| Detroit — The Rev. Jesse Jackson criticized the state takeover of Michigan´s largest city on Friday, calling on citizens to fight back as the city is days away from being controlled by an emergency financial manager. "It´s time for a major mass civil action in the city of Detroit," Jackson said in Detroit amid wild applause. City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson and Jackson are leading government, clergy and labor leaders in announcing plans Friday to challenge the constitutionality of Michigan´s new emergency manager law. In a news conference featuring Jackson being held at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in Detroit, protesters

I´m sure this would just turn into an excuse for mass looting -- except I understand that there isn´t much left in Detroit to loot these days.
It a bunch of these people practicing their ´´mass civil action´´ went around and broke a bunch of windows and set buildings on fire, they would just look like most of the existing buildings in Detroit.
I guess nobody greased the Revvvvuuunnnnd Jackson´s hand before taking this action, and he is going to show them now...

Racist whites are to blame.
They let the blacks vote incompetent blacks into office knowing they couldn´t do the job.
It was a well thought out racist conspiracy to make blacks look bad! .

Good ol´ Jesse...fulfilling his calling to keep the ´N´ word alive and applicable...
Jesse used to like to brag about ´spitting in white people´s food´ as a waiter at the Poinsettia Hotel in Greenville, SC - his ´home town´.
Every time he spoke at a local school - racial attacks followed. Guess which race was doing the ´attacking´?
Too bad the sickle-cell overlooked ol´ Jesse.

Revrum "Luv Chyiil" Jackson needs to lead the action. Get rakes, shovels, spades, and hoes. Wheelbarrows and dumpsters and clean the place up. Torch the drug houses. Put the whole place place on curfew. Everyone has to be out of bed by 7 AM. Stand at attention on the curb til you work as directed.

I understand the frustration regarding the takeover. but the city should not seek any assistance (or at least continued) from the state if they want to continue to (mis)manage their own affairs. No state takeover but no state assistance either. After the cameras leave, Jackson will jet set to the next news event he can capitalize on.

Ya know Jess, if you got together with all the union thugs in Detroit, the City Council, the welfare bums, the too lazy to work types, you know what you would have? A target rich environment. Of course I mean that he could then get on his soapbox and preach to all of them about hard work, taking personal responsibility and getting out to clean up the mess that they created.

As a metro Detroiter, I do not believe much will come of this. There are always going to be a percentage of true believers to the revrum´s racist gospel, but increasingly Detroiters are saying enough is enough. Fix our problems. Make the buses work. Turn on the streetlights. Arrest the criminals. Jackson may be able to shake some people into the street for a faux protest, but it will not be many, and will not last long.

I suppose you could make the argument that if you are willing to elect racist morons to run your city into bankruptcy you are entitled to go down with the ship. However Detroit´s economy in many ways impacts the rest of the State and we didn´t have a vote. The last thing Detroit needs right now is this race hustler and con artist coming here to gin everyone up and insist that Detroit be allowed to crash and burn. Human stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

FTA: In a press conference featuring Jackson held at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in Detroit, protesters of the new law that begins Thursday and Gov. Rick Snyder´s appointment of Washington, D.C., bankruptcy attorney Kevyn Orr as Detroit´s emergency manager said emergency management "usurps democracy by taking the voting right of more than 2.3 million Michigan residents."
The revrun may have let the cat out of the bag on this one. The latest count I can find on the population of Detroit is 706,585 and that one is two years old. How many votes did the won get in Michigan? Who´s counting the votes in MoTown? Yeah, I know, silly question.

Kathleen Sausa, 42, told borough officials in early 2011 that she was pregnant with twins, according to the lawsuit she filed Monday in Superior Court. Sausa accuses officials of targeting her after she announced her pregnancy. Mobile, Ala. — In March we told you how much food stamp fraud costs Alabama taxpayers. In a Local 15 follow-up investigation, we found out the problem goes beyond food assistance. Some clients know how to take advantage of the system to double dip in multiple entitlement programs. On paper, Raven Yates is a young, single mother of two who´s out of a job. But when we did a little digging, the reality proved much different. Documents we obtained show in August of 2012, Yates applied and was approved for Section 8 housing for herself and her two kids.

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson, considered by some to be a potential Republican contender for president, apologized to Johns Hopkins University for the "poorly chosen words" he used in expressing his opposition to gay marriage last month.“I am sorry for any embarrassment this has caused,” Carson said in the letter, reported in New York Magazine.(Snip) "Although I do believe marriage is between a man and a woman, there are much less offensive ways to make that point. I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. There are 5 million of these residences in the U.S., up from

The couple, who married on April 4, 2008, took in the sights of Old Havana, visited a school, dined on a rooftop terrace and strolled the fan-filled streets in their island best.(snip).The power couple declined to answer journalists´ questions about their visit to the island nation, but some outlets are reporting that the moguls are there as tourists, though that would be illegal because of the half-century embargo the U.S. has on the Communist country. However, the Miami Herald said Washington has issued special licenses for

The budget President Barack Obama will submit on April 10 will contain a proposal that would prohibit individuals from accumulating more than $3 million in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and tax-preferred retirement accounts. According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." "The budget would limit an individual’s total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per
