Police Militarization, Abuses of Power,

Accuracy in Media, by James Simpson

These are trying times. Never in the history of this country have we been so weakened and polarized by what many view as deliberate government policy. Now anti-gunners in the U.S. Congress, the Obama administration, and legislatures across the country are seeking to exploit the Newtown tragedy to promote their “gun control” agenda that envisions federal, universal background checks on gun purchases, and that could lead to gun registration and confiscation. At the same time, the increasing militarization of law enforcement, most visibly demonstrated by the growing use of massive, SWAT-type raids on businesses and individuals, sometimes with federal

Should have added that Simpson goes on to list and explore in detail a significant number of examples to back up his thinking about where we seem to be headed.

Since some of the Parents of the Newtown shooting have chosen to be used as pawns in public, WHY can´t someone ask them what in the current or in the proposed gun laws would have prevented the death of their child. Answer, nothing.
Mental illness killed their children, there are things beyond our control.

So sorry I read the article. It is the stuff of nightmares. Top down, bottom up, inside out, scary.

The swat team started in the 1960s, ironic that only a small number of the Weather Underground group were stopped by force. Now they rule the country from the inside and laugh and determine who they should target next.

Robert Redford, Columbia U. have made heroes of the former Weather Undergrounders. We are indeed, upside down. I hope his movie fails.

I never heard of this 1033 program where DOD gives away nearly half a billion dollars worth of leftover military gear to law enforcement is FY-2011, including grenade launchers, helicopters, military robots, M-16s, armored vehicles, amphibious tank, machine-gun-equipped APC, etc. If Congress passed 1033 for drug and anti-terrorism, then why are the jack boots in the SBA, FDA, Dept of Ed, and any other alphabet agency using it to terrorize citizens for purported little crimes? Hmmmm??

Hong Kong banned live chicken sales and will cull about 20,000 birds at a wholesale market after a sample imported from mainland China tested positive for the H7N9 avian influenza virus. KIEV, Ukraine — Mykola Azarov, the prime minister of Ukraine, resigned on Tuesday, hours before a planned vote of no confidence in Parliament that could have stripped him of his powers. The resignation came shortly after the pro-government Party of Regions joined with opposition lawmakers on Tuesday to repeal most of the laws in a package of legislation restricting freedom of speech and assembly that was enacted only last week. Together, the resignation and repeals were significant concessions by Ukraine’s embattled president, Viktor F. Yanukovych, as well as clear signs of the building momentum of opposition to his rule. President Obama will speak to the nation Tuesday night with approval ratings lower than for any of his previous State of the Union addresses and with Americans broadly pessimistic that he or lawmakers of either party will make good decisions for the future of the country, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Obama’s general weakness and the overall lack of confidence in the country’s political leadership provide a stark backdrop to the beginning of a potentially significant election year. Obama is looking to rebound from what many have judged to be the worst year of his presidency while

Farm bill ends subsidies,

A group of bipartisan lawmakers on Monday agreed to a deal on a farm bill that would end direct subsidies to farms in favor of crop insurance. The deal could trim as much as $90 a month from food stamps for 850,000 recipients. The farm bill would last five years and needs to pass both chambers and then be signed by the president. The bill could be passed before the spring planting season. That´s significant because farmers need to know early how it might affect prices and what to expect for their corn, wheat or tobacco yields. The bill changes the current agricultural subsidy

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas started a trend by making most of its high school students tackle algebra II. But eight years later, the state often watched for education policy is abandoning the requirement. The move is being praised by school districts for affording them more flexibility. But some policy experts are nervous because nearly 20 states have since followed Texas´ lead in requiring the advanced math course. Supporters say fewer curriculum mandates give students more time to focus on vocational training for high-paying jobs that don´t necessarily require a college degree.
