SEOUL — North Korea dramatically escalated its warlike rhetoric on Thursday, warning that it had authorised plans for nuclear strikes on targets in the United States. "The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the North Korean military said, warning that war could break out "today or tomorrow". Pyongyang´s latest pronouncement came as Washington scrambled to reinforce its Pacific missile defences, preparing to send ground-based interceptors to Guam and dispatching two Aegis class destroyers to the region. Tension was also high on the North´s heavily-fortified border with South Korea,
At this point, if we had a serious leader in Washington, we´d hit the Little Boy Who Would Be Dictator now with a pre-emptive strike and be done with him. Unfortunately, we´re saddled with Barry the Dithering and Incompetent, so I guess we´ll have to suffer a blow before the grown-ups finally kick him to the curb and take some decisive action.
Well, the time for this to have been fixed was long ago, certainly long before we were faced with the threat of a nuclear attack. So I can only partly blame BHO. However, I do blame him too. Clinton and Bush also kicked the can down the road. Clinton worse so than Bush but nonetheless here we are. Now what can BHO do except make ready the battle stations. There is insufficient information to conclude he is doing nothing. You veterans all know we are putting assets on line, with eyes and ears in the sky and under the surface transmitting vital info. While we ready we can only wait and see.
That little fat NK dumpling never HAD it to begin with. I DO think Americans will not tolerate another "boots on the ground" action. So, Daisy Cutters will have to suffice, and Obama has to learn that war means protecting our safety, and collateral damage to the enemy is the natural effect of war declared on us. Time to end this garbage between North and South Korea. Time to liberate the poor souls in N Korea..way past time.
Why frett. The sorrowful truth is that we have a man in the W.H. who hates this country, hates Americans, and will not blink an eye if we have a nuclear strike. He´s just not interested in anything but building his "Legacy".
possibility #1: little boy has a death wish and believes his own propaganda, gambling that O will do nothing meaningful
possibility #2: China and Russia are pushing him along behind the scenes. China will seize the islands that they have been demanding while we are thus occupied. Both will benefit from a US military disaster
possibility #3: little boy will have his Iranian allies open a second front in the Middle East to spread our military and both he and Iran will cruise to victory.
They have been lying to us, the proof is in the article. Not that I am surprised, but this is the first public admission that I have seen that "they have nuclear weapons and the missiles to deliver them".
We can be suspicious all we want, but until our government verifies it, all it is is suspicion. Now, they have verified it. They knew all along, but are only responding now.
Obama, and only Obama, will be responsible for any outcome from this. They knew, they lulled us into a false sense of complacency by denying he had capability.
Now, they admit he has capability, and no one blinks. What?!
I say again, they ADMIT (Hagel) NK has capability, and no one blinks. Is anyone awake?
Oh come on. If you can´t see how this will turn out, you were asleep last November. North Korea? Are you kidding? This is happening for the sole purpose of raising the Magic Marxist´s poll numbers and rise they will because 51 percent of Americans are utter complete morons and will buy ANYTHING from His Holy High Worshipfulness. Relax, no nukes are going to blow up unless they´re ours on N Korea. No matter what happens, it´s designed to make Obama look "presidential" and fool the fidiots who adore him.
I dunno...it is times like this that I wish we had the Reagan administration in charge again. I feel like I am reliving the Carter era and just waiting for the bomb to come...Ugh. The only light I see at the end of the tunnel is a train!!
"They have nuclear capacity now, they have missile delivery capacity now," Hagel said after a strategy speech at the National Defense University. "We take those threats seriously, we have to take those threats seriously."
The first public admission from this administration NK has the capability. Is no one reading the article, or is everyone lulled by the administrations´ attempts to downplay the seriousness?
Send Dennis Rodman back over. Tell UnUnUn that if he behaves himself he´ll get him a date with Carmen Electra. And we´ll send Jug Ears over and they can discuss how to destroy the economy of a country over a plate of dog.
So North Korea nukes Los Angeles, and the Obama administration is unable to either prevent the attack, or to retaliate, due to defense department cuts due to the sequester, which is of course the Republicans´ fault.
Tell me just which world leader is impressed that ooh, we have moved warships to the area. Nobody believes the US will do anything courageous or meaningful under this politically-correct, wimpy leadership.
And so far, the stock market could care less about NK..but...it did drop a 100 points today on the Dow. Obie, would you please take this kid KimJong out for a beer (if he is old enough to drink) and settle him down. Or teach him some golf the Obie way and see what happens.
A reminder from the past: Truman was considering using the A-Bomb in 1950 to end the Korean conflict after it became clear that China had thrown its military into that conflict on the side of North Korea.
For those who don´t know, it is normal Cold War Commie SOP to threaten war when they are doing something else really bad, like bringing nuclear weapons online. It has nothing to do with the little fat boy´s ego. Notice that the Chinese are moving troops up to their border with NK, a la 1950. The Chinese fully approve of what the Norks are doing. NK is their surrogate to twit us and drain off hundreds of billions of our dollars in defending SK.
Back in the Cold War era, there were B52 bombers loaded with nuclear weapons on permanent flight patterns circling high above the sky ready at a moments notice in case of outbreak of war. There should be nuclear armed B52 s flying over the Korean Peninsula now to instantaneously attack North Korean missile and artillery sites as well as command and control centers.
I am fully expecting that NK is going to be the beginning.
For those willing to see, all the indications are that the big one is coming.
I cannot be the only one who sees that time is collapsing, or at least appears to be so. By that I mean things are happening faster. I do not mean that this is due to the internet. All I can say is the time is so close, I am at once fearful, but hopeful. What else can save us now? We have so rapidly entered into unchartered waters. God help us all. Empires, Cultures, perhaps even more beyond our ken, have imagined that they too have a better understanding of the human condition. They are now only speculation. Will the glory of the USA become a myth such as Atlantis?
Crisis ? What crisis ? There ain´t no stinkin crisis ! I got the Final Four to watch this weekend with my amor Reggie Love, the weather looks to be good for a few rounds, Michelle is off somewhere ( apparently there is a God ) lavishly spending the taxpayers money and Grandma Robinson is taking care of the girls. Life is grand. All I have to worry about is whether Reggie made it to the salon for a waxing and how soon my White House servants can fire up the hot tub.
From what I have read, if North Korea attacks South Korea it could be by using a nuclear mine of some sort. NK doesn´t really have the missile capability or a nuclear warhead small enough to fit on a rocket. But they could tunnel underground inside South Korean territory and set off a nuke under some large city. I have heard of SK finding North Korean tunnels in the past. On the other hand, now we know how Israel must feel when Iran threatens to annhilate them daily. In fact, this warlike rhetoric sounds almost exactly like the same kind of threats Iran uses against Israel daily and we know Iran and NK are working together against the U.S.
Jimmah Carter´s disasterous presidency just keeps coming back to bite us. The entire radical Muslim problem can be laid at his feet and he was the one who brokered the deal with the Norks for Clinton which let them make nuclear materials "for energy purposes only". He even saw to it that we helped fund it for them. I hope Ted Kennedy is saving a seat for him - he has earned it.
In some ways, the little fat guy is being rational. Look at what he sees over the past few months: Benghazi, followed by our new First Team of Kerry, Hagel, and now Caroline Kennedy as Ambassador to Japan! For Kim Jong-Un, what´s to fear?
Much as I would savor the thought of baby Kim roasting on a nuke barbecue, I would not wish the same fate on his helpless captives who have been suffering tremendously under gramp & daddy Kim for decades.
Perhaps, a drone-fired Hellfire through his bedroom would be the ticket to a well-deserved hot permanent vacation spot.
He´ll do nothing. This is merely bluster for his ´adoring´ citizens.
China would never let him get away with it if he really intended to do this. China has too much of our debt. We buy way too much of their plastic crap and they haven´t stolen enough of our intellectual property to become a significant world super power.
My apologies, but this just drives me nutso. Memo to Jung Ha-Won, the editor(s) of Agence France-Presse, and anyone else who might care that there is a right way and a wrong way to write about the US Military. There is a difference between a regiment and a battalion, between a squadron and a wing. Our military is built upon proper communications and that necessarily entails referring to things in the proper way. There is NO SUCH THING as an "Aegis class" anything in the way of US Navy ships. Not a cruiser, not a destroyer, not an anything. Ships classes are named after the first ship of the class to be launched. Cruisers are currently Ticonderoga class, and destroyers are currently Arleigh Burke class. Aegis is a highly agile fire control and target tracking system, with which each ship of each of those classes is equipped.
Nuke Pyongyang. Only the "privileged" are allowed to live in the city. The privileged are those that are the most faithful to the little fat boy and the ones that receive all the foreign aid and food while others starve.
It seems the sex molesters over at Homeland insecurity have bought up enough bullets to all commit suicide. Why is it that our missile defense ships have been berthed in some harbors here, and now have to race over to Guam to defend us against the chief wee man in N. Korea.
Congressman Hank Johnson stated today that all those ships and troops are going to tip Guam up-side-down. I also understand that our brave talkative president has traveled to the center of Russia to play golf and to hide inside of a converted underground commune. I also heard that our former SOS Hillary now says she has never heard of a place called North Korea and Jon Carry has seconded that. If they do send something our way some conservative in the Pentagon will make N. Korea a glass field. He will have to because there won´t be anyone else around to give the orders.
Earlier Tuesday, NBC News reported that President Barack Obama had shaken hands with Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe. However, the UK Telegraph´s Josie Ensor reported that Obama "was asked to take his seat just before reaching Mugabe." Complicating matters, another article in the UK Telegraph also claimed that Obama had shaken hands with Mugabe--in very similar terms to those used in the NBC article. Breitbart News caught the discrepancy--and suddenly the NBC News article was corrected, with no notice. Before: On his way to the rostrum, Obama also shook the hand of Robert Mugabe, the strongman ruler of Zimbabwe, and hugged Dilma Rousseff, the
The budget deal announced Tuesday by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) would boost federal spending by around $65 billion over the next two years. This new spending is offset by increasing user fees, boosting pension contributions by federal employees and the military, and other minor changes. Ryan and Murray also say that the deal will reduce the deficit by $23 billion over the next 10 years. This reduction, however, doesn´t start until 2022. According to a 4-page summary document of the deal obtained by Breitbart News, "[t]he budget proposal saves $28 billion over ten years by requiring
President Obama will extend his mini-amnesty for young illegals, said Cecilia Muñoz, White House director of domestic policy. “As long as this president” is in power, “you will be able to renew your deferred action,” Muñoz told one questioner during an online question-and-answer session on immigration conducted via Skype. So far, Obama’s deputies have granted the two-year “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” amnesty to at least 567,563 illegals, giving them the right to get jobs in every state, get drivers’ licenses in some states, to enroll in school and to receive government aid. Only 21,162 illegals have been rejected. Roughly 11 million
The White House insisted Wednesday that President Obama’s credibility had not been damaged by the botched rollout of Obamacare, despite a series of recent polls showing his diminished standing with the American public. "I don´t think I agree with that conclusion,” White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said of the assertion that fewer Americans trust the president because of broken promises over his signature domestic achievement. However, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that 54 percent of respondents disapproved of the president’s job performance, driven mainly by the problem-plagued rollout of Obamacare. Fifty-eight percent of those surveyed said Obamacare was
The death of iconic South African leader Nelson Mandela prompted torrents of gushing praise from world leaders and media this week. Mandela was widely depicted as a near-flawless human being. BBC presenter Evan Davis said Mandela ranked near Jesus in the "pantheon of virtue"; Bono said Mandela was "stubborn ´til the end for all the right reasons, it felt like he very nearly outstared his maker." But the truth about Mandela is somewhat more shaded. He will be remembered for his magnificent legacy of racial unification in the aftermath of his release from prison in 1990. Mandela´s critics worried, not unreasonably,
Imagine if a provision in ObamaCare allowed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to dictate directly to doctors which services they could and could not provide their patients—what individual tests they could conduct, which treatments they could offer, and medicines they could prescribe. Americans would be outraged. Yet some Republicans on Capitol Hill are about to help Democrats pass such a provision for Medicare patients. The Senate Finance Committee is set to vote on permanent "doc-fix" legislation Thursday that grants the federal government broad new authority to determine "applicable appropriate use criteria" for the full range of outpatient medical
Most of Washington seems to have bought the White House claim that the 36 federal exchanges are finally working, and glory, glory, hallelujah. But if that´s really true, then what explains the ongoing secrecy and evasion? On Wednesday the Health and Human Services Department continued its Victorian-era strip tease and allowed a glimpse into the Affordable Care Act´s "enrollment" for November. Out of respect for a free press, reporters ought to boycott these releases because they´re so selective that they reveal little about real enrollment. But we´ll try to parse the data as best we can without the White House high
Federal Spending: The hue and cry over the two-year budget deal masks the real threat facing the country — the vast and potentially permanent expansion of government by President Obama during his first five years in office. Michael Needham, who heads Heritage Action for America, called the budget deal put together by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., a "step backward." He´s right. The plan relies on some of the worst budget gimmicks around. It boosts spending in the next two years by $63 billion, for example, while spreading the promised $85 billion in cuts over 10 years. But it is,
Revelation: Colin Powell, George W. Bush´s secretary of state, has confirmed the suspicion that derailed his plan to run for president: He´s not just a liberal, but a socialist. It´s been a long time ago now, but Powell was once the dream Republican presidential candidate for a lot of pundits, campaign experts and ordinary Americans who appreciated his outstanding military service and pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps success story. Now we find that Powell is with the extreme left of the Democratic Party on health care, supporting European-style single-payer socialized medicine. "I don´t see why we can´t do what Europe is doing, what Canada is doing, what
Diplomacy: President Obama extended a hearty handshake to Cuba´s iron-fisted dictator Raul Castro just as the latter was beating up dissidents back home on the eve of Human Rights Day. No good will come of this. After six months of secret talks through Cuban emissaries — secrets kept from the American people, not Cuba´s dictatorship — the time seemed right for a flailing U.S. president and a dictator on the skids to shake hands and make nice at Nelson Mandela´s funeral in South Africa. For some shallow observers, it was all about Mandela´s legacy of everyone getting along. But it´s bad for the
So here’s the photo, my photo, which quickly lit up the world’s social networks and news websites. The “selfie” of three world leaders who, during South Africa’s farewell to Nelson Mandela, were messing about like kids instead of behaving with the mournful gravitas one might expect. In general on this blog, photojournalists tell the story behind a picture they’ve taken. I’ve done this for images from Pakistan, and India, where I am based. And here I am again, but this time the picture comes from a stadium in Soweto, and shows people taking a photo of themselves. I guess it’s a
Roberto Schmidt, a German-Colombian photojournalist based in India, saw a moment worth capturing at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in Soweto, South Africa on Tuesday, and capture it he did: the ‘selfie’ taken by President Barack Obama along with two other world leaders and next to a p1$$3d-off seeming Michelle Obama, immediately went viral. Mediaite sure covered it, as did most internet publications, and by early afternoon it was gristle for cable news commentators on both the left and the right—much to Schmidt’s dismay. “It’s a sign of our times that somehow this image seemed to get more attention than the event
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. This lmao! Michelle Obama vs Prime Minister of Denmark at Mandela´s ceremony. pic.twitter.com/Rq4uF9fTaZ — Stun (@TheBlogPirate) December 10, 2013
Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. But his party is reportedly stuck in traffic and he is said to have arrived late at the stadium for the ceremony. [Snip] But Mr Clinton, Mr Carter and his wife Rosalynn have all traveled separately to the event. According to reports, Mr Obama and his delegation are stuck in a lines of traffic caused by tens of thousands of people making their way to the event. Mr Obama is among the foreign leaders who
The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela´s memorial yesterday "made up his own signs," according to South Africa´s deaf federation. "He´s a complete fraud," Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, said according to ITV News. "He wasn´t even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around." Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter at DeafSA, told Reuters:
