North Korea moves second missile

North Korea has transported two more missiles to the east coast, Seoul military sources have revealed, triggering speculation that it is ready for an abrupt missile launch. North Korea has loaded two intermediate-range missiles onto mobile launchers and hidden them in an unidentified facility near the east coast, South Korea´s Yonhap news agency has said. "It has been confirmed that North Korea, early this week, transported two Musudan mid-range missiles by train to the east coast and loaded them on vehicles equipped with launch pads," Yonhap quoted the official as saying. The official said the mobile launchers had since

So they move these nukes into range of our bases, and what are we doing about it? Couldn´t our air power take out these missiles first along with the vast majority of their offensive capabilities? We could EMP their whole network and they´re launch capability would be neutralized. We´d then have to go after their ground forces. Its a dirty, messy situation. Our only other alternative is to sit and wait, hoping nothing will happen.

Global solar dominance in sight
as science trumps fossil fuels
Telegraph [UK], by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard    Original Article

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle. Michael Parker and Flora Chang, at Sanford Bernstein, say we entering a new order of "global energy deflation" that must ineluctably erode the viability of oil, gas and the fossil fuel nexus over time.

Kathleen Sebelius STILL can´t say how

Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius said Thursday that 7.5 million Americans had enrolled in Obamacare insurance coverage by the time the dust settled on April 1, but reused to tell senators how many of them were already covered before the law took full effect. The question is an important one: Republicans claim that most of those who signed up are Americans who lost their existing policies in 2013 because they didn´t meet the Affordable Care Act´s strict and sometimes bewildering minimum standards. President Barack Obama promised that his signature insurance overhaul law would dramatically reduce the ranks of the

House Speaker John Boehner blasted Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday for suggesting that Republicans only attack him because he´s black. ´There is no issue of race here,´ he told a reporter during his weekly press briefing on Capitol Hill. Holder went off-script Wednesday during a speech to Al Sharpton´s National Action Network, slammed Republicans for consistently attacking him and Barack Obama because they are the first African-Americans to hold their jobs. ´What attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?´ he said, alluding to his status as the only African-American ever to hold that post.

One week ago, President Obama was celebrating. 7.1 million Americans had signed up to his landmark law. Today however, it’s the same old story. Once again, Obamacare is critical. The latest crisis? For Americans who don’t yet possess health insurance, the US health care market is now effectively on lockdown until the year’s end. Yes, you heard that right. [Snip] The flowing narrative is all too clear--didn’t sign up by the President’s shifting deadlines? Take a hike. This latest incident speaks volumes about Obamacare--a law that was born in arrogant partisanship and is now defined by utter absurdity.

Republicans on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee won a vote Wednesday demanding the Justice Department criminally prosecute Lois Lerner, the former Internal Revenue Service official at the center of a scheme to slow-walk tax-exempt applications from conservative groups. They claim she committed three federal crimes punishable by a total of 11 years in prison. The panel voted 23-14, along party lines, to approve a letter instructing Attorney General Eric Holder to charge Lerner and prosecute her in court. The Justice Department has said it already has its own investigation into the conduct of Lerner and other Obama administration officials in what

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. There’s a big spike in Medicaid, just as everyone expected. There’s a less big but

A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or
