The Tea Party: Who
Are They, Really?

American Thinker, by Lloyd Marcus

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 3/31/2013 7:05:32 AM

Barbara is white and sixty-something and writes Christian musicals. She told a mutual friend, "Lloyd is a good guy, but I disagree with his association with the Tea Party." Shocked, our friend shared Barbara´s concern with me. I thought, "Barbara, you are the Tea Party." My friend Barbara is representative of the mainstream media´s despicable slander of millions of well-informed, decent, hardworking Americans who love their country and reject it being transformed into a socialist kingdom in which government controls every aspect of their lives. Who are these Tea Party people?

I want a smaller government and an end to ridiculous overbearing regulations, such as the new CAFE standards, the ban on R-22 freon, and the asinine "clean air" regulations.

Coal can be a clean energy source, but the way the regulation is worded, it is up to each company to convince barking-moonbat crazy bureaucrats at the EPA that they are doing everything possible to have nothing but pristine air leaving their coal-fired plants.

The Montreal Protocol on freon has been proven to be invalid. R-22 freon has NO effect on the ozone layer of our planet. It is still going to be eliminated at a tremendous cost to apartment dwellers, home owners, and businesses.

I have been Taxed Enough Already.

Simple fact of political life in America today which the MSM and those affected will not admit for obvious reasons - The biggest racist in America lives at 1600 Pennsylvinia Ave.

#1 Is right. My asthma inhaled no longer works worth crap because the previous propellant caused global warming. The point is people like Barbara are so worried about being called a racist they won´t take a stand against Obama. He is destroying the country with help from the msm and people like Barbara´s are more afraid of the Tea Party. Good grief political correctness has taken over and people can no longer think critically.

#4 I have NEVER seen or heard of anyone professing to be a TEA Party member acting in that manner, and I have been to a number of TEA Party functions in and around Houston.

Are you sure you were not at a DNC function?

In the earliest days, the tea party rallies were made up of enthusiastic, focused people who wanted less government and fewer taxes. Now, the whole thing has degenerated into silly little social molds that we must each fit into. The smaller government and fewer taxes campaign has been lost.

Well said, #4.
We are allies, who want to defeat socialism & the resulting nanny state which has taken over this country. This is the glue that should be holding us together. If some of our other goals clash, we should be smart enough to temporarily mute our differences until we achieve our goal. Think that´s impossible? Look at Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin---all had different goals, but a unified purpose.

I am a Tea Party sympathizer. I do not attend Tea Party meetings and rallies because I have difficulty standing and walking, with some difficult driving any distance longer than "around town". I correspond with Tea Party members and I am on the email list of various Tea Party groups.

All contact I have had with the Tea Party has been positive. The people are good-hearted, welcoming, and are strong on common-sense.

They are the salt of the earth and have been unfairly slandered. I hate it that the Republican Party has chosen to ignore and minimize the Tea Party. The Republican Party is shooting itself in the foot with this action.

The problem with the Tea Party is that it is not properly a party; ideally it should be part of the major party which most closely represents its views, i.e., the Republican Party.

There are only two major parties. If you don´t vote for your party´s candidate, for whever reason, and the other party´s people vote for theirs, they will win.

If you have been given a reasonable opportunity to present your views, and they have not been adopted for whatever reason, you do not pout in the corner and abstain. Pouters and abstainers never win. They only cause the rest of us to lose.

I will vote for Joe the Rag Man if he is the Republican Party candidate.

The Tea Party consists of those of us who have come to the sad realization that nobody really represents us anymore. We believe in the constitution and America as the free enterprise free country she was designed to be. Our government now controls so much of our money and so many aspects of our lives that there is almost nothing you can do that does not involve government control.

I think it was aptly "named" (although the name came as naturally as the movement) in that it is the appropriate response of free people to government oppression and confiscation of wealth.

The T.E.A. Movement began with like-minded people from all walks of life, from all parties of politics-----all with a common goal; i.e., reduce spending, stop trying to TAX this country to prosperity, reduce the size of government and it´s intrusions into the lives of all people.
T.E.A. movement is NOT a Republican ´thingy´, so get over it! Sure, just like any group, one will get dissent and there are those who desire to build their popularity on the backs and funds of others. Too many people, now, are letting the extreme lefties and the MSM/LSM media describe "who" and "what" the T.E.A. movement is all about. Lloyd Marcus is right when he speaks about "Barbara".

My experiences have been similar to #10. We have attended numerous Tea Party functions in Texas, WA and MO. The "my way or the highway" attitude far more prevalent amongst those who RUN the GOP. They ASSIST the enemies of freedom if it means belittling or demeaning Christian Conservatives so their influence is diminished. They are the ones who need to start thinking "unity."

Less government to be sure. But the tea party are people who walked away from the existing beltway professional political class, a group not interested in allowing individuals to choose their own leaders, their own solutions, their own priorities or exist with out the structure and leadership only professional consultants and lobbyists can provide.
The Bush White Houses allowed housing markets to weaken, Wall Street to consolidate in a fashion regulars were either unable or unwilling to challenge. Free market solutions to health care access and cost were muted, thwarted or discouraged, because alternatives would raise the ire of beltways power e.g. Kennedy.
Expansion and creation of new regulations, trade agreements and agencies that were designed to garner votes at a national level--ADA NAFTA MFN status for China, NCLB,Homeland Security reiforced the notion that the Bush Rockfeller one world wing of the Republican party and its tenticular political infrastructure was and is the problem that allowed the radicalism of Clinton and the cryptoMarxism of Obama to take hold.
The tea party fosters discussions and resulting from those emerged the realization that the liberal republican party does not share a vision for free markets and free peoples. Last year´s primary only verified what was already feared. Power and a lack of principle were the only values of the National Republican party.

The lack of resistance, the lack of purpose and principle and intellectual integrity of the republican party in 2008 and what followed, culminating in the horrors of the vote on Obamacare were followed by the ascension of the embodiment of all that the tea party movement didn´t want: an east coast, ivy league, out of touch liberal republican in favor of socialized medicine. And now, the same supporters try to make the lesser seem the greater thing in hopes of bring another Bush to the fore.
The Tea Party is the same movement that put Reagan ahead of Bush in 1980. Replace the losers at the top.

If the Tea Party wants to accomplish anything ever again, it should coalesce into a single movement with an agreed-upon set of goals. Splinter groups with different agendas accomplish nothing. There´s a North Carolina Tea Party faction that´s dedicated to ending abortion. The Tea Party Patriots of Virginia are recruiting "conservative" Democrats to run. Good luck with that one. Tea Party Patriots, Tea Party Express, Tea Party Communities, and Tea Party Nation are all claiming to represent the "real" Tea Party. And now there´s something called Tea Party News.

As it is, any bonehead can claim to be a Tea Partier, run in a primary, spout a few platitudes, and throw the election to the Democrats. And what about ringers, given that there´s absolutely no vetting process? Remember what happened in NY State a few years ago? A Democrat posing as the Tea Party candidate drew enough votes from suckers to cause a Republican loss for that congressional seat.

When Rick Santelli inspired it´s origins, it was over one of Obama´s many mortgage bailout programs. I remember Obama coming to Mesa to promote it and a few hundred protesters met him. Obama was using taxpayer money to promote bad behavior and the citizens had had enough. Today I have no idea what it stands for.

We should focus on the looming debt disaster we´re facing. Instead we´re consumed with gay marriage, where the president´s daughters are vacationing, green energy and assault rifle bans that will never see the light of day.

Why did Democrats applaud the loathsome community organizer Melowese Richardson, a freshly released, unrepentant voter fraud felon, at a recent "voting rights" rally in Ohio? Because, like Richardson, they believe they are entitled to vote more than once against a system they see as unjust. Some serial voters do what they do in order to exact revenge against a society they feel did them or their ancestors wrong. Richardson is far from alone. Double-voting is distressingly common. Many leftists have contempt for the electoral process because they don’t believe in the electoral system as it is constituted in capitalist America.
