Questions remain after Obama’s Israel trip
Washington Post, by Jennifer Rubin

President Obama almost made it through his trip to Israel without demonstrating the incoherence at the heart of his approach to the region. Almost. If he now understands and can recite how many times Israel has offered the Palestinians their own state, why was he lecturing Israeli students on the unjustness of the Palestinians lack of statehood? If he extolled Israeli democracy, why wasn’t he telling Mahmoud Abbas to have free and fair elections? If he understands that there are to be “two states for two peoples,” why doesn’t he adopt as U.S. policy —

I was waiting on the tarmac to depart out of Doha when the gentleman seated next to me (dressed in full Qatari garb)struck up a conversation about the state of the world.
Within minutes, after the usual niceties about children and work, he went straight to the Israeli / Pali thingee. After a long rendition of Israeli atrocities he asked if I did not agree with all reasonable people that Yaser Arafat had tried every possible way to get the evil Israelis to come to the table but they had been intractable and unreasonable at every turn.

Having been advised by my employer to avoid political discussions with the locals....................I agreed.

But I lied.

I watched a major network news video report of President Obama´s speech to Israeli university students. The glowing report showed smiling, enthralled faces and ecstatic cheering during the President´s remarks. Of course, there was no mention in the report about students from Ariel University (which is located in the West Bank) being excluded from attending the speech. The major news outlets continue their dishonest propaganda concerning this President - the entire charade makes me sick.

Forrmer Clinton administration operative Paul Begala doesn’t think so. He writes: “Politics [is] about the future, not the past; about voters’ lives, not politicians’. Thus the personal attacks on Clintons will fail.” Begala is probably right, but his analysis seems to apply only to Democratic politicians. The Washington Post thought that a few instances of alleged high-school bullying by Mitt Romney were relevant to his presidential bid, and Team Obama had a field day with Romney’s old business ventures. Similarly, the Post has written this year about Chris Christie’s first political campaign (for the County Commission in 1994) and about his

WASHINGTON — When President Obama invited President François Hollande of France for a state dinner, the White House drew up a list of 300 guests to honor the visiting leader and his partner, Valérie Trierweiler. Engraved invitations, with the presidential seal in gold at the top, were printed and set to be mailed. But there was an unexpected development. Mr. Hollande’s relationship with Ms. Trierweiler blew up in the midst of revelations of an affair with a French actress he had secretly been visiting by motor scooter. Suddenly, Ms. Trierweiler was no longer France’s unofficial first lady and no longer coming

Where in the world is Rupert Murdoch? The 82 year old media magnate has been radio silent recently. He’s also been no-profile. It’s not like him.Murdoch is a proficient Twitter-er. Until last December 22nd, he usually spat out a Tweet once or twice a day. On that day, he sent out two messages. And then, nothing. Until January 24th, almost three weeks ago. He wrote:

SOCHI, Russia — The grim and the gorgeous coexist side by side at the Sochi Olympics. Anyone who thinks that what’s happening here is comparable to the excesses of other sports events in other places simply hasn’t seen or felt these Winter Games firsthand. The $51 billion colossus is an act of destructive grandiosity that threatens to make us all queasily complicit in crime yet simultaneously awed and intimidated. The most expensive Olympics in history are partly a Potemkin village, an elaborate facade built to impress foreign passersby and to enhance the image of a small, odd, chill-faced man who likes

The death last Sunday of Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman at age 46 focused media attention on the nationwide surge in heroin use and overdoses. But the very real heroin epidemic is framed by an even more dramatic increase since the beginning of the century in overdoses from pharmaceutical drugs known as opioids. These are, in effect, tandem epidemics — an addiction crisis driven by the powerful effects on the human brain of drugs derived from morphine.Further tests are pending to determine the precise cause of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death.

Obama said for the first time that he might accept a deal that would offer the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. legal status instead of full citizenship. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other Republican leaders had floated just such a proposal on Thursday.Until now, Obama and other Democrats insisted that any compromise on immigration reform contain a path to full citizenship.Anything short of that, they said, would create a two-tiered class system. It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

President Obama has repeatedly suspended parts of the Affordable Care Act without the consent of Congress. The latest unilateral action happened Monday night, when the administration announced another delay of the employer mandate, the law´s provision that businesses with more than 50 employees must provide their employees with insurance starting in 2014 or pay large fines. In July, the president decreed the mandate wouldn´t be enforced at all in 2014, and last night administration officials declared that businesses with 50 to 99 employees wouldn´t be penalized in 2015. Last October, Obama vindictively shut down the federal government upon his having refused to delay ObamaCare, which of course is exactly what he himself lawlessly did on February 10, 2014! Of course, Boehner is hardly in a position to argue now, having foolishly (immensely so) accepted responsibility for the shutdown.
