Mass. delegation pushes for Energy
Dept. loan for Cape Wind

Boston Herald, by Marie Szaniszlo

The entire Massachusetts congressional delegation has written a letter urging the Department of Energy to act quickly on Cape Wind’s loan guarantee application so that the first off-shore wind farm in the country can move forward. “Cape Wind is critical for three reasons. It will create much-needed jobs, provide an economic boost to the southern part of the commonwealth and promote the clean-energy technology that is critical to the future of our country,” said Rep. Bill Keating. “Further, being home to the country’s first off-shore wind farm will establish Massachusetts as a hub of new energy technology,

Even land-based windmills will never produce as much energy in their lives as they take to make & place them, all of which such energy to make & place coming from fossil fuel sources.

Off-shore windmills cost and use at least twice as much energy/resources.

If this is such a tremendous deal, why doesn´t each of the delegation supporting the wind farm kick in 100,000 apiece. My great grandfather supported building the first highway bridge across the Missouri River at St Charles, MO. He and his cohorts kicked in $10,000 apiece in 1900 to support the project until they could raise private investment.

Did the article say how much they want guaranteed? Did I miss that?

The project has various estimates but $2.5b and up seems close enough. A big Japanese bank is leading the financing. And why not if it will be guaranteed?

There is some wind energy outfit in MO who is trying to build powerlines right through the middle of my brother´s farm in IL as well as many other farmers in the area. I know they wouldn´t be doing this without money from the government and I wonder how long they will be in business even if this goes through. The travesty is that they want to take some of my brother´s prime farmland and will split his farm into and for what?

(Israel) The Australian Woodside Petroleum company signed a $2.5 billion deal to enter the Leviathan gas field in offshore Israel. The owners of Leviathan were in Australia this week to try to finalize a year-old non-binding deal, worth up to $2.3 billion, The Australian daily reported. Woodside will pay more than it had originally offered to enter the gas field because its owners want to pipe much of the gas to Turkey and other regional countries. Pipeline exports to Turkey require less development spending, which would increase the value of the gasfield.

Prospective foster parents with rap sheets listing criminal convictions for armed assault, drug trafficking, motor vehicle homicide and even soliciting sex from a minor could be cleared to take at-risk children into their homes under a standing policy at the state’s embattled child welfare agency. The stunning rules, tucked inside the Department of Children and Families’ handbook on criminal record checks and updated six years ago, allow foster parents with checkered pasts to take charge of endangered kids in the agency’s care. Among the crimes DCF policy might forgive would-be foster parents after screening their applications: • Offenses such as inducing sex from

Under the first, a provider would have to certify the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest or the abortion was performed to save
