New Haven - A suspended Roman Catholic priest accused of taking in more than $300,000 from sales of methamphetamine plans to plead guilty to a charge against him, according to a court filing on Tuesday. (Snip) The authorities say Monsignor Wallin, 61, had methamphetamine mailed to him from co-conspirators in California and made more than $300,000 in drug sales out of his Waterbury apartment in the second half of 2012. He also bought a small shop selling pornography and sex toys in the nearby town of North Haven, through which he laundered the proceeds, authorities said.

Comments:
I am almost speechless. What are the odds of this happening?

Twitter has unveiled a redesign of its user interface that appears to be based heavily on Facebook´s profile pages. The new web profile lets users upload a larger profile photo, customise their header (in a similar way to Facebook´s ´cover photo´), and show off tweets that have received the most engagement with followers. They can also ´pin´ one of their tweets to the top of their page, to give followers an idea of who they are and what they´re interested in, and filter other users´ timelines to show only the tweets they are interested in. The new profile setup is available today to a small group of users, and will roll out to all users in the

A 13-year-old girl in New York believes she was suspended from school last week after she was reprimanded for telling several students that they had freedom to opt out of Common Core testing. Seirra Olivero, an eighth-grader at Orange-Ulster BOCES in Goshen, was suspended for two days for insubordination, the Times Herald-Record reported. Seirra filed a complaint under the state’s Dignity for All Students Act, which said that on Tuesday, the day of the English test, she told several students over the course of the day that they didn’t have to take the test if they didn’t want to. In one instance, a teacher allegedly overheard and told her

A teenage boy was ordered held in lieu of $20,000 bail Tuesday for allegedly bringing a gun into his classroom at a Far South Side alternative high school. “I know what this is about. I got a banger on me,” David Lazard, 16, allegedly said pointing to his backpack as he was questioned by the off-duty Chicago Police officer who was working as a security officer at Olive-Harvey Middle College. Lazard also told police Monday, “I’m into it with guys from my neighborhood,” according to a police report. Inside the backpack, police found a Rugar 9 mm pistol with over a dozen live rounds, Cook County prosecutors said.

New York - The Rev. Al Sharpton, the long-time political agitator and TV personality famous for his willingness to take on law enforcement and the establishment, admitted Tuesday he had worked with the FBI years ago but insisted he was not a "rat." "I was not and am not a rat," said Sharpton, who held a news conference at the headquarters of his National Action Network to respond to a report Monday on the Smoking Gun. "I´m a cat," he added. "I chase rats." The Smoking Gun said Sharpton was known to the FBI as CI-7, or confidential informant 7, and informed on mob figures in New York for several years,

Vienna - The United States said on Tuesday Iran has the ability to produce fissile material for a nuclear bomb in two months, if it so decided, as Tehran and six world powers swung into a new round of talks in Vienna on resolving their atomic dispute. Secretary of State John Kerry´s comments in Washington highlighted Western concerns about Iran´s nuclear intentions and the wide divisions between the two sides that could still foil a deal. Iran says its nuclear program is entirely peaceful. The overarching goal of the powers - Britain, France, China, Russia, Germany and the United States - in the talks is to persuade Iran to scale back

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat, said Tuesday that criticism that she is too emotional about a report on CIA interrogation tactics is just a defense to continue to hide the report. “I think that’s an old male fallback position, and there’s no question that there are a lot of people out there, and I suspect former CIA Director Michael Hayden is one of them, that does not want the report to come out, so one of the things you do is try to blur the reputation of someone connected with the report,” the chairwoman for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence said on MSNBC. The search for MH370 is entering overdrive. Following apparent "ping" detections by a Chinese vessel on Friday and Saturday – no trace of which could be found at the time of writing – the Royal Navy has sent a research vessel, HMS Echo, into the narrowing search area. But Echo is not the only Royal Navy asset in the area. Last Monday, HMS Tireless, a Trafalgar-class British attack submarine, arrived in the southern Indian Ocean. Her mission – find MH370’s Black Box. (Snip) Instead, albeit an older boat, Tireless possesses some extraordinary sensor platforms – perhaps even the 2076 sonar system

Kathryn Riffenburg decided on a closed casket for her baby´s funeral. She didn´t want her family to see what whooping cough, her son´s first illness, had done to 9-week-old Brady Alcaide. The nearly forgotten disease, which has in recent years afflicted thousands of Americans, left Brady´s tiny body swollen and unrecognizable. So his mother dressed him in a white baptismal suit and hat and tucked him into a tiny white casket. Brady´s burial came just four weeks after his first laugh — inspired by her version of I´m a Little Teapot — and two weeks after his family learned that he had

President Barack Obama will speak this week for the second time at the annual meeting of Sharpton´s National Action Network, raising questions about the group´s special treatment. Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing

When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. He even secretly taped some of those wiseguys using a briefcase that FBI technicians outfitted

There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."
