How to Survive a Sex Scandal:
Mark Sanford Edition

Daily Beast, by David Freedlander

Original Article

How do you survive a sex scandal? Public-relations reps and crisis-communications counselors have made careers of dispensing advice on such matters. And so the usual counsel follows a fairly trite and untested path: Be honest from the start. Apologize. Make sure your wife stands behind you. Hogwash, for the most part. Everyone apologizes, nearly everyone’s wife is supportive, and no one is honest from the start. But still some politicians survive sordid situations, and some do not. Why? Let’s allow history to be our guide. There are more than enough examples to choose from. It was only Tuesday that former South Carolina governor

Mark Sanford´s wife certainly didn´t stand behind him or even keep a diplomatic silence. Instead she chummed all the news shows and more, gave magazine and newspaper interviews (including Vogue), did another tell-all with Baba Wawa and wrote a book about her life with Sanford.

Sanford made a mess when he gave a press conference about his personal life but after that he stayed silent. It was Jenny who rushed to all the interviews--and then rushed back to the $3.5 million beach house on Sullivans Island.

http://tinyurl.com/d5x7bpq

Last I heard of Mrs. Sanford was a year ago when she was contesting a fine for letting her dog run loose at Sullivans.

If Sanford was such a lousy husband why did his sons appear with him on the podium--along with his fiancée?

Sorry, but I think this is another put-up job...wherein the Dims swing the vote to a weak/vulnerable candidate that they can then beat in the general.

He may or may not have been a lousy husband before his wife may or may not have become a lousy wife. But, first you get the divorce. Then you run around with your sweetie. To conduct your affair otherwise is to humiliate your family, where the sons had nothing to do with who was a bad spouse first.

If the D.B. REALLY wants to know "how to survive a sex scandal" they should ask the former W.H.-sexual-predator, bill clinton..surely he can take a few minutes out of his busy "statesman of the century" duties to answer them. BTW, If democrats can cross over and elect GOP candidates during the primaries in S.C. that would explain how Mark Sanford won. If so, we will lose one more seat from a red state to the SISTER of stephen cobert! The fact that Sanford "cheated" on his wife is not even the main point. He lied to the people he represented and no one even knew where he actually was half the time when he WAS Governor.

First don´t do it in the first place, and not just because it looks bad. Honor is more than a news cycle.

Yet after a public adultery, the next best thing is to behave honorably.

The public understands love - IF it is true love. TRUE love is subject to redemption. The public WANTS folks to find true love.

I read the family situation was not always as being the beauty of a rose---apparently the Mrs. had a habit of belittling him in front of family and friends, touting her financial status is what made him.

Seems like there is another side of the story.

Adultery is now a scandal? Shouldn´t this issue be between Mr. Sanford and his wife? I guess I´m missing the scandal part.

President Obama is right. He told Major Garrett of CBS this week that “Mr. Putin’s decisions aren’t just bad for Ukraine. Over the long term, they’re going to be bad for Russia.” I believe that Putin’s adventures in Russia’s “near abroad” are a mistake. Indeed, they are part of a whole tapestry of wrongheadedness. It’s also bad for the Kremlin to crush dissent, censor the news, and hobble the economy by handing it over to oligarchs and a kleptocratic bureaucracy. Putin’s scapegoating and demonizing of gays isn’t only morally wrong, it’s not in Russia’s long-term interests either. That Putin prefers to

Washington -- Louisiana Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu is in the middle of a storm. She is beset by well-funded forces on the right who sense the Gulf Coast Democrat´s vulnerability in trying to defend a Senate seat in a red state. On the left, she is trying to avoid being pulled down by the undertow of a president whose decline in approval ratings and controversial health care reform law might not play well with her state´s conservative sensibilities. President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn.
