Glad to see the coverage, but nothing new to those of us in military towns. Folks that buy your coffee or a whole meal or a table full of meals for gals & guys in uniform are an everyday pat on the back for our service members. Its a small thank you for the big demands of military life.

I was at my favorite Irish pub when some soldiers walked in and ordered some Guiness and a big plate of appetizers. I intercepted the bartender and they got the plate for free. Anybody can do it, and everybody should.

Nice! Amazing how cynical some of the comments on the website were (shows how much more optimistic Americans are -- and how we practice little kindnesses...guess many of the Europeans are too sophisticated for that kind of thing).
Maybe this is making news because of where it happened? I don´t think there are probably a lot of conservative, military backers up there. Hope the Mass liberals would support the troops, but am a bit doubtful and remember comments from the Moms of wounded soldiers at Walter Reed saying how different (better) it was to be in the DC area and how lonely/indifferent/worse it was up there.

Nice gesture. But she and her boyfriend, who is presumably the father of their two children, are not married. That means she and the kids are ineligible for any government benefits should any harm befall her boyfriend.
I´m not being judgmental, I´m just pointing out that the "married" same-sex "spouse" of a service member would be eligible for benefits that would be denied this family.

If the dad claims as his kids, w/birth certs, and they´re in DEERS then they will get all dependent bennies. Its the Mama who will be out in the cold if the worst happened. Marriage matters, for more than a name change.

Thank God we are treating our military personnel better than the Vietnam era. I vividly remember watching my Dad in his uniform returning from a tour of duty off the US Navy Hospital Ship Repose getting spit on as he walked through an airport.

A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found. The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. It was hit by coral bleaching, caused by higher water temperatures that break down the coral´s symbiotic relationship with algae that provide food for coral growth.

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
