Pima County to pay
$284,000 to protect lizards
at construction site

Arizona Daily Star [Tucson,AZ], by Becky Pollack

Original Article

Pima County will spend $284,000 to save horned lizards and other critters from an untimely and premature squishing at a west-side construction site. Work is starting on a project to stabilize the banks of the Santa Cruz River from Ajo Way to Silverlake Road. The river and surrounding parklands are home to regal horned lizards and other uncommon kinds of reptiles and toads. (Snip)The plan is to collect certain species, hold them in specially designed corrals during construction, help them get re-established in their renovated home when the time is right and then monitor their survival.

Sadly, as a Tucson area resident, the city and Pima county seemed doomed to that status of Detroit. I blame two groups. The University and the Latino race pimps (Grijalva) for giving the City and County solid Democrat majorities (no GOP on the City Council) who spend money on bike paths and trolly cars while driving businesses out of town with taxes and regulations (while claiming to be business friendly).

Actually in the EPA law, taking someone´s property in any fashion is the "LAST" resort.

Relocation of the critter is the first.

Somehow the bureaucratic thugs use the most punishing first. I wonder why the companies just don´t sue them to remedy that!

The chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs said Wednesday that dozens of VA hospital patients in Phoenix may have died while awaiting medical care. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., said staff investigators also have evidence that the Phoenix VA Health Care System keeps two sets of records to conceal prolonged waits that patients must endure for doctor appointments and treatment. "It appears as though there could be as many as 40 veterans whose deaths could be related to delays in care," Miller announced to a stunned audience during a committee hearing Wednesday. A once-prominent socialite was found guilty Tuesday in the 1996 Tucson car bomb killing of her ex-husband after spending years abroad living a lavish lifestyle across Europe. Pamela Phillips, 56, had pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. During the trial that began in February, Phillips´ lawyers told jurors their client had nothing to gain from the death of businessman Gary Triano and that she was the victim of overzealous authorities who failed to follow other leads. They said Phillips was already a successful real estate broker with her own money, and suggested that Triano had

President Obama will host two events on the economy this week as Democrats seek to pivot the political discussion away from the healthcare law. Democrats dispute that that the healthcare law will be a liability for the party in this year’s elections, and celebrated the news last week that ObamaCare enrollments topped 7 million. Still, they argue that jobs and the economy will be the central battleground in November. “That’s the debate that the election will be about, jobs and the budget,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said last week. Nancy Pelosi pushes campaign finance reform

Republican megadonors wouldn’t flood elections with private money if federal law forced individuals to immediately disclose their gifts, not only in public records but in advertisements too, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday. “The Chamber of Commerce told us that if their members had to disclose, they wouldn’t give to these secret PACs,” Pelosi said. Pelosi’s comments come as House Democrats plan to aggressively push for campaign finance reforms after the Supreme Court decision on Wednesday to eliminate caps on the total amount of money an individual can give to candidates, party committees and PACs.

A driver who travelled 15,000 miles in a year would pay about $75. "Basically you pay per the mile. A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or
