Ben Carson, the noted pediatric neurosurgeon, has become the target of a petition by Johns Hopkins students who want him removed as the medical school’s commencement speaker this spring. Dr. Carson became a media sensation in January when he questioned Obamacare and progressive taxation in a speech to the National Prayer Breakfast as President Obama sat just a few feet away from him. With his new prominence, Carson has apparently also riled some liberals, including these Johns Hopkins students.
Didn´t Bloomberg go to Johns Hopkins undergrad? I suggest that he may be Dr. Carson´s replacement, and I say good. He can lecture them about big sodas and cheap cigs and bad guns and hopefully bore them to death
If you´re black and Marxist you´re free to speak; if you´re black and Conservative you´re an "Uncle Tom" and unwelcome. This is un-freakin-believable in the United States of America! We are definitely in a war.
Just as with Sarah Palin, Dr. Carson has spoken conservatism so clearly and the left is scared to death. Therefore, they absolutely MUST destroy him before he gets a chance to gain any traction with the LoFoVo´s.
This should be the conservatives´ cue to stand up and defend this man to the hilt (something they didn´t do for Palin), but I fear they will sit on their RINO hands and let him fall into the liberal trap of being labeled "extreme, hateful, and stupid".
My advice to the Dr. Carsons of this country is to quit. Why waste the time of your life praticing the art of medicine for free at the price of spending time with your family? There is no right to the free labor of another person. I am going to take (bitter) pleasure in watching the people who voted for Obamacare suffer from the lack of health care they will soon experience. P.S. I am sick of hearing about the love that dares not shut the front door.
How ironic. Leftists always see themselves as the advocates of freedom, but are always the first to squelch speech. They see themselves as advocates of racial and gender equality, but do not hesitate to destroy a minority or a female (often in vile racial and sexist ways) who dares articulate a political or philosophical opinion they do not share. They see themselves as paragons of reason, but they enforce the tenets of their own secular faith like its the Spanish Inquisition.
I see all leftists as demonic. Think of it this way, if you saw a demon coming toward you - attacking you, your religion, your American way of life, trying to kill you & yours - would you feel that it is your duty to attack & fight back? I would & I do. Speak up, fight back & get in their faces. Make up your mind right now, that kindness & understanding is NO way to deal with evil. Call it what it is. Do not knuckle under to these beasts - we are not going to win a culture war by being "nice."
Sorry, one more comment. 27,000 pages of Obamacare without one word about tort reform and these future docs have their stethoscopes in a knot over one not-so-great analogy by Dr. Ben Carson! Again proving that scoring high on the MCAT´s does not mean you have any common sense.
College students are little more than children who are supposed to be going to university to learn, not to teach, protest, march, or proclaim their naive and uninformed personal opinions about complex matters they know nothing about. It is part of their childishness that they imagine themselves to be wise - wiser, indeed, than adults. There is nothing new here except that, in the Sixties, adults began to give way and to surrender their supervisory and educational responsibilities to the children. In a literal way, the inmates began to run the asylum. No rational person could have failed to foresee the inevitable results of such a policy.
These student-children are victims of transgenerational pedagogical child abuse. They are simply acting out and performing what they have been led to believe by other abused child-students who are now their teachers is social justice and virtue. They are proxies for their elders who have inculcated ideology and called it education.
Perhaps the worst and most dangerous educational abuse of all, however, is that such student-children have not been taught the most important thing of all, that they do not know anything, that their opinions are just that, opinions, and that it is entirely possible they do not know what they are talking about. They are victims of systematic educational narcissism, a program expressly designed to cause them to think they know things they do not know, to cause them to confuse opinions with facts and incontrovertible truths, and to render and keep them as ignorant of the record and achievements of the past as possible.
Dr Carson just blew a big chunk of his political capital. No one likes to have the object of their affection compared to an animal. To say such a thing reveals a monumental distaste for gay people in general.
I thought Carson would be able to develop into a compelling political figure, but he seems doomed to spend too much time with his foot in his mouth.
Wrong! Listing things together does not automatically imply comparison, and certainly NOT equivalence. E.G. a list of native Florida mammals would include the manatee and the cougar; no one would assume they are basically the same. He was listing things that could not be substituted for the age-old description of marriage. I believe Carson´s political capital is only beginning to grow.

What a bunch of racists. Uninviting a black man to speak. What kind of racists fun that school. This should not be tolerated. How dare they. We should march on the administration building and occupy it.
Edward S. Miller, a lifetime FBI man of high rank and stature, recently passed away at the age of 89. A good man and good American, Miller, who was also a veteran of World War II (Okinawa), faithfully served his family, country, and God. He also faithfully served the agency that hired him in 1950, as well as the longtime head of that agency, J. Edgar Hoover.
"Global jihad is at our doorstep," said the head of Israel´s Military Intelligence this week. Unlike our media and politicians, Major-General Aviv Kochavi is paid to see reality without fear or favor, and to tell it like it is. American conservatives have thought so at least since the Twin Towers bombing in 2001, and some, like Andy McCarthy, have known it since the Blind Sheikh tried to truck-bomb the World Trade Center in 1993.
Watching a woman give birth in the street is a situation which would make many of us panic. So spare a thought for these unfortunate bystanders who were caught up in a hilarious prank which saw a ´mother-to-be´ go into labour and give birth to a small person which then chased after them. In the hilarious footage posted on LiveLeak and filmed in Egypt, a heavily ´pregnant´ woman is seen grabbing her stomach as she staggers along a seafront promenade.
The world has seen the royal baby for the first time as the future king left hospital with his ecstatic parents this evening, who revealed they had not yet chosen a name. Prince William and Kate waved and smiled broadly to the waiting cameras as they held their prince on the steps of the private Lindo Wing at St Mary´s Hospital in London, 26 hours after he was delivered, weighing 8lbs 6oz. The Duke of Cambridge followed the steps his parents Charles and Diana took with him 31 years ago, when he was born there on June 21, 1982.
One of the axioms utilized by H.L. Mencken in analyzing politics in the United States stated that Americans were unable to grasp arguments on their face and instead needed them recast in pure Manichean terms, with the most repellent of devils on one side and the purest of angels on the other. Mencken was on to something there, something that still holds true today, as is shown by the debate concerning the NSA scandal. This scandal is being fought out -- particularly among conservatives -- on purely Manichean grounds.
On this day 150 years ago, the Army of the Potomac prevailed over General Lee’s Confederate forces in the third and final day of battle at Gettysburg. With Grant’s victory at Vicksburg on the same day, the tide of the war turned decisively in favor of the Union. Geoffrey Norman retells the story of Gettysburg in the Weekly Standard article “A great battlefield.” Over at NRO our friend Mac Owens retells the story in “The great battle of Gettysburg.” In the Weekly Standard Mac also recalls “Grant at Vicksburg.”
So, in a desperate attempt "the Obama administration created a marketing campaign for Obamacare that made it cool and hip" by "reaching out to the NFL, the NBA and Hollywood for help, and counting down the days to Oct. 1, when enrollment in the exchanges officially begins." Further, "The administration is in a good position to secure splashy endorsements, as Obama´s 2008 and 2012 campaigns had a deep bench of celebrity surrogates."

One of the most persistently alluring but frightening themes of science-fiction films features creatures able to transform themselves into any form they´d like. The power to shift one´s self into any form at any given moment by a sheer act of will, also a theme of traditional mythology and folklore, means that for the shape-shifter, nothing is permanently solid material. "Reality" is illusory because it is infinitely malleable. Reality is whatever you want it to be at any given moment.
An airplane wingwalker and her pilot, both from Northern Virginia, were the two people killed Saturday in what´s been described as a horrific and fiery scene during the Vectren Dayton Air Show in Ohio. Jane Law Wicker, the 46-year-old wingwalker, and Charlie Schwenker, 64, died around 12:45 p.m. in the annual event´s second fatal plane crash in seven years. Wicker, the chief operator of Jane Wicker Airshows of Front Royal, had performed in past years at the air show in Leesburg.
Conservatives have recently woken up to President Obama´s attempt to pack the D.C. Circuit court of appeals with liberal judges. What little attention the media has dedicated to court packing has entirely revolved around that court. While it is understandable that the media is focused on the D.C. Circuit, one of the most prestigious courts in the country, it is a mistake to ignore the President´s even more outrageous attempt to pack another court with sympathetic judges. The United States Court of Federal Claims is a specialty court located just across the street from the White House.
Marc Thiessen makes a point I was preparing to write up, and wish I had written: The real culprit behind James Clapper’s false testimony to Congress regarding NSA data collection isn’t Clapper, but rather Sen. Ron Wyden who asked the question to which Clapper responded. Since Thiessen went first, I’ll let him explain: What is outrageous is not that Clapper tried to protect classified information in an open session, but that Senator Ron Wyden asked him the question in open session the first place.
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. According to a report published Monday in the
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee

America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group. Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding. The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
A group of experts advising the nation’s premier cancer research institution has recommended sweeping changes in the approach to cancer detection and treatment, including changes in the very definition of cancer and eliminating the word entirely from some common diagnoses. (Snip) The group, which includes some of the top scientists in cancer research, also suggested that many lesions detected during breast, prostate, thyroid, lung and other cancer screenings should not be called cancer at all but should instead be reclassified as IDLE conditions, which stands for “indolent lesions of
I never thought the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case deserved nearly the attention it got. But reasonable people can disagree about that. What strikes me as unconscionable, however, is the way the supposedly objective media have not only sensationalized a tragedy but at times appear to deliberately bend the facts to fit a desired story line. Maybe it started with the use of pictures of a younger Martin or with the sudden embrace of the term "white Hispanic" to describe Zimmerman in order to more easily paint him as a racist. NBC News was the most egregious offender
