The moment autistic girl, seven,

kindhearted Chili´s staff after she

Daily Mail [UK], by Sadie Whitelocks

The heartwarming story of how a Chili´s server ´fixed´ an autistic child´s ´broken´ burger has attracted more than half a million Likes on Facebook. Arianna Hill, aged seven, from Midvale, Utah, loves cheeseburgers, but couldn´t eat one at her local restaurant chain on Sunday because it came chopped in half. When her older sister Anna MacLean asked what was wrong, the youngster calmly replied: ´It’s broken. I need another one that´s fixed.´ Mrs MacLean, 25, explained the situation to a waitress and said she was willing to pay for a new meal, but staff happily served up a whole

In this day and age of serious brawls in IHOP and Chuck E Cheese, this lovely story is beyond heartwarming. Chili´s for lunch today!

Yes, I liked the story, too. However, anyone who has tried to persuade any child that a broken cookie will taste just as good as a whole one, or that it´s ok if the strawberry ice cream touches the chocolate ice cream, will recognize the minuet. Some childhood hangups reach beyond emotional or medical conditions.

This is a dear sweet story. The little girl is precious. Our grandson is autistic and also has eating eccentricities. However, he rarely speaks, although has had years of private therapy and special schools.

I also will remember this when passing our local Chili´s. We will have to be more regular in our patronage!

Under the original story, someone posted that waiters were usually surly these days. That is absolutely not true in the area north of Dallas. We are fortunate to have well-trained, quite delightful waiters in our area.

Nice story, but the writer clearly does not know kids. Many have food crankyisms. And many will not eat food that is not presented in the way to which they are accustomed. This is not just an "autism thing".

As for the restaurant, I imagine most would redo a hamburger that had been cut in half in the kitchen. Most would ask before doing such a thing.

The South is descending into chaos again as the second major winter storm in three weeks walloped the region with snow, sleet and freezing rain--killing nine people, knocking out power to nearly half a million homes and canceling 3,500 flights. On major roads and highways Wednesday evening, it seemed like a bad bout of déjà vu as hundreds of stranded drivers were forced to abandon their cars and walk to shelter after they were caught in the brunt of the storm. This time the disaster scenes played out in North Carolina. Residents of Atlanta, which was battered just two weeks

The White House and the Health & Human Services Department boasted Wednesday that 3.3 million Americans have signed up for private insurance coverage through marketplaces set up by the Affordable Care Act. But the administration still hasn´t said a word about how many--or how few--of those signing up on the chronically ill healthcare.gov website have paid for their insurance, and are actually covered. A MailOnline analysis of publicly available totals from five states that run their own health insurance exchanges found that on average, just 66.5 per cent of enrollees in those states have paid premiums.

President Barack Obama tossed aside a long-standing ´special relationship´ between the U.S. and Great Britain on Tuesday, telling reporters that choosing a ´best ally´ between France and the UK would be like choosing his favorite daughter. ´I have two daughters,´ the president said, referring to Sasha and Malia. ´And they are both gorgeous and wonderful, and I would never choose between them.´ ´And that´s how I feel about my outstanding European partners. All of them are wonderful in their own ways.´ Obama was speaking during a joint press conference with French President Francois Hollande, on the occasion of the first

What a treat for all medieval historians! More than 500 years after he was killed, the skeleton of Richard III is giving them much more reliable biographical information than they acquired over the previous half a millennium. Henry VII, his successor, and opponent at Bosworth, encouraged his court historians to produce a warped picture of Richard. Thank God, then, for the miraculous discovery of his body in a Leicester car park in 2012, and the undeniable truths it provided. Analysis of his skeleton showed the king didn’t have a hunchback exactly; he suffered from scoliosis of the spine

George Clooney and Bill Murray, stars of The Monuments Men, have waded into the long-running row over the Elgin Marbles by saying Britain should hand the treasures back to Greece. The classical sculptures were taken from the Parthenon in Athens by Lord Elgin in the early 19th century. They were acquired by parliament in 1816 and currently reside in the British Museum. I have written before about the strange propensity of the Tory part of this Government to shoot itself in the foot. Quite often it comes down to basic political mismanagement, either in Number 10 or in Parliament, when routine business is not transacted properly. Tories complain that MPs or peers who might have been able to prevent a screw-up are not listened to. And while the machine has good people in it, it is prone to avoidable malfunctions. All of this is easy for me to say, of course. I recognise that it is easier to write about government being

It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

President Obama has repeatedly suspended parts of the Affordable Care Act without the consent of Congress. The latest unilateral action happened Monday night, when the administration announced another delay of the employer mandate, the law´s provision that businesses with more than 50 employees must provide their employees with insurance starting in 2014 or pay large fines. In July, the president decreed the mandate wouldn´t be enforced at all in 2014, and last night administration officials declared that businesses with 50 to 99 employees wouldn´t be penalized in 2015.
