Hakken family with kidnapped
boys may be on sailboat

Tampa Bay Times [St. Petersburg], by John Martin

Original Article

TAMPA — They could be near Key West, in a cove or far out in the Gulf of Mexico by now. On Friday, authorities said the man who kidnapped his young children Wednesday is likely with his family on a 25-foot sailboat. And though the seas were choppy during Thursday´s storms, deputies say 35-year-old Joshua Hakken knows how to sail. Surveillance video even recorded him loading supplies onto the boat Wednesday, indicating the escape was planned. The U.S. Coast Guard and state marine units were scouring the water Friday. Civilian boaters also got a description of the sailboat

Comments:
[Dan Sullivan and Kameel Stanley contributed to the article]

During the past twenty-four hours there have been heavy rains in the area. Traveling by sailboat in stormy conditions will be an ordeal. Florida Marine Patrol or Coast Guard will arrest these two, who after losing custody of their sons, kidnapped the boys from the grandparents, who were left tied up in their home. The father is armed, irrational, and presumed dangerous.

Period.
I hope they get away, NO ONE has the right to take your children from you, I don´t care what the excuse is, it is still BS.

These parents are suicidal and acting in an extremely bizarre and suicidal fashion. Taking them out of the household and placing them with their grandmother was the right and proper thing to do. The children are NOT their parents property. I hope the kids are OK. Although I don´t have a good feeling about this.

Those who are pounding on "the government" for taking away these children should read the article and think again lest they continue to look seriously uninformed - or ridiculous.

The act of having children does not make people parents, nor are their children their property with which they can whatever they wish.

A Washington Post report that the US has decided to deploy ground forces to Poland, ostensibly to act as a tripwire to deter further Russian threats, raises some interesting issues. (Snip) The net effect will be to force Obama to do either do what Poland hopes — pivot to Europe — or clearly abandon it. Pivoting to Europe must leave the Pacific exposed. To cover all bases Obama will have to postpone his plan to fundamentally transform America into a welfare-type state and use that money to rebuild the military. Poland may be trying to hustle Obama into being decisive,

An avalanche has left 12 dead and four missing in the worst-ever recorded disaster on Mount Everest. With peak season just days away on the deadly mountain, Sherpas and guides are busy preparing for the trek up the highest peak in the world. "The Sherpa guides were carrying up equipment and other necessities for climbers when the disaster happened," a spokesman for Nepal´s Tourism Ministry, Mohan Krishna Sapkota, told the AFP news agency. Before a climber begins the ascent, hired Sherpas set up camps at higher altitudes and fix routes and ropes on the slopes above. The Sherpa guides had

A surprise deal has been reached at the Four Party talks in Geneva, which the president touted as his diplomatic option. (Snip) This doesn’t sound very victorious. But the president’s style is to bluff his way to victory. Recently he claimed that the Obamacare debate was over even though he’s ordered the census bureau to revise its metrics so nothing can be measured. He’s even reserved the right to make changes to the program, claiming the Republicans have no right to input until they change their attitude. Too bad that doesn’t work with Putin. Judge Carlos Cortez flirted with disaster for years. Until recently, politics and good lawyers helped save him. Democratic Party power brokers knew of his abusive language, a drunken driving charge and sexual harassment rumors. Still, they helped Cortez raise $1 million in a decade — more campaign cash than any other district judge in Texas. He spent much of it, a Dallas Morning News investigation shows, on a legal fight to suppress far more damning allegations: that he used cocaine, paid for sex, choked a woman who accused him of fathering her son, and sexually assaulted a little girl.

This insider vocabulary includes terms that may seem a bit comical ("houseable," meaning the artwork fits in a normal-size living room) or contradictory (objects in a museum may be on "permanent loan," which is a loan no one has any intention of paying back, or donated as a "fractional gift," meaning the owner may keep possession of the piece while donating it in installments over time). GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like

President Obama asserts that 8 million people have signed up for Obamacare, as though that were something to be proud of. In fact, Obamacare has always been a fiasco from a fiscal perspective–a black hole of subsidies and expanded Medicaid, with largely fictitious mechanisms in place to pay for it. As the number of subsidized participants grows, the disaster gets worse. Charles Blahous explains: Our national discussion…is missing the truly significant story here; what is unfolding before our eyes is a colossal fiscal disaster, poised to haunt legislators and taxpayers for decades to come. “On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist

A furor over what the Topeka school district considers an honor has erupted after plans were announced for Obama to address a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools next month an 8,000-seat arena.
