russia. Like Jimmy Carter, who conveyed weakness when Iran took our embassy staff hostage, Obama confirmed his own weakness when he drew a red line in Syria and then backed down from enforcing it. Like Jimmy Carter, who was rewarded by Leonid Brezhnev with a Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Putin has returned Obama’s favor with a Russian invasion of Ukraine. And just like Carter, who responded

We now know — even the Associated Press, better described as the Administration’s Press, has now acknowledged it — that President Barack Obama, in AP’s words, “did not participate” in a White House meeting of his national security team Saturday morning “to get updates on the situation and discuss policy options” in reaction to Russia’s invasion and takeover of Crimea and threatened military intervention in the rest of Ukraine. Those who need help getting past AP’s whitewashing need to understand that “did not participate” means “did not attend.” Last time I checked, the president of the United States was the nation’s

The paradox at the heart of foreign policy realism, is that the same, all-powerful West which is capable of overthrowing governments with the flip of a switch is incapable of confronting Russian hard power. On May 31, 1989, President George H.W. Bush delivered a speech in Mainz, West Germany entitled “A Europe Whole and Free.” Bush envisioned a continent composed of democratic states shorn of the Cold War division that had scarred Europe for over 40 years. Seven months later, the Berlin Wall collapsed, sparking the downfall of communist dictatorships across Central and Eastern Europe and the collapse of the Soviet

THE COMMON wisdom holds that the GOP 2016 presidential race will boil down to a joust between the “establishment” and the “insurgents.” The former will allegedly be more moderate and the latter more conservative. Since most polls for two decades have shown that around two-thirds to 70 percent of self-described Republicans call themselves conservative, this elite narrative will focus on just how much the establishment candidate will need to be pulled to the right in order to fend off his insurgent challenger. And since the Tea Party has clearly become a vocal and powerful insurgent element in the GOP, the

The federal government has provided more than a billion dollars in loan guarantees since 2009 to an Arab airline that has literally wiped Israel off the map. Etihad Airways, a United Arab Emirates-based airline, scrubbed any mention of Israel or its major cities from a map showing its travel routes in the area. Etihad receives $425,000 annually from the Department of Homeland Security, the New York Post reported on Monday. But those subsidies are a fraction of U.S. taxpayer support for the company. The Export-Import Bank, a U.S. federal agency that subsidizes purchases of American products abroad, has backed loans worth nearly $1.3

WASHINGTON — Senator Mitch McConnell still has a few obstacles to overcome to become Senate majority leader next year. First, he has to win his own primary and general election back in Kentucky, where his popularity has suffered. Then his fellow Republicans have to pick up at least six seats for the party to take over the Senate for the first time since 2006. It is not inconceivable at this point, and Mr. McConnell has been giving considerable thought to how he would run the Senate if given the chance. On the centenary of World War I, Europe´s suddenly facing a crisis of Russian aggression. Why NATO must make a show of strength and reassure its Eastern members. Ever since Russia’s not-so-stealthy invasion of the Crimea in Ukraine at the end of the week, rhetoric has rung out in Washington and in Europe like a call to arms. Except that it’s not—or not yet. “There will be costs,” said President Barack Obama. It is obvious that Russia is conducting an invasion of Ukraine. This violates the 1994 Budapest Memorandum between Russia, Ukraine, the United States and Britain, in which each party agreed to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Russia´s claim that it is acting to protect the rights of Russian citizens in Ukraine is redolent of Hitler´s claims that he was taking over Czechoslovakia and the free city of Danzig and attacking Poland to protect ethnic Germans. Russia has treaty rights in its naval base in Crimea, but it has gone much farther by taking over the whole peninsula; it is

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President and autocrat, had a plan for the winter of 2014: to reassert his country’s power a generation after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He thought that he would achieve this by building an Olympic wonderland on the Black Sea for fifty-one billion dollars and putting on a dazzling television show. It turns out that he will finish the season in a more ruthless fashion, by invading a peninsula on the Black Sea and putting on quite a different show—a demonstration war that could splinter a sovereign country and turn very bloody, very quickly. FOR FIVE YEARS, President Obama has led a foreign policy based more on how he thinks the world should operate than on reality. It was a world in which “the tide of war is receding” and the United States could, without much risk, radically reduce the size of its armed forces. Other leaders, in this vision, would behave rationally and in the interest of their people and the world. Invasions, brute force, great-power games and shifting alliances — these were things of the past. Secretary of State John F. Kerry displayed this mindset on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday when he
